Tut: Original Android Emotions how to? - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

I've edited the framework-res.apk and added the original android emotions replacing the default ones . This framework-res.apk is the blue theme , not the new black one. ( I still like the blue )
Pic attached ( sorry for the low quality )
( COPY framework-backup-res.apk to sdcard and rename it to framework-res.apk )
I found out a way hw not to brick your phone during this process , go to settings>applications>development>Stay awake (click) , once you screen is on -
*** adb shell
*** su
*** mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2 /system
*** busybox cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
as soon as you type this your phone reboots without a brick!!
I'm working on the default white status bar and will be out soon. Let me know if you guys want the black theme with the default emotions

Great work, black theme with those emoticons would be fantastic!

2.1 on Mini Pro exp ..

Hi All,
Here I am expressing the overall exp after upgrading my mini pro with german build no (I am from India).
Here are the things I noticed on this NEW mini pro -
1) The home is same like before. Only the lock screen is different. Look screen is nice for me
2) I found the speed is like 10-15% more than 1.6.
3) Some really good and useful widget has been given like Market, smart search, recent calls etc.
4) The setting app is different from look and feel point of view and nice also.
5) If you tap the member of recent call , you will get all the options like message, mail, call with a floating pop up- nice feature.
6) Phone book is more or less same
7) The games are like before. like ****.
8) Calculator got two screen, scroll left to get another screen.
9)live wallpaper support, but no live wallpaper given.
10)No app installer so if you cannot install anything from SD card unless by hook and crook you install a folder-explorer. You can install your first explorer like astro by sending via bluetooth. And then get everything from your SD card.
11) If you set live wallpaper then it will take ages to get the unlock screen. This can be fixed if you user other launcher - I am using AWD with some good theme.
So if you like default home + live wallpaper, you feel like to through your phone
12) Picking up the incoming call is really nice now (at least far better from previous version)
13) In call volume is more or less same I found.
14) Music player does not have album tab the same as before, sound quality is better I believe.
15) Camera has same options like before
16) Web browser got double tap for zoom in an out.
17) Now they have given places and navigation app, I don't have internet on my phone, so could not check it .
18) Album does is same before. No rotate functionality.
What is your opinion?
hi desh lit
Can u upload the german build prop thanks
Can you check if the phone calls recording works with 2.1?
I don't want to loose this feature.
Also
If I upgrade to 2.1 will it be possible to downgrade later ?
If I were you i should change to Launcher pro, it works much faster and so on but the only minus with launcher pro is that it does not have as much customizable things as adw launcher.
German build.prop would be very much appreciated
Sorry for the delay-
I have attached the build.prop.
HOW TO -
1) Open cmd from run in windows. Go to the directory where this build.prop is kept in your laptop.
2) copy or write - "adb push fbuild.prop /sdcard/build.prop" - this will copy the build.prop into your sdcard folder of your phone.
3) copy or write - "adb shell"
4) copy or write - "su" now you will get # in cmd promt
5) copy or write - "mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2 /system" - this will give you the write permission on the system folder.
6) copy or write - "busybox cp /sdcard/build.prop /system/build.prop" - replace the old build.prop with new one.
7) copy or write - "reboot".
After reboot connect your phone to PC Companion , that will do the rest.

Thank you dude,I mixed Exploid - root for X10 mini & your method ..
I got an update. Upgrading now
But mine is E10i.I used build.prop for E10i.
1238-7173, u20i SG version comes with Application Installer. When u start it the application, it scans ur SD card for all apk files. So if you already backup all ur application to ur sd, its pretty useful.

7.) Go to classout\com\android\server\status\StatusBarIcon.smali
8.) On line 34 it will look something like: "const/4 v7, -0x1"
9.) On line 34 change the above to: "const v7, 0xffffff" (That will be black)
10.) Compile the classes.dex by using this command: "java -Xmx512M -jar smali.jar classout/ -o new-classes.dex"
11.) Get the new-classes.dex from android-sdk-windows\tools\ folder & move it to your desktop
12.) Rename new-classes.dex to classes.dex
13.) Re-open the services.jar using winrar & past your new classes.dex in there
(Notice: After editing the clock color, it will take longer to boot the first time! Be patient!)

