Where is the compass app on the Vibrant - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I see people talking about the map issues and compass, what I want to know is where the compass app on the phone? Unless people are downloading from the market, but I though it was something like the iphone where its pre-installed

you need to download it from the market

I believe that Google maps has it installed. The blue arrow is supposed to point in the direction you're heading. Most of the time mine has me traveling sideways

Flick Kick - Not in the market?

Anyone know why this game is not showing in the market?
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.pikpok.kikfg#
I understand that Android supposedly checks to see if an app will work, or is supported, and if it's not it should not show up in the market.... but this app should play just fine.
Is there a way to open up the Market? I remember there used to be a way, but I can't locate it!
Neither does fruit ninja but i got it on the black market lol hopefully whenever they decide to update it it will show up on the Android Market
http://www.openfeint.com/android/1350-Fruit-Ninja
That's weird. I have fruit ninja in the market.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I see it on the market too.
hhhmmm thats weird wtf is wrong with my phone then?
I have Fruit Ninja but don't see Flick Kick Football no fair. Any ideas?
I'm on JM8 Galaxy S in the UK.
I also see fruit ninja, but not flick kick.
What's the deal?
Are you guys on the leaked update?
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant using the xda app
im not on the leaked, im running vibrant9, and i cant see it.
I am on it
Update: just re-searched for it and it showed up, they just pushed out an update so maybe that had something to do with it? I am talking about fruit ninja BTW
I thought this was a Flick Kick thread though... go make your own Fruit Ninja thread
So does any one know where to get flick kick at?
Bump, I too would like to get this game... still do not understand why it does not show in the market.
Flick Kick Link
here it is
I didnt follow the link just b/c FK is a paid app... thanks for offering the help though man!

What exactly does the Eris Market Fix do? I'm always a bit hesitant to just let an app mess with my core apps.

Sigh.. just read the description of it on the market:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/eris-market-fix-free/net.andirc.erismarketfix
Quit being so paranoid, if so many people are using it + it's been released for quite some time + good feedback then there's nothing to worry about. Root is required.
^ thanks for the suggestion, I will try it out probably... but to be devils advocate, it has only been out for 5 months (not a long time) and a lot of the comments from Galaxy people suggest it does not work.
Pretty sure JI6 fixed the market. All my apps show now, didnt before update (ie flick kick).

Novionics lakes does work on the streak

I bought navionics lakes on my inspire 4g and later realized it would be in the streak as purchased, so i had the streak download it and it actualy worked on the deivice.
So if anyone was wondering, like me, the navionics maps apps do work on the streak just the same as it works on my inspire 4g
Thanks for the heads up, I have been wondering. It will be nice to sit at my desk browsing lake maps and day dreaming of all the new spots I want to hit up when the season opens.
Now the developer of fishing calendar needs to fix it so it doesn't force close on the streak.

Do you know of Solunar App that provides Majors and Minors along with Sun rise/set and Moon rise/set?
I wish. I had a great app for that when I was using windows mobile but can't seem to find anything even close to it. Let me check some files and see what it was called.
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
I can find everything but the majors and minors.
I guess i cleaned all the windows mobile stuff off my external storage drive
I dont remember the name of the app i had but it was perfect for night fishing.
It told you where the moon was rising, and when, and setting and all that.
It worked by holding the device to a dirrection, say north. then looking at the screen it pointed in the dirrection the oon was rising for that day, and what time it would show up.
I havent found anything like it for android, but i havent been digging at all either. I am open to suggestions because when searching all you find is deluxe moon. Oh joy
I found it, Ephemeris 1.0

Check out SunDroid or EphemDroid.
I've looked at those before. Nothing like what that other app did for me. That app I linked tells you a lot simpler terms the info I want for night fishing. You simply go to the compass page and select the moon and it shows you where its rising, and what time you'll see it. The other Alps you linked are for someone who knows what it all means

Actually I just learned that fishing calendar is working withourba forceclose if I launch it by the widget and not the apps shortcut. Weird

Navigation

What navigation options come out of the box
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Bing Maps, thats it
But does that actually navigate

Google maps has always sucked. Just go and test the maps yourself at a phone store.
Google maps may suck for y , but the other 100 million users LOVE IT

I find the navigation on Bing maps to be better than Google. I like how it will tell me things while driving like turn left on 'x' street...there is a 7-11 on the corner...Little things like that make it stand out to me and really useful.
While I'm a big fan of all things Google, Bing maps are actually better looking and easier to use imo. I have integrated sat nav in the car but my phone is nicer to look at, faster and easier to use.
Yes the Bing navigation blows away google maps, in my experience. Google maps would have me lost as hell, Bing gets me exactly where I need to get. And with them integrating Nokia maps into WP soon, it will only get better.
Sent from my Kick Ass Lil Radar using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I dont mean to be stupid but I have a RADAR, how do I get it to voice activate for navigation. it only gives me like a list of steps and turns but it does not actually speak "turn left, or 7-11 at the corner"
what am i missing?
Thanks
The nav on the Radar blows when compaired to Google Nav. Not being able to have a screen with a full map only part of the screen with a map sucks. Now when you look at Nokia Drive which has the 3D nav. That looks so much better. MS has some work to make there Nav better then google. Yes maybe the information that bing maps gives you is better, but looking at the interface it blows ass.

