[Q] Screen locks while on wall charging - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a question for you techie types.
when i plug my phone into a wall charger, the screen stops workin. i have use the home, menu, search, button, but i have unable to do anything with the touch screen. I use my phone for my alarm clock and in the mornings i have to unplug my phone from the charger just to be able to shut my alarm off.
i am curious if anyone else has seen this, or knows how to fix it.

Happened to me with my cliq xt. Turns out the charger was harming my battery. Is your the OEM one or an after market one?

It is an aftermarket charger. I got tired of dragging the usb cable from place to place so I picked up a charger online.
This doesn't happen just using the usb cable on my pc

Some aftermarket chargers have this effect. Best to get another charger...

I talked to TMOUS support about this earlier today. Apparently it is something they are aware of and believe it will be fixed in the 2.2 Android.
Mine does not actually lock, it just is very slow to respond.

[Q] HELP! Atrix does not power on!

Ok so I was at work listening to music when my phone froze. Pulled the battery, which was only at about 85%, and tried to restart. And, nothing. No green light, no dual core screen. Tried four different chargers, including OEM Motorola charger, and tried hooking up to my home PC. Only thing that happens is when I hook up to the PC without the battery in the green light comes on. Power button still doesn't turn the phone on. Just turns off the light. I tried to search, but the closest I found was people stuck at the dual core screen or people who didn't realise their batteries were dead. If it helps, I'm unlocked, rooted, and running GingerMod 2.3.6. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
Sam issue
I am having the same issue with my wife's phone. We both have Atrixes and I have tried swapping batteries and her battery works fine in my phone. I still can't get it to start up. No green light when plugged into the charger but a solid green when plugged into usb on my PC. How did you end up solving your issue?
I got this problem once. To fix, pull battery out, plug in wall charger to phone (without battery), should boot to the battery with question mark icon, plug battery back in.
I work at a cell phone repair store , and from reading your symptoms I think you might have an issue with the flex cable running your LCD. In the atrix if you drop it there is a possibility of shaking the flex cable off your board, and its a matter of micro soldering or just connecting the cable. I DO NOT suggest doing it yourself. If you want it done professionally call my work. 6053350411

I solved this problem with wall charger
Will anyone here elaborate how to fix it again?
If I plug it in wall charger, no response and no light.
If I plug it in USB, green lights on without battery, no light with battery.
In any case, pressing the power button cannot power on the device.
Please help. Thanks.
Sounds to me like your battery is having issues. Maybe try getting a new battery?
Thanks for your quick reply. I have actually got a new battery already. Still the same behaviour.
Then I can only assume it's the phone. Perhaps the charging circuit. In any case, sorry but I have nothing to recommend. :dunno:
If the plugging it into the wall without a battery in it didnt work... then try waiting for the phone to boot (assuming that it still is and the LCD is disconnected) and swipe where the unlock button normally is, pressing volume up or down, or perhaps try ghosting to adb and run adb devices in the command line... or simply try calling it lol. Also a good piece of information to get... does the backlight come on? If you can prove that the phone is in fact running, then it is most likely the lcd cable as someone said...

Thanks for your advice. I didn't drop the phone before it went to "no-response" status. I just put it on a HD dock for charging and the next day it doesn't boot anymore. I have put in HD dock for charging for a few weeks already.
My phone doesn't boot at all. I don't see any backlight or any special response. Or It does something that I don't know. I tried to plug into USB after pressed the button. If it's on, the computer should detect a device, right?
Any ideas are welcomed, i will try all.

[Q] Vibrant wont turn on - will show charging screen

Hi,
My vibrant will not turn on when on battery (NOTHING appears on the screen when power button pressed). When plugged in, the charging screen appears and it appears to be charging, but if I press the power button, nothing happens. I have tried holding volume up and down and power button, but this does nothing whether its plugged in and charging or its on battery.
Before this happened it was restarting over and over when I was trying to charge it.
So in conclusion the only screen I can get is the battery charging screen, that is it. This entire time I have been testing the sim card and sd card have been removed.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Thanks
More info, did this happen after you flashed something? are you aquainted with Odin1.85, AIO toolbox is a great place to start. If I can help in any way i will.
This happened after normal use, it was actually after the battery died and I tried to charge it with a car charger, and then the phone just kept resetting over and over. It wouldnt get very far in the start up process. But I did not flash it. I am not familiar with any of that but I can give it a try.
Thanks

Have you tried a new battery? Sounds like your battery will not charge. Just for future reference, sometimes a car charger can damage your phone's battery, even completely kill it. When you press the gas pedal your car's battery charge fluctuates and can damage your phone that way, rare but it happens. Not to say that's the case here but it could also be a custom ROM. I was running a custom ROM called lithium volt and if the battery completely died the phone would not boot back up, even when plunged into a charger. Some roms a require certain amount of battery power to boot up.

