Hi I'm from israel I use bionix 1.91 on my vibrant
And still it takes long time to find sats - about 15-20 mins first time
Then after the 1st time it takes 10 secs
Untill I open the gps at indoor zone and then again I have to wait 10mins at sky zone to get sats

I agree. My GPS is miserable. Much, much worse than what it was stock. I didn't test JI6, but JFD worked well for me. I'm on bionix 1.8 at the moment.
Anything we can do to help?
go outside.
suddenly the GPS works.
Amazing.
WTF, gps doesn't work inside the building???? If youre using a gps inside a building, you fail, ps wrong section....

My Evo works inside a building. So did my Hero before that.
Well what I meant to say if you're using a gps to navigate inside a building, sgs phones have tons of gps issues, unlike most other phones

N so did my mytouch n g1 and my blackberry does as well. My Vibrant doesn't even lock outdoors. Just says temporarily unavailable

I'm on 1.9 and mine wont lock unless I run the get position test first

GPS just doesnt work good yet on anything from my knowledge.I was using my friends slide and it locked a little slower but stayed on 19 feet accuracy while vibrant started off on 50 feet and the arrow bounce around sometimes id rather have this GPS fixed rather then 2.2 at this point.
the only way a gps will work inside a building, is if you turn on wi-fi,, and your building have a wifi router... that way Maps will get your location based on the wifi router location... the GPS alone will not workin inside a building cuz there is no LoS to the satellites.
No my GPS does not work great out of the BOX, but I have found that using OTA JI6 and changing to GPS Settings to MSBased and SUPL to AutoConfig... I always get a GPS Fix withing seconds and with less than 10m accuracy...

True maybe with our vibrants, but my
G1 and mt3g work fine inside. Wifi off, network location off.. Just gps on.
Our phones do many things well...location is not one of them....

Enable AGPS (change mode from Standalone to MS Based).
Also, you can try enabling Skyhook to use WiFi.

How is the GPS in JI6. Is it perfect like in iphone and other devices or is it still jumping on the road.

Is this a question or a statement? I will try out the GPS today and see. I haven't tried it out since i flashed JI6.
The GPS is better but it is not 100%. Mine jumped off the road twice today and at least once the Map program stated that it'd lost GPS signal... My response to the loss of GPS signal was to reboot the phone...
Not perfect but then I'm okay with it... The apps are more stable than Bing was on my TouchPro 2...
My GPS has been working perfectly since updating. Just as good if not better than any other phone I have used.

No problems here with GPS. It is as you say 100%.
GPS sucks still. I couldn't get a lock while driving. When I'm not moving it'll take about 20seconds or so. But if I can't get a lock while in a moving car its pretty useless for me
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
the gps becomes better, but not perfect. sometimes it may take some time to access your location. i haven't tried it really outside.
Not as good as my old-and-gone G1, but at least it works now, which makes it better.
I'm sure everyone knows about the GPS bugs that plague the first generation Galaxy S. I've read the SGS 2 reviews and they said the GPS issues have been fixed, but can I get some opinions on whether anyone experienced any GPS issues? Is the GPS on the SGS 2 as accurate and good as the one on the iPhone 4?
Works fine. Faster lock than my IP4.
Its much faster than the Galaxy S1. I found the GPS to be close to useless on S1. On my S2 its close to perfect

Works great and picks up signals inside buildings.
I had the sgs1 for about 6 months and now the sgs2 for about 3 weeks. I was soooo disappointed with the first sgs and like you I was unsure if I wanted to give the 2 a try...
Well I read a bunch and it seems that most people are happy so I bought it...
I can say with out a doubt that the GPS is way better on the 2 than the sgs1. I could not use Google navigation at all with the sgs1... it was useless and could never lock on and would have me blocks away from where I was. I've used my sgs2 GPS with Google navigation on more than a dozen trips /drives and it has always been spot on and never had me in the wrong location.
I will say that lock times are very slow when Im driving

I run every other day for an hour or two, I use runkeeper, also when out hiking I use mmtracker to read my o's maps, I can safely say especially with runkeeper the gpx routes recorded through the SGS2 are far more accurate than the iphone4 even managing to stay accurate whilst running through the forest, actual initial cold starting is about the same if not slightly faster with the sgs2. Oh yes and practically every time I recorded a run with the iphone4 through a certain part of my forest run it would create a spike where I was apparently running at 250mph hmm not sure I am that fast, but the sgs2 always keeps an accurate smooth record, hope that helps
for me, flaky. some days i'll get a lock within a minute and then it's fine. this morn and yest - takes ages to get a lock.
basically, ymmv
Download FasterFix. You can choose from a list of servers. Choose the country closest to you or, if it is in the list, your own country. This way you'll 'half your fixtime' so it connects faster to GPS-Sat.
It's like using the aiding sensors (e.g. WiFi).
I get a fix in >10sec max.
Hope it helps.

i think gps on SG2 is far from perfect. It's "OK" but i had much better gps on my previous phone (HTC Hero)
What is the average time for a fix, for you guys?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Mine takes between 10 seconds and a minute. Sometimes it just sits there doing nowt lol.
Xperia X10 used to lock in 10 seconds every time, but the rest of that phone was slow lol
The only time I have ever had a problem getting a fix, I simply opened up google maps and it seemed to get a fix instantly then returned to my other gps application and all was ok.
First thing in the morning outside fix within a few seconds
Indoors sometimes can take a little longer, but never more than about 10 seconds
I use GPS a lot

I guess you said this to clarify that you've got good statistics, but a very interesting thing is that if you use the GPS often you likely get shorter fix time
The reason is that if you used the GPS recently (within hours) the cached GPS info is more accurate so the GPS doesn't need complete messsages to determine the position (it takes 30 seconds to send one complete position message from a satellite), and if you get interruptions you need to wait even longer, that is why it sometimes takes more than a minute to get a fix.
A-GPS also helps fix time in many cases.

