It was working fine a few days ago, but now it can't even be detected on my computer! any suggestions?
I didn't buy the phone at a provider (rogers, telus) but I got it at a store that sells the entire phone to you. Does anyone know if the SE will still fix it under warranty or any way to check?
you might have a broken USB socket. it has happened to a few people. try a different cable first, then take it back to where you bought it from. good luck.

I know many of the construction business he has do well but he cellular is taking a beating. I know in Algeria he has problems and it is costing him I was wondering if there is anything in the news about this?!
thanks

it is not about money my friend because as "forbes" he is one of the richest ppls on earth, but 2 days ago he announced that will free him self for charity work and will leave the business. so maybe this is why left the cell in Canada, another information to know he owns "Orascom Telecom" which is one of the mobile network manager in the world, believe me he went into many tenders in the world against the giants and he won.

Yes I see what you mean.. I have read about his exploits and he wins big and loses just as big. The media has not been kind towards him and his company so I was curious how he is received back home. What I have read is he controls the media in Egypt and Reuters is most critical of his dealings, the back room deals with dictators and with despots is that of legend. Now with North Korea and that mad man form Iran.. this can not be good for his ego. What has been said is that once he leave it will be a different company. thank you for your comments!

I'm travelling to NYC in a few weeks and am really interested in buying this phone. The cheapest way I found is ordering it from Clove or Handtec and have it sent to a Fedex office for me to pick it up (it will be impossible to receive it at my place).
The only inconvenient I have is that I will be here for 11 days, and in case i order it 3 or 4 days before leaving i don't know if I will receive it on time, as I'm not familiar with US customs.
If anyone has another idea, please tell me, as I'm desiring to buy this phone from a long time now and in Argentina is impossible to do so (it's $1300 at least!).
Thanks for your help and excuse me for my english, I'm working on it
Cheapest way to get it my my opinion would be to Purchase it on www.expansys-usa.com its 719.99 use promo LSJUNE25 for 25$ off. Have it shipped and call fedex to hold at fedex location. Goto the fedex location and pick it up. I got it over at expansys it took 3 days to deliver to NYC and I live in NYC. It's really upto you. If you are staying at a hotel, you can get it shipped to the hotel and get it. If you need any help let me know.
The phone actually cost me 694.99 after the 25$ off. If you sign up for ebates.com you can get 26.50 cash back so that will drop the price even further.
Also.. No tax/ free shipping over at expansys.
The only problem of buying at EXpansys US is that they require an US billing address, which I don't have. And I'm not staying at a hotel, it's an apartment where nobody will be available to receive it.
Check mobilecityonline. They are located in downtown NYC

MCO is an option, the only problem is it'll cost 100 bucks more as it's 740 plus tax. That is a bit off my budget , considering that from UK I can get it with case, screen protector and MHL adaptor for 750 with shipping.

Hmmm. Yes. Do you have any friends here in the US that you can give cash and they can order it for you from expansys? Also another idea, they have an option to pay with paypal. Maybe that will bypass the US billing address. Give them a call, They have great support working there. They'll help you out.

There´s no one I know that lives in the US, I've already contacted them and pretty much told me there's no way I could buy it. I'll try with Expansys UK, as I think they take international credit cards. I read in a thread that someone from NYC already bought from them. Thanks for your help.

Alright. Hope all ends well. Some tips for NYC... Please .. OH PLEASE! don't stand in the middle of the streets of nyc looking up at the pretty lights. People have to get places so move over to the side and don't stop randomly in the middle. That's the only reason i hate tourists. Other than that enjoy your trip!

Thanks but I want to buy a brand new.
Purchased a brand new EVO 3D off a guy on craigslist who swore it was all good. Called Sprint only to find out it has been reported as Lost or Stolen.
Guy of course will not return my calls now. What I can't believe is I asked if I could return the phone to Sprint so they can handle it, if it was stolen to return to the original owner or if reported lost it can now be found. They simply have no policy in place that allows for this.
So I'm basically screwed and have to try my luck selling a bad ESN phone on ebay (of course I will clearly list it as BAD ESN).

