So, I decided to root my phone and put J16ROM Bionix 1.7 OCUV Voodoo J16. I back up my old ROM just in case. After successfully flashing the new rom, I was really happy with how fast my vibrant became w/o lag. However, I forgot to write down contact info and my password from password safe. So, I was kinda glad that I backed up old ROM. I tried to recover my old rom from ROM manager and thats where my phone gave up on me. It was recovering just fine until it hit data session. It has been there since yesterday and has not moved. I turned it off this morning and it automatically turned back on and went into recovery mode.
So, as of right now, I have access to phone recovery boot menu and clockwork recovery menu. I tried doing the same recovery method but it froze on me at the same exact spot. Did I mess up my phone???
Did you disable Voodoo before you tried to go back to stock?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
i would say no, thankfully if you can get to recovery your phone is far from dead, but you should prob flash a stock rom through odin, READ Bionix fix for flashing without disabling voodoo, let me know if you need more info. but you should be alright, remember that your stuff (contacts, etc) are backed up to gmail.
You didn't disable Voodoo before trying to do the restore... did you.
This is the only way to save it now, good luck.
Did You Flash Something Before Disabling Voodoo? 2 Fixes to Help You Out. So you forgot to disable the voodoo lagfix before you flashed a new rom and now you're getting an erro you'll be good as rain...or something like that Fix 1 1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file. 2. Extract the files. 3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode. 4. load the PIT file in appropriate area. 5. load the .tar file in the PDA area. 6. DO NOT check 're-partition' 7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DO s what's supposed to happen 8. Now, pull your battery. 9. Download the 'True stock 2.1 firmware for the vibrant'. 10. Extract the files. 11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode. 12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area. 13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box. 14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine! BAM Fix 2: (use only if you know how to use adb commands) 1. Place the 'disable-lagfix' file in your sdk>tools directory 2. Get into clockwork recovery like you normally would 3. Follow these adb commands to push the 'disable-lagfix' file to you sdcard>voodoo adb push disable-lagfix /sdcard/voodoo 4. File should now be on your sdcard in your voodoo folder. 5. Reboot phone and with luck, you should hear Linda the robot telling you your file system is being con rfs 6. Because your system directory has already been wiped, you'll still get a black screen when you reboot system is back to rfs. Just pull the battery, and reflash whatever rom you want. Then reboot again.
Yea I did not disable Voodoo. I thought I would not need to do that since I am going back to original stock. Can you explain it to me how to get back to stock version and how to disable voodoo from recovery mode? Thanks!
read the first page of Bionix thread, it explains everything.
OP this is posted in the wrong section . Belongs in in Q&A .
sorry.. I was panicing and did not know where to post it obviously. One last question, how to get my phone to download mode.
turn phone off, insert usb , wait for battery to start charging, hold down both volume up and down, press power button until screen goes black, then let go of power button but keep holding vol up and down, you'll then see the yellow digger.

Man.. I feel bad to keep asking questions. My computer won't recognize the phone even though my phone is in download mode.
disconnect usb, open Odin, load .pit and .tar, then reconnect usb, com should appear.
I mean Odin won't recognize my phone even though I was following the step
are you using odin 1.0 or 1.3? 1.0 i remember had issues recognizing the device, 1.3 works flawlessly. also, do you have the usb drivers installed? everything can be found in the Vibrant "Bible".

Thanks I am trying it right now with odin 1.3.
i had to install drivers to get odin 1.3 to recognize the phone, sounds like you need to do the same
Yes, install the samsung drivers, then do odin
Seems like 1.3 is doing the trick for me.. Its going!!!
Man.. I can't seem to download truestock 2.1 firmware for vibrant.. Anyone can upload it for me? Thanks.
yeah i noticed a few days ago that the links were dead, i have it in my downloads.......ok, uploading it now, will provide link when done.
Flash Eugene's Froyo that won't Brick... it will repartition your phone and get rid of everything, including bad kernels... then flash back down to JFD...
Or send your phone to me... $20 bucks since it's a brick...

