I cant afford an XDA2, but have recently been interested in the XDA, but have a few questions...
First of all, I didnt realise it had 4k colours, but how bad is it? I currently have a 65k colour screen SPV E200, so is the difference horrible? Baring in mind I will be watching videos, playing games, and using the internet on it. I know how bad my old Nokia 6100 colour screen was, and it's what's putting me off.
Secondly, I have a few problems with my E200, which if you've read anything about them, you'll know what I mean. I know the XDA is made by HTC aswell, so does it have loads of problems too?
Cheers!
They are nice machines, you can get them off e-bay for about £120 for the 32MB model, and £150 ish for the 64.
I got the 32MB for £120 sometime ago, however, I would recommend going for the 64Mb for a few quid more.
The display is only 4096 colours, but all pic viewers I've used allow dithering which makes the image look very presentable, even DivX players, more would be nicer though.
Battery life is wicked, but I guess that could be down to the faily dim backlight compared to the XDA II, and other PDA's I've used (we have them all at work, iPAQ, Tosh's, Casio's etc.) I've been on holiday for 2 weeks(left XDA @ home) and didn't lose a thing, my iPAQ would have been blanked in that time!
Be careful if you are considering installing WM2003 thats currently knocking around, as you'll get trouble if you plan on using an SD card. Two of us keep getting them erased, plus numerous folks on the net have reported similar findings.
All-in-all the XDA I is a good purchase, but don't pay a bean over £160 for the 64MB one in mint condition with case, headphones and boxes.
Happy Hunting....
Cheers for that spadb.
I'm guessing it'd be a hell of a lot worse to look at than my E200?
I have a E200 as well, checked all the info before it got released and I was like I must have this phone.............now 5 months down the road what a waste of £300, yes it has all the nice toys on it, but with all the problems it is having I wish I had spent the money on the XDA 2, anyway brought me a xda with 32meg (had a little fault on it) so I phoned the XDA center and told them the problem I was having and how much it would cost to get it fixed guess what phone is still under warranty (think all xda's have 2 years) and getting it fixed for free , lets see Orange come up with something like that!
Ah great, someone with an E200 aswell...
Would I struggle to like the XDA with the 4k colours, after using my E200?
Nope, for the 2 days I used it (off for repair at the mo) I had no problems with it, nice large screen, clear sound (oh what joy after the E200) and by far less bugs and crashes, lots more out for the xda (program wise) than for the E200, only problem I faced was trying to work out the Orange settings for the phone, the other downside was short battery life but after the E200's battery problem I can put up with it.
So a video is just as watchable as on the E200? And games are just as good? What about the internet, because I find 65k colours annoying as it is, as it isnt enough, or maybe that's down to the size of the E200's screen?
Cant give much info on using it on the net as I never got round to it, as for vid's and games just as good but on a bigger screen, when mine comes back I can give more info till then can't do much.
not wanting to hijack the thread but to just ask.
I've just bought an XDA I on e-bay. couldn't afford an XDA II either and paid £206 (incl delivery) but this one is 64mb, unlocked, boxed, brand new with a two year warranty so I think I've got a reasonable deal.
the only thing that miffs me a bit is lack of SDIO bluetooth support but it looks like the Jabra BT200 takes care of what I wanted, (handsfree with no poxy cable strangling me)
yeah, I'd say the XDA was the best buy. the only other alternative in the same price class on e-bay is the Jornada 928 which I actually owned for four hours before relisting on e-bay. don't get me wrong, lovely screen, good HP execution of features and the phone implementation was good, but it's a brick, it's bulky, it's chunky and it's dead tech with zilch support from HP so yeah, the XDA is a good buy.
there's good support, plenty of forums on it and spares. so I reckon I made the right choice.
Buy the xda, you will not regret it, if you want a demo of the video download killer bean 2.
I've been surfing around for a cheap android tablet running ICS and I found the HK-10K. Problem is I have no idea if it's a rebrand or a knock off or what:
http://www.merimobiles.com/HK_10K_10inch_Android_4_0_Amlogic_AML8726_M_ARM_Co_p/meri3551.htm
Anyone have anything good or bad to say about these?
Wow! i want one!
been looking for some decent fake ICS tablet with decent spec for a while
but it's only single core 1.2 Ghz still not bad
1 GB RAM
great for games, which is what i want it for
$205 price tag + free shipping sounds great
however the only gotcha i don't like is that website, never deal with them, can't say if they are safe or not
time to check DX and see if they carry it
Feedback
Yeah, I'm familiar with the product. I'm one of a growing number of tablet users who enjoys operating the pinch/zoom feature by placing my testicles on the tablet and manipulating them with a combination of muscle contraction, ice cubes, and prostate stimulation. In the short time I had to test this product at Best Buy I found it satisfied all my demands and then some. You'll find you don't need to shave as often since the screen is durable enough to take even several days worth of stubble without scratching and the front facing camera has exceptional micro detail for close range "aiming down the sights" photography.
All in all this is great product and fantastic bargain. I'll definitely be buying one immediately after posting bail.
1024x600 for 10.1" screen? Really?
Even though it's not released yet, but this look more optimistic.

