Hi
I need advise wich bluethoot set to use.
I will have a mono set, only on one side of head
Most important
1) works with X10 mini Pro, the person i talk to hear me, and i hear her
2) Fitting to ear, preferably not a thin plastic bow/clamp (ref HTC headset)
thats it. I fitting that let's me work with both hands on a building site.
I would like to get comment from people who have X10 and a working headset.
Thanks in advance!
Unfortunately X10 does not support bluetooth headsets.
I've tried 3-4 devices, all have weird noise and problems during calls..
I have spoken to Swisscom about it, they blame sony support and firmware, they offered me refund.
So far the only recommendation on this - give up on X10 with bluetooth, or get another phone.
I have a set of these, works great with my x10mini

I use Plantronics Explorer 210 with my x10 mini, no problems so far.
I use JB-TH710 and they work great with my x10 mini
Samsung WEP 200 working just fine here since Android 1.6.
o.k.. after having the MW600 for a few weeks now.. I have to say I love it!!
The battery seems to last ages!! I use it almost every day for at least a couple of hours for listening to Music when I am out and about, I also use it to stream Music from my Ubuntu laptop to my stereo (for hours at a time) and also skype calls from Ubuntu and I am amazed at how long the battery lasts. (at least 10 hours of Music.. perhaps more.. seems like I hardly ever have to charge it!!)
Call quality is great too..
pity about the song id and caller id not showing up with the X10mini but I don't really miss it too much. (and thats a fault of the phone not the headset)
I have also tried it with decent full Hifi headphones and it sounds really sweet.
My only real gripe is the volume control is a bit stupid (I tend to have my mini in my Jacket pocket and control the volume from there instead (its winter now so my hands are always in my jacket pocket anyway..) and with gloves on the phone control is the only way to go.
anyway Highly recomended if your in the market for a good stereo BT headset
Ive got plantonics 520 works great for me
Sent from my E10i using XDA App
I use Jabra BT3030 and as far as I can notice everything works just fine ...
I have not used a Mono BT headset with mine X10 Mini
But three BT Stereo headset.
Excel PSHC122 (Actually a noname that been branded by a chain)
Samsung SBH650 (Most probably designed with Samsung phones in mind)
I-tech S35 (Low cost)
All three works with the X10 Mini (and hence also with the Pro)
Just having problem with the Samsung one which Pause/play-button won't work with the XY-(video)player from Android Market.
All three does work flawless for phonecalls
I guess just look for BT mono/stereo headset that suits you and be sure it will work with your X10 Mini Pro

Hello, Is the song/caller id bug fixed in the latest version?
What do you mean with volume control is stupid? I cycle a lot and, I find it important that the volume control and next song is easy to reach..

Nope, SE can't seem to get their TrackID and Caller ID working in Android (Even with the latest firmware.. still nice to know when I get a real phone.. HTC, Samsung or Motorola I will get those features )
and what I mean about the volume control is that its a touch control.. not a physical button or knob.. so can't be operated through gloves but its o.k once you are used to it.
I do find if the controller is buried under a jacket the forward and back buttons can be pushed by accident (Its only really annoying if your listening to an audiobook and it accidently flicks you forward a chapter) , its just a matter of clipping it somewhere where it can't get bumped/crushed, I clip it onto the strap of my bag when I am cycling or walking
Still really happy with the battery life and the audio quality, and the fact I can use my big ass headphones to keep my ears warm in winter

Ok, I'm using the mw600 now. I'm pretty content with it. It's easy to use, no more hassle with the cords. I clip it to my t-shirt or shirt. Still no track/caller display. A pity, but honest, I would not look to it anyway.
One small, but difficult thing.. Sometimes, when on a long trip, I would like to make voice recordings. Would it be possible, say, with an android application that notices when I press the call button on the mw600, and then starts recording. Possible saving date/hour/location too?
I tried searching for "android recording bleutooth", and while some apps support the recording using a bleutooth headset, one still has to use the gsm to start and stop recording. It would be important not to have to take gsm, it should be safely in the backpack.
Cool idea..
Not sure how you would go about disabling the voice dial (or hijacking it) I am sure a good DEV would be able to figure something out.. (it would work for normal wired headsets too.. if they could figure out a way to do it.. so would be quite a popular app)

which bluetooth headset can work with all sounds? GPS, Music, calls?
Xperia X10 doesnt support Bluetooth headset?

