[Q]parmanet android on hd2 - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there a way to permanently have android on the hd2? i mean without having to run clrcad, then haret on froyo 2.2? like is there a way to remove winmo altogether? im just tired of having to reboot to android everytime i change battery all the time.

you are tired of having to reboot and the community is tired of seeing the same questions.
to answer, let's just say that android is never ever ever going to be permanent. if it is ever permanent, you'll have to read about it

To your question yes I believe so but it's a work in progress. For other members that have an issue answering a simple question more than once, why reply in the first place? Unlike bravo who apparently have all day to read every page and post that go well over 200 pages. The time it took to write your little spiel you could of answered the question!

There is currently no permanent way to flash android to our HD2s. It is in development. Right now we have builds of android that can be launched using HaRET from our SD cards. No one except the people working directly on the NAND project know when it will be completed. I wouldn't recommend asking when it will be done. Trust me, once it has been released you will know. It wont be possible to miss it.
While not always the easiest way to get answers, using the "search" function is the BEST way to get them. You will learn a lot more than just what you were asking, and expand your knowledge base to help make you more profficient with your own device. If you have done a couple searches and can't find what you're looking for, then ask. I would include though that you have tried searching and didn't have any luck. That should keep flaming to a minimum. Most people here just want to know that you tried.
Best of luck with your phone and welcome to the world if LEO.

Oh and I have tired to search and nothing about permanently removal of windows mobile or full android flashing guide.

Head over to the android development general forum. Look for a thread titled "NAND Discussion..." 900+ pages off goodness on the topic.
You wont find a how-to thread yet as its not available to the public.

[Q] Downgrade from froyo

i have installed a Froyo rom on my vibrant and i was wondering how i go back to stock?
It never ceases to amaze me that people don't have a crystal clear understanding of what they are doing before they go flashing custom ROMS. Why would you even think about putting on a specific ROM unless you knew how to revert back if it dorked up?

WOW!! I'm not going to roast you but come on man. Did you read the OP of the froyo thread? Then you wait till after you flash to worry about how to get back???
I'm going to assume by your post that you didn't do a nandroid so it looks like your only option is to ODIN back to stock. Just search it.

We help those who first help themselves. 30 seconds in the development forum would get him the answers he needs. Posting a request for help without first attempting to find an answer on your own is extremely lazy. They're just asking the regulars to do all the heavy lifting for them. "Yeah, I flashed a ROM after doing almost no research and I don't like it. It looks like there's 27 different posts with step by step instructions on how to reverse it, but it's so much easier to just start a 28th post and ask for help. Also, could one of y'all take a plane flight to my hovel in Bangkok where I live and work Odin for me? I'll be in the tub eating takeout food. When you're done, it'd be great if you could come on up the stairs and feed me, and perhaps do something with these curtains?"
The reason you have trouble finding useful information is because your search results get clogged up with people starting threads asking questions answered in other threads. Sometimes in threads on the same page as the one their making. Sometimes with titles that are nearly identical to theirs. These people get flamed because they're part of the problem, not the solution, and after the 9,000th time you see a new thread titled "Kies broke my phone" or "How do I get into recovery?" or "What bootloader do I need for CM7?", you start to get a little batty.

[Q] help with rom

I have a rooted fascinate but cant seem to be able to get a rom. I am a complete dumbass who shouldnt be jacking with my phone but am sick of the bloatware and freezes. When i go to clockwork mod the color is blue with white. i am challenged so please be very specific thanks
You really need to start reading. There is plenty of information here in the forums, but if you try to get it spoon-fed, you'll end up frustrated because you don't really understand what you did.
Start here, go slowly, and follow directions. If you have specific questions, post them here (in Q&A).
I find it helpful to read ALL of the posts in a particular ROMs thread because even if I don't have a particular issue now, I might in the future. (Plus, if you come in asking questions that were just answered two pages ago - and every two pages before that - it just frustrates the people you are looking for help from.)

sorry i posted the way i did. I was very frustrated, i rooted my phone at a friends house and had no problems, when i got home and tried to get a rom it just doesnt seem to work on my computer. Sorry for posting the way i did. Thanks
No worries ... but really it is best if you dig in. As long as you follow directions carefully, things should go smoothly, and the more you do it, the more it makes sense. Perhaps you could post some details about what you've tried and where it has failed.
I found the search function here doesn't work that well. What works best for me is doing a google search. Usually it pulls up the xda thread I was looking for. Thats how I learned.