They are safe, I bought MID816 from them last year.
Ordered mine a week ago, shipping should take 2-3 weeks. Know alot of peeps who ordered on this website, all orders were delivered.
Just recieved mine yesterday. Overall pretty nice tablet and well worth its money. Unfortunatly ive have problem with the battery and I hope someone here has an idea on how to fix this. Cus I dont feel like shipping the device back to Hong Kong all the way from the Netherlands :/
Once its fully charged ill disconnect the tablet and the percentage drops to like +/-60%. Sometimes its a lil above it, sometimes its a lil lower. And it also drains the juice like a moddafokka.. I can maybe use for 1 hours nonstop, then it has to charge again.
Now I know i bought a budget device from some unknown brand, but still shouldnt this be a little better?
On adroid phones its possible calebrate your battery. Not sure if you need root access for this though. Should that be possible with a tablet like this aswell? And does any of you know any way to make this happen? Or at least fix my batter issues. Cus I hate paying 200 dollars for this kind of crap.
Any other advice regarding this issue is very much appericiated.
Here is a good deal on a new HTC view for 229.99. No contract required.
http://1saleaday.com/
Nice to see that it's back at this price point for the people who missed out last month.
I purchased mine from this site when they offered it back in December. It arrived in less than a week and in brand new condition. I had no complaints whatsoever.
I placed an order this morning...Back in the box Kindle Fire, time to go back!
I'm thinking about picking it up. I have a Streak 7, which despite all the complaints, I don't think is that bad. The only thing holding me from buying this is going from a dual core down to a single core. Has anyone had both of these devices? How quick is the Evo? Thanks in advance.
I got one on the previous deal, thinking about getting another lol
I purchased one from this site again and I am purchasing a second one now so I can play with rooting and using other ROMs. The extra set of cables and charges are a benefit to me a well. I am sure I will be turning to you all at some point for what do do with the second system and how best to customize it. I hope that at some point ICS will be available too through customization.

Bought the second View yesterday - this time for myself
I just bought a Kindle Fire and put CM7 on it. So far I love it but this deal has me seriously considering selling the KF and picking up the Evo View.
What kind of differences will I notice in processing power, if any?

