I've been playing with my friends android's and i've noticed that the atrix lags:
1) Pinch zoom on the home screen to select to which HS page i wanna go. Instead, we have to press the home button while on the center of the home screen to be able to select the HS page. (not sure if i made myself clear enough)
2) We are stuck in 7 pages! personally, I don't use all 7 pages and I don't like those extra empty pages taking up my ram (even if it's not taking up a considerable amount of ram, it still bugs me when others can just have 3 HS if they wanted to)
3) On the notification drop down list, others have the Power Control buttons to turn on/off wifi and that kinda functions. I know there are apps that add a shortcut bar on the notification screen, but it's not Power Control.
so my question is, Anyone know a way to overcome these issues listed? i can try flashing if necesary.

I know that Launcher Pro has this functionality, not sure about other launcher apps.

There are a few launcher apps that you may want to look at. The 2 popular ones are "Launcher Pro" and "Go". I think both of them can be configured for the number of pages you want.

Motorola included a few widgets that can toggle some of this functionality, but in the stock Atrix builds this is not available from the notification bar.
All that said and if you are a brave soul, you may want to check out some of the custom ROMs available for the Atrix over in the developer forum. The ROMs are generally much alike and free the Atrix from both Motorola and your carrier. The ROMs differ in there themes and minor features.
Hope this helps you and your friend get the most out of the Atrix.
I would check out ADWLauncher, most of these things can be customized.

i find launcher pro works the best for me. should definitely try that out.
Yeah, I've been thinking about Launchers, but I've tried launcher pro and I feel like it's taking even more ram. Because it's a launcher that is running on top of our stock HS, am I wrong?
I currently have Alien ROM on my device with the stock theme, because I cannot live without the one touch call/sms contact widget and also the ability to group apps on the app drawer. Tried the Alien theme and liked it, except for the mentioned "flaws"
Kill the blur launcher and use home switcher to set one by default. No more launcher running on top of another.

Oh! that's a nice one. thanks!
BTW, i just found by accident that if you swype upwards from below the screen, you get the HS selection. (just like the pinch zoom)

On mine with Launcher Pro I use two fingers to pinch, then keep one finger on the screen sliding it to which HS page I want to pick. I just figured this out based on what you were asking about. It is always fun to find some new feature like this that I didn't know existed before. With the stock home launcher from MotoBlur there is a capability to do it, but I long since forgot what that procedure was when I changed to Launcher Pro. LP has all the customizations you are asking for.

iam looking for application doing same what "ADW Notifier" do, Adding notification bubble up of an application icon has to notify you for incoming event such ( SMS,missed call, email, nimbuzz chat... or any application you per-defined) "look how "Chuck Norriz Mode" working in ADW Notifier.
also need it work with any launcher since ADW one working only with adw launcher .
hope iam understandable and will get help from you guys.
thanks
I was just thinking about the same thing. I would love something like this. Maybe there's even a Tasker solution. The only part I don't know about is how to get the "bubble" on the icon.

I haven't found a universal one but there is a similar app available for GO Launcher EX here
or another option is this live wallpaper I used previously called Notification Bubbles

i know there is a lot of alternative solutions, but all of them arrest you in there application. the one with Go launcher need you to use Go launcher only. the notification bubbles using all the screen with addition moving bubbles which you don't need sometimes. all what iam looking for is notification counter marriaged with the application shortcut icon use whatever the launcher be.

