Soft Brick...but I wasnt Hardware Locked Before.... - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all I recently installed Bionix 1.6. I didnt like the AllBlack theme so I flashed the black-to-stock theme, and now I keep getting force close loops, and I cant seem to access recovery. I KNOW for a fact that my phone wasnt hardware locked before.
When booting, Vibrant DOES flash a second time, but it just goes right to the Galaxy S boot animation after that.
I did a nandroid, so all I need is to get into recovery and Im good.
Any help?

I had a similar issue, I dont know if there is a quicker way to do this, but I odin'd back to stock, then rooted, downloaded recovery and nandroid from there.
Hope that helps

Is it even possible that my device somehow became hardware locked later on down the line? I ask because I cant seem to get into download mode either... Ive never heard of this, but any confirmation of that would ease my mind. I've seen people on here who can get into recovery but still have trouble getting into download mode.
Also when people with hardware locked phones attempt recovery, do they still get the Vibrant screen to flash a second time?
EDIT: I got into recovery through "adb reboot recovery"...sigh...Im going to see if I can get this back to normal from here.

Recovering recovery?

So I accidenty installed clockworkmod even though its not supported thinking that its just an app that i can uninstall like any other. Im not sure if it replaced the original recovety app or not, but i want to get rid of it anyway.
Should i just wait for a supported version to come out or is there an easy way to flash the orig. recovery partition? I dont need the recovery thing yet but considering the fact that i have rich history of doing bad decision with my device i propably will need it pretty soon.
So how can i recover my recovery and get rid or that damn clockwork thing?
Ok, I booted to recovery mode and it's not replaced. It seemed to start up just fine. So I don't think the ClockworkMod does anything on my device, so I might as well leave it there for now. I would still like to get rid of it but I havent been able to find a way to remove it.

Bricked Vibrant

I got myself a bricked Vibrant from someone and trying to fix it.
I'm guessing the dude tried to flash captivate stuff on it, because the boot image is AT&T.
Anyway, I was able to odin back to stock 2.1, which seemed to make the power button work again because it would start up and show the AT&T logo but that's it.
Then I tried odin'ing a vibrant bootloader, which got me to replace the AT&T logo with a green andy logo, but same thing, stuck.
So I tried reflashing 2.1 with odin again. Now the boot logo is back to the stock i9000 > Vibrant, but then it stops here. I can't seem to be able to enter the 2e(or 3e?) stock recovery.
Any idea on what else I can try flashing to it?
Update: I tried flashing the froyo bootloader, which did get me to the stock recovery, but again - i can't seem to get this phone past this stage, doesn't boot into the OS.

So what is your desired ROM after flash?
I suggest that you should flash it to LidDroid with Vibrant bootloader. From that, you can upload the phone to 2.3, 3.0 or ICS 4.0 ROM.
On mobile now so I cannot giive you the download links for needed files. If you need them, just post a reply in the thread.
Thanks, I tried LidDroid
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058802
And flashed Froyo and GB bootloaders, nothing is working. It just shows boot screen then still shuts down.
Update: Well I'm not sure what the issue is, I was able to get it to boot to the lock screen once, but then it shut down right after. Now I can only get it back to boot image before shutting down.
The thing I noticed is that the phone gets hot really fast, so maybe it's drawing too much power somewhere and its shutting down as a protection. Also the stock batteries don't seem to work for it, just this particular battery that it came with, which the contacts on the battery are flush with the edge of the battery instead of indented like the stock ones.
What you should do is take out your sim card and external sd card if you have one, use odin to flash back to stock rom (either 2.1 or 2.2), wait for it to load up as it might take a few minutes after you see the Vibrant logo (just be patient). If you get this far and you see the operating system, flash clockwork recovery on it.
If you can get this far, let us know then we'll talk about custom roms. The main purpose now is to get it running stock, we can worry about the custom stuff later.

[Q] AT&T splash screen loop

So, SGH-177 had been rooted and installed CM7, then Unnamed, then AOKP. All were pretty buggy. We wanted to bring it back to factory (with root if possible). Not for a warranty claim, just so it would be somewhat stable.
Anyway, I found a one click ODIN solution for UCKH7 stock. I used that, it passed. then the phone just looped through the AT&T "Rethink Possible" splash screen. I tried to get into recovery mode, but it wouldn't load, so I flashed the Siyah kernel to get CWM on there. Still I can only get into download mode and the phone loops the splash screen.
I hoped that it was just taking some time to load up the first time, so I left it overnight. Still stuck on the splash screen this morning.
I spent hours on here last night and found lots of people saying that if you have access to download mode, or recovery mode, you should be able to fix it. I wasn't able to find any answers as to how.
Help?!
I've had this same problem before. what always fixes it for me is to get into the factory 3e recovery to do a reset. I know you said you couldnt get there but make sure (while the phone is off; remove battery if you have to before this) you are holding down both Volume buttons and the power button at the same time until you see the "Samsung Galaxy SII" screen, then release the buttons.
factory reset, then it should be fine.
If you can't get to recovery, read some more on here. I'm sure something is out there, but I don't know what it is.
Here are two posts that might help you out. I've been doing the same research since my "Oh crap its stuck in a bootloop I'll sell it cheap on eBay" SGII is due to arrive today or tomorrow.