I am running CM7 on the Kindle Fire as well. I don't think it is that snappy at all. I am actually thinking the single core 1.5ghz processor will seem faster plus the 1gig of ram should help as well.
This device offers so much more then the KF at this price it cannot be passed up. With the addition of a front and back camera, bluetooth, 32 gigs of memory, official honeycomb update, that is enought to satisfy me. Plus nothing will seem as snappy as my Epic 4G touch anyway, even the KF with it's dual core isn't even in the same league as E4GT.
I'm wondering if I should pick one up or wait for the new Asus tablet, the 370T
I jumped on this deal this morning, as well. I look forward to putting my Nook Color on eBay or CraigsList in a week or two and joining you guys here in these forums. I just wish the deal had been through Amazon so I could have it on Monday - this week is going to kill me!
I'm no dev or anything, usually just a lurker with a couple posts here and there. But this place seems much more civil than a lot of the other XDA forums I've been in, so maybe that will change.
Now I'm off to shop for some accessories while I'm in limbo. Woohoo!
Screen?
Really considering this deal. I have a Nook Tablet and I really wish it had a front camera, working bluetooth, and to some extent, GPS. I do however really like the screen on the NT. How's the screen on the View? Can you move off center in all directions and it still looks great? Poor performance in the screen is the kind of fundamental niggle I just can't live with. How about responsiveness? Is the GUI relatively fluid?
wow I was wondering if that deal would ever come again. great tablet. I had a nook tablet before the view, but I just couldn't stand not having the real android market and I envied the stylus input. I'd say the screen is exceptionally responsive and fluid when compared to the nt. It really feels like a $500-$700 tablet slashed down to $230. its a steal. I almost want to buy a backup tablet in case anything happens to this one.

You could buy this now, use it until that one comes out, and still get $200-250 for the View on Craigslist.

If it does everything I need, I will go with the View. How thick/heavy is it compared to Fire? I wasn't impressed with how heavy the Fire was.

I had the NT, even rooted it with your MAC script. I liked it a lot but could not live with the fussing around regarding the OTA update. B&N's stance on hacking their device has really soured my taste toward them so I returned it. I picked up a WiFi Flyer and haven't looked back. The screen is basically the same as the NT, just as good, if not better viewing angles. However, the NT has slightly less glare. The responsiveness is at least as good as the NT if not better. I even like the overall feel of the Flyer over the NT. It isn't as thin, but it feels stronger and better made. Anyways, I can pretty much guarantee you won't miss the NT at all.
What are the chances this thing will get ICS? Rather official, or CM9 support?
The price for this tablet is great, but if this tablet won't have ICS I'm going to wait awhile for the new tablets to come out.
View eats all other 7-8" tablets for breakfast.
Been there, done this.
Ordered my second View.
Returned my Vizio 8" to the store.
Life is good

I concur. I have Both the KF & HTC EVO View 4g and the View is Much, Much faster and snappier than the KF. I LOVE it since HC was put on and the Stylus works soooooo much better since HC. I use the View all the time AND I have a Xoom WiFi WITH ICS and still use the View more because I can Write to the SD Card whenever I want. Whereas my Xoom is a GED Device and even thou it has ICS there still is NO Write ability to the SD Card Internally, which to me gimps the device. I put a PNY 32GB Class 10 in my View for Extra Storage and have a Otterbox Defender on it. Awesome Device.
DON'T get caught up in the Dual Core vs Single Core issue with this device. HTC Optimized the View Magnificently with Sense and HC that it's really FAST and Buttery Smooth.
I just ordered mine. I was sorta reluctant, because I am not a fan of Sense. I currently have an Acer Iconia A100 that I got from Best Buy for $180. I will give the View 4G a shot (fingers crossed that CM will hit this thing). I just know that one tablet will be on the Craigslist soon. Also, I read this review after making the purchase:

hi all,
just wondering what you guys make of your xperia s's?
i've had an htc wildfire s for around 8-9 months now i guess and i absolutely hate it.
it;'s slow, it has no memory, crashes all the time and is generally a terrible piece of technology.
thinking of getting myself an xperia s because i can't really justify spending £500 on an iphone ha ha.
how do you guys find your phone in terms of reliability/stability? how's the battery life?
are there any drawbacks or issues you have noticed? what other benefits does it offer other than being a hell of a lot faster and prettier than my htc?
i've read something about it having psn store? how does that work?
sorry for the total lack of orgranisation in this post, i'm just eager to learn
phone is wonderfull, i would never change it.
But i give it 8 of 10, cuz had problem with yellow tint on display, and some others...
battery life is quitly good.
Battery life is not so good, how long should I charge the phone?
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Very nice, good battery life if you don't overload it, the software is really good.

