T-mobile update help! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today i woke up to the new Update for the vibrant. So of course i tried to update it. My phone is rooted if that makes a difference running everything else stock though. I did the one click root or whatever it was. Well i clicked update and sat my phone down as i got ready. Come back its at the boot screen where it says Vibrant and Samsung in white. I figured it was just loading the new files and just taking a little long. Well by the time i got to school it was still like that so i removed the battery so it would not overheat. Replaced the battery booted up and stalled on boot screen again. This time it made the opening music but never transitioned screens. So i took battery out replaced it and went into clockwork and did a nandroid. Reset it same thing happened. Tried that with three of my backups of previous dates. all failed. so i decided to wipe all data of the phone or factory reset. still stuck at boot screen.
If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated. if you need any other information just let me know.

same thing here. i've done all those steps. when i get home, im going to try and update the JI6 update through ODIN. i'll let you know what happens.

Common problem, easy solution..

XDA 2 Freezing on Boot Screen...Please Help

I have no idea what's going on with my XDA II. I have not done anything to modify or upgrade it recently. But suddenly the phone froze one day. I tried doing a soft reset but the phone just shut off. Kept pushing power button but nothing worked.
I then tried a hard reset which didn't work either. I finally just removed the battery and the sim card and then replaced them. My phone finally booted up and went through the standard hard reset sequence. I restored my backup information into the phone. Later on it froze again...with the same problem.
I finally got my phone working, but it freezes almost everytime I try to do something. When i do a reset, whether hard or soft, I get stuck at the boot screen with nothing happening. I reset it about 8 or 9 times before i get back into the phone and go through the intro to WM2003 again.
When i do get in, i can maybe make a call or two before the phone freezes up again. Don't know what to do, but really confused. I was going to contact o2 because the phone is still under warranty. However, I have upgraded to the TMobile 1.6 rom.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this please let me know. If not, does anyone have the original o2 rom that I could get a hold of? Thanks for all the help in advanced.
Does the phone freeze after you restore backup or does it do it even when you use it from scratch after hard reset?
It freezes no matter what. Most of the time, it'll refuse a hard reset. I would reset it, hard reset it and the phone will just load up on the Tmobile screen and stay there. Sometimes i'll get that circle thing that shows the phone is doing a process...but it'll go in circles forever.
Sometime down the line it'll actually let me through. Then i'd do the whole WM2003 intro again.
So to answer that question, it's not only on my restore, the phone consistently freezes up.
Looks like it's time to avail of the warranty and have your phone replaced.
I know, but in order to do that I have to get the original rom because i'm on tmobile 1.6 rom.
Mate, did you try to reinstall the 1.6 rom? Maybe download the latest ROM version and try to install it from your dead device...
My phone is just freezing on the boot screen and sometimes i can actually get in and use the phone for a while. Does this still constitute it as dead?
Since I can't get past the boot screen most of the time, I can't connect the phone to the computer to install the 1.6 rom again.
However, I did get past the boot screen once and did manage to sync it with my computer and reinstall the 1.6 rom. No help...same problem...
Ok, i finally got in and managed to update the rom to the new O2 rom. Everything was working fine for a long time. I used the phone and no problems. I left the phone on the sync cradele over night and by morning the phone was frozen. Reset and getting stuck at boot again...
ANyone have any ideas?
i also get this problem.
I have found many ppl got this problem, but no one has solution.
so what is everyone doing about it?