This is awesome.
shouldnt you be able to change the ffffff in "const v7, 0xffffff" to whatever color you want?
Yeah, you can change it to whatever you want.. When I get home I'll add the directions to change the text color in the pull down and market downloads...

It would actually be
"const v7, 0xffff0000" for red, etc. But yes, you can change that value.
Possibly one of the most helpful threads. Just enough to make me feel I have 1/2 a brain.
stuck
Hey I'm new to this and first of all thank you so much for this!
Second I'm having a problem, I'm stuck at "java -Xmx512M -jar smali.jar classout/ -o new-classes.dex"
I keep getting "classout\com\android\server\status\StatusBarIcon.smali[0,0] 10145074 connot fit into a short"
I'm trying to change the status bar clock to Green.
Thank you again.

Sorry I wasn't using my half a brain I found my mess up I over looked the "const/4"
I will take it that I don't need apk manager. Just need to unpack, repack, and sign. I could also just use a Hex editor to change the colors on the things I would like to change such as date, notification text, etc.. Just like I did with the G1.

I am pretty sure you can't use Hexedit to edit the Clock. You need to decompile it.
Also, you don't sign /system apks
Awesome! I barely qualify as a 1/2 brain. ApkManager is sweet simple program that does the job. In the many times I have used it, I noticed that recompilation of the files are not clean after images have been change/edit. So I always optimize images inside (option 2) everytime I recompile. Does this help and worth doing?
BTW: what xml editor are you guys using? Some of the ones that I downloaded are crap.

HOW TO MAKE THEMES
There are 2 types of themes you can make :-
1.Involving systemUI.apk and framework-res.apk
2.Involving the T-mobile Theme engine
I will begin with LEVEL (1)
There are two ways of doing this as well
1.Classic Way
2.The spaarc's cheap way (I use this one )
CLASSIC WAY
Requirements :-
1.A cool head
2.Apk Manager 4.4 (OR any APK editor , etc )
3.Original Framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk
4.Themed Framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk
OR
4.Many .PNG Images , In order to theme
Method :-
1.Use apk manager to decompile the original AND Themed apk's(i.e If you have a themed one)
2.ONLY Replace files found in /res/drawable-hdpi folder
3.ReCompile
4.Just replace Using RootExplorer or make a update.zip
Spaarc's Cheap Way
This is top secret , but i will tell it you
Requirements :-
1.Computer
2.7-zip
3.Original Framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk
4.Themed Framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk
OR
4.Many .PNG Images , In order to theme
Method :-
1.Use 7-zip to extract the apk
2.Replace files
3.Repack as zip using 7-zip again
4.Rename to ".apk"
5.Replace and Enjoy
T-MOBILE THEME CHOOSER
Follow this AWESOME guide
I don't have the time or patience of rewritting it in my cheeky tongue
Here , this completes your themeing guide
If you have any questions just Drop me a PM
HOW TO COMPILE CM7 ROMS FROM SOURCE
I have written this guide only for linux Users
Bibliography -
1.source.android.com
2.wiki.cyanogenmod.com
The guide starts here :-
Install the ADB
Install the Android SDK.
2.Install the Build Packages
Install using the package manager of your choice:
For 32-bit & 64-bit systems:
sudo apt-get install git-core gnupg flex bison gperf libsdl1.2-dev libesd0-dev libwxgtk2.6-dev squashfs-tools build-essential zip curl libncurses5-dev zlib1g-dev sun-java6-jdk pngcrush schedtool
For 64-bit only systems:
sudo apt-get install g++-multilib lib32z1-dev lib32ncurses5-dev lib32readline5-dev gcc-4.3-multilib g++-4.3-multilib
NOTE: gcc-4.3-multilib g++-4.3-multilib is no longer available for Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit, but should still build without issue.
NOTE: On Ubuntu 10.10, and variants, you need to enable the parter repository to install sun-java6-jdk:
sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ maverick partner"
This will get you all the resources you need to build your CyanogenMod ROM
3.Create the Directories
You will need to set up some directories in your build environment.
To create them:
mkdir -p ~/bin
mkdir -p ~/android/system
4.Install the Repository
Enter the following to download make executable the "repo" binary:
curl https://github.com/spaarc/tools_repo/repo > ~/bin/repo "OR" curl https://github.com/spaarc/tools_repo/blob/master/repo > ~/bin/repo
chmod a+x ~/bin/repo
NOTE: You may need to reboot for these changes to take effect.
Now enter the following to initialize the repository:
cd ~/android/system/
repo init -u git://github.com/CyanogenMod/android.git -b gingerbread
repo sync -j16
5.Copy proprietary files
NOTE: This only needs done the first time you build.
You will need to have a Xperia X10 with a working copy of CyanogenMod install and ADB working on the computer. This script will copy the proprietary files from the device.
Connect the device to the computer and ensure that ADB is working properly.
cd ~/android/system/device/SEMC/es209ra/
./extract-files.sh
NOTE: If some hardware isn't working, like camcorder or FM radio, you will need to find the updated prop blobs.
6.Download RomManager
NOTE: This only needs to be done when an update to RomManager is released. If you are-up-to date, you may skip to Building CyanogenMod.
Download RomManager which is needed by the build:
~/android/system/vendor/cyanogen/get-rommanager
7.Building CyanogenMod
Check for updates
First, check for updates in the source:
cd ~/android/system/
repo sync
Configure Build & Compile
Now, the environment must be configured to build and the ROM compiled, from code, for the Xperia X10
. build/envsetup.sh && brunch es209ra
Install
Copy your .zip file from ~/android/system/out/target/product/es209ra/update.cm-XXXXX-signed.zip to the root of the SD card.
Optional: Download Google Apps for CyanogenMod 7 and place it on the root of the SD card.
Flash both of these .zip files from recovery.