cool, thanks for the input guys.
yellow tint though? maybe a faulty unit? or is this a common issue?
i'm thinking of going for this over the iphone now because it has
-twice the battery
-twice the processing speed
-twice the storage
-12mp camera
-psn store
-around 2/3 the cost (have seen in online for £360, vs apple's £500).
just not sure because i really like the iOS5 and the general smoothness of the iPhones....but this xperia does seem to blow it out of the water on every level ha ha.
Reserved for tonight
Verstuurd van mijn LT26i met Tapatalk
The delay of ICS has seen me lusting after the One X and, more recently, the S III BUT they are considerably more expensive and actually similar in spec anyway.
I think once ICS arrives, I'll fall back in love with this. The screen blows everything (those two included) away!

The most recent devices haven't got this issue anymore, but you don't have much control over how new a device you'll receive and there are reports of it disappearing over time anyway.
I ordered mine from 3 (UK) the same night my girlfriend ordered hers directly from Sony, and I got a newer model which doesn't show any sign of a tint (w19) compared to hers (w13), and I had .73 firmware compared to her .67.
Having said that, she's not a gamer or anything and just uses the phone for calls, texts, facebook etc and hasn't noticed any tint either (often contributed to high phone temperatures). I think by the sounds of it, and there's no offense intended here, but coming from a Wildfire, I wouldn't expect you to be a massively heavy user and an Xperia S would be fine for you.
The screen is absolutely fantastic and is easily comparable to, if not better than the iPhone retina. I don't think you'll regret getting one in the slightest.
nice one, yeah, i've been reading a bit more about this phone, and a lot of people say that the yellow tint thing goes away after time (and that many other smartphones, including iphone, are subject to similar problems anyway).
yeah, coming from the wildfire s, i just basically want a phone that WORKS
went down to carphone warehouse today to have a little play around on one, and i was pretty impressed, it all seems pretty smooth and fast (and that was on an old software version i believe, since it's just a display model, which they won't bother keep updating it all the time).
one thing i did notice was the lack of the psn store on the display model....it had the playstation app where you can view playstation news and blogs etc, but the store didn't seem to be there....
this was one of the main reasons i was thinking of going for this phone specifically....is there any reason why it was missing? is it because i'm in the uk? :S
hopefully it's just soemthing that comes with an update or something?

