With Use "2G Only" checked I get NO data. I've been googling and testing for 4 hours.
When I uncheck "2G Only" it switches to 3g and I get data. If the 3g signal is bad it will switch to E and I will get data and if I move near the window and the signal gets better it will switch back to H. So I know Edge works fine and is in this area.
At the same location, if I check 2G Only, I get no data. Voice is fine.
I went into *#*#4636 Info and when GSM Only is selected, I press Menu, and it shows Enable Data connection but when I select it, it does nothing. The menu disappears but it acts like nothing happened.
When I boot Windows Mobile 6.5 Edge and 3G work fine.
I have to get 2G only working because the 3g is random in my condo.
FYI, I can't get MMS sending to work either. I tried port 8080, I tried with username and without, with and without passwords, with APN type and without too.
I've had the same problem on builds that have a 3g only choice (wcdma). When selecting, I get no signal, otherwise it was fine. I wonder what that is messing with.

I have the same issue too
What network are you on? TMobile I assume since you talk about Edge and GSM.
Edge is 2.75G in essence. TMobile does not have a distinct 2G signal, at least not that I am aware of. It goes G (no data), E (Edge 2.75G), 3G, and H.
So by choosing 2G only, you eliminate even E...therefore no Data.
J
I'm on AT&T with a Telstra phone that has 850Mhz data.
If 2.75G is Edge and HAS data, how do I select it from the *#*#4636 or from some other menu?
On Windows Mobile 6.5, when I select GSM only I still get EDGE for data. So I can have a reliable voice call and when I'm not talking I can have Edge data.

In Settings->Wireless Networks->Mobile Networks,
I have "Data Roaming" unchecked.
I'm in an area when my weak-signal 2G connection on T-mobile frequently drops out and restores. Every time it restores, a popup graciously informs me: "Attention! Data Roaming will incur extra charges. Disable Data Roaming?" I must click yes to dismiss the window.
I don't get what part of the setting (Data Roaming: UNCHECKED) the OS doesn't understand!
Am I missing something or is there a special way to really disable data roaming or get rid of the popups?
thanks!
phone: vibrant JI6
Does it still show that it is connected to data when it is roaming?

I sometimes see the Edge symbol in the top row. I just figured out that a couple of other carriers are sometimes weakly picked up at my location. I have a pay-as-you-go tmo sim in the phone (unlocked). I thought data roaming was not a possibility anyhow (I'm a noob at this). I only want to use 2G for phone, and wireless for data.
What I'm really hoping for is to NOT be asked to disable data roaming, since I made that setting.

Well here is a better option. Go into Settings>> Wireless and Network >> Mobile Networks >> Access Point Names >> Click on Menu & select New APN and create Dummy one. Then before selecting the back button make sure there the radio button for the dummy APN is selected. This should prevent you from connecting to Tmobile Data Services.

Thanks. That seemed to have worked, in that I don't get the roaming popups anymore. It seems that it may prevent me from roaming on 2G as well, but I'm not sure - I'm trying to figure this out whilst in cellphone hinterlands (in the San Juan Islands where the locals hate cell towers). Now I'm getting a string of popups requesting that I automatically search for providers, even though I've set it to manually select tmo. What I'm hoping for is just tmo 2G for phonecalls and SMS, with no guff from the phone about it. My Razr does that just fine.
Tomorrow, I'll drive off to a more cell-friendly area and make a better determination.
Appreciate the help!

I am glad it worked. Just set your phone to select automatically and you should be ok. Since you changed your APN, it will not connect to internet anymore using 3G. I know this coz, I used this while in Toronto last month.
In settings, about phone, status what does it say for you guys on three uk under mobile network type.
Mine would say HSPDA regardless of being on 3g or H, now though it constantly displays UMTS
Is that normal? Is it because I've flashed a custom rom?
And also I've noticed my data connection changes often from 3g to H.
Lastly in network mode do you guys have it on auto or WCDMA only.
Thanks
Well it will switch to 3g(umts) when there isn't anybdata being sent/received. When you need data it switches to h(hspa) so you get the fastest speeds.
This is to save battery life, so when you check in settings your probably not pulling data.
Try downloading something then looking.
Sent from Samsung Galaxy S2 on TELUS.
Thanks for the helpful reply.
Another thing though, would it benefit me switching to wcdma only instead of auto,?
Hey everyone. I just picked up a Verizon LG G3 over the weekend and I am using it on Cricket Wireless (ATT). And everything works great, I have the APNs set up correctly. The only issue I seem to have is that I will be connected to LTE on ATTs network, and when I either receive or make a call it will disconnect from LTE and will connect to global (my guess since it will show a G where it would normally show "4G LTE" or "H". And once I disconnect from the call it connects to the internet again but only to HSPA+ and not back to LTE even though I know for a fact I am still in a LTE supported area. In know this because the only way I seem to be able to connect to LTE is to turn off mobile data and turn it back on. My question is, does anyone have this problem on the Verizon LG G3 while using it on Verizon's network or with ATT/T-mobile?
From what I know the phone should automatically connect to LTE again after the call, not HSPA. Thanks.
Not sure if this is what you want, but perhaps try System Settings, and under Wireless Networks select More, then Mobile Networks.
In Mobile Networks, try System Select. Press "Network Mode" and try adjusting to one of the other options. I'm strictly Verizon, so I changed mine from Global to LTE/CDMA.
Worst case, you don't get connectivity, you can go back and change it again.
HTH!

Thanks Ill try messing with that wen i get home, left my phone there. I have it under global right now.
Just doesn't make sense to me, why would it not connect automatically to LTE after a call. S
Hi All,
I just got the international Z5c, model E5823, which supports both tmo us LTE bands in my area (bands 1 and 12). When I have preferred network type set to 3G, I get more bars and have data connectivity. When I switch it to 4G, the bars go down to 1 or 2, and I get no data.
I did a logcat while switching from 3G to 4G and noticed that while switching, the icon switches between H+ and H, then eventually drops out. I'm still trying to see if there is anything useful in the logcat, but the one thing I noticed that seemed interesting was
Code:
D/StatusBar.NetworkController( 2598): updateIconSet, voice network type is: 13/LTE, data network type is: 13/LTE
To me, this looks like I might be seeing issues with some failed attempt to use voice over lte (as this phone supports it).
Regardless, does anyone know how I can disable voice over LTE? There was an option in the phone menu on the Z3 supposedly that would let you toggle, but I don't see it anywhere on this.
I'm going to be cross posting this in the sony forums as well, so if I hear back I'll post here.
Fixed it. I turned it onto 3g and selected "Internet settings" from the networking menu, which seems to have downloaded some configuration stuff from my carrier. After switching back to 4g I have fully working data.
My Moto E always seem to prefer using 2G even if I have selected 3G as prefered. It is very annoying as I want to use data over 3G but can never switch to 3G.
On my Samsung Tab 2, my ROM gives me option to explicitly use 3G network(not prefered) but there I have another annoyance that it prefers UMTS or HSPA. Unfortunately, my area only serves data on HSPAP. How to latch on H+ only?
I tried going to the *#*#301279#*#* menu and clicked on HSDPA only. But nothing happens still on EDGE/UTMS in both cases.