is that a question, i really like to know i'm about to buy one
if the caller id doesn't work then don't have sense buy it
MW 600
I also use the SE MW600. I can confirm that it's a really nice piece of electronics. I'm using it with Winamp for Android, too. This third-party-app reacts to the MW-600's buttons, but only if you enable that in Winamp's settings.
Last week, I had to buy a new MW-600. I had to realize that it does not like too much water
There is another thing I like with this phone: You can exchange the earphones. I specially got a pair with clamps over the ears, so that they won't fall off when jogging.
---------- Post added at 03:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:30 PM ----------
I can confirm, that the MW-600 shows the phone number of the caller (but not his name).
I can also confirm, that Mini Pro does not have a suitable implementation of the AVRCP bluetooth profile. TrackID needs version 1.3 and our Mini Pro has 1.0 (as far as I know).
Since someone shortly submitted a fix for this in the cyanogen team, I'm hoping that the custom ROMs based on Cyanogen will shortly bring me TrackID.
does anyone know any that support caller ID?

I know many of you already use your Moguls for everything including GPS and MP3's but I wanted to share my in car setup. I'm using the Seidio charging stereo audio out car kit which swivels from portrait to landscape orientation. This is specially designed for the Mogul and allows the keyboard to be used as you can see from the photos. I have the audio out from the cradle running into my car's aux audio input for great sound quality from mp3/wma's and the gps audio. I use bluetooth when using the phone which pauses/resumes the music. I use TTN6, Live Search and Google Maps with the dcd2.1 rom with GPS and revA enabled. The whole package just works awesome!! I am so pleased compared to having a separate BT GPS receiver with my Treo 600wx. It also works great for the occasional ORB streamed TV show or movie while in traffic Here are some pics. Looks great at night too!!

Hello fellow BMW driver. I've got my Seidio dock on order for my '98 540 6-spd.
Hey SR - Glad to find someone who has actually purchased this dock.
I saw it on their site and it did look to be the most feature packed mount.
Two Questions...
1 - How good are the mounting options? (suction cup, vent clips etc...)
2 - How exactly (what type of port) does the external DC Power outlet work? (is it a USB plug? standard DC Car tube or simply a pigtail with USB Mini on it?)
Sorry I know those questions aren't exactly on topic with the thread title but your the only one I know who actually has the seido...
It was a bit pricey but I'm willing to pay for good stuff.
I have a similar setup, but I made my own car mount that does charging and audio. I can't open the KB though. I made it because the seidio was too big, bulky, expensive and overkill, and there were no other mounts that did charging and audio. See here:
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/703685-post18.html
What mp3 player do you use? Pocket player is awesome. I sync with my library on my computer to my 8gb microSD with WMP11 then use PocketPlayer on my mogul. The library browser is very nice. It has a touch scroll interface. I can't wait to show off to someone with an ipod touch.
Asphyx, the mounting options are basically suction cup flexible arm or air vent clips. I use the air vent clips and they work fine. They can be a bit difficult to remove once locked though. I find it vibrates and bounces around less than the suction cup arm route. The external DC power outlet has a DC tube type jack and it comes with a cigarette lighter power cable. You can also get one that wires directly into your car's power block if you want. The thing works very well. To me it seems a bit overpriced but is the only adapter I have found that will do what it does. It is very stable, holds the device well and it's easy to insert and remove the Mogul. Sound quality is great through my aux audio input and love having the keyboard open as it makes navigating WMP, Tom Tom and other software effortless.
Thanks Shadow...
I know it does seem expensive but it is the first one I have ever seen that will do landscape and not use the padded pincers (which press buttons you don't want pressed) to hold the unit in place...
I think I'll bite the bullet and get it.
Thanks for the review!
One additional note, I opened mine up(yes, this voids the warranty) and unplugged the internal speaker. I never use that anyway and I was getting some low level buzzing from the speaker even with the volume control on the cradle turned all the way down. Maybe interference from the Mogul's radio? Not sure. Anyway, that worked fine as there is a small connector inside the unit to easily disconnect the speaker(although I am not advocating doing this). Also, sometimes the wifi button gets turned on when you slide the mogul into the cradle. not a huge issue but FYI.
Thanks Again SR...
So the buzz is just on the internal speaker not the audio out you ran to the Car system?
correct, it was coming from the internal speaker I think related to some interference with the phone's wifi or cellular radio but went away after I disconnected the speaker.
What software are you using to get the music to pause when a call comes in? Mine keeps playing, but you can't hear it until I hang up the phone. I use bluetooth and GSPlayer for my mp3 player.
Dan
damcis, GSPlayer is not phone-aware software. Meaning, it will keep on chugging away at your mp3's regardless of the phone calls coming in.
In order to do the automatic-pause-resume thing, you have to use something like the built in Windows Media Player or HTC Audio Manager. Both of those are aware of the phone part of your device, whereas your average software is not.
Now, as far as this in-dash setup... it looks pretty sweet. But I went a simpler and more future-proof method.
I ripped out my Nissan factory stereo and installed a Sony BT2500 bluetooth head unit. It supports A2DP, so absolutely no cables or anything are required. Basically, get in the car, press play, and whatever playlist happens to be open in your device will immediately start coming out of the car's speakers.
The quality is surprisingly good, and you don't even need to take your phone out of your pocket!!! (great for those short trips around the corner- I find that hooking up my phone to one of those units and then unplugging/plugging when I leave and come back is sometimes more of a hassle than its worth. Imagine being able to play your music just by having your phone ON you)
Now, as far as navigation goes, I bought myself one of those cheapo $5 (shipped) plastic belt holsters from ebay, which can hold the phone face in or face out.
Because my particular vehicle (Sentra) has a compartment on the center of the dashboard, I was able to mount a loop that attaches from inside the compartment and the belt holster clips onto it very easily, and holds it securely.
The advantages of doing it my way:
-If not using GPS or going on short drives, you don't actually need to connect ANYTHING! You can leave the phone in your pocket...
-No propietary parts means that this setup is future-proof, and cross-platform. The a2dp stereo will still be there when/if I switch to another phone, and when my wife drives the car, her phone syncs up and plays music as well (samsung standard fare). The OP's setup here is 6800-specific.
-When not using the device, my "holster" can unclip from the loop and stow away (holster and loop) into the compartment of my dashboard. Instant cleanup, nothing cluttering up the dashboard.
-Can hold the device, or pass it to someone else in the car without disconnecting anything. (Last night handed the phone to my sister in law in the backseat to control the music while still connected over a2dp)
-Clean, less dashboard space used, even when holster is out and car charger connected.
Disadvantages:
-Have to take it out of the holster in order to use the keyboard.
-um... that's about it?
Anyway, I'll try to take some pictures soon and post them so you can see what I'm talking about.
Quick question. Has anyone tried streaming their music library using ORB and connecting their mogul to a car stereo? I am curious if the sound would be any good or if the connection is too choppy? Just curious. Thanks.

