[Q] Dial up slow internet speeds even with 3G/H - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On speedtest I'm usually in-between 100-200kbps with the upload speeds being much faster. My old G1 kills this phone on internet speeds. I can't even watch YouTube videos on low quality smoothly. I have the newest radio, clarity bootloader Rom, and mdeejayz froyo sense Rom. Tried different roms with the same results. How can I fix this?

Rev A - how to know if its active?

I'm using the new DCD 2.0 rom with great results -- and since I've been just a lurker for awhile, a big THANK YOU to everyone working on that.
I have a quick question: How do I know if it's connected using Rev A? I'm not seeing any performance differences, though there should be Rev A coverage here... just curious
There are a few mobile bandwidth tests that you can run.
http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1
my average looks about 611 kbit/sec... that is the same as before the Rev A upgrade. this means Rev A isn't working? and to judge by reports from others, I guess nobody really has it working?
sorry to put those as a question, butas far as I can tell, there is no evidence of a speed diff w/ the new radio.
gps works great, of course... and on WM6.1, everything is faster. just not data...
Are you sure you have Rev A in your area?
I'm getting around 900k now... before I was in the 200k range, if I was lucky!
Check out this site for an idea of Rev. A coverage in your area.
Hint: The more that submit the more accurate it becomes...
http://evdomaps.com/
Rev A is definetly working on the 3.16 ROMs. I used to average around 400-600 down and never more than about 120 up. Now I'm averaging around 1 meg down and 300 up. The best I've gotten was 2.2 down, 540 up. Definetly Rev A...
My upload speed is faster, but my download speeds are still the same. Then again, I've always wondered how good the EVDO network in my area actually is.
I like this entry on EVDO Maps:
200 Consillium Place Toronto, ON M1H 3J3
Carrier: Verizon Create Date: 6/29/2007
Computer: CANADAPK Update Date: 6/29/2007
Network: RevA Location: outdoors
Download: 1972 Upload: 640
dBm: Bars:
This is TELUS Mobility HQ.... almost 2megs/sec download!
interesting.
I'm in Utah Valley, in ... err... well, Utah. Sprint's maps all show full coverage, but I thought I saw a map once that had specifically Rev A. now I can't find it.
maybe they don't have it here yet... that would be strange, given the unusually high concentration of technology companies that are found around here, even despite Novell's slow decline. But, I've been getting 400-1000kbps since I got my phone, not just since the update... no noticable change.
maybe someday they'll get it going and suddenly everything will speed up =]
too bad there is no indication other than speed of which rev the evdo is running. it would be interesting
do you really mainly notice Rev A speeds when you use your phone as a modem? i thought i'd really be able to see a difference with Rev A using slingplayer, but i get the same speeds as i did on my old rom. i live around pittsburgh as well which is supossed to be a rev A area.
Check the latency
As a general statement, the improvements from Rev. 0 to Rev. A are not that impressive on the download side. Yes, the improvements on the upload side should be more impressive, but how many people are doing any significant uploading?
On the other hand, the latency should improve considerably and I think most people overlook that. It's a pretty big deal.
We just got finished upgrading the embedded WWAN on a bunch of laptops at work from Rev. 0 to Rev. A and I can tell you the entire improvement was in the latency. The responsiveness was much improved.
I would be checking that first. Do some before and after tests and report them back.
yeah, ive definately seen an improvement in latency, i used to get 1s+ pinging google, now i average about 125ms
wow
i flashed to the leaked htc 3.16 first and my download is really slow, more like 288 to 488. but when i flashed to dcd's 2.0 i got 997/sec. thats amazing. big difference. i used the same mobile speed site.
edit:
just did another test 1020/sec thats cool. I myt not get the same speed all the time but it feels good knowing i wont go anywhere near the slow speed of pass roms.
I get around 2.23MBPS download using opera mini and the running the Leaked 3.16 ROM. Much faster than my previous 400-1.2MBPS download on the 2.16 ROM. Funny thing is that, when i switch from opera mini to Opera Mobile, or IE, i get really slow speeds, maybe top at 1MBPS but usually like 500KBPS. Its like only opera mini can use the Rev.A while the other two stick with the Rev.0
well, i'm getting about 110 down, and i live in chicago where we have rev A, i've never been able to get more than 1x
anyone have any ideas on why that i live in a rev a area, i only get 1x, always only get 1 x
600-900kbs avg for me on TELUS

Remember that Opera Mini goes through a server and strips some data from the images so they load faster on your device, which in turn shows inflated download speeds. Opera Mobile and IE are loading the raw data so it takes longer, thus yielding the "real" speed results.
I thought that Rev A was supposed to support simultaneous Data and Voice connections? I was not able to load a website while on a call. Is this something that needs to be activated by the carrier? Should I be able to do both on the new ROM? I see that there is still a CDMA1X connect that happens when I load a webpage, or at first data usage...any ideas?

That would be EVDV not REV A.
Here is a good explanation of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CDMA2000

What's your EVDO speed?

