Hi I just bought Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant a few days ago and unlocked it.
Now the problem is that I have not been able to figure out my Google account. Due to this, I have not been able to log into Android Market. So, I am sitting around doing nothing with my Vibrant as I can't download any app or game...
When ever I try to log in, it gives me the following error:
"This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care."
I am using Wifi to connect to internet. I have confirmed Internet access by browsing. I can access every site and also use gmail in a web browser.
I read somewhere that a hard reset may work, but that didn't work either. I cannot contact T-Mobile as I don't live in USA and have an unlocked phone.
So, I am in a pretty helpless condition, please help me figure things out in this wonderful world of Android...
Thanks a lot!

Why dont you install a custom rom and give it a try?
I am new to Android and I am not confident enough to try a custom ROM yet... I will consider it down the road but for now I need to get into the Android Market...
Any help will be greatly appreciated...
Thanks.
Do you have a data package? Correct me if i'm wrong, I believe the first inital android account setup must be done through the network...
I tried with my network service as well. By the way I am not in USA and am using the mobile on a different network. I have used WiFi and Network EDGE service to connect without any success.
I never got the chance to setup my account for the 1st time the mobile was turned on, as I bought it from someone else (who most probably skipped that part)...
Its becoming really frustrating, as I use the phone for calls and messaging and that's all... I tried the hard reset but even that didn't give me the initial setup thingy...
Any idea or suggestion is appreciated...
Thanks a lot!
I had this problem a couple of times. It wouldn't sync with FB or Google. Then magically one day i had all of my contacts and all of my apps onmy phone, with out me trying to dl them. o_0
Its fairly easy to flash a rom. I was amazed by how simple it was, coming from a G1. I mean, download OCLF, it will root the phone for you. Then download RomManager and come on to XDA and dl the zip of the rom you want. Move into the root of the driectory, open RomManager and select the zip. Done. Of course certain roms require more work, but tis simple.

You can always download on to your PC and copy it on to your phone and take it from there. Just google for Rom Manager APK
I downloaded this file: http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.4-vibrant.zip
Its a zip file, now what should I do next? I really am new to this Android world and can't figure out the next step...
Please help me...
I have installed ROM Manager 2.5.0.4. But when I click on anything, it asks me to download CM Recovery. I touch 'Yes' and it gives error that maybe my phone is not connected to internet or I dont have space in my SD card...
I am now starting to suspect internet problem with my phone, though I can use internet on my browser... Besides that, I cannot open the maps application nor youtube or any other google based service...
I really dont know what to do now...
I'm rooted & on stock firmware ICS 4.0.3 XWLP7, I recently flashed JKays framework & deluxe settings for this firmware & I'm not really sure if that bares any significance to my problem! I'm experiencing quite high CPU usage (between 35%-45%! even if I kill all running processes/applications) over the last week or so & wondered if this is normal? I've also tried wiping battery stats & dalvik cache, & athough it helps a little, it only last for a small period of time, like an hour or so!? If someone could give me any clues as to why this may be happening I'd be greatfull!!

You should let your battery run down until it's almost dead and then show bbs stats.
Your phone is not sleeping properly because something is causing kernel wakelocks. You should Google those first 2 kernel wakelocks to try and find out what is causing them. The first one is related to apps and data usage. Use titanium backup to freeze rogue apps causing them.

From what I can gather (I might be wrong!) my problem seems to be related to data traffic, here: https://github.com/asksven/BetterBatteryStats-Knowledge-Base/wiki/svnet-dormancy
Does anyone know how to track down which app or service in particular may be be causing it?
TIA! ;
Based on your earlier post you will probably ignore this:
Are you switching your 2g/3g data OFF when not using the phone?
If you leave it on, loads of apps have the chance to check for updates/synchronise
turn off auto updates, syncing, wifi, 3g and anything else related to accessing the net for information

I don't think you can actually find which app it is without freezing all your user apps and trying one by one, which would be a pain. You could try reflashing clean and reinstalling all your apps clean. Could just freeze any apps you think might be the culprit and try one by one to narrow it down. Could also use Tasker or some other app to better control your data so you are not always connected. I leave my data off at all times and only turn it on when I am doing something that needs it.

Thanks, I thaught as much when I mentioned trying to narrow it down to a particular app! I've turned data transfer off when not using the phone now & I must say that it's made a significant difference, but I still don't fully understand why it started eating my battery/data all of a sudden like that, when I didn't change anything on the phone but install JKays framework & deluxe settings prior to this problem !
I like to receive my emails which is one reason for keeping data turned on, & I usually have it on GSM only unless I use the net without Wi Fi when I'm out & about!
I suppose I can only try different fixes & try & work out the best solution specific to my use of the phone huh!?
For some reason a little blue battery icon with a number for the charge percent in the middle randomly popped up in the top left corner of my notification bar. Also toggles for wifi, bluetooth, gps, sync, and brightness appeared under "Ongoing". These two things happened at the same time and I don't know how and would like to get rid of them. If this is the right place to be asking can someone help me or direct me to the ride thread were I can ask?

Thank you for your reply, I tried uninstalling all my recent apps and it doesn't seem to be working. I always check the ratings and reviews on apps before I download them and try to download only reputable apps so I'm not sure how this could be the problem. The screenshot of my apps shows all the apps I downloaded the day the problem arose.