When I went into o2 at Westfield Statford to test the Xperia S I was a little bit bummed by the overall smoothness of it due to some minor lag etc but when I checked it's running time it had been on for over 500 hours (3 weeks) and of course every tom **** and harry been experimenting on it.
When I got my own XS the experience was 10x better so if you liked the display model you should like it even more when you own one
yeah i'm going to order this tomorrow, if i get it form argos i get 7 months to pay it off (and if i use my dad's discount it puts it down to £360, same as play.com and amazon).
i've just read also that these phones come pre-fitted with a screen protector
is this correct (especially for uk peeps)?
if so, that's genius, because applying those things are near to impossible without getting bubbles etc.
does anyone use another screen protector on top? or is it best to use the pre-fitted one until it gets scratched/damaged.
i was going to go carphone warehouse and get their pro-fitting/lifetime warrenty, but if it comes pre-fitted i needn't bother until it gets damaged?
yes, it indeed comes prefitted with a screen protector so just use it as is, it's great
(and they also included an extra one in the box too!!)
battery life is pretty good, and should be better once Ice Cream Sandwich releases (soon), so the only thing i've done is switch auto-sync off, mobile network as 2G and screen brightness to about one-third
the (built in) Power Saver app, timed saver modes also help (I set it to switch wi-fi, 3g, bluetooth, nfc, screen brightness etc to off or low between 1am and 7am for example)
as for PlayStation certification:
you get a link 'Let's start PS Store' to instructions
where you can download PS Store
so I don't know whether it connects with PlayStation Network PSN ID (haven't tried yet!!)
but the forthcoming PlayStation Mobile might be what PlayStation certified devices have access to
I've used Xperia S for about one month.
I feel Xperia S with DooMKernel & Xperia SSpeed ROM is SO GOOD!!!!!
I can use Xperia S all day long without charging.
Hi Gloris,
Forget about PSN and go ahead and buy this phone, for me it's the best smartphone ever exists since now, and it will be better after some weeks with android ICS ; I was using the iphone's model since many years, after buying the 4s, I was very disappointed! it's a jock, it's maybe useful for the paraplegic persons, but how really needs to speak to his phone! which asks you to repeat many times .... well, I sold my Iphone 4s after 2 weeks of use, and I bought an HTC sensation XE and I updated to ICS 4.0.3, I was very impressed by this OS, it's excellent, no more syc with itunes, you have just to copy and paste what you need in your phone via USB cable, (music, pics, files, apps, games ...), but I was still disappointed about the hardware of this HTC, so I bought my xperia S since one month, version 67 with no yellow screen issue, and now I'm really satisfied and it will be better after the release of ISC .... the camera is just wonderful, the screen excellent, 1.5 ghz processor, 1 go RAM, 32 Go HDD, sound Sony! I’m using it with a beats audio headphone, it’s a crazy …. You can pay movies full HD 1080p and link you phone to the TV via HDMI cable …. No seriously, stop asking questions and go buy it ….

I'm due for an upgrade now, and browsing through the phones on the Verizon store (I can't upgrade through any third party due to the fact I'm on a business account) the only decent 4g phone is the rezound.
I'm currently on a 2 year old Xperia Play, 3g, and it's only redeeming factor is the cool slide out gamepad I use to this day. However, it's seen better days and I gotta retire it. So my question is, is the Rezound worth the free price tag? I hear that rooting it is on the easier side, and that I can squeeze battery life/power out of it through this method, but I'm pretty new to phone hardware/software.
It's either that or pay 50-150 bucks for a new phone. I'd honestly rather not pay anything, but knowing that this phone is a full year old at this point might influence that decision.

The rezound was ahead of its time so font let the one year mark scare you. However, if your gonna have to keep this phone for two more years you'd be better off with a newer peice of hardware, like the sgs3 or the DROID dna. Also the DROID razr m doesn't look to bad but idk about the modding process for moto phones

I've had my Rezound for a while now and I'm always looking at which phones are new. So far, because I don't like huge screens and I like my micro SD card I don't see many new phones for me. I also prefer HTC phones because of the superior cameras. So at this point the Rezound is still a good phone, but it doesn't seem to have 2 years worth of life left.

The DNA feedback has been surprisingly good. Battery life is amazing, and it runs like a beast straight out of the box unrooted.
However it's been out a while and like always, there's something better on the Horizon. The GS3 is a nice phone but I wouldn't burn an upgrade for it if you plan to keep your next phone longer than a year or so.
I can't say much about the rezound that's negative. Most of the comments people made who were unhappy was back before we had official ICS firmware and ice cream sandwich source code.
Since you're considering spending a little money on a newer phone anyway, have you considered buying a cheap rezound from a third party (as in a nice used one off contract) and saving your upgrade for the next batch of new phones?
The other advantage there is the readily available development, and HTC dev unlock and s off, all of which exist already.
A friend of mine had an older phone that was decent, but wanted a new toy. He held his upgrade but bought a mint nexus 7 off of somebody local for an extremely cheap deal. Just throwing out ideas, I know it's not likely that's something you're wanting to do.

I'm probably not the person to ask. I don't buy on contract anymore (not losing my unlimited), and there's really not another phone out that interests me right now anyway. The DNA is the only one that piques my interest at all, but I'm waiting for an AOSP RIL. Samsung is the only other manufacturer that has anything resembling an attractive package to me right now, but I don't like Samsung phone hardware (their screens completely kill the deal for me). All things considered, the Rezound is still the right phone for me right now, but I'd be hard pressed to recommend one on contract.

