Hi everyone, I really need some help configuring 3G on my u20i. The thing is I bought it online and I live in Colombia (south america) and even with the APN correctly configured the phone only uses EDGE.
My mobile provider requires UMTS-HSDPA 850 and according to the official website of SE the u20i's hardware allows that kind of network (google it, I couldn't post the link 'cause I'm a new member)
The FW of my x10 mini pro is associated with some Chinese carrier. I'm not completely sure, but with the last SO update it installed a bunch of apps in Chinese and according to the build.prop file on my device the ro.product.name is U20i_1237-6040.
When I go to the mobile settings on my device and select "Network Mode" I only get GSM and WCDMA.
I'm guessing that the fault to connect to 3G is due to configuration on the FW by the carrier. Any ideas about this? does anyone have a similar problem?
Thank you all for your help!!
Think you'll find the u20i is 900MHz/2100MHz and the u20a is 850/1900/2100MHz, cross flashing u20a firmware to a u20i doesn't enable 850/1900MHz support.
You seem to be right... I just made a deeper search than the one I did when I bought it. The U20i doesn't support the HSDPA 850... that's just sad. My mistake. Thank you very much for the answer.
Switch over to Movistar. They are operating in the correct frequency range or sell your phone to someone who uses Movistar.

First I did the Nordic Firmware 2.1 and only got edge. So I loaded up the brazilian hoping it was a E20i/E20a issue but still only get edge to show up. Ive filled in the right apn settings which is the only way i could get data enabled at all but still nothing. Is this maybe because Rogers has no E20a firmware at all since they dont sell the Mini Pro only the Mini. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. By the way I swapped my full sized x10 for the mini pro and am loving it. SO much faster in all ways. I just need my 3g!!! by the way the guy i got it from said he got it in Dubai if that makes a difference
If it's a u20i then you wont have support for Rogers 850MHz 3G network, no matter what firmware you load.
I figured that out from reading the boards. Was confused at first cause the x10i works fine on Rogers with the full sized x10 when I had it. So I put the Brazilian firmware on the mini pro which is e20a and still no luck. I wonder if I called rogers could they help me?
you need to change your build.prop to the brazilian build.prop number and change the model to e10a instead of e10i.
Then you go into SEUS and restore and it will give you 3G
exactly what i did for my mini from rogers

We're talking about an U20a X10 mini Pro that I have. Sorry if my last post confused you. I wrote e20a by accident. I am running Brazilian firmware U20a on a mini pro. Hope someone can help me
You sure you have a U20a and not a U20i based on the reference to Dubai?
If it's a U20a it will never work on 3G. I have a U20i I'm using on Rogers (no 3G of course). It was a 3 UK phone, debranded and up'd to 2.1.
It was a u20i. The guy said he got it dubai but when i checked for updates it loaded some version of an asian software to 2.1. Thats when I decided to flash my own firmware and assumed that the Brazilian U20a 2.1 would provide 3g access but nope. Im pretty sure Im stuck on Edge until and if Rogers ever offers the Mini Pro to their customers. Then I can flash their ROM(from here hopefully) and it should work. I think it has something to do with the U20a firmware not being recognized by Rogers servers. I could be way off though. I say this because on the full sized x10 any firmware worked and allowed 3g access. Rogers is lame in too many ways.
If it is U20i it will NEVER work on ROGERS 3G. The hardware simply isn't there.
Right now I have u20a Brazilian and its not working on 3g. This is confusing me. the U20a is just a firmware thing isn't it. Nothing to do with the hardware correct?
It's a hardware thing, the u20i doesn't have 850MHz 3G support (the 3G radio hardware is 900/2100MHz vs u20a which is 850/1800/2100MHz), you can change firmware all you like, it wont make a difference.
Hello,
A month ago I bought an X10i mini from a private local dealer, and after a while I discovered that my provider (Pelephone in Israel) is using the American frequencies (HSPA 850 and 2100) while the other 2 local providers (Cellcom and Orange) are using European frequencies (UMTS 900 and HSPA 2100).
This means that the suitable model for me is X10a and not X10i.
Today I can use the phone (upgraded to latest 2.1 release with SEUS and then root-ed it with SuperOneClick), but I have many reception difficulties for indoor use because only the 2100 frequency is working with my phone and not also the 850, which gives better backup reception inside buildings and in challenging topographic areas.
I tried the special code trick mentioned here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10645063&postcount=16
I did get a special menu but without the Radio Selection option.
Are the X10i mini and X10a mini hardware different, or is it only a matter of ROM changing/debranding? Maybe there is another special code for changing the frequencies?
I need to know if I have to do a physical trade of my X10i mini with X10a mini, or can I just enable the American frequencies in my X10i mini.
Thanks!
wrong forum.... try the x10 mini forum
Sorry about that. Will post another thread in the correct one.
Dont work on my phone whit ROM 435

Hello,
Posting again after writing in the wrong forum (X10 instead of X10 mini). Sorry about that.