No problem, by the way you can turn off the additional bubbles. Then the only time you have them on the screen is when theres a notification ... not as much strain on the battery this way.
Good luck with your search
I would like to make my homescreen look like the one attached.
This is a little mockup I have made. Even if I can get the shortcut list going on the side would be nice. I'm not so sure about the tiles after I finished drawing it.
Any ideas on widgets/launchers is appreciated before I have to actually code something myself. I have been trying to look for widgets etc. that can help me but have come up empty.
Things like this have been done before. Search Android Phone 7. I've never seen one with that app list sidebar. That may be a little hard to recreate but it isn't impossible.
Things you'd need: Icons, Desktop Visualizer, ADW EX or Launcher Pro Plus (Plus is needed for resizing widgets) Minimalistic Text, maybe Phantom Music Control. For the icons like "Games" or "Utilities" you may be able to link the DVR widget to an app called Folder Organizator. Or you could use a widget called SiMi Folder, which would make a shortcut on your homescreen that is like the iPhone's folder thing. You could make the icon of the SiMi Folder transparent.
This is going to take A LOT of resizing, which can get really boring. To avoid headaches, plan everything out before you start. If you want a widget above another widget, the widget you want on the bottom (background) needs to be placed BEFORE the widget you want in front (foreground). You are going to have to resize it over the other widget, not place it on top.
That's all I can think of for right now. The left side should be pretty easy. The right side on the other hand will be a little challenging. My best advice would be to start by making a big plain minimalistic text (MT) widget, then add each app name as a MT widget with a blank background (option is in the MT widget configuration menu) For some help, try the Hubs layout in the Asus Transformer Theme and App section. We have a nice thread there with a similar idea and people there will be more than willing to help. They are a lot better at home screen customization than me.
Anyways, awesome idea! If you make the icons, I'll be happy to help you recreate it!
Thanks for the reply. I've played around with Minimalistic Text and it looks promising, thanks. I had noticed it several times before, but it does not mention it can function to create normal shortcuts too.
Just buying ADW Launcher EX (first purchase, borrowing a debit card now), as I have been using the free version for a while. Will post an update when it goes through and I can play with resizing the widgets.
I am currently playing with Minimalistic Text and I have the text on the screen, but when I assigned the proper functions I found they overlap each other...
Anyone know how to avoid this? (They are created using 5x1 horizontal widgets)

Resize the widgets. I dont know how its done in ADW but i think you can do it by long pressing them.
I have, they are the smallest they can go. The resize outline box is 1 unit high, but when I push the 'button' it shows a 2 unit high selection box...
I'll see if I can get a s/s of each box...
Edit: Nope, too tricky to get the timing.
reminds me of wp7
if you wanna something like that try Launcher 7
https://market.android.com/details?id=info.tikuwarez.launcher3
else you can use desktop visualizer (like mentioned before)
i am using desktop visualizer,too.
but i noticed when you have to restart your phone it takes a while to reload the widgets
How ever it's still fine
I used to use DVR when I first got my phone. The tile layout on the left was an experiment, I don't think I'll use it. The main thing was the right hand side; the list of shortcuts.
Well I worked around the overlapping issue by reapplying them in a different order so they underlap instead.
Now I'll work on another layout I like for the rest of my icons, thanks guys
PS: @restarting phone: Who does that?
Edit: For anyone who cares:
Use MT to make a 5x1 widget, use the vertical top alignment and both horizontal ones right.
Don't show background.
Choose custom layout and remove the three existing sections and add a 'static text' one from under Misc.
I choose normal (not default) text and change it to 30dip (that fits my applications nicely on my 800x480px screen).
Choose launch another application and choose the application you want to launch.
Start from the bottom of the screen and work your way up, placing the background last.

OO thanks! I'll wait til you finish the whole thing to try it out but it looks like its going to be awesome.
I'll post a new thread when I've accomplished it
Hi
is there any progress on this topic? is the new thread already open?
It's 12:40am here. A new thread will be made tomorrow after I've finished the homescreen.
I would love some of my apps to show notifications on the icons, does anybody know if/how this is possible in touchwiz? Particularly for missed call count, K9 mail, sms/mms, & whatsapp.
If not in touchwiz, would installing a launcher do this, if so which ones have this feature?
My phone is international GS3, not rooted or anything.
Thanks
Use nova launcher =)
Hi, thanks. Yes I looked at Nova in the store, but it only says "Unread count badges for SMS, Missed calls and Gmail".
It doesn't mention whatsapp, and I don't use the Gmail app I use k9 mail so not sure if it would work?
I would try it, but its only the paid versions of these launchers that allow unread counts, so I don't want to buy any unless I know they can do what I am looking for.
Can you or anybody who uses launchers confirm or rule out for me, whether or not any launchers work specifically with; Whatsapp & K9 mail?
Holo launcher does and its better than nova.
Or missed it.