Are you tired of the same questions? Vent here.....

There will be no fighting with anyone in this forum, its only to vent your anger here. I will start.
I try to help people by reading through the forum but everyday real problems are over shadowed by people asking what is the best way to root their thunderbolt....every day that shortly followed by how much they searched for this subject when if you simply search on Google Thunderbolt+root method you will find you answer, if you can't find Google, do a Bing search on it or askjoe.com
Second why are all these new guys over clocking to 1.9 and expect their phone to be stable? Don't they read the forum of the kernel they flashed? Or just rush to general or q&a and post freezing problems. People you will get very good support if you post in the kernel you use or Rom your kernel came with the developers keep their eyes on that thread.
When did thunderbolt general become Verizon support if you have a network drop, don't make a thread for each city it is down in, call Verizon don't think every issue has to do with a radio or your kernel or your Rom.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button

"How do I install this? (install directions mentioned in the OP)"
"This alpha/beta/testing software sure is buggy / why is feature x broken in this? (broken issue mentioned in the OP for said software) (followed by vague description/no description of what is broken without a logcat by user asking question)"
"What's the best ROM / Rooting Method?"
"Help! I installed a non-root user RUU on top of my rooted phone"
"When will we get x / what is the eta for x?" (x = gingerbread|ics|next phone|new rom|etc)
Asking a question already answered in the stickied common questions / noob guide in the Q/A forum.
Go look at the PRL thread in the Incredible General forum. I get reamed out and called every name in the book.... But I was the only one that produced an answer! I'm about to the point of letting these idiots twist in the wind. I'm tired of fools that can't find the answers that are basically fed to them. And if a mod has a problem with that frustration, oh well... Do the right thing and ban stupid, not me.
I like when someone throws an off topic question in a thread and others bite. Then if you are interested in the original topic you have to filter through all the garbage to see if any progress or good information was actually posted.

or asking about how to fix an issue that was asked just 2-3 pages back when it really shouldn't be asked in the topic thread at all (post it separately in q/a). This is why developers don't reply to their threads much. They just get to be a mess and they give up.

The thought "help those who help themselves" always comes to mind when I see those posts !
Ya my other favorite one is when they ask which rom is the best.
I feel like asking them, so if I tell you to jump off a bridge will you do it?
If not, they why would you take what I say as the best rom as the gospel?
Roms are such a subjective thing. Some people like some things some like others.
My first Android phone was a G1, so I was pretty used to the "stock" experience. Even when I rooted, I stuck pretty much with Cyanogen.
When I got the bolt and realized Cyanogen was not really "available", I got into BAMF and I gotta tell you, they did a pretty impressive job with sense.
Before I would have just laughed at someone if they said sense was the way to go, but I really kinda like it now. So I know that even my viewpoint has changed somewhat.
I don't understand why these people cannot just go out and make up their own mind about which rom they like by just flashing them and trying them out. If they don't like it, they just nandroid back to what you had before they flashed the new rom.
I wonder if they all look like lemmings? Hmmmm.
I get so tired of people running AOSP ROMs creating new topics and stating in just about every AOSP ROM thread that they can't get a lock on their GPS...
Drunk texted from my CM7 Bolt
[RANT]Agreed. Google is my best friend. If I don't know how to do something when I cook my Rom, Google. When I need to know something about linux, Google.
STOP ASKING WHAT THE BEST ROM! THERE ISN'T A BEST ROM!!

I really think more people should go out of their way to make stupid people feel and look stupid.
People who post a question then an hour or 2 later say "so no one wants to help". This isn't a chatroom, people don't just wait around on the boards all day to answer questions.

[Q] Advice not given

Okay. I posted my first ever question/request for advice the other day and, despite 79 views, I have had no response. Perhaps it was too dull for those who are more accomplished with all things Android and everybody assumed that somebody else would answer.
Perhaps within the morass of information on these forums the answers are already out there. Maybe, but who knows. In other forums people tend to at least say - look there for answers - and post a link to another thread. But, it has been Christmas and I guess we are all pretty busy this time of year - Merry Christmas to all by the way
So, I thought I would re-shape my question/needs here.
Could anybody give me, or at least point me in the direction of, a glossary of terms type of thing?
I need to know things like what does 'radio' mean? How does it relate to the 'flashing' process' , And any other terms which people take for granted as being blindingly obvious, but which may not be to those of us very inexperienced. This forum can be quite daunting, but still, enquiring minds wanna know
Any help, again, appreciated.