Same problem.... if I accept that "navigation" is just a tiny map in portrait only, and the various directions are just text, I still cannot use the thing - the screen blanks after the usual time-out.
On the face of it, this looks utterly pants - unless I've missed something fundamental.

Google Maps and Bing each have their own problems. I recently tested out the Windows MAP app and it works okay. It definitely sounds better than the default robot voice you get with Goole Navi (which can be corrected but you have to purchase the natural sounding voice). My problem is it's not completely hands-free. I have not had the issue of the screen timing out. What it does is read you the directions step by step and at every 1-2 steps, you have to tap the screen to receive the next set of instructions: not all of us are rolling with a co-pilot.
I am very happy with offline navigation on my radar. I unlock the device using chevron and than put Navigon 4.1 on it with newest maps from 2012. The maps are great a lot of POI. I go to Paris on trip and use Radar often to find some POI's in Paris very quick response it starts very fast localization. The phone works great for navigation. Battery life is perfect.

How to you prevent google play upgrade?

I have the apk for the 3.4.4 market. I froze the market updater but when I install the Market apk within 5 minutes it updates to play. Is there a way to prevent the upgrade?
What's the big deal with preventing the update? Looks like exactly the same market with a name change to me. Just wondering what I'm missing and in no way trying to be a jerk.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
You dont want to stop the update because if you do, you will not be able to get apps or update current apps with the old market.
Anything else that relies on the newer market will fail as well. I doubt you could stop it anyway..
Install an older version of the Market and use Titanium Backup to freeze the Market Updater...but there's no good reason to not update.
The new market is great! LOL, it is pretty much the same. The only difference if you have a tablet and that allowed you to purches music through the app. Again looks pretty much the same. New name

personally the name change is annoying as all hell, google quit trying to program your brand name in my brain, when i want to buy and app or something i want to go to the market or to the store, not go to the google and pick up a new app.
every-time i'm in a rush trying to pull something from the app market i can't find the bloody icon because i'm looking for the market or in the old location on my app drawer, minor change i know but i have caught myself cussing at google when i needed to re-d/l my gps app after it crashed during a trip i as on a few days ago.
any chance of renaming the new app back to market without root?
Just use a launcher and if already do, just change the name duh..lol that's what I did ....

I also would like to learn how to get around using Play. The new terms seem to allow Google to read my sms messages and record the message routing. I don't think my correspondents would appreciate having their thoughts being part of Google's repertoire.

What conspiracy theorist cooked that up?
The only way to get around using Google Play is to not use android. What you're asking is the equivalent of saying you want to use an iDevice without the app store.

Looks like Ill be going back to a simple phone as I agree with the previous poster... Google is requiring a full disclosure of everything you do. Not just GPS tracking...

You can download apps from other sites like blackmart

Memory needs > any update
I have a very good reason for not wanting auto-upgrades. Radio Shack misled me about the HTC Wildfire S and now I've got jack for memory. I have four apps installed, use only the native message app, and I'm lucky to have 25mb free. Anything less than that and the phone works as well as the Pony Express does today.
FWIW, Tandybot told me I could always install apps on the SD card. In theory, yes, but so few app devs code apps to work in that manner. Lesson learned.
kite edit: SNIP! No need for that kind of attitude around here, I'm afraid.

Yep, there was a google maps update this morning for me and the widget is gone
it's mistakes like these that I think makes people annoyed at google.
Somewhere in project management they screwed up. Meanwhile they'll bring this back a few weeks later.
I know its so annoying as I use it a lot.

They won't be releasing the source code for Maps, it's their own proprietary software. Though there are plenty of API's to hook into maps and lattitude so I doubt it will be long before there are numerous widgets in the Play Store.

I don't think the removal of the widget is something Google missed, it's more than likely been removed intentionally.
Edit: It's likely been removed dude to the fact that Lattitude and nearby friends as linked into Google Now, which notifies automatically and has a card. Moving the feature to be an integral part of the OS rather than just sitting in an optional application.
Where did you get this information from? Is it just a guess, as I can not find a "friends" or any kind of Latitude-related card in google now?
If you want it badly enough you could just uninstall the recent maps update, I tried it and could get the widget back.

This worked for me, uninstall then reboot, latitude widget back and auto updates off for maps.
Any chance they will put it back in next release?
Try this
Here is a post from the Verizon forum. I haven't checked it on my phone yet so hopefully this is accurate:
Found it. The shortcut is gone and I can't find any other actual evidence of it but if you go into Google Maps and click the icon in the upper left corner it brings down a menu and latitude is on there.
My Latitude icon is missing as well, but there is a Latitude layer on Google Maps. My friends are still there, its just less convenient to get to.
Yep I think the widget is gone forever and ever lol I have gotten used to using latitude through the maps now
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Well according to this post from an google emplyoee, It does seem the widget being gone is a fact, and only worth mentioning via a one line edit.
God they just don't care. And google now isn't something I can get on my ole Orig Evo I believe...