Best of luck to you!
UnNamed buggy?
Out of curiosity how did you root and flash, cause that is probably one of the most stable builds we have with minor changes to stock.
Anyways good luck getting back to stock.
So, for some reason, the next time I tried booting into recovery, it worked. I got a couple errors, but then it booted up just fine. Don't know why it wouldn't get into recovery before.
Everything seems to be working as it should so far.
I'm guessing this may be why some of the threads I had seen didn't really offer a solution. Sometimes it finally works if you just hold your head right.
Thanks all!
Regarding UnNamed... I don't recall the method I used to root, it's been a long time and I've done various work on this (my wife's phone) and my Nexus One. Easy to get it confused. I flashed it through CWM recovery, factory wipe, flash from SD.
It worked fine for a while (a couple months), then it got really glitchy. Unable to answer phone calls, random reboots, etc.

Did you also wipe cache and dalvik? May have been the problem...
I don't recall, but would be surprised if I hadn't done that
A year ago. When I first started flashing roms. I spent an entire week just reading the atrix forums and learning. I planned. I schemed. I asked questions. Through pm. And googled a LOT. Then when I had learned enough I did it. Point is....if yer not willing to have patience and learn as much as u can before u jump into this. Then its maybe not for you.

[Q] New to posting, not new to the forum

Hi everyone,
I have been frequenting XDA for quite a while. Hugely into android and custom roms and things of the sort, but have never had a real reason to post. I have either been lucky enough to be able to find what I need by searching, or figured it out myself. This time however, I am pretty stumped.
I did a fair amount of research before starting this, and am now seeing that I did not do quite enough. If I am in the wrong place please direct me to a better one.
Here is my issue:
I have an LG g2 that I recently picked up used. Phone has never been rooted or worked on...until now. Decided I would spend my weekend working on it. Successfully rooted, and installed TWRP. Decided to flash a rom, downloaded my rom as I have always done, put it on the sdcard, made a couple of nandroids, and flashed it. Everything seemed ok, booted back up, got the correct boot animation, but it bootlooped. No big deal Im thinking, go back into recovery and wipe a couple times. Still wont boot. Go back in and restore my nandroids, and they wont boot either.
So now I am worried. Try it a coulple more times, and somehow get it to reboot to the setup screen. Wont go past there. Do the trick to avoid it and cant get it to activate. Double check everything, power off, wipe, power back on and now it wont even load to there. I tried sideloading a different rom as well as what seems to be the stock software and nothing. Im lost, I need help. Any advice?

Sounds like you need to restock and start over. I'd give you links but how to do so varies by which version or carrier the phone is from.

Bricked gpower

While trying to load a rom, I got a failed message, damn cat ran across the desk and it rebooted, I was to the point I should of flashed the overlay, did NOT make it that far. It boots up to the welcome screen, but I have no access to hit "start" as my touch screen is not working. Is it done for? I cant see it any longer in adb devices, so I cant continue where I left off. Linux cant see it at all. Windows knows its there. So it did not make a complete fash, it tried to reboot into stock i assume, looks stock. What can I do at this point? Any help would be great.

I got in. I can not enter fastbootd, and do not know where its saved. Can some one help me get my recovery back? I flashed a recovery backup, but it comes up witht he little dead andriod and no command error. I need to get to fastbootd. Any help would be wonderful.
If you can get into fastboot, isn't there a tool, LMSA rescue to bring back bricked device? wipes all data though.
Were you trying a custom ROM or stock? try booting to fastboot mode, power + vol-down, and fastboot flash the stock boot.img, can be found here: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/sofia/official/
hope this helps. I just got the phone yesterday, soft bricked trying to flash magisk, flashed stock boot and was back in business. I was not using any type of custom rom though.
I was able to find stock boot and recovery images, which allowed me to just start over. Here is an screen shot of what would happen when flashing any ROM.
That's two different attempts. With two different errors.
On a crazy note, I ordered and got in the exact same phone off eBay, has lineage os, magisk, twrp. Now from what I've read, twrp can't be used to install ROMs yet. I've actually tried it on the problem phone we are working on here, but can't swipe with it. The screen is not correctly responsive. Yet this eBay phone, works great... Not sure how he did it. Id love to figure this out, I can't let it beat me.