Hi thanks, can you confirm whether it works with whatsapp or not?
Just looked in the store and it says "Unread count notifications for call, sms, gmail and K-9 mail"
Can confirm no whatsapp squire... however you do get to choose the app for the notification. Maybe something like missed it would do the job but as I don't have it I can't confirm sorry.

Thanks for the info, just reading reviews and missed it gets quite a few bad ones and its not really what I was after.
Holo is closest so far.
Do any launchers show icon notifications for whatsapp?
Sorry I couldn't help more fella. Not sure if any launcher caters for whatsapp but I would assume there must be something out there

No problem, I appreciate your help
Hopefully somebody will know.... Whatsapp icon notifications anybody?
It should be working with Nova + TeslaUnread + Missed IT. Set Missed IT as provider in Tesla unreadBut can't verify it myself.
Thanks.
I have emailed the following developers asking for confirmations before I purchase as nobody seems sure and I don't want to waste my money if they don't do what I want.
1) Holo Launcher
2) Nova Launcher
3) Apex Launcher
4) Go Launcher
5) TeslaUnread
6) Missed it
When I get replies I will update for other to see.
In the meantime if anybody can confirm if they use any particular launcher for icon notifications on Whatsapp messenger and K9 that would be great.
Well, its not looking promising. I'm surprised that what I consider to be a very basic attribute, seems not able to be implemented on android.
Disappointing.
Can anybody prove me wrong...
Hi,
I can confirm Nova Launcher Prime + Missed It! get the number of Whatsapp's unread messages, see my capture below.
[EDIT] Here's the process to make it working :
Install Nova Launcher, buy Prime licence, launch Prime licence to enable the extended options, go into Nova Launcher config, select "Number of unread" option, then select "Provider" => "Missed It!".
Install Missed It!, lauch it, go to Options => Shared Elements, hit the menu softkey and select "add", in the popup menu Applications and to finish Whatsapp, done.
Options may don't have those name as I've a French menu and translated what I see, but here's the main process. Also, Missed It! can handle many applications it's really great.
Also the count is shown everywhere, app menu, menu bar, desktop... On my capture it's in a subfolder of my menu bar.
Fantastic, thank you very much I really appreciate it

Thats very helpful of you Im very grateful, thank you.
I have been trying to get it to work, but with 'missed it', it says it must be enabled as an Accessibility Service to be able to receive application notifications ('Settings » Accessibility » Accessibility services'). But when it is enabled it talks all actions. So I cant really use it at the moment as its very annoying when it talks all actions.
Is there a way around this?
Edit - I had to disable Google TTS & Samsung TTS. Seems that its a samsung/google bug rather than a Missed It! bug.

LoganMcClay, just to say a big thank you. Its working perfectly now and your instructions were spot on.
Very happy

I've been trying out every launcher under the sun and decided to settle on the Google Now launcher, which is totally sweet as you can just say Ok Google soon as you unlock your watch which is very cool.... However, how on earth do you get to see the notification bar??? Every launcher except stock and OUI2 hide it for some reason... anyone have any ideas??
I use both the Google Now launcher and stock (I don't like OUI at all). I switch between OK Google and stock for the notification bar. Some use an app to display notifications, but there are reportedly issues with swiping down with it installed, etc. SwipeStatusBar or something like that.

I find there are some issues with the Now Launcher and compared it with Nova Prime...
Now Launcher
Pros:
OK Google hot word works soon as you unlock your phone (Best feature ever!)
Now Cards when you swipe left....
Cons:
Can't seem to easily add another page
Scrolling is a bit laggy and not quite as sensitive, seems to try and open an app quite a bit, you have to be quite deliberate with your page scrolls.
Nova Launcher Prime:
Pros:
You can resize icons & remove app names to save space.
Very fast page scrolling
Seems to be easier to add widgets I like "One More Clock" widget...
Cons:
Can't say "OK Google, order me pizza!" ;(
Is there a Google Now widget or something???

you can set nova with ok google commands or in that case whatever you want to say like "ok phone listen to me..." by using an app called tasker and an app called autovoice. Look on youtube and you can find some great tutorials.
I did a bit of digging around and found SwipeStatusBar to be a good app for Apex - I made the adjustment so it fits on the top right of my screen.
I got the name from someone on here, but I've forgotten who - sorry!