Same thing happened to me.
Absolutely brilliant.
90% of the time it gets a lock within 30 secs , there's been sometimes when it needed a restart to get gps working properly but that's down to an app I was using previously which messed things up a bit, but on the whole I very happy with it.
The seamless integration with google maps is great. The external speaker is plenty loud & clear enough to hear the instructions but would like a less robotic sounding voice, re routing is quick & so far its been 100% reliable.
I have a built in gps system on my Land Rover but I almost always use the SGS2 gps over it. I used to have the SGS1 but the gps on that was a piece of crap. Gps on HTCs, etc, are probably just as good/better/worse, I don't know but one thing I'm sure about is the speaker volume would never be as loud & clear as the SGS2.
I get a lock up to 4m accuracy. My Captivate always had about 1500m accuracy and couldn't use it. Using navigation works perfectly on my sgs2

Excellent
Like others here, i suffered from the original SGS gps nightmare
SGS2 gps has been great for me, able to use google maps/navigation/RAC app all without problem
I didn't realise how much location based services I used untill the problems with SGS gps clearly highlighted this. Now, with my SGS2 all is good.
Is there an app like the LBStesmode for froyo that I can use to change/check the gps settings?
I have been looking but can not find info. I have not been addicted to flashing in some time so I am a little out of the loop. I know some issues just never pan out and the fact that the issue remains becomes common knowledge to the xda community.
But yea like I said I am a little out of the loop and am having issues finding a status on gps in Cyanogen.
Thank you
Sorry for asking a dumb question

By default it is broken. There is a flashable fix on here which makes the GPS work (18 feet accuracy lock within about 20 sec, amazing I know for this phone) but it also has a problem. It only works after the phone is freshly restarted. . . later on if you use the GPS it will never lock.
So to summarize:
1. GPS doesn't work out of the box
2. Fix makes the GPS lock on really fast but only works after a reboot. Cannot lock on any satellites later on.
There is now a fix (not official) for users like myself who have an EXTERNAL gps puck for cm7. I bought a used bt359 off ebay for very little money and this seems to be the best solution as we dont know we will EVER get true drivers for gps on vibrant.
Thank you guys

I have the simply honey v5 rom. First GPS settings were wrong (mSassisted and such). GPS works only once as said. Compass doesnt work at all and it doesnt turn off the compass once you are done. It eats up the battery! Basically opening gmaps or any app that uses gmaps is not practical due to battery drainage.
Hello
Is it only me or I'm having issues with GPS takes a lot of time to fix and also the position is far beyond invalid
It used to be so good with my x10(the only thing I feel it lags on my s2) I'm a traveller and I find Google maps much useful and I'm lost without it. Can anyone help?
Also I've tried changing ndp using fasterfix from the market. Any help would be appreciated

Am using sgs2 in delhi..n i have absolutely no complaints..gps is smooth as butter and took me to weirdest of places in those galis near nizammudin station too.
And also FYI my s2 takes about 3-5 seconds to catch a gps signal while first starting the map application.

Nope, I'm in Bangalore and GPS is working perfectly. Super fast lock on (usually less than 10 seconds), solid stability, all well.

When you bought the phone and got it home did you take the phone outside and wave to the man in the satellite to let him know you should be on his connection list .

Well problem for me too..takes around 5 to 7 mins to get a lock...once it does its fine though...m on stock ke8...should rooting or updating software improve this?

Check your A-GPS server. I had very poor performance using the normal A-GPS location servers but then changed it to xtra1.gpsonextra.net using FasterFix and now it locks much much quicker and the accuracy has improved (my location is no longer 20 meters away from where I actually am).
Hi,
I am KI3 and lives in chennai...
i have no issues with GPS...its gets a better accuracy like 3-4 mtrs outside my apartment.....inside my home, its kind of Ok, but i will live with it...why i need gps inside my home
and i always use directions>maps whenever i want to goto some place and till now my SGS2 baby it never let me down....she will come and direct me whereever i want to go....
may be try flashing KI3.....
Gps works awesome for me in delhi.no issues at all

Hi all.
I updated my Olleh 2.3.3 to Longhorn 2.9.3 Updated 9-5-12 yesterday.
I have few problems now. One of the major ones is GPS showing wrong location. Basically when it can't get a proper fix it fixes itself with 0.000 x 0.000 witch of course is by Africa ant stays there (I'm from UK). Olleh 2.3.3 at least was telling me that it can not get proper fix or was staying at last known position which was much more convenient.
Do you have any answer for that?
Cheers.
Hi there I use an app called fasterfix its free from market it sorted out for me

I tried Faster GPS, Faster Fix, GPS Status. None of them works.
Don't get me wrong. Outside GPS works great. It gets fix quickly and stays fixed. It just when I'm in the building instead of using last known position it takes me straight to Africa.

if you dont realize it yet.. gps is never meant to be inside building... dont blame the gps if it sends you to africa...
by the way.. longhorn 2.9.3 gps module usually takes time before it corrects itself out.. usually approx 30 ~ 120 seconds...
the first few seconds always a null fix...
Make sure that the internal GPS is selected from the Location menu under settings.
I installed DSC Phoenix kernel yesterday and it fixed my problem. No more trips to Africa. When it can not get a fix it simply tells that it can not, instead of fixing at 0.0000 x 0.0000. It's important when you use apps like "Friday" which counts the amount of miles you moved during the day. Imagine the statistics.Tens of thousands of miles daily
