Of course, follow my guide very carefully!!
*Disclaimer, this will void any warranty*
1.) Go Buy an Epic 4G
2.) Rip out the guts of your Vibrant & Epic 4G
3.) Swap the guts.
4.) Turn on.
5.) You are now 4g Capable
Tada!!
NOO JK, Don't do that.
Serious answer is NO, you cannot have 4g..
*chuckle* win or fail, no one will be able to disagree that the results of this mashup would be epic!

Well sorry, But media hub isn't free.. Neither is basic cable
great response master, or if he wants to keep his warranty he can do this
1. Go to clear.com/4g
2. sign up and get "Clear Spot 4G"
3. there, 4g coverage for your phone
My vibrant gets faster data than my Evo did anyway... Don't know why you'd want to downgrade.
Idk if I'm wrong but when I bought my samsung vibrant, the guy at the store said when tmobile gets there hspa+, the vibrant would be able to get it. But I'm probaly wrong.

It will not be able to take full advantage of it. Vibrant supports up to 7.2mbps and T-Mobile HSPA+ is up to 14. Although standard 3G is 3.6 so we are getting faster speeds from HSPA+ just not the full potential.

Depending on what you consider 4G....

4g is a hardware difference, not software. The regular vibrant does not support 4g, but it does benefit from it since T-mo's towers are updated, therefore putting out more data, resulting in you being able to reach max DL speeds - hopefully 6 to 7 megs, which in my opinion is plenty.

The vibrant 4g will give us all kinds of goodies. We'll see.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I was thinking that the ONLY thing we need to do to get 4G from our 3g+ vibrant is to flash the 4G vibrant modem , when we have one.
The phone itself is locked to what frequencies it can use as well as what technology by the antenna, AND the modem. T-Mo is NOT going to spend millions on new technology that half of its phones cannot utilize, hence why our 3G vibrants have access to "3.5G", which is technically "HDPA", and not "HSDPA", right? The new 4G tech is all ip based, so all the phone would need is a properly encoded modem file to get it to work.
I mean think about it guys, does anyone own an analog race scanner? If yes, have you ever tried to tune into the digital frequencies? You get a modem-like digital noise out of it, because your radio lacks the software to decode the signal properly.
It sounds plausible in theory I suppose, but I can guarantee you this, IF it's possible xda-dev WILL be the first to know, I know I'll be trying it as soon as I see a modem upload!
Master tweeted that there were several 4G icons in the KA6 leak... Curious if it's the Vibrant + leak?

Flashable via ODIN or CWM.
As far as the 4G, I hope someone else who has played with the KA6 can opine. I literally just flashed the new modem like 2 hours ago. I do not notice an increase at my desk here at work, but I have not gotten to play with it outside where the signal is stronger. Fastest I've seen on my phone is with JL1, and that was just under 6mbps down practically standing underneath a tower.

as far as 4g goes, theres been a rumor that the chip in the vibrant is capable of handling 14.4mbps but is soft capped. theres a whole thread abt this rumor. mainly someone did a complete tear down of the i9000 and looked up the chips part # and specs. since the i9000 and vibrant is almost identical, its believed that the vibrant may also contain the same chip. whether this is true or not,no one will know until someone does a complete tear down of a vibrant. as of now,the vibrant can only go up to 7.2mbps .
I want to flash but I think I am gonna wait til some1 can verify thats its faster and everything.

Thank you for your concern eltormo. I'm sorry that you are upset about T-Mobile's ability to throttle your services at their whim. Your contract Terms & Conditions are open-ended, leaving tmo the ability to provide you as little data as they want. You technically are not being capped. It's frustrating to all of us, but as it stands, it is still the best offering out there.
All that being said, your post is irrelevant to this thread topic, so please take it back to the [THINK TANK] thread you were on earlier if you would like to complain about throttling.
In case you lost your way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872570
^^ that's funny!
I dont see how the speed of what you download effects, how much you download? Cap or throttle... Blah blah, more speed is a good thing. I for one hope that the vibrant does have the 4g chip, not just for obvious reasons, but it would be awesome to see what would happen in the general section. :gets popcorn ready: Then again I'm not holding my breathe.
Ok, totally nervous and anxious noob here. I had a question about the capabilities of the modem in this phone. My coworker has a captivate, and he told me all about the stuff you do here, and how he upgraded his modem to 4g. Is the vzw variant capable of the same? I've been reading the threads for a few weeks now, trying to figure out what to get, and now I'm just confused with the whole process, but that's a topic for another day.
Thanks.

Not. . . . . . . . . . . .
No.
The captivate can do HSPA which is all of the sudden be marketed as 4G (as HSPA+) but only up to the device limit of 7M.
That is one of ATT/TMO's ways of saying 4G.
VZN is using LTE which is different from their current CDMA#K which means phones can not take advantage of it.

Yeah, no. The "4G" he is talking about is not really 4G. It's a fake 4G.

Hahahah, this. +1
HSPA and LTE are different tech, just like CDMA#k and HSPA. HSPA has the same speed capability as LTE but the drasticly different delivery mechanism makes it a loser for these kind of tests.
LTE is the true future tech even though it doesn't meet 4G guidelines. Future HSPA evolutions are just going to be like new and improved satellite TDMA systems.... larger pipe for more terminals... but dont ldt ths customer know how many terminals there are.

If I had my choice, I would've gone with AT&T for numerous reasons, but given my circumstance, VZW was my only option. Big Red has a track record of making things difficult for the end user (like upgrading phones). I love this phone, and the service is good, but it's a bit discouraging that I'll have to wait 2 years to get a faster phone when this one has capable hardware being held back by them.
Sorry for the rant. Basically, I'm anxiously awaiting the day when I can cut the bloat and let this thing fly. Keep up the awesome work, and I'll keep reading until I get all the pieces together.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
The captivate doesn't do 4g..the guy just has a theme that changed his icon to show 4g when he still has 3g. And neither phone has the hardware to run 4g.
At&t has **** for service...hence the REAL reason iPhone is with vzw now. I will never pay for at&t again.
So has anyone found a way to enable 4G on the vibrants?
Thanks
not gonna happen. our radio physically can't (wasn't built to) handle that speed.
I have two friends one with a galaxy 4g the other with a infuse 4g and my vibrant is faster than both of them. They both get around 2.5 down and 1 up. I rountinly get 3.5-6 down and 1.5-3 up on my vib......im good with vib...then again their phones are stock so maybe their not being utilized to full potential
Thanks for the quick reply guys.

3.5g has been lumped into normal 3g. 3.5g is the speeds at about 3mbps and up. And you automatically get that when in the range of a tower that supports that speed.

No one has made a mod because the 4g modem is a surface mount device, and more than likely isn't anywhere near the same shape nor will it likely be the same pinout as the vibrant 3g modem.

Found that out the hard way a long time ago
Tmobile has changed a lot, they are just flat turning into thieves with a business license now. Never switch to a carrier just for the devices they can run, that is just plain not smart, at all.
I am not trying to be offensive, I do have your best interest in mind. With how fast devices are pushed out, there will be one that is better and what you want in 6 months time. So it doesn't make sense to move to a carrier for the phones. You will just get yourself locked into some contract that (Tmobile especially) keeps updating to strip more freedom and cost to to you.

Double check on the actual bands it supports; 3G especially considering the fact that tmob uses their own 3G unlike most other GSM carriers.
Aka it should work fine... BUT it might be stuck on EDGE at all times. Not cool.

Check out the company called light squared and search it with sprint in the same search. Sprint is paying out the ass to make it work.
