Hi. I have searched for an answer to my issue but no luck so far...basically, my Xperia X10i does not sleep (screen stays on) following a missed call. It places a significant drain on my battery should I not observe the missed call soon after. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I have never experienced that problem myself. Are you using the stock launcher and lockscreen? It could be an application you installed that is causing the issue.

90% of all problems I've come across have been due to task killers being set to autokill things.. which messes the phone up.. Best trying without one.. or only using one to kill user installed apps... make sure to "ignore" systems apps/ tasks.

Thank you for this useful information. I do not have any task killer installed but as you suggested it might be worth having a task killer that would kill any user installed apps. Is there any particular task killer that you would recommend for me to do this? Many thanks. Scott.

And you are using a task killer/ram optimization app why? Android will kill apps when RAM is low, and why would you need so much free ram?
Please correct me if I misunderstood though. Some devs prefer strict though I believe.

This isn't like task killer app... its not like once of those app u click kill all apps.
I'm just trying apps to get the best battry life out of my phone.
This app actually tweak stuffs unlike other apps. It helps u to get the battery life out of your phone I believe, if you can use it right.
So I was just asking if anyone is using this app and getting better battery life
Im just going to delete this app for now since I don't know how to use it and its draining my battery. If anyone is getting better battery life when using custom roms with it let me know.

its his phone to do with as he pleases...but to answer your question, some apps continuously run in the background (even after you "close" them), and there is absolutely no need for them. They chew up RAM and battery. I use a moderate combination of AutoMemory Optimizer, AutoStarts, and a conventional task killer. I keep my RAM squeaky clean cause thats how i want it. I dont like my OS waiting for it to get to an unnecessary low point before it starts "killing"

Auto killer ... is a tool used to enhance android's internal memory manager ... Unlike its name its not a task killer .. again you can use it to tell android when and how much memory to reclaim ..... I use the preset 'aggressive ', but to fully understand the settings I would suggest you go the the dev's website, he has a lot of useful info on there .....

one will argue that it saves battery my limiting application runtime. another will argue that it takes up more battery because the app keeps starting and stopping. Thats why you should always use a program like "Autostarts", which prevents certain apps from EVER opening in situations that they dont need to be open. If youre getting into task management, that should be your first step before anything else, cause that DOES save your battery.
I've some apps downloaded, and they keep running in background draining my battery and data.
I've been using task killer, advanced task killer to kill those apps. But I see them running again.
None of them use services.
Some of the apps are ebay, maps, download manager etc
I do this because I need to save the battery.
Any help ?

Thats exactly what I am saying, and so do all of the developers AND the folks who make Android. Task Killers are not recommended on newer builds of the OS.
When you kill things in the b/ground (which are doing nothing) all you are doing is making you phone re-open them, hence killing battery.

Can't you use titanium backup to freeze them?
I dont have the pro version. 6 bucks is too expensive. Any hack to make the pro version work.

If you're phone is rooted, App Freezer in the market brings this feature to the table for free. A tip...
So been a time i always woundered why so many apps start without me calling them? Also why do they appear on afvanced task killer app and not the phone one? And still why they open or whatever if i dont call them. It fcks battery life -.-

Background tasks have their life of themselves, use auto memory manager to limit them, or autostarts to block them.
These are freewares and can be found at google play.

There is no noticeable battery drain with such apps running because they don't use CPU time. Stopping the processes however forces app or process restart which take up some CPU time, and drain your battery more than if you just left it there.

Just about to say this
The processes can use memory but the android system could stop them if it was running out. Make sure there isn't processes of apps you arnt using, uninstall these.

Google drive never runs for me. Try turning off the sync for it. Then it will just sync manually.

This is true, which is why I recommended autostarts, prevent it instead!
But a reason why background tasks matter is that they tend to hog up ram, which leads to slower performance.
I know there's a lot of battery threads out there, I've been reading most of them but I got no help from them.
I recently updated my phone from ICS to JB, and now I'm running NeatROM and Siyah Kernel. And since the update I've noticed an abnormal battery drain. Just now, in 20 minutes, it has lost 3%.
Now, I'm not new to smartphones, so before you say, yes, I have done all the possible things to prevent the drain: Greenify, Wifi OFF, GPS OFF, Sync OFF, all OFF, battery saver mode, minimum brightness...
Actually now I'm using a generic 4300mAh battery from a friend and I only get a little more than a day. I'm using the phone but not in a hard way. Minimun time on wifi, some messages, one or two calls, and some internet surfing, not much.
Is it normal all this? Am I going mad? If you guys need any info/screenshots to maybe identify something please tell.

Usual fixes are go back to fully stock and see if it is still the same, if yes then replace the battery with a quality make, if still the same then probably a hardware fault.

well then, try some battery monitor and check what's using the battery. use some task manager like ES Task Manager(for eg.) and stop all the background apps and manage start up apps. :good:

I've experienced almost the same issue, but I've installed some custom roms.
I am a fan of Wannam.
Try to install one of his roms (the latest) and check if that helps.

i found Google maps to be the biggest drainer... and if like me its installed to /system then greenify doesn't hibernate it... and those Damn network location updates nuke the battery in no time... convert to user app using titanium backup... Or remove from /system and reinstall from market... my battery lasts nearly two days after moving all Google bloat... greenify puts it all to sleep and phone doesn't wake up for anything except calls and texts... brill :thumbup:

Try using wake lock detector it really gives a nice info on what process is taking your battery .
You could also try changing the cpu scaling logic. This seems to give the best battery life enhancement.

I think the battery is going better now. I wiped the internal sdcard and now I have 70% with 8 hours of phone. Is that normal?

I mean with stock battery. Also, I limited the CPU from 1400 to 900 long time ago.
I have also extracted the external sd because lately it was giving problems like removing and mounting itself a lot...
OK, so I got like 25 hours with normal-low use. Is that average?

Use Boeffla-Kernel. Best kernel in my opinion. Close to stock, more stable, more batteryfriendly Kernel with customization abilities compared to Stock-Kernel.
And-the music- much better with this Kernel and 'eargasm' Equalizer-setting *-*

I tried that but I didn't notice any battery improvement. Also, Voodo Sound is so much better, in my opinion.
Without a custom kernel you can not apply any undervolting or change the cpu scaling logic Max frequency etc.
Try a custom kernel again but this time dont just leave it with the default settings . Change them . Remember you can always install voodoo sound on top of any other sound mod.

Current try I only use greenify but u feel like with myself ope I got so many different apps it would be beneficial to.kill the ones I'm not currently try using to give more battery and speed. Does android do this by itself and therefore I do not need one or? I did try advanced task killer but when I kill the apps the come right back. Since then I have restored and did not install ATK.

That's up to you. Android is pretty good at dumping old apps to free up ram. What a lot of people over look is that the android system keeps apps in memory to make them load quicker when you open them again. The only thing I really do is just clear my apps from the recent screen every once in a while.

Let Android manage things, it's a lot smarter about it than we are.
The only caveat I have in this area is an app called Greenify. I'm using it to make it easier to stop a few apps from running in the background when I'm not using them - in particular an app called "Viki" (provides access to TV/movies from Asia) that is endlessly active in the background for no good reason and keeps my phone from getting into deep sleep. So I tell the Greenify app to hibernate it when I'm not using it, and deep sleep is back and battery life is good again.
But I agree strongly that using "active" task managers that try to manage your apps for you are not necessary, and can be detrimental on Android.

As he stated in the OP, he already users greenify.
I agree, task killers are stupid. The only other thing I would recommend besides that is android firewall and an automation app like tasker
