[Q] Vibrant: No longer able to pull location via cell towers - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, all...
My Vibrant was working fine after the latest firmware update (GPS gets multiple satellite locks in moments), but now it refuses to update my location via cell towers unless I reboot. It still updates my location over wi-fi and GPS with no problems. I tried doing a factory reset to see if one of my apps was causing the issue, but no dice. I'm just running the stock firmware on a US Vibrant with no mods/ hacks. If you need more info, I can certainly do my best to provide it. Be gentle... This is my first post

Gsm cell location not working after reverting from 2.1 rom

I think after I have installed a 2.1 android rom (I guess it was Kagudroid's) and switched back to MCR3.2b5 (with wiping of course) location determination via gsm cells broke down. I.e. Google Maps and all other apps are unable to determine my location based on only the gsm network (not wifi / gps).
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Wiping one time or another doesn't help me to fix this issue.
I know even put back up the original 2.73.405.5 rom via the RUU. So I would think that everything would work again, since everything is original again. No luck.
Could this mean a hardware failure?
don't think so, unless you don't have any signal at all?
have you tried upgrading to / reflashing the latest radio?
Yep, tried that as well. Doesn't help me. This really annoyes me.
never had this happen sounds a strange one. on your so list is network location app installed?
none of the 2.1 ROMs have the cell location working properly.
Have you done a wipe since you came back from 2.1? If not, there may still be some bits from the 2.1 hanging around somewhere.
As mentioned in my topicstart I did do a wipe. However I have already determined the cause of the problem. It is the provider. Checked that with an other SIM. Furthermore I have come to the conclusion that changing to 2G mode also resolves the problem although I definitely don't want such slow internet (plus changing to 2g is not possible on mcr3.2). I'm gonna contact the provider to see what they can do. Likely that they're having problems with the gsm antenna coordinates after all... Thanks all...!

[Q] 3G only available with WiFi

I've searched everywhere and have been working on this problem all night. I unlocked the Bootloader and Rooted the phone about a month ago and uninstalled bloatware. Haven't had any issues with the new Android marketplace updates or when it's updated apps on my phone. However, over the past 3 weeks, my 3G connection kept dropping off in the Marketplace and on different apps. It shows up as full bars but they're grayed out. They only turn blue when I connect via WiFi (At least I won't go over my data plan!) This sucks because I've been missing important e-mails because G-mail and other apps will only sync when I'm connected to wireless network.
I've cleared the Dalvik cache, went through and rolled back the Android Market place to the stock version. I also restored my APN settings but I'm at a complete loss since none of these things worked.
I haven't posted much because I'd prefer to read and search for the problem online but I'm coming up short here. Should I return it back to AT&T or is there something else I'm missing?
*EDIT: I also realized that I'm having issues with the Bluetooth connection, the GPS connection recently since the upgrade. Finally, I have not had the fingerprint scanner working since before I've rooted and unlocked the BL.

[Q] Why is Google Talk constantly losing connection on mobile data?

Just bought my SGS2 yesterday and flashed it to KI8 and rooted it with CF-Root. Didn't actually test it before flashing but for some reason Google Talk keeps losing connection and signs in very often. Has this got something to do with the modem version losing data connection or is it happening because of some power-save setting?
Today I flashed KI4 and Google Talk has dropped offline a couple of times already. Is my device flawed?
Any suggestions on different modem versions and/or firmwares to try out? Maybe a separate GTalk client?
Has anyone had issues like this? I tried to search the forum but most topics cover connection problems via WiFi and not mobile data.
That happens to me when I don't have a strong connection. I say it's probably a carrier issue.
Then it must be a local issue. My friend has the same phone and same operator, but lives about 150km away from me and his GTalk stays connected.
Is there a way to monitor and/or log the data connection with some software?
I have also run into this problem since rooting. I can't even find google talk on my phone to disable it.

For me it didn't matter if the phone was rooted or not. Wierdest thing is that even if my buddies see me offline, I receive messages immediately when they send one.
Quick update: I found out a way to make signal bars turn green when connected to Google services. Now I can sometimes see that the bars are gray when turning the screen on. So it's clear that my phone disconnects from Google in longer standby.

[Q] In Europe, no GPS fix, why? And how to resolve this?