works fine. Even at 1x data.
Think about this... low quality mp3 is encoded at 64kbps. Standard/medium quality (often referred to as CD-Quality) mp3 is 128kbps. Higher Quality is around 190kpbs, and audiophiles prefer to keep it at 200-300kpbs (although most people can't tell the difference at that bitrate).
If your EVDO connection is averaging 600-800kbps, its more than enough speed to stream mp3's in FULL quality.
1x data is around 120k, so even if you're not in an EVDO area, you should still be able to get at least "CD-Quality" stereo!
I used ORB to stream my mp3s from home when I first got my mogul...and it worked great...now its not working again with the new ROM
Been thinking of a car mount myself. I found out that with GStreamer I can stream music from my home MP3 server. Still need to work on how to secure it, but it would let me stream any of my music over EVDO to my phone.
Is the internal GPS worth it? Been thinking about flashing but not sure if I want to do all the work...would have to setup a windows partition on my Linux box to sync correctly
wow i like that mount and it looks like you have a 3 series! new body, thats my favorite car, i want the 335 coupe BADLY. I been using my phone as Mp3 in my Nissan maxima for the longest, works wonders and if a phone call comes in, music stops and take call from my bt headset. But a mount would make a world of difference. How much you get that mount for?
I am having issues with the adapter to bluetooth handoff and back. Using WMP, sometimes things will transfer properly to my headset, but then when the phone tries to resume music it will skip the current song saying the "Device is not ready". This is problematic because I mostly listen to podcasts and finding my place again is a PITA.
I was going to try another music program - but it sounds like many of you are having success with WMP. Are you making any tweaks to get good handoffs?
What connection order are you using. IE: Pair BT headset, plug adapter, play music???
Thanks in advance.
I have this mount in my Chevy. Instead of using the suction cup or vent clip i attached a metal bracket (as seen in picture) behind the radio bezel. then i attached the mount to the metal bracket. Ran all my wires back thru dash even ran a external antanna wire. rock solid mount with no bouce or vibration.
Work great with aux input on radio.
the pictures you guys are posting look nice but they don't serve my purpose I already have my ipod connected to my car stereo via ipod jack so i can't use and aux input instead because i want to listen to my music from my ipod. I once seen a holster for a phone that had a speaker attached to it thats the type of setup i need so i can still hear the tom tom announcements over the music through a little amplified speaker... DO THEY MAKE SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR THE MOGUL??????
ok im running 5.0.2H and it has stereo bluetooth right? have to make sure of that first lol.
In my car I dont have bluetooth, I just have the standard AUX input. So I was thinking of buying some type of adapter to plug into my AUX plug on my cars headunit that can then connect via bluetooth to my G1 to play stereo music.
Can someone recommend some good devices that would help me get this done? Thanks
didn't your G1 come with a headset??? if so you can plug any normal 3.5mm plug into it and it should work fine foger the dongle thing. personally mt G1 camr with a two piece headset, one that plugged into the phone and allowed a 3.5 mm headset plug, and the earbuds that plugged into the first piece. just get a male/male 3.5mm jack and plug it into the first piece, it should work fine
yes I know I can plug a stereo aux cable into my g1 with the dongle but I dont want to. i want to connect wirelessly via stereo bluetooth
any help please?
I've got a friend who uses this dongle with his car sound system and it seems to do the job pretty well: http://www.porta-charge.co.uk/accessory_0283.html
Also try searching google for '3.5mm bluetooth adapter' and a few show up with some reviews.
EDIT: Actually I think that device I linked to is a transmitter that plugs into his iPod and transmits to his bluetooth stereo. Try googling for '3.5mm bluetooth receiver', seems there's a couple of devices that will do that for you, they seem pricey though.
Something like this, perhaps? http://www.gadgetworld.co.uk/p/Mavizen_BluDock_Bluetooth_Receiver.htm
I'm gonna get this but it the website has really slow shipping times since it's from Hong Kong...