Maybe just need to flash a e10a rom to get it.
I have an e10a, and when i flashed a e10i rom i lost 3g... so i reflashed to e10a rom and it worked again.
Try changing your build.prop to this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=529948&d=1298930134 , reboot and upgrade/repair via SEUS.
I hope it works!
PD: Sorry about my english
Thanks. That might be a good idea.
Anyone here did the same - had X10i and flashed it to X10a?
Did it help with the frequencies issue?

There was someone from Colombia who did just that. Won´t help you.
Hey guys. I just recently updated my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 for use with T-Mobile 3G Data. I originally bought my X10 locked to AT&T but I had the phone software unlocked for like $50 bucks to use it with T-Mobile. Can anyone help me out? I popped my sim card in my brother's G2X and it connected to the T-Mobile 4G tower just fine but it won't connect to the 3G towers at all on my X10. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Do a Google search for apn of tmobile.
Edit: also you have a phone that is on the wrong frequencies. Tmobile uses 1700, at&t Uses 850/something else.

I entered the proper APN settings and it's still not working. Since it was the AT&T Xperia X10, could that be the reason why it's not working registering on the T-Mobile 3G towers?
Go to Settings/Wireless & Networks/Mobile Networks/Preferred Network mode/Click GSM/WCDMA preferred. Then go to Network Operators/Wait to connect if not go to Search mode/Select Automatically/Search Networks. It should connect to three networks
(house icon) 3g an be Checked/(house icon) 2g DR/ (no icon) 2g that's your sms/mms.
Although you may only have two Networks (icons) with the primary one checked or you well be roaming. Also X10a an X10i have differences in bands so you may have to change your Firmware/Baseband/Rom.
Also you can check your friends Access Point Names and try that.
Settings/Wireless & Networks/Mobile Networks/Access Point Name/Menu/Add APN.
And put in the Exact settings/Menu/Save/Reboot Phone.
You may have to what a few to connect a minute or two.
I'm bummed out, no matter what I do, my phone simply won't connect to the T-Mobile 3G towers in my area. Since this was the AT&T Xperia X10, it doesn't support the same 3G bands as T-Mobile's. Could I be wrong? I've tried everything. I flashed the stock 2.1 rom on it and it still couldn't read. It kept registering me on T-Mobile 2G with E on the status bar. Are there actual Sony Ericsson Xperia X10s that support T-Mobile 3G US?
There are 3 different types of x10's;
the x10i, x10a, and that Japanese one (s0-01b?).
They all use different frequencies (can't recall them off the top of my head).
Afaik, AT&T uses x10a's because they work with the frequencies that at&t broadcast 3g on. T-Mobile uses x10i's because they work on the frequencies that T-Mobile broadcast 3g on. Because you got the x10 from at&t, its very likely that you have an x10a, which will not work with T-Mobile.
Flashing roms, kernels, basebands, whatever CAN NOT change this. The frequencies are set in the actual chip on the motherboard. The only way to change this is to buy an x10i unfortunately.

Hi i need a help,i have just bought on ebay Sony Ericsson's x10a which is coded on at&t.I was so happy until i read out that x10a cant work 3g in Europe. So please tell me is that true ?I just want confirmation.I will decode it and debrande it with wotanservers if i could. Thanks for help
don't know it exactly
but i think which you need is X10i,not X10a
It depends on the frequency that your carrier runs on. If your carrier uses on frequency 850/1900/2100 then X10a will work in your area but if your carrier uses another frequency other then that , then it won't work. Even if you debrand you cannot change the phones set of frequency.
As i see my carrier T mobile hr(Croatian HT) uses 1900 UMTS but somehow i am skeptical will it work!
My phone has arrived AT&T was unlocked and now x10a for Americans works in Croatia with 3G UMTS on Croatian T mobile HR i was lucky!Very happy!
