[Q] Swype 2.2.4.2.10369 upgrade problems on Vibrant T959UVJI6 - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was earlier having T959UVJFD firmware and then Kies proposed me to upgrade to T959UVJI6.
Upon initial firmware (T959UVJFD) the swype had only English & Spanish, while I needed Russian, & I successfully upgraded it with multilingual version Swype_1.60.36.8214_WVGA.
Now after upgrade to T959UVJI6 they proposed not only English & Spanish in swype, the version 2.2.4.2.10369 has bigger choice & even mic, but still no Russian. Currently the latest multilingual version of Swype I could find is Swype_2.6.47.11856_WVGA. So I decided to upgrade Swype.
Uninstalling the application appeared not so simple - even when I definitely remove /system/app/Swype.apk I still see Swype in applications list (WTF?). Executing adb uninstall /system/app/Swype.apk gives a failure error. And even after removing /system/app/Swype.apk and trying to install this new Swype_2.6.47.11856_WVGA I'm getting failure with the code INSTALL_FAILED_UPDATE_INCOMPATIBLE.
The only way to uninstall (so-so) the Swype was using Titanium Backup. But then after installing this new Swype_2.6.47.11856_WVGA it appears unusable - not only the keyboard doesn't appear but exception upon keyboard launch attempt is thrown. So the only way that worked was to install this Swype 2.2.4.2.10369 back.
What options do I have to upgrade my swype or to add Russian to it? Please advise.

Same thing man. It throws the same exception when keyboard is required (launched).
The application Swype (process com.swype.android.inputmethod) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

No solutions as for now. I decided to use an alternative to swype for a while.
The app is called "SlideIT Keyboard". It can be found on the market.
It has Russian language pack available as a separate download.
I hope T-mobile will release either version of Swype with Russian one day or will give a possibility to update swype. Waiting for...

I also want to install russian language in Swype on Froyo 2.2, and from what I read on the internet:to install swype languages, you need to
replace swype.apk in /system/app AND
also replace(?delete? maybe) libSwypeCore.so in system/libs AND
replace/(delete?) com.swype.android.inputmethod folder in data/data.
I tried my old 2.1 swype 1.58.33.7772 (from backup) using the above method, but it's probably not compatible, although it doesn't crash, it also doesn't show any languages to choose. I tried other versions of swype as well (where people kindly provided swype.apk + libSwypeCore.so) , and they worked showing different languages each time, but none had Russian Maybe Swype hasn't released a 2.2 compatible version with Russian language?
If anyone has android 2.2 and Russian language in Swype, could you upload Swype.apk from /system/app and libSwypeCore.so from system/libs
Thanks in advance.

Any updates on this guys? I need to have either russian swype or 3x4 Russian keyboard with T9 (I was able to find 3x4 russian keyboard, but with no T9).

Fortunately with Froyo update from T-mobile I managed to replace default Swype with the new version Swype_2.6.47.11856_WVGA.apk

[Q] Swype 3.0

Is there any way we can get the new swype update incorporated into some of the ROMs? Or do we have to download it separately?

I would imagine it will get incorporated into future ROMs or included in an update to a current ROM. But if you want it now you will have to download it separately. Before you can download 3.0 you will have to switch your default keyboard to another keyboard then using a file explorer app such as root explorer go in and delete these four files: /system/app/swype.apk, /data/data/com.swype.android.inputmethod, /dbdata/databases/com.swype.android.inputmethod, and /system/lib/libswypecore.so
swype 3.0 beta has drm/licensing stuff in it..so it will expire at some point if we incorporate as is into the roms (comrom/etc)
im hopeful we can get that stuff removed as was done for 2.29 that we were using in tsm roms
Okay cool. Thanks for the replies
Spent some time trying to get swype 3b installed.
The installer apparently requires the old version to be removed. So I did (Titanium). The installer went all the way through the download process, but actually installing gave me "was not installed." Gee, what a helpful error.
So I tried downloading an apk from the web and got the same error. So I tried using root explorer to install the apk manually (including setting permissions and changing owner). It FC'd repeatedly after reboot. So I removed it.
Then I tried adb install. That didn't work either. Then, realizing that Titanium didn't have a backup for my original Swype, I tried installing the v2 apk via adb, but that doesn't work either.
Ugh. Now I don't have Swype at all! Any ideas? Can someone tell me if there's a unique version for this phone or something?

Me too on the Swype problem. I had 3.0 working on the CM7 Alpha that jt built but that was a little to buggy so I switched to CommROM 2.0. Because of the way Swype is integrated into CommROM, it can't be easily replaced. Would love for someone to point me in the right direction on this.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you're not supposed to download swype beta if you have a phone that comes with swype installed. I'm not sure why but I read that it won't work.
Choose a different keyboard. Uninstall old swype. Reboot, then install new beta.
Worked for me.
Yeah, I struggled with that issue last night (getting "was not installed" with 3.0 after removing 2)... but don't fret, it turns out the solution (which I discovered by mistake) is to literally just reboot your phone before installing 3.0. Hurr.
Keep in mind you still do have to manually delete /system/lib/libswypecore.so using Root Explorer or the like after uninstalling Swpye 2 via TB -- otherwise you will have problems.
Is there an echo in here?
And I did not have to manually delete any files and everything is working fine.
I used Titanium to delete the original, then used the installer without problems. That said, I don't like 3.0 and went back to the old version.
Working!
After seeing your replies, I deleted the lib file. I also ran
adb shell pm list packages
and found com.swype.android.inputmethod was still installed:
adb uninstall com.swype.android.inputmethod
then reboot.
then used swype little installer package.
and now it works!
Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy
Delete using Titanium, reboot, install using the standard Swype installer seems to work.
Keeps getting better with every release!!!
I had been having some issues with the latest Swype beta's auto-correction, in that when I was touch-typing for non-dictionary words (like acronyms, etc.), the auto-correction was doing its job and was 'auto-correcting'; but of course, I didn't want these words corrected! (I guess I was still operating under Swype's old rules which were when you touch-typed, it always assumed you were entering the correct spelling of whatever you had typed). So I turned off automatic auto-correct, and now I just have the word suggestion bar. This process seems to be working much better for me now.

