[Q] Overclocking stuck at 710 - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running KaosFroyo v36 and I can't get the overclock widget to move past 710. If I set it to 768 and save it I get the "Superuser access granted to overclock widget" and it says the change was successful but it stays at 710 no matter what. I have my min set at 245760 and max set at 768000 for the "screen on" frequency.
If I go back in, it shows the slider back at 710400 again. This is the first rom I've used that has overclocking in it so maybe I've just done something wrong.

Try SetCPU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419

I had the same exact issue. The developer emailed me saying he isn't sure what the problem is caused by.
I switched back to setcpu.

Ok I installed setcpu and set to 768 and set to autoconfigure at boot. A few moments later the phone hard locked. I rebooted but couldn't get to setcpu before it locked again.
Thank goodness I was able to use my l33t linux skills.
I booted into recovery, accessed the phone with adb and found the preferences xml file for setcpu and renamed it.
After rebooting all was good.

Don't use the set on boot setting till you fond out what speed your device can handle. I did the same I set it to 800'somthing and ran for a min then locked up and could not keep the phone booted long enough to change settings so I had to remove it through adb. Each device seems to be stable at different speeds. Mine is stable at 768 or 780 but I only ran at 748 and now I don't use it at all. I can't find a difference between those speeds and 710 , so if I decide to use it again it would be to underclock profiles fr better battery life.. ohh and overclock widget if set to a speed your phone can't handle than it will drop speed

[Q] Droid Overclock App Question

Pretty simple problems, and I am not that tech illiterate, so I am really puzzled.
First problem that is occurring is 'Set frequencies at boot". I have it set for Medium voltage, 1.15GHz. The problem is that when I reboot to implement the settings, upon reboot it goes back to stock settings, of max 1GHz. I have the slot checked for "apply on boot" feature selected. My profile settings, for screen off, battery<, are always saved.
Second problem is it sometimes keeps my profile of "screen off" on when I unlock the phone, and the profile is at at max and min of 300 MHz, so it's not like there isn't enough juice there to update it upon re-awaking. When I plug in the phone, it goes to the profile of charge/full, which is what I though it would be at when unplugged until the second profile of battery life kicks in.
Mine does the same. You need to create a Screen On profile.
Try redoing the set frequencies on reboot and see if that helps. If not try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

I have never experienced a true on boot set frequency. I always thought it would set that when my phone started up when I hit the power button and make it boot faster and what not but its for when the android os starts up it should implement the set frequency...when you first "log in" to android and the phone starts booting all the apps, the oc program you have installed is waiting in line to be opened and allowed by super user to run so it might take a few minutes for your frequency to be implemented. If that's not working at all even after a minute or two then un-check the option for set at boot and restart the phone, then check it and restart the phone and see if it has changed.

SetCPU Wake UP!!!

Still having problems. Sometimes the problem is that it is not switching from the Screen off profile when the screen is on. Sometimes it is on the right profile but will not throttle up the CPU until I mess around in SetCPU a little (or else it takes a long time). It seems like after I get the "SetCPU has root rights" message it will start working, but sometimes it is not needed.

Not having problems myself. Curious, what governor are you using? You shouldn't use profiles with some governors.
I know tons of people use setcpu and and it works for them.......but the few times I have tried it, I always have problems with it. I use os monitor to change gov settings and usually do not mess with anything else.
What kernel and also what was said previously. Having a screen off profile can conflict with the goveners already optimized routine causing lag. Using smartass I don't set any profiles just my Max frequency and governor.

I had these issues with most of the BFS Kernels. So I am using Adynalyn's 4.4.2 and have had no issues at all.

[Q] SetCPU Freezing on Startup

I posted this issue on the official issues page but it was deleted because apparently nobody else in the entire community (Google Code) has this problem after it being posted for only 5 min. SetCPU is freezing my tablet on startup right after the message "SetCPU has been granted Super User Permissions". I had o/c'd to 1.512 ghz not even the full o/c but this keeps happening. I was finally able to uninstall setCPU and no further issues. Has this happened to anybody else?
I had a problem where it would freeze right after setcpu received SU permissions. Turned I I fixed it by changing my min to anything but 432mhz... I only had a few seconds to switch the settings on boot before setcpu would lock up.
I've had the problem, set settings at boot cause of the freeze and restart. I'm going to try a different program. It would be nice to see smartass as an option also

I had to completely wipe and reflash the alpha. It froze even after disabling setcpu
I unchecked the "set on boot" which seems to have fixed for now but did have to reinstall due to other so-called "fixes" I have found to be useless in "other" forums.

Your not alone...I had the same issue with Set CPU. I just have to leave the "Set at Boot" unchecked...and thus manually set it each time I reboot. but, hey...that's to be expected for an alpha version.

[Q] set cpu, on demand frequency stuck at max

hi
i have been running my streak at 1.19ghz for a week, with no probs, but today for about 40 mins the device was kind of stuttering, i checked my set cpu , and it was showing as constantly at at 1.19gz.
i have set cpu app, on demand frequency, min 245, max 1190, it was stuck running at max until i turned on my data and done a few google searches, went back to the setcpu app, and it was back to normal, at 245, only rising when i touch the screen
any ideas what it was???

Since it stopped when you turned on data I would speculate that an app was repeatedly trying to access the 'net or sync. You need to figure out which app wasn't playing nice (and nuke it). Of course it will be an app that you really need/want.