Maybe try calling back and talking to another associate. Or taking it to a local Sprint store. Or posting an ad somewhere, or with the local police department.
What an honorable thing to do though! I hope if I ever lose a phone, someone like you finds it.
That sucks bro, i know you can flag bad esn phones to metro pcs and cricket so you can market that in your eBay ad and still get top dollar for the phone. Best thing you can do in the future is have the seller meet you at Sprint saying you won't pay till its activated on your account or at least until the Sprint store confirms that it has a clean esn

You should have called Sprint while in front of the guy and asked the rep if the phone was good. They will tell you if it has a good ESN or bad. When I bought my 4G, I called them right in front of the guy I bought it from. Just a FYI from now on.
Edit: I guess that only works if you meet them to pick it up. I would never buy something off Craigs List any other way. The few times I have purchased something from someone on Craigs, I met them in person.

I got a call back from Sprint to ask about my experience with the representative (who tried everything to help me, even told me about the buyback program that I could try) and I asked again and was told unfortunately they simply have no procedure/policy in place for such a thing.
They basically just take it as a loss and thank you I appreciate that. I would love if I lost my phone that someone would try to return it too so I tried doing right by whoever had the phone stolen or lost. I believe in Karma, the bastard who ripped me off will get his dues!

Yeah, I think I would talk to the police and give them a copy of the CL ad (if you have it) and the guys number. You might never get your money back, but maybe you can get him arrested.
Or you could try to trace the number, get his address and open up a can of whip-ass on him. It's not like he will report you to the police. "Yeah, I sold this guy some stolen stuff and he assaulted me." LOL
Google reverse phone lookup. You might be able to get their address from the number like others said. That sucks though..
Miami here...and add me to the Flash Mob!!... To the FBI if reading this: its a joke calm down lol
You guys are awesome. I'm in Louisiana and if I wasnt so far away you could have added me to the list also. Nothing more I hate than a thief and a liar.

Thanks everyone for the support! I really appreciate it. Turns out he was using a textfree service number so no luck there; not that I was going to confront him. Rather lose some money then the possibility of the guy carrying a weapon and using it against me.
It is MIAMI, crazy fools out here!
Thanks again for all the kind support though guys, I feel a lot better and I already managed to sell the phone on ebay. Made sure buyer understood Sprint would not activate it and he is none the less happy with his purchase.
What a bummer man, I'm sorry that happened to you. I use Craigslist all the time to buy and sell phones. Never had s problem yet but I always get the esn before ill even meet the person. But for sure you can flash it to metro pcs and sell it that way. I'm in Detroit and people will post that their phone has a bad esn and people still buy them all day long..
Sent from my PG86100
Maybe you can go into the EPST and see what the previous owner's email/phone number was. Or maybe some files on the SD card will give you a clue.
Or post an ad in the found section of Craigs but say you'll only give it to the person who has the box with the IMEI number on it.

Definitely, call the police and report this. Since it is a new phone, you may be able to get a felony charged to him. Isn't theft of items over $500 a felony? The phone new is is $550 bucks. That is a felony. Please do it. People like that do not deserve any ounce of niceness, pity, or the right to vote. Please, please report him. I know how you feel. I was scammed once like this. A guy my sister knew(not really a friend just someone she knew) said he needed money pay rent or he was going to be evicted and he could trade a Wal-Mart gift card for the cash. He had a $300 gift card and needed $100 bucks to pay rent. So I thought why not because I can check the balance of the card before I give him the cash. And that the gift card is only good to him if he buy something at Walmart and not to pay rent. Plus my sister said he was a cool guy. I meet him and he dials his phone on speaker to check the balance of the card. The balance on a card comes to just at $300. So, I'm like awesome I've helped someone out and got a nice deal. I get home and start shopping on Walmart.com for a TV I've been wanting. I go to check out and the card says there's insufficient funds available on it. Turns out that the guy switched the cards. I was pissed. My sister found out that he had a drug problem and he had done this to other "friends". I reported him and he was arrested. He had done it to at least 4 other people. I should have checked the balance myself, but since my sister said he was cool, I thought hearing it from his phone was enough to be legit. Being scammed does make one feel dumb, but they have practice at doing it. They make it their job. And we all tend to get good at our jobs. Please report him. I feel for you, bro. Good luck.
-Ken
I hate to hear stories like this. I have followed up on (3) incidents involving cell phone fraud/abuse/theft and can verify (1) arrest from it. Cell phone companies will take the loss in lost/stolen equipment but there is no limits to what you can do personally in exacting justice on these criminals.
Always remember: Evil prevails when good men do nothing...
I wish you the best in this situation, however I do agree that doing anything that would endanger personal safety is not worth it...
Um... call the police?
Just a thought though...
I could be WAY off on this one.