Looks good and a good price too. Pleast post how well it works when you get a chance. Are you running Haykuro?
Im interested in that too.. anyone confirm working?
So considering that godsfilth never posted his evaluation of the Motorola s705 I thought that I would. I figured the specs and price was good, it's still available for $30 from Amazon. Long story short, it works like a charm. For reference I'm now running Dudes .92 with the new radio.
The music streaming connected right away from the default media player. Play, pause, and track changes worked fine. If you hold the "phone" button it will do the voice dialing. I've always found it a bit flaky myself but that's android not the blue tooth adapter.
Once connected it basically acts as the mic and speaker for the phone. The only drawback is that the track controls on the device only work with the default media player. I use mixzing a lot, and the audio comes through fine but if i try to use the controls on the adapter it also launches the default player. I think this might be on the android side though.
Overall, it's well worth the $30.
I just got this

(mentioned earlier by amgupt01) from DealExtreme for $13. Works like a charm - PlugnPlay. Never again wired headset!
Shipped in 9 days to Sweden (from HK) - actually it arrived to Sweden after 5 days - then the Swedish Postal Service went on vacation, obviously - Not bad, considering shipping is free from DealExtreme.

I just got the s705 in the mail today. The FM receiver works just fine but the BT is a little weird. Like benmyers2941 said, only the default music player will respond to the input from the headset. But when music is playing, every now and then, the playback would pause, then immediately resume at random times. I don't have a clue why. Could the device be faulty, is it my G1, or my FW. I'm running JF's 1.5.
Edit:
I think I have figured out why it was showing these symptoms. I did a wipe and switched to Haykuro's latest and the symptoms went away. After the wipe I realized that I was also running Open Overclock beforehand. If someone could try to use this device while running Open Overclock and confirm/deny that the symptoms are present, then that would point out whether it was the FW or Open Overclock.
Nope. I don't think it's Open OverClock. I think that the device is defective. It will only do that "pause and resume" thing when I'm walking. For what ever reason I can't fathom, it worked perfectly after i made the wipe yesterday. But today, it doesn't work properly. I even put both the phone and s705 in the same pocket. I've tried restarting both while on a walk, but that didn't help. Also, I've had regular conversations on my BT125 with no problem, the same with the default earbuds the phone came with. Does anyone know how I can determine which has the defect?
Well, the usual way - Try the s705 with another phone and/or try your G1 with some other A2DP headset. Can't see any other way to find who to blame.