[root][illumination]PatternCtrler

SONY XPERIA U
First of all
Sorry for my bad English
I have written a little application in java (for windows / linux) that makes you to control full illumination
HowTo:
1. Make a Image with any Image Editor. (The Image must have 3px in With for the 3 leds) it should look like my example in downloads
2. Save the Picture as ".gif" (e.g. example.gif) anywhere in 8bit rgb (8bit red, 8bit green, 8bit blue)
3. Start the jar file with
3.1 (Windows) cmd -> java -jar PatternCtrler.jar
3.2 (Linux) Terminal -> java -jar PatternCtrler.jar
4. Open your pic with the "Open" button (The picture should be shown in the right of the window)
5. Enter a sleeptime (how fast should the illumination work [milliseconds])
6. Enter a loopsequence number (how often should the pattern loop)
7. Press the "BuildPattern Script" button (now you should see teh shell code for Linux)
8. Copy the code and insert it into a new file (e.g. example) without ending (e.g. .txt, ...)
9. Copy the file (e.g. example) to the root of your sd-card (e.g. with adb: adb push example /sdcard/)
10. Download a root explorer and copy the file (e.g. example) with root access to the directory "/system/bin/"
11. new alter permissions to 777 (e.g. in Android Terminal: chmod 777 /system/bin/example)

Click to collapse
The picture is very small so zoom in a while.
The hight of the picture is all the same! you can make it 10 pixels or 100 pixels
The Color of the Pixel is then the color of your led if the color is black the led is off if the color is white (red 255 green 255 blue 255) leds are white and so on..
Transparent: The Alpha chennal isn't necessary you can do it but only the bits of red green and blue will be read from the picture.
So. This mod will change the led instead of ussing default color from theme? And we can edit it the m0d to make proper mix led as default

Notification & Status Bar Disappeared!

Got my HTC Desire Z flashed to CM10.1 and have some tweaked but after I take two optimized commands into the file
/system/etc/init.d/00banner
Commands are about to boost up the reading speed of SDcard, type like
/system/xbin/echo "4096" > /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb;
/system/xbin/echo "4096" > /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/default/read_ahead_kb;
Actually I modified these files with RecoveryFileManager at first but I found that was failed after I reboot the device, so I just type these commands into the init.d, but after that, I just find my status bar and notification bar was lost and disappeared, not only home screen but also all around the surface in the system.
Is anyone could help here? Thank you very much!
Best.
take the systemui.apk and the frameworkres.apk and also the init folder from your cm10.1 zip and replace the current ones in your rom using root explorer.
these are located in system/app folder and the init folder is in system/etc
do not remember to ser the permission after replacing.
if this doesnt work just flash your cm10 zip again without wiping anything you will get your statusbar back.
hit thanx that means a lot to me.