Europe implemented this a LONG time ago. Now it's the USA's turn.
Find/steal a smartphone? Once it's reported stolen, it's useless.

As a person who holds his devices with a cobra clutch AND happens to stumble across "lost" devices regularly, how does this benefit ME?!
it doesnt "affect" us at all. its peaceful to know that the person who has your phone, now, can't use it.

As the old adage goes, finders keepers...you know the rest. The implications of this are too great! What If, unbeknownst to him, a guy buys a stolen device only to find that it doesn't work because the carrier has blacklisted his device? Its unfair to leave Joe Schmoe out in the cold! They should just stick to sim-blocking, its not like the carriers lose any money when a device is stolen.
It's a good step but it doesn't address the fact that your stolen phone can be used in a different country.

This is largely the reason that people steal cellphones to begin with.
If it can't be used, then eventually Joe Schmoe will realize he can't just buy a stolen phone expecting it to work. If the thieves can't sell it, then it is only useful for the data contained within, which really kills the profitability of stealing it in the first place. This eventually leads to fewer stolen phones. Finders keepers? Sounds like you may be a bus or taxi driver. Taxi drivers can sell phones they "find" in their cabs for a higher price if its not wiped or locked. I know if I leave my phone somewhere or if it falls out of my pocket, I want it to be of no use to anyone else, ever. Except for dialing 911.
While I agree that the carriers should be more responsible when it comes to stolen/lost devices, I think there should be SOME sort of way to use them again. Maybe a re-activation fee after 90 days of it reported lost/stolen or something along those lines. This would be the best of both worlds as it would hopefully deter thieves as they wouldn't be able to sell the phones RIGHT AWAY, but yet the phones aren't just wasted.

Just a couple of borked flashes and voila, you have a generic IMEI
I for one am glad they are finally doing this. Had my original Captivate stolen when it was only 4 months old, right out of my purse. With cell phone companies finally attempting to stop the thieves, hopefully thefts will dwindle. I plan on adding my old Cappie's IMEI# to the database as soon as I can... Just because (even though it was stolen 16 months ago).

So? Stolen property is stolen property. You get in trouble with receiving other stolen goods, there is no reason why this should be different. If my phone gets stolen, i want it deader than a doornail; NO ONE else should have the right to use it again.
As it is, it takes all of two min to call the carrier, and verify the IMEI before buying; anyone who won't give it to you before hand should not be purchased from.

This is a good point. Take the battery out of the phone you want to purchase and call the cell carier and have them run the IMEI to make sure its not stolen.
Well played.
What stops one from be-n a prick and selling u a phone then calling it stolen? Guess u will now want a bill of sale when buying a phone. Me I just always buy brand new and never have to worry. I do like the idea of someone not able to use a stolen device, incase I ever lose line.

That's pretty far fetched, maybe if someone really hated you they'd do that but why would you buy from that guy anyway, their is nothing to gain for the seller in reporting a sold phone as stolen, and in cases like ebay etc would only lead to bad feedback, it's not a big issue.
I'd just like to see them make the database internet searchable, so I don't have to call and wait on hold to check an IMEI, I buy and sell used phones regularly.
I'll be honest it was nice and easy to buy used AT&T and T-mobile phones without this, Verizon and Sprint always had this with ESN's and you have to be more careful purchasing them used.
But reducing cellphone theft is worth the hassle.

Found out today the frigging thing as been blocked and after speaking to o2 they cant unblock it without the original owner which i haven't got as the little **** as closed his account. Am guessing theres fuk all i can do but i thought i would at least try
It's illegal to override a block in the UK. I'm guessing it's an insurance job where they've reported it as stolen to make a claim. Where did you purchase the phone from? Was it eBay as you may have some protection with Paypal if you report it within the time limit?