Hey,
Just a thanks to you guys for the headsup about the $13 bluetooth thingy from dealextreme, just got mine yesterday.
When I heard that the G1 had no 3.5mm jack I was really dissapointed.
As gadgeteer and an audiophile, I was keen to try bluetooth stereo out, but to be honest I wasn't really expecting much (I mean, the G1 doesn't even have a equalizer!)
How wrong was I! Sound quality is excellent, I truely am shocked! I could quite happily replace my Sony mp3 player with the G1 and stereo bluetooth.
This little bluetooth jack will keep me happy until the market in bluetooth headphones explodes after Apple enters the fray.
One comment though, sometimes I can hear the pitch of the audio speedup or slowdown.. not sure if this is the receiver or the phone, not too fussed about it though.
Oh, and having no wires running around your body totally rocks!
Yeah, after a few weeks, I'm still very satisfied. With my use (biking to and fro work) it lasts > one week between charges. Haven't noticed any pitch drift - but then all I listen to is .977 The 80s Channel using StreamFurious. Beats the hell out of any OTA radio station where I live!
One thing - Without using too great force, I managed to pry away the clip - and the spring just vanished into thin air! The clip was easy to put back, but now it's just dangling there. So be carfeul when "operating" the clip.

Maybe it's just bad luck.
I bought one pair of these off ebay and the microphone didn't work.
It's paired and connected for phone and music. Music control and playback is great. When a phone call comes, the music stops and plays my ring tone in my ear. I answer with the button on the side, but this is where the problems start. While in a phone call I can hear the other person, but they can't hear me. The microphone simply doesn't work. I try tapping and blowing to register any sound, and there's nothing.
All the websites say this is supported by the G1, but I'm starting to not believe it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Am I doing something wrong?
Then I bought a pair from Best Buy. Same thing.
Thank you.
The same thing happened to me actually when I was testing out various bluetooth headsets. Looked like a bit of an idiot in town talking to myself haha. I've not had a chance yet to test a different headset and indeed if the recent fixes (look in the development section for the thread by Meltus) actually work.
Well, IDK, because I have Cupcake and it doesn't work. I think I'm just gonna throw in the towel and return the Best Buy one... and use it just for music, not phone calls...
Official Cupcake (OTA) or a modified one? If you haven't already I would recommend rooting your mobile phone and slapping on the Dude build, this along with the Meltus audio mod has fixed the bluetooth issue.
In my signature there is a link to the FAQ if you need instructions on how to root etc.
Oh man. I used to mess with my Wing so much. I had open touch, touch it, thought about ICP, and everything, but the G1 seems like something I really shouldn't mess with. It seems too... integrated.
On top of that, are there any guarantees this would make my s9-hd work in call?

I have the S9 headset and works fine with my phone, i am running JF1.5
s9-hd
i have the s9-hd bought from someone off of craigslist. pairs perfectly and bass hits hard
Hmm... guess I am s.o.l. Maybe I'll give it another shot, but I think I'm just cursed.
The music is great, the sound quality in call is great, but the mic won't connect, or something.
i had the same problem while on JF 1.51 so i decide to try another rom and it been working fine on cyanogenrom idk if ur into the rooting of ur g1 but that seem to be the only fix for me
I am using the S9 SYN1902 A, they work fine for me on jf 1.50 and jf 1.51.
I had some problems with the s9-hd at first on my G1, but have eventually grew to really like it. I wear it everywhere listening to podcast and shoucast streams using Streamfurious. It has worked about the same using the stock mod and now CM 3.8.6.1.
1. first off it didn't fit my head, but kept stretching it before each use and after about 5 days it now fits perfectly and I can wear it for hours without any fatigue or ear strain.
2. You have to make sure that you turn bluetooth on the G1 first for auto-pairing to work properly.
3. I'd like to get an arm case for the G1 because the audio will cut out by having it in pants pocket. I can use it no problem by placing it in my laptop bag on the go.
4. I have had a strange problem with pairing the headset set, but that was resolved by turning off the radio and turning it back on.
Do these have InEar headphones or standard ones?
For example, are they like this (inear):