In summary (due to limited/slow internet access via wifi)
* Phone is a stock Samsung Galaxy S2 - v4.1.2 (UK Three network stock ROM)
* I'm from the UK and GPS works fine over there.
* I'm in Europe for holiday and GPS does not work at all.
Changes so far:
- Changed SIM card
- Added new APN, which includes this line for APN Type, which is default, supl, mms, agps and while Roaming Data works fine, GPS is not connecting at all (e.g. Google Maps, Co-Pilot, etc).
Using an app called GPS Test - it CAN find sats (up to 5 or 6 different sats) but NEVER get a fix at all.
Used an app called Fasterfix and set the server to Europe (I have root) - still no luck.
It CAN find a fix (well sort of, location is incorrect but is close by) if I enabled WiFi from our hotel. But useless when I'm out and about.
What else can I try to resolve this as I will need to use GPS in the next few days time (driving using satnav on my phone)
I have tried to do a search here but the hotel's wifi is pretty crappy/slow. :/
I'd be grateful if anyone could help me to resolve this.
Many thanks!

Flash a new rom!
-Root the phone via CF-Root or the App "Framaroot" from XDA , then install CWM through ROM Manager.
-Then download the ROM.zip you want and install it in CWM.

Thanks for the reply, but in case you've missed it, I am in Europe... I cannot risk doing it in case I brick my ONLY phone that I will need for the rest of my holiday. And I got sucky wifi access to download anything anyway.
BTW, seems overkill to do this... does it REALLY work? If so, why does it work when my stock ROM does not work? I'm just curious...

Oh , sorry.
Try to make a backup via GO Backup (best backup without root acess).
Then make a factory reset and restore the backup.
me too past two day.
I tried many rom: CM 10.1, 10.2, stock 4.1.2...but get same problem.
OK. Here's what's always worked for me so far as GPS is concerned, obviously YMMV & there's no flashing/risk of bricking your phone involved.
If you don't already have GPS Status, get it from Google Play. Go outside to a place that has good line of sight in all directions. Turn mobile data & GPS on & fire up GPS Status. Go into tools/manage A-GPS state & reset A-GPS XTRA Data. Then go back into the same setting & download new ephemeris data (which is essentially tables of satellite positions/where they'll be & when), then close GPS Status. Turn off mobile data & put the phone into flight mode (leave GPS on), then fire up GPS Status again. Wait for as long as it takes (normally not more than 5 minutes) for it to get a good/accurate fix (down to a few mtrs/with plenty of satellites).
Once I do this, it's always enabled me to get accurate/fast fixes for anything up to a couple of weeks until the ephemeris data gets old, in which case you repeat. Obviously if you have network connectivity this will help getting a fix, particularly in 'crowded' urban areas (cities/lots of buildings/poor LOS).
Edit - Also, if the above doesn't work, try this. I understand your reluctance so far as flashing anything goes, but you either want your GPS to work or you don't. Yes, it should 'just work', but there's lots of things in the world that should 'just happen' & they don't for whatever reason. This is how it goes with smartphones. The GPS on the SGS2 is particularly notorious for issues that simply can't be resolved easily for some people.
Flashing another rom or kernel may/may not work, if the GPS drivers are messed up, doing so will give you fresh drivers & may fix the problem if that's what's causing it.

No notifications using Wifi after Lollipop update

Hi everyone,
Last week, I updated my G3 to Lollipop. Ever since then, I have been unable to recieve app notifications when I am on wifi. When I turn off Wifi and use a regular signal, the notifications work fine. They also work fine when I have my phone in airplane mode, with wifi on. But, when I have wifi and the data signal on, they do not work. Ii have already done a factory reset to my phone once, and it has not resolved the issue. Is this a known bug? If so, is there a fix in place? If anyone knows, I'd appreciate any info, as this is becoming quite frustrating.
Matt
This is the dreaded WiFi Sync bug, It doesn't affect all WiFi spots. It just depends on the router you are connected to. It mainly stems from IPV6 issues. There is a fix in the works for the official OTA or you can root, and apply a fix for it. I believe Jasmine ROM has the fix in it, but I cannot say for sure as I do not run custom ROMS. I stick with stock.
This has only really affected me with GMail syncing with a 3rd party app at home. At work, I have no issues.
So, you can either root, flash the fix (search the forums and you'll find the issue) or you can wait until LG/Verizon release the patch for this, or go back to KK.