[Q] New GTab loved it for an hour then it crashed!!! HELP

I just received my new Gtab and wanted to test it before making any changes. After charging, I booted it and the first thing I noticed was that it did not enter setup as it was supposed to. I went through the steps in the manual and set up my network, etc. No problems. I checked for updates and got the message that it was up to date. I thought this odd since Viewsonic says there's an update that you should download immediately. I tried all the installed apps and then tried the update again. This time I got the message that an update was available so I downloaded it and then installed it. When this completed, the screen started to flash and I could get nowhere else. I rebooted and I get the startup screen and then the flashing. I can't get pass this because I can't use the touchscreen - it's blank and flashes every 10 seconds or so. Any suggestions????
When you use the Gtab for the first time, you will not get a setup screen like mentioned. I think this is because they tested at the factory and did the setup for you. If you revert back to stock rom and boot for the first time, the setup portion comes up and you have to make a few selections before you enter the rom for the first time.
I can't really comment on your situation with the update install since I am on vegan ginger rc1 and do not get the OTA updates. But when I first got my GTAB a few weeks ago, I did an OTA update to 3588 I believe, and it worked fine. Some of these updates take a while to configure before the first boot into the updated rom. Without seeing your problem I don't really have an answer for you but maybe you should power on and give the tablet some time to configure.
Same story
I assume you finally got your from woot, as I did. I had the same thing happen. I got the tablet back by booting into recovery, Volume up plus power, hold them, both until it turns on. Follow the directions to move the cursor and wipe cache, then factory reset, then apply update.zip. That should get you back in business.
Good luck.
Tom
Purchased from Tiger Direct. I tried booting into Recovery but I get the first message in the top left of screen and then screen goes blank except for the occasional flash!
I suggest you go under development sections and find the section on how to use nvFlash. Once you have it setup use nvFlash to restore back to stock.
nvFlash is a very powerful utility that has been made very easy to setup and use because of the devs here. It will come in handy when you start putting custom roms on your tablet(which I strongly recommend), and will help you recover from any kind of soft-brick.
Was it a brand new gtab or a returned used one?
Also you probally picked the wrong day for this because of the new update. Did you happen to notice the version before you updated?
If I was in your situation I would do an nvflash back to stock and start over.
Thanks for the suggestion. It is new and I managed to restore it back to stock and started over. Everything is running fine now but I know I'll need help from here as I mod on!

[Q] Yup...yet another boot loop!

OK. I have had my Atrix 4G since it first came out. I rooted it and installed apps and made customizations to it, etc.
I never installed a custom ROM since the tweaks I made fit my taste enough to not need to install a custom ROM. I have thought of it...but that is for another time.
Anyways, I recently changed fonts on using FontChanger and everything was working fine. However, last night I decided to change to another font and after rebooting my phone, I am now stuck in the ever so pleasant "Boot Loop".
I have tried wiping and restoring back to factory defaults, which appeared to work, but once I start going thru the process of setting up the phone and getting to the "home" page, the phone will suddenly automatically reboot and start to loop again. I can perform a reset which allows me to go thru the setup process again, but it suddenly reboots again after a few minutes.
I am guessing that perhaps the font is still causing problems, but I am not sure how to check to see if that is the case or not.
I have looked at other boot loop threads but I keep getting a bit confused as to what I should attempt or not attempt to do. It seemed to me that loading the 1.2.6 SBF might be my answer, but I have read that I could brick my phone doing that. Not to mention that some of the download links are dead....
Sorry for being yet another numbnutz and the long thread, but I would greatly appreciate some guidance on how to recover!
Thanks!
Ok... So after resetting my phone a few times I noticed that it goes into the boot loop cycle once the screen shuts off/or goes into sleep mode. If I keep the system from going to sleep everything appears to work fine.
My guess is still a font issue, but I thought a factory reset would've replaced the font back to default.
Anyone experience this issue or something similar to it?
And as a second thought can someone link me to the default fonts that I can try to reload?
UPDATE: well it looks like i am good to go again. It just occured to me that I can just download and use FontChanger to replace the bad font with the stock font. i let me phone go to standby mode and it didnt boot loop.
MODERATOR - Please feel free to close this thread as I believe I solved my own problem.

Rooted phone gone bad! Can I just wipe to factory?