the first ones (they come with different sized buds)
JJ, they are more like the in-ear version (but I would say they are not quite as tight as other noise-cancelling in ear headphones I have tried - a good balance imho).
I have this set for almost a year now using it daily (while commuting to work, during exercise, commuting home, and sometimes in the evening while hanging out at home). They have really worked great and I have definitely gotten A LOT of use out of them. However I think they are finally starting to flake out on me. They still work, but not the colored light no longer flashes while I charge it, tho it still seems to charge. Also, some other times while working out the volume starts to beep uncontrollably. Turning the headset off and on again doesn't always work, so I think some sweat might be seeping into the unit causing it to short out. After leaving the unit sit for a while (1hr+) it again seem to work just fine. go figure. Also the adhesive on the back of the unit is definitely starting to peel more and more. If I am unable to mod the S9-HD to breathe more life into it I might be back in the market for a new A2DP headset in the near future.
ciao
Hi,
Does anyone know if any of the 3.5mm wired headsets with at least an answer button would work with Optimus 7? Winter is coming and it would suck to have to take out the phone and take off gloves just to answer a call.
I've just tried the one from Samsung Galaxy S and the phone didn't respond to the answer button on it.
Thanks,
Alan.
Update: I feel really stupid but I didn't notice neatly designed answer button. It's there. Problem solved.

Hmmm... My Optimus 7 came with a wired headset that works really well (with an answer button that doubles as a play/pause button). But I am in Canada, so it might just be a Canadian thing. Where are you at?

Mine also came with a button and i live in Sweden. It should be the same everywhere.
Haha. Silly me. Didn't notice that it's a button on the other side of the mic. Thanks and sorry for this thread!

Btw, double-clicking it works as next in Zune. Great.
And tripple-click is almost back. It starts the song that is playing right now from start. Havn't found a way to make step one track back.
Sony MW600 with W3 Westone's
I picked up a Sony MW600 Bluetooth headset dongle. It's about the size of a double A battery and has an LED screen which tells you the number calling, allows you to connect 3 bluetooth device simultaneously, has volume control, and has a play, pause, next, and back button for use with media... it sounds better with my Westone W3's plugged into it then plugged into the phone! It seems to only be available in eBay - I can't find it in stores in NA at all... do a search on it... fantastic product - worth every dime I paid (like $50 bucks)

I can only agree with you, multipoint works just great (I´m Jusing 4 devices...) oh and btw the soundquality is great (could be better, indeed but at this size..)
But I'm wondering why the MW600 don't show the actual music title (It does on Win7 MacOsX and Android)

I have the MW600 also. Hopefully the next update of the WP7 OS will enable the display of the names in agenda in calls also the track names when playing music.
Is it fully compatible with Optimus 7?
My original headset broke down and i'm looking for something new.
Actually I have a problem in defining what is compatible with the optimus 7 (or WP7) and what is not.
I had a pair of Apple in ear (3 buttons + mic) and the mic doesn't work, while the central button does. Any other solution i thought about has 3 buttons and i'm not sure it will work. I don't like risk, too, and I don't want to pay 80€ for something i'm not sure it work.
So this Sony MW600 appeared to me as a nice solution and relatively cheap. I'm just willing to know if it works properly.
Thankyou in advance.
I just found a new Mango feature with the original (and possibly other) headset:
I don't really know if this is a new Mango feature but as far as I can recall it did not work before.
You can use the button on the mic to control music playback. This is how it worked before Mango:
1 tap: play/pause
2 taps: next track
3 taps: restart track
After the mango update, three taps go back to the previous track if you do it right after the track started playing.
If you already are in the middle of a track, three taps will restart the track.
Really a useful feature in my opinion.
Can anyone post the model number of the original/oem headset?
I bought my phone used, and would like to purchase one.

FYI, I recently bought another OEM LG headset on eBay which allows me to use the same advanced multiple tap music control functionality and also lets me use my own headphones with the mic/remote.

You are welcome. I will probably buy one like yours soon. These in ear headphones just don't want to stay in my ear!!!
Is anybody using a headset other than Sony Ericsson/ Sony? If yes, do you have any problems?
I'm looking for a new pair and I'd like to have the microphone and remote controls (either one, two or three buttons; configureable with the Jay's or Nocs Headset App from the play store) working.
So far I used the standard headset that came with the phone and had the earphones changed but unfortunately it broke. So I was thinking about either getting this (very cheap) one from htc and change the earphones one more time or maybe some proper ones like Sennheisers, Jay's, Nocs or whatever.
Does it matter if they are actually "made for the iPhone"?
I just shipped a pair of SE LiveSound back as the LiveKey didn't work; simply, it wasn't recognized by the SE App (old and new) at all. Other keys worked but the Headset wasn't really satisfying in general as the phones fell out easily (e.g. while running or even just walking).
Thanks for your help.