Seems to have worked. I uninstalled widgetsoid and that seems to have gotten rid of it. It must have somehow activated a new feature I wasn't aware of seeing as I downloaded it when I first got my phone but realized I didn't need it so I never really even used it. I kind of feel like an idiot now, thanks everyone for the help especially JJEgan for being specific about tools and battery apps. Glad to have joined this forum I think it's the best of its kind.
Since upgrading to 4.1.2 I'm suffering a bit with battery life. Looking at BBS, in the past 57 minutes my battery has gone from 100 to 92% I've had 242 wakelocks from GTALK_ASYNC_CONN_com.google.android.gsf.gtalkservice.AndroidEndpoint
Now when I was on 4.1.1 I suffered terrible battery life until I unticked "Use wifi to help determine location", and then I was averaging about 32-34 hours to a full battery (about 3% per hour), great! I was very happy with that. Now I'm losing 7-10% per hour and this wakelock seems to be the issue.
After Googling about a bit there doesn't seem to be a concrete solution, so any help is appreciated.

Maybe you can log out of GTalk?
It seems to be a Gtalk issue so why not log out of it ?
Better yet, just uninstall it for few days and observe the behavior.

Hi Eggman, thanks for your reply.
I should have mentioned in the first post, from what I've read it isn't actually Google+ that causes this, it's a general Google Account process, and to be fair I shouldn't have to log out of G+ to save battery, I don't with FB or Twitter. (I'm not shooting the messenger here)
Anyway, luckily I don't use G+ so it I have just loaded it up and logged out, let's see if it changes anything.
He says gtalk, you say g+... See the discrepancy?

Sorry, I thought Gtalk was just a byproduct of Google+, basically like Facebook Chat is to Facebook.
Well, either way I've logged out of Google+ and it's completely killed the wakelock. Weird.
Gtalk and google services like gmail were facing a widespread outage today. So that's why the wakelock. It'll get fine once the service resumes normally.

My girlfriends Nexus 4 had this wakelock and it was draining her battery pretty quickly. I monitored it for a bit and realised that at work she connects to a free wifi network which blocks the ports Google Service uses to sync. I told her not to use that wifi network anymore and the wakelock has gone.
Could it be something similar to this for you?

Yes at my work we have proxy connection wifi and I realised when wifi is on this wakelock is and when I'm on 3g it isn't. But the weird thing I didn't have this wakelock at all before 4.1.2 with the same situation.

Ive had this issue for a while now, its a massive wakelock compared to the rest of them!
The solution that worked for me, although I need help with it, is to disable all the 'gtalk' entries under Google Framework Services in the app called Autorun Manager.
Freezing the app, or logging out has no effect as its linked with Gmail and Play store.
HOWEVER, when i disabled these entries i therefore couldnt get gmail to auto sync anymore (didnt try play store).
SO, there are about 5 or so entries in the framework that have the word 'gtalk'. If someone could find the entry that disables this lock but still keeps gmail (and whatever else) working properly that'd be great.
EDIT: look here peeps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22786143&postcount=3416

From what I've personally seen, that wakelock is related to some as-yet-discovered google service doing it's thing over Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi only. When connected to my house's Wi-Fi, I've seen in a couple of times...but there is a mobile AP at my work and I am guessing they've locked things up tight and might be restricting certain traffic.... in any case, when I am connected to the APs at work, that wakelock GOES NUTS. I disable Wi-Fi... and POOF! the wakelock vanishes. As soon as I pop it back in, the WL cranks back up again. I turned off Sync and it still keeps cranking. I tried disabling google's backup, you name it.. still there. I haven't quite found out exactly what process is throwing that WL... is there a way to find that out?
Something seems to be trying to phone home over my Wi-Fi, can't, and its throwing up a WL while it keeps trying. But when I'm running over the Mobile network, it's happy as a clam and never heard from. Is there a way to find the exact process/service that is triggering this wakelock?
Hi everyone,
Can't find a subject on this so here it is.
I was wondering, if I set wifi off but I keep the global sync option on in the 4.2.2 tiles, does the apps will try to sync even if wifi is off, and then drain a little bit off battery ?
Maybe I can do a "log" to see what is happening if nobody knows. That's not a really important thing, but I asked myself this, so I am gently looking for an answer
Thanks !

no for a direct answer
but the sync checks for the network connection(wifi&data) if it is available or not and hence there will be a lil battery drain

So if I understand well, it works like this :
"sync service" checks wifi
- If ON, send Sync request (or something like this) to the different apps listed in sync menu of the system settings ?
- If Off, it just stop there ?
And this brings another question to me:
Why could not we configure the sync intervals globally here, instead of in each app's UI ?
(I'm trying my best in english, sorry if there is some mistakes, please tell me)

Hi!
You need to check logs first. For android, any application that registered with permission "NETWORK_STATE_CHANGED_ACTION" will do something on wifi off (and on wifi on also of course). It can be sync, some maintenance or any other work. So, check logs, there is a chance that you will find something usefull here. Another way is to check permissions of installed application.
Thanks.
So my final question is: (just to be sure, and to know how much)
If I take off Wi-Fi AND sync, my battery will last longer than Wi-Fi off sync on? How much?
Very very insignificant ?
