Hey guys, I flashed to J16 using odin but it seemed to soft brick so i flashed to stock. From stock i then flashed to J16 and it worked. Question is if I used titanium backup for a full restore, will that be counter productive? Will it restore the stock gps files etc?
First of all, it's J eye six, not J one six.
Titanium offers many restore options. You'll be able to choose what you want to restored. Restore only (specifically avoiding the restoration of system settings, etc) the missing apps + data and you should be ok.

I'm currently running Bionix 1.7. After flashing, I did a batch restore of apps + data only. Most apps restored fine. I wanted to restore Telenav and Audio Postcard. I selected them in Titanium Backup (they were under the Backup/ Restore tab with a line thru them). The problem is, it doesnt give me the option to restore. Only Backup!, Freeze!, Uninstall!, and Delete. I assume this is because these were system apps. Is there anyway I can restore these while using the JI6 firmware?
Hi, my gs2 is rooted with CF-Root, this is the FIRST time i have done all this as im new to Android. Last night i did a nandroid backup and a titanium backup, factory/cache wipe etc before i then flashed villainrom 2.4.2 for the first time with success and now my phone is obviously like it was out of the box but on villainrom, so all my apps, contacts etc have gone.
I have a few questions:
Whats the best way to restore everything and get my contacts and apps etc back? do i have to recover with nandroid or titanium?
whats the difference between these 2 backups i made, nan/titan?
also does recovering any of these backups affect the custom rom i just flashed? ideally i would like to know for when im flashing custom roms in the future, which is the best way to back things up then recover them after i have flashed a custom rom?
One last thing is can i still use samsung kies to backup/sync things like contacts/photos with a rooted gs2 running villainrom?
Sorry for these noob questions, any help is really appreciated! THX!

A nand backup = backup your current setup, like an image (including ROM)
Titanum = backup apps +/ data
Now that you flashed a new rom, you should restore with Titanium your apps.
So - If you want to go back to your earlier ROM + everything, use your nand back up. If you want to stay on this ROM and have the apps back, use Titanium.
And once you flashed a custom rom, you can't use Kies anymore to update/back up etc.

I am facing a very curious and seemingly common problem.I have litening rom installed on my gs2. Now i want to change the ROM but dont want to lose my data. Taking a nandroid backup I noticed that there is a special option in CWM called advanced restore.Using that you can restore parts of your nandroid backup instead of taking a full restore.
Now my question is that, once I have installed a new ROM can I take a restore of only the data part of my nandroid backup to my current ROM? The backup was taken when I had litening ROM installed. Will it return all my apps , app data and other things as they were with litening rom to my new ROM ?
You should have used Titanium Backup to restore apps and app data, restoring system data across different ROMS is not typically recommended but can be done, it is totally up to you. Nonetheless, your best bet to restore any or all of this is not a nandroid backup, that is best for restoring an entire ROM, to restore just apps or data or whatever, use Titanium Backup. So my advice would be, create another nandroid of your new ROM, restore back to your old ROM, download Titanium backup, backup apps and data using that. Restore back to new ROM, download titanium backup and choose option, restore missing apps and data.
I was just wondering, I'm looking at changing from power rom to something different and noticed everyone says always do a nandroid before flashing a new rom.
My question is, for all those who regularly change roms how do you restore all your apps and data quickly and easily, is there a way of partially restoring some of it from your nandroid backup as when I go to restore from a nandroid you get the option to restore the entire backup or just a certain part of it??
Forgive me if this is a stupid question but I find it really annoying having to redownload everything over and over, especially with all the problems I've had recently and thought I may be missing something obvious!
Nandroid is for updating from compatable -> compatable roms, as in they will work fine without a fac reset.
Use titanium backup if you're crossing roms that cant be used without fac resets, and only restore user apps and manually do system apps.

I have CWM Touch Recovery v6.0.3.1. A couple of hours ago, I made a NANDroid backup before flashin a new ROM. When I attempted to use NANDroid backup manager to restore my apps and data, the app said I had no apps in the backup. Upon reviewing the files CWM created, I discovered that it created several data.ext4.tar files. Is there a way to combine these so I can use the Nandroid backup manager to restore my apps. I've managed to restore call logs, text messages and wifi data but my apps are important too

EDIT: I do realise I could probably use CWM for restoring but I want to restore specific apps and not the data. (I.e the recently updated hotmail app)
Plus, restoring with CWM flashes data that is incompatible with the new ROM.

As far as i know Nandroid backup is used to restore previously backed up ROM+installed applications+app data . If you jus want to back up some application, just use something like "Titanium Backup", it workes great.

Titanium, Backup (TiBu) has an option for extract from nandroid backup in its menu. why dont you try that if u have TiBu installed ..

A nandroid backup is used to backup the system,boot,recovery... In case your phone is bricked but if yout want to backup apps just use an application like titanium backup

I hope this is a right place to ask my question here. If not please please tell me and head me over to an other thread where this has been discussed.
I've rooted the S4 mini successfully (thanks to arco68). Right after the rooting process and installing ARCO's CWM I backed up the stock 4.4.2 rom in any case. I did a factory reset and flashed CM 11 also successfully and everything was good. After a week I wanted to go back to stock. So I restored the backup I made previously. Everything went out good, but now the whole system is inconsistent and instable. I have problems with the WiFi, SD card problems and so on.
What am I did wrong? Any advise is very welcome
I will flash stock via Odin tomorrow and root it again. But I want to avoid this process in future