The HTC headphone is not In Ear/ noise isolating, so all the external noise will enter your ear while listening to music.
I am using LiveSound headset, and the live key WORKS. you have to use Sony Smart Connect app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.extras.liveware&feature=search_result
But to be frank, after using the live key for some while, i found out you really don't really need the extra key, because you can only launch apps by pressing it, but you cannot change tracks while playing a song, or other in app function.
No iPhone headsets are going to work with Ray as the headset connector configuration is different. You need an extra connector. Some headphones offer that, some doesn't. My friend bought a Philips SHH 7810, which was by default compatible with iPhone but also came with a connector for Xperia 2011 and Nokia phones.
And well, your phone fell out while walking? How is that possible?
read this: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/31455
"There are two major standards out there for headsets, OMTP and CTIA. Sony Ericsson phones follow the OMTP standard along with other manufacturers, while other follows the CTIA standard.
The difference of these two standards is the wiring to the 3,5mm plug. Therefore if you connect a CTIA headset to a Sony Ericsson phone you might get reduced functionality or it might not work at all. (Depending on accessory and phone model)
When it comes to headphones (no mic) there is only one standard out there, so any 3,5mm headphones works with your Sony Ericsson phone."

I guess you mean a pair of headphones. I have an old pair of Creative's EP-630 lying around and they work just normally when plugged in. Right now I use these when running, however I really do miss a headset with a remote to be able to switch between the tracks without pulling out the phone. (I use this to store the phone, keys, etc. so it won't bounce around and I can fully recommend it to everybody up to jogging or running. )

I also thought about using a bloetooth device, yet I need it simply "plug 'n play" without many cords and additional gizmos to carry around or settings on the phone to turn on. Using a headset means for me: Plug it in, plug the phones into your ears and you're fine. I'm also not sure how much it would affect the battery life.

You probably didn't get me right. I had an old pair of in-ear headphones which are quite OK with a broken cable. Luckily I didn't threw them away and had the idea to cut away the phones from the original headset that came with the ray. I cut the (old) in-ears from their cable as well, opened and soldered them to the sony headset cable and thus created my very own version of a headset. However after last summer, the headset button stopped responding properly. (I guess because the remote unit got wet while running)
I used the latest two versions of Smart Connect as well as two old LiveWare Manager apps and it didn't work. At the same time I also tried out different ROMs (PACMAN, FREEXPERIA and SuperleggeraV3) and put a lot of time into trying out all the combinations. The remote worked every time without problems, only the Livekey wasn't configurable. As I ordered it over eBay, there might also be the possibility that they were simply fake as not a single time they were recognized as the LiveSound headset. (I saw on some screenshots that they are actually recognized as such when working properly)
Changing tracks in fact is possible, you can configure the keys to change tracks by holding the Volume UP/ DOWN button. You might try Jay's app or something similar to configure the buttons.
I actually did fancy the Livekey button so I could use it with Google Now as I expect google to develop it further and probably overtake Apple's Siri in its possibilities.
Ultimately, I didn't like the remote buttons (they are built inside in a different way than the Livekey button) and especially the tanglefree cords. The are really hard to tangle, however they are therefore stiffer and since the remote is on one of the ears' cable, the in-ear fell out easily when doing something with the remote. In general they were more eager to slip out with a tange free cable than with a thin one. It also bothered me that they were much more visible due to the flat cable but this is just my pesonal opinion about the look...

best thing to do is buy an Adapter for sony Ericsson.
all Sony Ericsson phones until 2011 are not compatible with standard headsets.. Sony Smartphones are compatible with Standard Headsets. and it's rare to find a headsets that are compatible with SE. so, buying a cheap Adapter is the best thing to do. ^_^
is Sony MDR-XB500 compatible?
I'm using the bluetooth jabra halo2 headset :
http://www.jabra.com/Products/Bluetooth/JABRA_HALO2/Jabra_HALO2
it has also a micro and some volume controls.
You can also use it with a wire, this is a little adapter cable included for SE phones ...