You may have tried this but these are the steps that eventually worked for me.
1. Put your phone in download mode by plugging it in and then holding Vol Up+Down and Power. As SOON as the screen goes black release power but NOT Vol Up+Down.
2. Launch Odin
3. Unplug your phone.
4. Load the pit and pda files into odin.
5. Plug your phone back in. You should now see one of the small blocks turn yellow and show you the com port. If not, something is wrong with your drivers.
6. Click start. If it flashes, great. If it hangs at File analasys then repeat 1-5.
6a. If Odin hangs at cache.rfs then move on to 6b.
6b. Unplug your phone (Odin will say it was removed) and remove the battery. DO NOT SHUT DOWN ODIN!!!!!!
6c. Put the battery back in and plug it back into your computer and put it back into download mode using step 1.
6d. Press start on Odin and it should now flash.
Again, this worked for me, it may have been a fluke and I'm not willing to try it again. Good luck!!!
Does not boot!
What if the phone does not boot. All happened after I tried to flash the kernel back to the stock one. USB plugged in, battery is fully charged- still no sign of life. Any solution for that? No recover or download mode!

What have you done to put it in download mode? You should power off your phone, plug it into your computer. It should then enter the charge mode where you see a picture of your battery being charged (or if you were like me and screwed up somewhere you may see a little picture of a phone, computer and yellow triangle in between them). If you get either of those then press and hold all three VOL up, VOL down and power. AS SOON AS the screen goes black release ONLY Power and it should go into download mode.
If you plug your phone into your computer (powered off) and nothing happens then you just be bricked. Call TMO and play dumb and hopefully get a replacement.
Ok,
The_Chrome_Coyote really helped me!!!! Thank you so much and im back up and running. There was something missing from the original tutorial, not that we should be spoon fed but I didn't have the WinRAR program on my pc and didn't know I needed to extract anything. I was looking for exe. for it to be a program and just open it. It's a little more complicated than that. I added my additions in BOLD
The_Chrome_Coyote's Original post to me:
Odin isnt that hard, its just REALLY picky about working.
Firstly you need to download the Samsung drivers for your OS which can be found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
added:
Second you need to make sure you download WinRAR x86 (32 bit) 3.93 (google it and you should be able to get it) otherwise if your pc doesn't have a program to recognize rar and tar files, you are out of luck.
then read this thread from JAC:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
1. Now, Extract ODIN from its .rar and place the .exe on your desktop
2. Extract the .pit file from its.rar and place that on your desktop
3. Place the JFD .tar file on your desktop but DO NOT EXTRACT
Now you can use ODIN
4. Start ODIN Odin3. [Android + SLP], through ODIN select the .pit file
5. Hit "PDA" button, and through ODIN select the .tar file
6. Plug your TURNED OFF PHONE into the USB cable
7. Wait for the Battery/ charging indicator to start
8. HOLD VOL UP+ VOL DOWN+ POWER, as soon as the screen goes black RELEASE POWER, and continue to HOLD VOL UP+ VOL DOWN Until it enters download mode. Which should happen quickly and looks like a men at work highway sign.
9. If a COM port has turned Yellow in ODIN, then the device has been recognized. If it hasnt, unplug and plug your phone back in.
10. Dont select any options other than whats set at default.
11. Hit Start and be patient, takes me maybe 5 minutes to get back up and running.
NOTE: If you do not see a blue progress bar on the phone's screen after a minute;
11a. Turn your phone off by pulling the battery.
11b. CLOSE ODIN
11c. Start at step 4 again.
ODIN needs to be open and ready to flash before the phone is plugged in, in my experience. Its very picking about this, and not everyone has this issue, but I did and following all these steps helped me flash my phone more times than I can count the other day haha.
Hope this helped! and your $20, donate it to Wes, JAC, or Eugene to keep them making great stuff for our phone.

Same thing happened to mine when i tried odin. Now all i get sometime when it come on. are 7 rows of text that seems to be a code on screen in amber. Ishipped back 2 samsung. Since t-mobile won't take it after 14 days.
ok I screwed up guys.
I installed ROM manager from the market, flashed clockwork, it asked me if I wanted to partition and I said yes.
Now I just get a black screen at boot. I've managed to run odin and it says success. But I still just get a black screen after boot.
Little help?
I do have to say that if YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO EXTRACT A COMPRESSED FILE (RAR, ZIP,ETC) YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS FLASHING YOU'RE PHONE!! Odin or otherwise.
I am not being mean but at least stick to update.zip files flashed through recovery and make sure you read reviews of other users first, and understand the instructions completely.

If you can see the samsung logo you are fine. Load up recovery and try a full wipe first. If that fails then you can odin back to stock and root again.