Ok I used odin and I restored everything and my phone booted up like normal. But then while using the phone, I realize when I press the power button, it does nothing. It doesnt lock the phone, it doesnt shut down the phone, I get no response. So I think my problem before was simply the power button was not working. Has any one had this problem, can I fix it?

That's unfortunate, if you are comfortable soldering then you can just order a replacement button. Mobiletechvideos.com fixes that problem, they fix almost everything else too. Very trusted source so you can be sure to get what you paid for. If you can solder then buy a replacement part on ebay or you can go here http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-i9000-t959-t959v-power-button-repair/ and send your Vibrant t959 to mobile tech.

sgh-t959
i recently aquired a samsung vibrant sgh-t959. It had issue charging and i determined that it was the micro usb charge port. i messed with it a bit like i did before to get it to charge with no response as before but now when i try to turn the phone on it only shows the loading clocklike bars as if it were just plugged in to charge before it loads the charging bar when its turned off. any ideas on how to simply repair this at all? i know replacing the charge port would be one option but i have no idea on how to. maybe one of the contacts are touching another on the charge port?

[Q] Optimus G wont charge!

Hello,
So last night I was using my optimus g, the notification that my battery was too low came up, and the phone shut off. After that I went to charge my phone and the usual red light did not come up around the power button and the phone will not charge. There is no water damage or sudden incident that could have caused this to happen. AT&T will not replace the phone due to a small scratch on the front of the screen done a couple months ago. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get my phone to charge and turn on again??
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
have you tried to hold the power button down for like 10 seconds? try a different plug outlet and plug it in and see what happens
If you can't get it working then send it in to LG since AT&T won't help you.
Have you tried a different charger? Tried usb charging? Somewhere in this forum are instructions for removing the back case and battery. Two others had similar problems and removing the battery helped.

Yeah, I tried a lot of different chargers, USB charging and different outlets. I will have to try to remove the battery i guess. AT&T told me that I could not have LG repair it because it has a small crack in the bottom left that I made a couple months prior to this happening. Do you know how to get to the thread about removing the battery? I cant seem to find it =/
Anyone have any other ideas?
Here's the thread for accessing the battery btw.

If that doesn't do the trick then replacing the damaged portion of the phone and then claiming warranty would probably work, especially since it's already bricked and you don't have to worry too hard about it not turning on again after you reassemble it because again, it's already bricked probably a whole lot cheaper than buying a new one off contract.

The only problem is that the crack is on the front class screen, and I have heard that the screen is hard to replace
Before you open it up and go fiddling around on the inside, try these (in order):
1. Hold down your power button for at least 15 seconds.
2. Plug in your charger
3. (If that doesn't work) Use a different outlet/adapter.
4. If all else fails, try the 15 second power button thing and then connect it to your computer.
My Nook Tablet's display wouldn't work once and it took me the better part of a week to figure out that holding the power button down for 10+ seconds manually turns it off (I was a noob). (I then plugged it into my computer instead of the charger and it powered on!) A lot of people forget to try the simple things first...

Ok, let me rephrase that. A new one is $450. You can get a screen/digitizer for ~$85. I'm not a math whiz but to me the difficulty is worth saving that much cash.
download mode
it could be a software problem try going into download mode (holding vol down and power then plugging it in at the same time) it may take a couple trys but if you can get into that then it could possibly be a software issue maybe its a prob with bootloader if it is try useing some teenybins somthing similar happened to me i unlocked the bootloader and everthing got better post back if you can get into download mode
I too have started having problems charging this phone when it goes all the way down which it does fast usually listing android operating system or my screen as the main culprit....try booting to bl then recovery and clearing cache and dalvic....I use twrp recovery and there no battery stat wipe function but in rom toolbox pro there is although the merits of such is questionable.....I also used a battery calibration app recently and it seemed to help... I've also had to plug it up and just leave it for a while whether it's convenient or not it works....???
I've wondered about awesome kernel cleaning script... As well as some of the battery saving apps in conjunction with Eco mode and power saver function.... I've used juice defender ultimate for a while and recently battery guru from Qualcomm and Antutu but same crash today leaving phone down 2 hours plus easily not to mention getting stuck in power save popup warning viscious cycle of popping up every keystroke is gonna get this device slammed up against a wall and I don't want to replace it but any help on this also appreciated....

USB Cable
Have you tried another USB cable? :silly: I stopped using USB cords ever since my grandpa got a wireless charger (yes, my grandpa ) but you better be careful with those since not all of them are compatible with LG phones, check the reviews and device compatibility, mine is a Powermat 3X
im having the same problems too... using the latest cyanagen mod... the battery just doesnt hold the charges like it says and shuts off.. i need this phone as an alarm......