[Q] High consumption of battery

Hello
My Razr Xt910 batteries consumption is high
For example i'm in bed for 7 hours , It consumes 20%!
Idle consumption is too high
i'm using 2G
wifi and... is off
I close all programs
changed ROM
and .....
But this problem exists
In your opinion, why is this problem?
May be a hardware problem?
Sorry for bad English
Thanks
There's an app called Watchdog Task Manager that can monitor your apps and phone processes. That might be able to help you pin point if you've got a rogue app.
My girlfriend had to swap out her first Razr for a similar problem. Her phone would not last her an entire day with very light use. Using Watchdog Task Manager I was able to find that the suspend process was hanging and causing the battery to drain very rapidly.

Who can help me?

If you were rooted you may get rid of some apps. Like if you dont use backup asst.
It always runs in the back round. I talked to a rep the other day that said just force stop it. I said duh but it will re start itself. Make a list of what you see is running in the back round and and we can figure what program it is to see if we can freeze or get rid of it. Ahh I see you tried different Roms. You can use and app like NoBloat freeze. What Rom did you use? There is more information we need and can go from there.
Edit: How to use , go to system ,apps and look at running. Do you have email setup? How often is that set to refresh for email. So many things to look at.
Install Watchdog and agree to the license.
Set the default monitor to aggressive using the pulldown menu.
Hit the menu button on you phone and go to preferences.
Click "CPU threshold" and set it to 20%.
Click "Polling interval" and set it to 1 minute.
Click "Real time polling interval" and set it to 5 seconds.
Where it says "Include phone processes" make sure that is checked.
Click and check mark "Monitor phone processes" and "Display all phone processes"
Click on "System process CPU threshold" and set it to 40%
Now Watchdog will monitor all your apps and processes and will alert you if anything is going over the thresholds you have set. You can see what the culprit is under the alerts tab in the main menu.
Also, by going into the CPU tab on the app main menu, if you check "real time CPU" you can monitor your CPU usage in real time yourself. Anything in cyan is a background app/process, white is for system processes, and green is for apps/processes in the foreground.
I still use this app quite a bit especially if I install a few new apps, although I run it with the CPU polling interval at 10 minutes and the System process CPU threshold at 50% in my everyday usage to minimize CPU usage.
The suspend process that was giving my girlfriend problems on her phone can be seen while in the CPU tab if you check "real time CPU." I believe it will pop up after your phone is unlocked but should afterward stop and not consume any CPU. On my girlfriend's old phone this would not be the case. The suspend process would hang and constantly alert through Watchdog that it was exceeding the percentage threshold.
I'm not sure if this will be of any help and I apologize if it does not but it did help me. Good luck.

I dont have a gsm razr but the maxx cdma. Look at what the post above says and try it. What is the actual live of the battery after a day of use or how long does it last with normal usage?

ok
About 20 hours
and phone idle consumption is high
Watchdog alert:
suspend
Linux Process
43.4%
What's this?
What should I do?
You should use SetCPU and underclock your CPU so it runs slower but provides better battery life.
Switch the governor to the regular hotplug instead of mot_hotplug and under advanced change the sampling rate to 30000, up threshold to 95, down threshold to 50. Also in profiles set up profiles for various circumstances so if you're sleeping, you can make it so that if the screen is off you're limited to 300/600 mhz and so on.
I was using the ondemand governor earlier and then I stumbled upon some descriptions of them where they explained hotplug as being very similar to ondemand but having the capability to switch off the second core if there is not enough workload which I believe ondemand doesn't allow you to do.
Yesterday, I was at 65% battery left after 9 1/2 hrs of mild usage (2 phonecalls, 100 sms, bit of im'ing, light browsing and a couple of emails). Had the profile set so that it would limit clock at 600mhz when my battery is under 90% and at 800mhz when its above 90%.

Try the app juicedefender and see if that helps? a longshot but maybe its worth.
20 hours out of your phone but is that moderate usage? Forget about idle time. Do you not get regular usage out of your phone?
i have a Moto razr my own , and never noticed how much the battery would last.
of course it won't concern me much , cause i already prepared my self for a lousy battery back up with a 4.3 inch display and dual core cpu!!
i got your back on this whole messed up battery fiesta thing buddy ,
i'm gonna charge my razr up , and see how it's battery gonna react , if it's as bad as your device , chances are , it's a pretty common problem on every xt910 units , and you don't need to be worry about a thing.

after reading a few tips on the forums, I did the following:
1. installed SetCPU (paid) and made a custom "profile" that, when I turn the screen off, it reduces the CPU activity to the minimum (300)
2. I installed an app called "2x battery" (free) which will kill my data when the screen is off... I have it set up to where it will briefly enable my data connection every 15 min. to check for emails/texts, etc., and I also have it set up to where, if I have an active data connection (i.e. pandora) then it will not disable the data during that period.
3. With the 2x battery it also doubles as a manual task killer... or you can also install "memory booster" (lite = free)
4. set my wallpaper background to black
with these things I have really noticed an increase in battery power... try them and see what you think!

oh yeah, after you are at 100% on your battery and have unplugged it and plugged it back in a couple times and it still stays at 100, then reboot into recovery (while still plugged in) - go to advanced - wipe battery stats - reboot - unplug and run battery all the way down till it dies - charge up without unplugging. see if that helps, it will re-condition your battery.