1. If you have questions, there is a q and a forum for this device!!!!!!
2. THIS IS THE DEV PART OF THE FORUM. IE FOR DEVS POSTING STUFF FOR THE PHONE!!!!!
3. Learn how to Google. Not that hard. Example, you don't know what the *.rar extension is. GOOGLE IT!! Google knows everything.
4. If you don't have basic android or computer skills, don't try anything stupid. You do have a chance to brick your phone, even the pros like cyanogen have bricked their phones.
5. Don't offer cash for someone to fix your phone. Keep it in qna and some one will help you. Save your cash for the development that work hard on making these things work.
6. Can a mod please move this thread to qna.
7. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. USE THE SEARCH FINCTION BUILT ONTO THE FORUMS. IT WILL SAVE YOU TIME AND THEN YOU WILL NOT LOOK LIKE NOOBS THAT JUST GOT THIS PHONE BECAUSE IT HAD AVITAR IN THE BOX!!!!!

I FOUND A SOLUTION TO THE CACHE.RFS PROBLEM!!
http://www.fractionalphones.com/?p=121
I flashed a rom without voodo lagfix disabled so it messed everything so I reflashed the rom and it worked fine at first, everytime it turned off i had to re-flash a rom, so I decided to odin so it would work nomal and after the odin the phone boots then ges to black screen and only the touch buttons light up. I cant even get into recovery mode, only download. The phone just plays a little circle when trying to boot now. Also before I odined I formated the internal memory through setting-sd.. does that make a difference? Someone please help im terrified its a gonner..
Next time, these types of threads belong in Q&A.
Here's the fix I found in the BIonix thread. You were close by trying to use Odin, but you may want to try it in this order
"Did You Flash Something Before Disabling Voodoo? 2 Fixes to Help You Out.
So you forgot to disable the voodoo lagfix before you flashed a new rom and now you're getting an error, similar to the one posted below. Even Odin won't allow you to flash back to stock. Well, pay close attention and with some luck, you'll be good as rain...or something like that.
Fix 1:
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
BAM!
Fix 2: (use only if you know how to use adb commands)
1. Place the 'disable-lagfix' file in your sdk>tools directory
2. Get into clockwork recovery like you normally would
3. Follow these adb commands to push the 'disable-lagfix' file to you sdcard>voodoo
adb push disable-lagfix /sdcard/voodoo
4. File should now be on your sdcard in your voodoo folder.
5. Reboot phone and with luck, you should hear Linda the robot telling you your file system is being converted back to rfs.
6. Because your system directory has already been wiped, you'll still get a black screen when you reboot, but your file system is back to rfs. Just pull the battery, and reflash whatever rom you want. Then reboot again."
Any of the above files can be found in the Vibrant bible thread.

My Vibrant is still beside Samsung ... but I aspect, that they will refuse to repair a Vibrant out of US.... >> no words about this one -- international company and they refuse to fix a broken Mobile, because is not from the local market >> IT'S A MOBILE!!! If I received it broken back ( but must pay for nothing , I need to reached the DL Mode. This is the only one, what I haven't try... (Recovery Mode not reachable) DL-Mode - no luck till now
All you need to do is odin stock and if you get the black screen install the last kernel you were running, this happened to me back when I first got my phone using voodoo ocv4, you didn't brick so no worries.

Please post questions in the Q&A sub-forum instead of the development sub-forum. This thread has been moved.
Thank you
P.S. I hope you get the issues worked out.
Try the following: Get an odin version of voodoo*** (if you can't find one, it's not too hard to create one, let me know if you need help figuring out how to make one), then flash it. Hopefully from there you can get to the recovery, then adb push the disable lagfix file, then reboot the phone with the disable lagfix file in it until it tells you it's completed, then reodin to a working ROM.
***It's important that you odin in a working VOODOO kernel.
Ok i now Odined True 2.1 stock and it works however every time the phone turns off a little circle just keeps spinning there. and i cant do anything i try putting it into recovery but it goes straight to Download mode.
And it also says usb connected when it's not connected to anything..
I had the same issue with Voodoo, I fixed it flashing Eugenes Froyo that doesn't brick then back to Stock 2.1, Worked wonderfully. Its usually the fix for people that Soft Brick from Voodoo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740558
Do those steps then flash back to Stock 2.1 afterwards with Odin. Hope this helps.
Thanks ill try when I get home. Ive done the froyo to true 2.1 steps and I still can't restart or it screws everything up and I have to re-odin