My phone was charging while I was sleeping, and I accidentaly putted my hand on my phone while I was sleeping, and the phone was seriusly hot! I got up, upluged the phone from the charger, let it cooldown, plug it in on another charger, the phone responded in the first place, but the red flashing light was coming up really quickly. I switched it of and on and now it is showing me the battery that is shown when the device is charging. Been doing this charge for like an hour or more, with varius attempts to switch it on but it still it wont switch on! Any tips or anything? I am going to leave it charging for a coupe of hours and see if I have any results...
My phone started having issues where it would randomly shut off and sometimes holding power for approx 20 seconds or so would turn it back on or other button combinations sometimes requiring me to force download mode. I have always been able to force it back on however previously when plugged into a charger the notification light wouldn't do anything.
It shut off yesterday and I have tried every combination of buttons for at least 30 seconds, including trying to force download mode with volume up and down and USB into computer and nothing. The difference this time every time I plug it in the notification light either is solid or pulsing rapidly and will not turn on or go to download mode.
Phone is rooted running paulicats aosp and has been since I got the phone 3 months ago, it was dropped in water the week I got the phone but was disassembled and cleaned that day with no issues until this last week.
Any help or input is greatly appreciated

I got it to turn on everything is working. so far its user error not hardware error. mess around and look at what I can do with this thing like rooting it. maybe installing a different rom. I don;t know if its possible if anyone knows of any good posts to help me get on my way it would be great. only smart phones I had so far was the motorola droid x and htc evo lte. I don;t know the process of the samsung phones.

I dont see why you need a speci chareger... most chargers are created equal. It takes like 5 hrs to fully charge... the phone screen must indicate the charging status.
you could have turned your phone on instantly while it is on charge

[Q] magnetic charger port and blinking orange led :(

so i had a not so nice scare last night. :crying:
TLDR:
when i attach magnetic charger, i now get blinking orange light and i get the charging (lightning) icon in top status bar also blinking also showing up and then disappearing.
I can apparently charge my phone via micro usb port directly but this morning phone alarm didn't go off and i couldn't get the phone to wake without powering off via red button and powering on again.
- How bad is this? (i.e. is it corrupt software? is hardware borked?)
- What can i do to determine cause (is there any kind of log file i can look at? etc)
I've been using a knock off magnetic charger adapter (one end is micro usb female, other end is magnetic charger port for Z2) since end august. pretty much every night i use this thing to charge my phone.
here is the item on ebay
Last night, as i was about to sleep, i connected my knock off magnetic charger thingy to my phone. i think i may have connected it upside down but then i fixed it.
I then left it for a bit then came back to check something on my phone and could not get the thing to wake up.
i tried to use the power button to wake phone to no avail.
I remove the magnetic charger clip thing and tried to power off phone using red button next to sim tray. no dice.
I tried plugging power into the micro usb directly and got a red light. At this point i start freaking out.
I start hunting through XDA and all signs point to potential soft brick.
So I try putting my phone into flashmode. I tried a bunch of things as recommended and somehow got my phone to wake again, but it got stuck in a boot loop at sony logo.
I use the red button to power off the device, wait for a bit and then power it back on.
luckily it boots into ROM and my phone looks as it should. I attempt magnetic charger but I get blinking orange led and the charging (lightning) icon in top status bar also blinking. I decide to try pluging the microusb directly into port on phone and it appears to be charging.
I decide to go to sleep.
In the morning my phone alarm didn't go off and i couldn't get the phone to wake without powering off via red button and powering on again.
All day today the phone was fine, but going to sleep now i'm going to charge direct via microusb and wondering what its going to be like in the morn.
- How bad is this? (i.e. is it corrupt software? is hardware borked?)
- What can i do to determine cause (is there any kind of log file i can look at? etc)
- any other recommendations?
thanks in advance
If the device powers off due to the charger then stop using it because it will damage your device and void your warrenty
Unbrick tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53220435
@envious: yea thats the thing. I'm not using the magnetic charger anymore.
i'm plugging into micro usb port.
this morning it was still normal at 8:15 (could wake it, unlock all things good, battery fully charged).
I have an alarm that goes off at 8:25.
I went back to sleep.
alarm did not go off. I woke up at 9 and my fone could not be woken. it was not off because if i hit power button it would vibrate, but i had to hard power off with red button and turn on again for it to be normal.
anybody seen this behaviour before?
well jsut a quick follow up. i uninstalled my alarm app and reinstalled it and now i no longer have any issue when charging via usb port.
still don't know if magnetic charger is completely eff-ed tho.
