[Q] Deleting Android SDK from PC? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey whats up XDA? Ok, so before I had the Motorola Cliq and I rooted it and all that other stuff with Android SDK. This was about a year ago, and now I have the Samsung Vibrant. I want to do a clean install on the SDK and start it all over using the tutorials on this board. Is it as easy as deleting the root android SDK folder? and reinstalling the newest version?
The reason why I wanted to do this is because from last year, messing with the SDK seems like it was a lot more complicating. I remember renaming all of these folders and other stuff. But looking at the tutorials on these forums seems like its a lot easier. So I just want to make sure that I didnt mess a lot of stuff up from before, and just do a clean install on it.
Thanks for your help!

Hey guys! I got my atrix 4g around the end of may and i haven't regretted switching from iphone since! . But i don't know alot about android hacking, modding, tips, tricks, features, etc, so as you can see i need help. I was wondering if some of the AMAZING people on the android forum could maybe take me in as an "Apprentice" so that i could learn all the hacking and tricks about atrix or android in general , like i knew when i had an iphone?

How did you learn when you had your iPhone? In most cases most people will search and read this forum time after time and then they fig, it out. So my advice is to read and search before you want to start asking questions im sure somewhere on this thread there is the anwser you are looking for. If you cant find what your looking then you need to find someone in the dev. forum and be nice and they might will help you. There is alot of really good devs out there that are willing to help you. I am a noob too that came from iphone

Yup, read a lot, search a lot, and you will have to try a lot. If you follow instructions, most of the time everything will go fine, but if it doesn't, you also need to look for the answers you will need to get back on track. You will get frustrated a lot, but the best way to learn anything is to try things yourself, and learn by your mistakes.
There are plenty of resources outside of XDA to learn about Android. There are some very good guides in the Atrix forums here also which will help you. Don't expect the devs to teach you programming. You will have to learn that yourself, but the devs will help you when you get stuck...........if, as was said, you treat them nicely!
Remember to post in the correct forums also. You will bring down the fires of hell on you if you post questions in the dev forum, themes in the general forum, etc.
lol thank you both, if its not too much can i run a scenario by you?

1) HKTW is a Chinese version of ginergbread more or less (i.e. Hong Kong Tai Wan), that happens to be usable on a U.S. AT&T Atrix w/ a unlocked boot loader. It's pretty buggy, since it wasn't specially designed for our device or carrier.
2, 3 & 4) To return to stock, which you will have to do if you flash any ROM before being able to OTA (Over The Air) update, you have to flash (a nice word for install) a fresh sbf. A sbf file is a original source file from Motorola that upon installing (i.e. flashing) will return your device back to stock, more or less. For instance, if you were to flash the 1.26 sbf onto your phone, it would exactly like the way you got it from the store; everything back to "normal" and stock. So before you do this you make a backup of your stuff, preferably on a external sd card. That way if you have to flash a sbf file and return to stock for what ever reason, you can re-install your stuff with minimal effort. Here is a good guide for flashing a sbf, explaining what you need and what to do:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
and here is another for all the sbf files currently:

I'm sure you have more questions, so ask always, and I'll try to help when & where I can.
Ok, so I'm assuming you are running a U.S. AT&T Atrix??
So the first thing you are probably going to want to do is get Root access (like getting a jail break on iphone, more or less):
- If your on 4.1.83 firmware (the most current). You can check by going to setting -> About Phone -> System Version. You will need to use Gingerbreak to Root your phone. This will most likely wipe your phone, so save what you can on your pc, ext. sd card, etc.
Instructions here:

And Crap, my wife called and whats to grab a bite to eat... start there, and I'll edit and add to the post later.

SwiftKS,
Just wanted to say thanks. While your post doesn't help me directly, it is great to see people helping others out and not just flaming newbies. You are a credit to the community!

[Q] Compiling for x10

Hello and first of all I am completely new at this so any help would be great. I plan on releasing a ROM if I can get the hang of this so please don't complain that I'm just a noob trying to do something he can't.
Second this is my first time in development for Android and I have been experimenting with the SDK but I was wanting to know some questions first.
One is that how to I get the x10 specific add-on for the SDK since Sony Ericsson is gone the page that used to have it is now gone. Second is there any special things to compile the rom?
Sorry for the very noob sounding questions but I am completely new, my main reason for this is a learning thing. I want to learn for college and other reasons and I decided to make my project developing for the x10.
Thanks for help in advance.
go to chef central...
over there u can find a lot of cheff...
or search for "APKTOOL" and "android kitchen"
tool for decompile and more
Thanks, I'm searching the internet furiously for documents and other information, my first goal is to simply compile a stock android rom and get it working once I figure that out I'll work on learning to how make custom roms.
hey guys, I have learnt how to use Kitchen and got a successful rom! It is just another build of the default SE rom but it means it works.
My only question here is now do I get the system from stock android and replace the SE ones with it? I don't want to start removing things in case it doesn't work.

Beginning Android Port and Others

Hello, i wanted to learn more about developing android ROMs, Porting to other android versions, porting Firefox OS maybe. So i Bought a very cheap chinese tablet which cost $50, and i want to start meddling with it in some experiences.. i just needed some directions where to go..
First i wanted to know how to make a dump of my current android so i can restore it in case i need.
I already rooted the tablet, it is running android 4.0.4.
then i want to start trying to port it to Jelly Bean. i know i need some drivers but just getting a booting version will do for me. i looked at the Android AOSP about build instructions, but there was only instructions how to build for nexus devices, not an "generic build" i can build upon.
I looked at other site that gave me different instructions but i believe that they are for porting roms other than compiling from source.
Any light on this path is appreciated, thanks
There is no need to make such useless threads directly search xda and read and learn there are dozens of threads stating the tut.
Or directly go to chefs centrel
Rather than creating mess.
Hope u understand.

[Q] Coby Kyros MID1042 or a MID1042-8 Root Odin?

Hello XDA world,
I am no noob to the rooting world. I have spent 2 months now searching forums and other places o find and read all information I can on this Coby Kyros MID1042. It is an 8g built in memory so I am assuming it is the MID1042-8 until told other wise here. That is my first question. My second is nowhere I have looked has giving clear details or even were to look exactly were to look, like a link or anything. I have seen were you can flash CWM on it for that alien mod but I cant find how to put the CWM on it. Can you use odin or do i need other programs? Where can I go to find this out? I have been wrecking my brain to figure this out.
Can the root tactics for the other kyros be used interchangeably or what?
I have already flashed modded and sold many Samsung phones so I no noob to this and would appreciated not being treated as one fyi. I have learned everything I know about the process for the fokes here on XDA and have referred many people to research here before anything cause y'all are the most informative.
I am going nuts to figure this out so I can move onto another project.
Much Thanks,
Splork8609