Are there any other file managers besides root explorer that take advantage of root access?
I'm sure root explorer is good and all, I just don't feel like forking over 3 or 4 bucks or whatever for it - I don't like paying for apps, it's just one more thing that isn't a free download if you have to reflash your ROM or do a factory reset or something. Learned that lesson a few years ago with an 2nd gen iPod Touch.
That being said, there's plenty of free file managers out there, will any of them perform root operations such as deleting Swype.apk manually?
Once you purchase an app it is linked to your gmail acct. If you wipe or reflash it's still your's. Save yourself the headache and just buy root explorer.

[Q] Galaxy S2 and Swype

Hi there,
I know, there's a couple of discussions about this topic but none of them could actually solve my problem.
I have a rooted Galaxy S2. I used titanium backup to uninstall the Swype version coming with the ROM. Then I cleaned every file containing "swype" from my device with root explorer (also /system/app/swype.apk and /system/lib/libswype*.*).
After that, I downloaded the Swype Installver v2.0 from the swypes beta page. I logged in with my swype account and installed the most current swype version. So far, so good. Everythings fine till this point.
After installing Swype it says "Licensing Swype, please wait..." for hours. I don't get past this point, independent how hard I try.
What's wrong?
Thanks!
OK, solved the problem - finally. The new Swype is awesome!

Unable to install Swype Beta on AT&T Note

Has anyone else tried removing the stock Swype and installing the new Swype Beta with Dragon Dictation on their AT&T Note yet? Just doesn't install.
Did you delete the /lib files belonging to the previous swype version? U Need to delete these before installing a new swype

Yes, did that. Just seems like an issue with beta apk file with the Note?
Possibly

I think your right, it may not nd be compatible with the note :c

It's compatible. It worked just fine on my International version.
I haven't put it on my AT&T version because of the USPS bull****.

I'll walk you through it if I can get it to work again with this AT&T version, haha...
I didn't do anything special from what I remember, just Titanium Backup uninstall, double checked the lib files, and installed. Haven't done it in a while...
Installed Swype Beta but...
Got Swype Beta 3.26 working on my AT&T G-Note. Not difficult but I removed it and re-installed the stock version.
The problem is that Swype Beta thinks that the G_Note is a tablet and the keyboard is WAY TOO SMALL to use. On installation you have to choose Android Tablet or a Japanese Tablet. No choice for a phone size display or any way I found to change the keyboard size. I didn't play too deeply to try to resolve.
Here was technique I used. (You are on your own usual warning....)
TOOLS
Root Explorer
A Rooted G-Note
1. Root Explorer search "Swype".
2. Take screen shot of where the Swype folder and files are so you remember how to put it back together.
3. Move all Swype files and folder to a new Swype backup folder for safety (I think I had to change some permissions to do this). It was one folder in /data/data 2 files in /system/app and one file in /system/lib
4. Get a Swype Beta account, download and install it. (I did this months ago so I don't remember it all.) I had the old email from them and just ran the link again
5. Restoring old was just uninstalling Swype Beta and the Swype Installer, putting the folder and files back where they were and re-booting.
Hope it gets worked out. I used Swype 3.25 on a Dell Streak and it was clearly better than what is on the G-Note.

Yeah, word. The Galaxy Note's resolution is totally foreign to the Note, so we have to use stock for now - which blows.
Here you go guys - found a solution posted by user zipxavier on the international Note section.
Here's the APK file - http://www.mediafire.com/?svqyodormoxvgz2
Its the ICS version of the latest beta, works perfectly fine, Dragon Dictation works as well. Not the annoying tablet version.

Swype for 651.167.21.X910.Vodofone.en.EU

Please, help me find Swype 3.25. (libSwypeCore.so and /system/app/Swype.apk) for 651.167.21.X910.Vodofone.en.EU.
It Swype with many languages, but without Russian. I deleted it without backup. That why I'll have problems with update to ICS.: Плакать:

[Q] 4.4.2 & Missing Languages

Hello all. I recently Odin-ed back to stock 4.3 to take the 4.4 update via Kies. I rooted with TowelRoot no problem but when I went to enable languages (using various apps from Play Store that previously worked fine), nothing happened. Later I found out when I set the locale to ru_RU, in the Android Settings menu the *current* language says Russian (in Russian) however only 2 or 3 languages are actually listed as available for selection. System apps and the UI are NOT in Russian, however 3rd party apps supporting this language are.
Questions:
1. Are the languages included in the ROM and are just not enabled? (I doubt it)
2. If the languages aren't in the ROM, is there a way to add them? (I also doubt it)
3. If there's no way to add languages, can I pick an official ROM that I know will have certain languages and if so, where could I find them?
I have an SCH-i535 running NE1.
Any help would be very appreciated.