Yeah for a little it was completely broke. I held volume buttons for like 2 minutes straight and it finally went into download mode. I've just got a rom flashed right now and im too scared to turn it off to see if it will work. Every time I do it, i get the little circle thing like its plugged in but it does nothing. Ill just leave it on till I find a solution.. No matter what thing I odin it doesnt fix the circle of death
Hmm. That's strange. Did you check repartition after flashing back from froyo?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yea I did. No results. It's my buddies vibrant it's not even mine
Searching was a mess of incoherent threads (or maybe I don't know how to search correctly).
I am on Bionix V and with voodoo lagfix from Nero V5. I want to Odin back to stock and apply the 2.2 update. I am giving my phone to my dad and he wants it stock as a rock.
I disabled the lagfix via CWM and let it do its thing. When it booted back up, the file structure was different (obviously) and all of my files were "gone"...which I didn't care about since I already backed everything up.
The problem is my PC would NOT see the Vibrant via ADB. In fact, I couldn't even get it to show up as a removable drive. I re-enabled Voodoo, file structure came back, and bam, my PC recognizes it as usual.
What am I doing wrong?
Well if your gonna go back to stock the disable voodoo in cwm , reboot and let it convert back to rfs and boot up. Hold your power button to get the Power options screen and go to Download Mode. Open ODIN, plug your phone into your pc and add the 512.pit to PIT and your .tar flash file to PDA, makes sure repartition is not check and you have a yellow COM port showing and hit Start.

So manually placing it in download mode is the missing link?
I always did
adb reboot download
to put in download mode before.
I was able to put vib into recovery and use aio toolbox to flash back to stock but, after that everything is working except when the phone turns off after a minute or so of no touching is where it get crazy... I push in the power button to turn back on but no go... So what i did was to connect the vib back to usb and it comes on and i can slide the lock and i,m back to home screen and it does the same dam thing when plugged to the usb... After a minute of no touching it goes dark and i try to turn back on but nothing... I disconnect the usb and it turns on and back and forth... What can i do to fix this problem??? Someone said that i need to untethered the phone i don,t know if that,s true but, if you know whats going on please help...
Also thanks nomad for pointing me in the right direction... Jig worked... Got into download mode and got it flashed back to stock but none of my buttons are working to turn the phone back on once it goes off... Any ideal nomad???
You may have not done the complete Odin is all i can think of
If you have stock you can ignore the Eugene's froyo that does not brick, though i do it anyway as it seem to rid the phone of left over data ghosts
Here is the sequence:
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Load the JFD rom for the vibrant'.
15. Then, root the phone and you can flash your new Rom.
doing this method will everything back to normal and the phone will work just like it did right out of the box
Thanks for reply oka1... First thing is where can i find eugene file...

Ok those instructions are screwy...turn oden on then hold both volume up and volume down and plug vibrant to computer still holding both volumes your phone should automaticaly start in download mode...and oden will recognize your phone as com x ....x representing some random #....from there add the pit and tar files then hit start...good to go
Ps while oden is loading you will see a blue rectangle that says reset or reseting....wait till it is green and says pass.
Pm me if you have any other probs, ill do my best to help you out
Bionix-V 1.3 w/a Splash of Color
Get into recovery like caricj5 said remove the battery then holding volume up and down at the same time plug in the computer to the usb already hooked up to the computer Also use the Odin 1.81 vwesion Then follow these instructions:
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Load the JFD rom for the vibrant'.
15. Then, root the phone and you can flash your new Rom.
doing this method will get everything back to normal and the phone will work just like it did right out of the box
Thanks guys, i couldnt get it into download mode, around the verge of giving up (10th time) it worked. From there Oden then failed with the packages. Unplugged and replugged the phone and that it worked. now running bionix 1.3.1, funny thing is it still shows that AT&T logo when booting up.
Try reflashing JUST the kernel that came with bionix 1.3.1. I think it's overstock 1.4 and see if the at&t logo still comes up. I'm not sure if a reboot or wiping dalvik will fix that? Somebody correct me, if i'm wrong. Good luck.
EDIT: bionix 1.3.1 came with kb1/voodoo so i guess try flashing overstock 1.4. then if you prefer kb1 download just the kernel and flash back.

he has to reflash the sbl.bin for the vibrant to get that screen off of there.