Saw this on ppcgeeks, I was wondering what xda users' speeds were (rev a or not) on their titan...
www.dslreports.com/mspeed (1mb test)
1603k
opera mini
rev a. update
titan, sprint leaked rom
chicago (NW suburbs)
anywhere from 200k to 1200k
in ie
but, i can't seem to run the test again through opera mini, says to fast/unstable, do i need to clear some cache from opera? so many of these tests seem so off, like running from ie vs opera..
can anyone recommend good websites for testing from the phone (non flash) for accurate results?
I did the 1 meg test for the dcd's titan rom 2.0.0 on my Verizon Titan w/Rev A 3.27.00 Radio ROM
911 kbit/sec - 985 kbit/sec
0.293s to 0.198s latency
9.228s to 8.445s d/l time
I am getting 900k or better on a regular basis, same test site. I cant use speedtest.net for whatever reason cause the phone wont load properly.
If anyone is using other speed test sites, let me know.
I get 200 to 900 on Alltell in Springfield Missouri on the stock ROM. My results are all over the board. It bounces up and down plus or minus 300 kbits from one second to the next in the same physical spot. I check it often since it was my reason for switching to Alltel. It seems strange that it supposedly fluctuates so greatly from one second to the next as Im standing still.
Harrisburg, PA
First Run
837kbit/sec
0.837s latency
10.401s download time
Second Run
874bikt/sec
0.994s latency
10.014s download time
I'm getting around 900k, but those damned lacked of video drivers really kill the fun of EVDO when trying to use web browsers.

I don't know too much about the lack of drivers; but what does the lack of drivers do to hinder the phone / web browsing?
On Telus, using Opera in my building with ****ty reception, 1039 kbit/sec.
0.329s latency
8.129s d/l time.
That is on a1jatt's custom Telus rom on the latest radio 3.27.00
Wow, a restest shows:
1996 kbit/sec.
0.22 latency
4.323s d/l time.
I'm in Ottawa, Ontario.
800-1100kbps
I used the mspeed a couple times but I prefer speakeasy.
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
You'll need flash
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer_pocketpc/downloads/player.html
I cant BELIEVE I had forgotten about reinstalling Flash7
thx

Puts a lot of stress on the CPU to have to both load and render the pages. You see the same effect on a PC if you have no video drivers installed.
There's a non-Java test at www.mobilespeedtest.com. With ROM version 2.09 and only PIE running, I got top EVDO speeds around 955kbps when testing five times in a row, with an average of about 865k when throwing out the one-time 245k result.
i'm in greensboro NC highest i've got around here is 12xx something

[Q] Can changing Roms improve data speed?

I didn't think so but I had been running Mean Rom for months (great rom) and stock before that. On both stock (pre and after rooting) and mean rom I rarely hit 1 mbps, usually was around 500-700 kbps. I switched to deck's CM build yesterday and between yesterday and today I have consistently been hitting between 1.5-2.2 mbps. I know its a small sample size, but it has been at my regular locations, and I did a few tests before switching yesterday morning. What gives? Is this just dumb luck or can different roms actually provide different data speeds?
I have noticed the same thing switching from stock to CM10. I don't have enough knowledge to be sure but I think it has to do with how the ROM uses the radio drivers. Or even how each driver is compiled for the ROM. Then again Stock sense is trash.

Removing the downgraded speed on hotspot

I'm in the USofA using Tmobile as my carrier. When I activate the hotspot on my phone (Note 9) and then connect my non-cellular tablet via the hotspot/wifi, the speed is only like 256kbps (not sure if its KBPS or KbPs or whatever), its just not as fast as the phone is when it's just the phone. The performance is adequate for minor gaming (Hayday) or low res YouTube videos (haven't tried Netflix). Being a new member here and recently learning about custom roms and so forth, it got me thinking the tethering/throttling has got to be a setting of some kind so I thought I'd ask here, Is there a way to disable the throttling of the attached tablet when the phone is acting as a hotspot? :fingers-crossed:

Besides MIUI, are there any other ROMs with good WiFi/4G speeds?

Hi there,
So I'm on crDroid, and have been for a while, it's a great ROM, does everything I need, and works great without root. I have noticed my 4g and WiFi seem a bit slow though, I can be sat right next to my router, and get less than 1mb/s, when my net is capable of 10mb/s. Now, I don't have another WiFi device to test this properly.
I have also noticed that my 4g is pretty slow too, now that's probably just down to my network, but I can only get like 5mb/s max when I'm outside with full signal.
Are there any ROM's people would suggest for the best signal quality? Both WiFi and mobile data. I'm not a fan of MIUI, as its aggressive battery management and app killing just wasn't what I was used to, used custom ROM's on my phones for the longest time!
I don't use root, so being able to pass safety net and use banking apps etc is a must.
Thanks,
donk165
Scrap that, seems my speedtest app was bugged out, the speeds seem better now, managed to get 10mb/s at work inside a building on 4g, and on the work Wifi, im getting 100mb/s up and down. crDroid is fine
How is this crdroid for gaming? Do you play any games?