I can agree with that. I love the brightness and vibrance of my GSIII screen, but it is nowhere near as sharp as my rezound. The battery life is pretty sick though.

The battery life on the Rezound is, in my opinion, very poor. The only way my Rezound is useful to me is with the extended battery, which renders the phone a brick. Also, I'm tired of "plasticky" feeling phones. I haven't held a Droid DNA in my hands, but from what I've read about it, it feels more solid. That being said, I wouldn't get a Droid DNA until there's a strong dev community around it.
Appreciate the response guys. I'm probably going to just hold on to my upgrade. My Xperia Play may be a piece of garbage but it makes calls, browses reddit, and plays gameboy ROMs. I would have loved to get the 4g version of my phone but they just keep phasing out old phones and bringing in new ones so damn often.
Any phones I should be looking out for? I'm considering the DNA, but at 200 dollars on an upgrade that's pretty steep for me. Also, is a lack of micro SD becoming an industry standard? I don't keep up with the news like this, but reading some reviews for the DNA leads me to believe the 16 gig internal storage is all you get. I hope they don't go the way of Apple with memory capacity.
No. Save your upgrade for the next generation of phones.

That's becoming the industry standard on high end smartphones. Completely sealed except for the SIM slot. No expandable memory, no replaceable battery. I can see good and bad in it. I could easily get by with 8GB if I had to with everything I do being so cloud connected, but having more is nice and I don't like losing the option. The battery being internal is definitely doubled edged. It lets them optimize the battery to better utilize the internal space, which lets them squeeze the most out of the battery they can, but there are days I just need to pop a new one in.

Unfortunately the downfall to non expandable memory and cloud solutions is the tiered data plans that people are being forced into. Streaming any kind of music from say... Google music's cloud storage will burn through your data like you wouldn't believe(I have almost 10 GB of music on my phone). I just... don't like it. That's one reason I opted for my GSIII. The ability to have a 64GB SD is worth being behind slightly in software or hardware.

I just got the rezound today for free coming from an s2 on Sprint. I must say I'm pretty impressed! It's a bit heavy and I'm not rooting until I my 14 day trial is up. The beats headphones is a win win. Keyboard sucks but I'm overall happy for my first day. I'm more concerned about this 2gb of data I'm sharing with my girl than the phone itself. The DNA looks good but the battery and no expandable memory killed it for me

I love my rezound, but like others said..save ur upgrade. Ive always wanted an xperia play
Battery life is the only complaint I have on the rezound. Even a year old its as good or better than most other phones except a few high end phones. My wife got a razr m two months ago and its a very nice phone. Aside from the screen resolution its better than the rezound in almost everyway hardware wise. It's exactly the same hardware as the razr hd but a smaller screen. And it has jb. The ppi is crap on it is the only bad thing. And built in battery. But it does have an sd card. For an inexpensive phone it is extremely nice. But I still love my rezzie.

Right now is quite possibly one of the worst times to upgrade your phone. Just keep waiting, and you'll be glad you did. Seriously.

I'd honestly rather not pay anything, but knowing that this phone is a full year old at this point might influence that decision.

the GS4 is in production right now and the samsung mobile director said at CES that he needs to crank it out ASAP to stay competitive. Just be patient
I've had my rezound fit amidst a week and got 10 hours battery life today with light use and still have 30%

I am in the same boat as you. I renewed my contract before they stop grandfathering unlimited contracts and got the rezound. At this point I see no reason to upgrade. The phone has GSM, great screen, good camera, 4G(best part ), and it feels good. I would recommend this phone if you are in the market for a free one. If your desires are for something else make sure to research the community behind the phone. The GSIII has a CleanROM for it but unfortunately the developer jumps devices faster than most people can keep up. The rezound just got a relatively stable version of jelly bean that is only going to get better.