I would've loved to answer but perhaps you need to be more specific on what you want to be answered
you said you wanted to have 2.3.5 on ur DHD,but that doesn't tell anyone what you are asking for,if you are asking us to find a ROM for you,or how to flash a recovery first,or how to flash the ROM !
You should have to provide us more specific data, phone, model, rooted or stock, etc. It is normal that why you don't get replies.

HI, and thank you. Also apologies for my woolly question. And this is kind of my problem. When new to this even the questions I want answered are not always asked correctly. I was hoping to find a ROM for my Desire HD which has Sense 3.0. I have Gingerbread on the phone currently with Sense 2.1.
To be completely humble and honest, which I find to be the best way in almost all cases, I must say that I am not even sure what "how to flash a recovery" means, or "how to flash the ROM".
So, as you see, I am really new to this and feeling my way around. I am a quick learner though so I really just need bringing up to speed on a few of the basics and then I am sure I will be able to research my way around.
Anyway, thank you for your kind reply. I wasn't trying to be shirty with my post. I meant what I said - it is Christmas and I am sure people look in over the holidays but it is a busy time for everybody. I hope I have not caused offence.

Please read before you do anything at all. From your posts it is plain you are very new to Modding so it is very important you understand what your doing as it void your warrenty and if done wrong can brick your device. Start with the stickies in the DHD section and read those a couple of times. Then check the Q&A and read there as well.
As mentioned, read the stickies in your section, there should be a lot of information there. In my device's subfora, there are great stickies chocked full of information. If we had the same device, I'd post some links for you. There's also a glossary of sorts stickied in the Thunderbolt section. Not everything in it will apply to your device but it may help with some general terms.
Before I even rooted my device, I read all of the stickies and recommended links. I then read over the Q&A and general subfora just to get a feel for it. What I read didn't make a lot of sense at the time, but later I remembered it and it made more sense. I then rooted my device, then read and read and read before flashing my first rom (CM6 - it was a while back).
It's a process, and the more you read the more you'll understand, until eventually you can start answering some of the questions that go unanswered. Just give it time... and make sure that you know exactly what you're doing - and why - before you jump in to something.
Good luck!

Hi there Zendel.
Apologies for the lateness of this reply. Been a busy day. I wanted to say thanks for the advice and to also fill in a couple of blanks, if I may.
You are quite correct, I am very new to modding and my only fear is buggering it up, as we say in Lancashire lol. However, it has already been rooted by a friend who took me through the process over the phone some months ago.
When I first got the phone it was with Orange and had all that Orange junk and splash screen etc. Hence, my friend talked me through rooting and installing a standard factory ROM. It was a lot to take in and, at the time, I didn't make any notes along the way, which would have helped me now - hindsight is a wonderful thing, as they say.
More recently he pointed me at a link to a RUU (is that right?) so that I could upgrade from Froyo 2.2 to Gingerbread 2.3.3 with Sense 2.1 - so, in a nutshell, void warranty is no longer a concern
I have taken a look at some of the stickies, though I have not studied them intensely at this point. I will spend more time looking however and come back, perhaps, with more questions - or at least more relevant questions I should hope

This question get's asked every couple days at least. The answer is yes, it's on the dev's radar. However to enable it on the nook color they needed to use a little bit of info that was on the stock nook color source. (this info is unique to each device) As of yet nobody has managed to find it in the nook tablet sourcecode.
We like to see the search button used here rather then wade through endless posts of the same questions over and over again, so please, next time use the search button. Give it a try on this topic, and search in this forum for "bluetooth," then read what pops up.

I'll do better with that in the future, I thought that the systems auto search when you post a new thread would be sufficient. Lesson learned
Searching is great. But a FAQ section on NT wiki or on forums would also go a long way to reducing the oft repeated inquiries.

Yes, but i don't mean a yes/no checklist- rather a fuller discussion of the efforts and potential prospects -- which would address the repeated inquiries.

A Wiki is what the contributors make it. If you would like the Wiki to be something else, you have the power to expand it. Ultimately, however, with the wealth of information out there I hesitate to think that a Wiki would be any "cleaner" a solution for presenting such information. Look at how many threads are out there and how diverse the topics are.
A full "discussion" is more what I would think a forum is for.
That said, we have both a Wiki and a forum, and we all have the power to make it as we see fit. If you have a great idea, run with it.