Reported for unhelpful spam.
Back on topic, OP first take the phone to the police with any emails and invoices to prove you bought it legitimately, O2 should have an audit trail and if it was an insurance job the police should be able to find out who owned it and potentially arrest them for fraud, they are also the only people who could give concrete advice.
If you bought it via paypal you can open a dispute with the seller, and ultimately get your money back.
What ever you do, don't look into getting the imei changed or look at any ways to overwrite the block, this is illegal and it would make you look bad.

How is it helpful? Helpful is offering advice, then saying "next time please post questions in Q&A" it makes you look better, gives you some thanks and stops the community hating you.
Wish it was as simple as that i bought it from facebook and the little sh1t as closed his account. A friend was on facebook saw it and knew i was after a new phone

No recollection of the name from facebook, any messages? I would say take it to the police though, they would be the only ones that could get the phone unblocked legally if it's possible.
You bought a phone from Facebook? What were you thinking of?

Totally true.
Anyway, if you can, try to locate the person who sold you the phone to return the money you pay for it, bring a few friends with you
Good luck!
I would happily let him keep the money if i could kick his head everywhere
If you do get any details on the seller/original owner I could check to see if there have been any insurance claims via household insurance etc.
Alternatively, do you have a rough idea of when it may have been stolen, can at least try to narrow it down (then possibly locate the owner via imei etc if we've had their claim).
Couldn't give confidential information out, but could generic.

Give me a rough idea of what area of the UK its from, approx how old an last 4 digits of the imei, I'll check tomorrow see If anything comes up. No harm in trying.
Failing that I could find out how much we sell components for (thinking motherboard from screen damaged claim).

I bought it of someone near Pwllheli North Wales around the end of March but if it was stolen it doesn't mean its from around there as you get a lot of holiday makes. IMEI 2885
Hi, this may be a long shot, but when are you going abroad next? Or if a friend is going abroad, take the phone with you/them, try it out of the UK. If it works, then I might have it off you!! I am emmigrating to OZ next year, so I don't care if it doesn't work in the UK, as long as it works overseas, it's fine.
What color is it? Blue or white?

Or doesn't pay their EIP on it or says they didn't receive it and sells it. There's many ways T-Mobile phones can be blacklisted.

Basically it's junk use it on WIFI or be just as dishonest as the person who sold it to you. Or be honest & maybe someone will but it to use on WIFI. But blacklisted it's a brick. No amount of flashing or roms can change an imei. It still does everything the phone can do, but it will never have cellular service.

I feel for you, man. I got my One just a few days ago and seriously considered buying secondhand because I wanted to buy the phone outright and used phones run a couple hundred less. Ultimately I decided there was too much risk and it was worth the peace of mind to buy a new phone directly from TMO. You can't even trust buying a sealed phone still in the package from a third party, since people can steal them in transit or from the store and when the store does inventory and finds the phone missing it goes dead.
Contacting the police and filing a police report is about all you can do. Depending on how stupid the seller was, how much information you got and how motivated the cops are to follow up on your case, you may get your money back. As for the phone, it will not work on any of the US carriers or their MVNOs. About the only option is selling it on eBay to someone overseas. You can sell them on eBay as long as you disclose it has a bad IMEI.

No, don't sell it on ebay. When selling it on ebay you have to wait at least 2 or 3 days for the buyer to confirm whether or not the phone is working or not under some circumstances. The buyer can easily file a complaint using the resolution center thus resulting in the money that the buyer gave to you being locked until the problem is resolved. It's best to do it through craigslist since ebay and paypal have all those fees anyways.

I live in the US, so I've never tested it myself but I've heard from others on this board and elsewhere they bought bad IMEI phones for use in foreign countries and the phones worked. There is actually a huge international black market in stolen phones run by organized crime just for that purpose.

Uh, no. That's not what I'm saying at all. I am absolutely against selling a phone and not disclosing it has a bad IMEI. For some users, bad IMEIs don't matter. They either don't apply in the person's country, or the buyer is equipped to swap the motherboard with one from a damaged phone with a good IMEI. Those are the people you want to sell to.
bad imei
This happened to me as well. I bought an s4 from a guy he had changed the imei. I checked back of phone it in fact did not match the actual phone imei. Yet it worked fine. Anyway if u get a bad imei phone if u sim unlock it u can use it on any network but tmobile as long as its a gsm network. U can sell it to someone who intends to use it on att