Some of you might have seen my earlier thread, my ReZound is rooted. HTC sent out the ICS update my phone attempted to install it and afterwards it would not advance past the white HTC screen. After many hours of playing around with it (being semi-noobish to all things rooting, but decently knowledable with technology) I realized that on the H-boot screen it was telling me that the Image was missing. I assumed that the HTC update deleted it? After thinking about it, I thought that maybe installing a custom ROM would fix this, so I grabbed Scotts Clean ROM. Sure enough I did and I was finally able to advance past the white HTC screen. It looks as if everything is working fine with the phone now EXCEPT I have no data and no calling connection. Im assuming that my phone is just that messed up from the attempted upgrade this morning that im missing files needed for the connection.
My next thought was to just say heck with it and do a factory reset hoping to get back to a bone stock phone that at least functioned, but when I try the factory reset it doesnt work....
Any ideas of what I should do next? Ive spent 5-6 hrs trying to fix this phone today, I really hope to get something figured out. Thank you everyone for your help!
EDIT: I feel like an idiot... Because of putting the battery in and out for resets I left the back off the phone. I now have service. Main issue now is that when I try to call out, as soon as I type a number on the dialer it freezes up and restarts itself....
The phone still tries to look for the old image on the restart and gives me issues every time on startup still also. Id like to be able to get this back to not needing a ROM....
If it were me, I would download the official RUU for ICS found here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...cream-sandwich-ruu-for-final-ota-3-14-605-12/ IIRC, mirror #3 was the fastest. Then follow the directions from that site:
After downloading the file, rename it to "PH98IMG.zip" (no quotes)
Place the renamed file onto the root of the SD Card
Power down your device
Reboot into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + Power
The flashing process should begin automatically
Let the device reboot, and you should be done.
That will get you up and running. Then you can go about rooting it again if you like.

[Q] looking for some advice or help... boot loop?? or broken phone...

Have been rooting Androids for a while and have been about to solve all my problems by doing research and finding the solution... first time i actaully am stumped...
I have a HTC EVO 4G LTE, second one i had the first the microphone went bad, i rooted it just like the last one and it was running fine. I deleted a few system apps such as sprint music, friend stream, tunein radio, and an HTC app. forget what that was. but now my, at work today, keep restarting randomly and died very quickly. when i finally got a chance to charge it, it hung on a boot loop and then entered the system about 45 minutes later. and then quickly reset back into the boot loop, i have at least 25% battery at this point. it continues to cycle through this for the next 4 hours. i tried to just shut the system off but after like 10 minutes it would start the boot loop again and since i work at radioshack trying to fix it there really wasn't an option. I did try to boot into twrp and do a factory reset how ever when i attempted to boot in it just froze at the HTC screen and then reset into the boot loop.
Once i got home i relocked the bootloader and did a hardreset... to no prevail... it continued to reset i even took my memory card and then that seemed to solve it... i put the back cover on without the memory card and it almost instantly reset and continued through the boot loop until i removed the back cover again. i don't know to much about the making of this back cover but it does seem to have three sensers to know it if it on or off, i am assuming... i tried installing stock recovery and taken off root. the only thing i haven't does is a completely stock OS reset through an ruu... and if i do that i am taking the phone back to sprint and getting another new one... does anyone have any ideas? and if this same thing is posted somewhere i am sorry, i have searched and tried everything i found and so far aside from the stock reset nothing has really worked. i factory reset from system, fastboot, and twrp (it loaded only once). I did relock the oem and did uninstall root. removed micro sd and formated internal memory. any other suggestions
i would just run RUU.. if it still giving u problems take it to sprint.. if u runn a RUU and it goes away just root it again start fresh.,. thats what i would do
Thanks EVO. I did end up running ruu and when it completed it started the boot loop again. Almost all night and ended up heating the phone up to the point I just booted into bootloader so it would stop. It continued this morning. But here's the part I wanna know... I pulled the back cover off for sh*ts and giggles and it booted right up. I am actually posting from it. I am afraid to put the back cover on...
Soo... I confirmed it was the back. I used the phone to post that. Made several calls to sprint and talked to ny mother... Phone was fine. Replaced back, phone froze and went into boot loop until the back cover was removed.... Why though?...
soo... it looks like i wont be needing any help with this phone... as it has completely died..... won't even try to power on. well sprint see you tomorrow at noon!
