[Q] How to get to my nandroid backup?? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

first of all I'm really stupid when it comes to flashing this roms.... and even though i know that i flashed a rom i think the name of the rom was r3, which was suppose to be the software for the FFC of the vibrant. i fu.. up really bad and now my phone is stuck in the GALAXY S gt 19000.... knowing tht i might not be able to install the flash correctly i did a nandroid backup... but when i go into system recovery(pressing the up and down button and the power) i only get 4 options the reboot system, reinstall packages, delete all user data, and delete cache data.... but i dont know how to get into the nandroid recovery....

What your doing is entering stock recovery. You need to enter clockwork recovery (nandroid is a feature of clock work). You can enter clockwork recovery through stock by selecting "reinstall packages." This should bring you into another recovery with more options. Select nandroid/back up and restore. I believe the option is not named nandroid in the new update in clockwork recovery in order to avoid confusion....

every time i do thst it says E:can't open/sdcard/update.zip no such file.. installation aborted

ahhh and my volume button are al messed up the up button is down now and the down button is up now... did i just broke my phone???

It looks like you installed Eugenes newest froyo which wipes everything on your internal memory so that means your CW update zip file and your nandroid backup was deleted as well.
Same happen to me So I just started all over again flashing back to stock with odin and going with Bionix fusion, it also have FFC support as well.
P.S.your phone is not broken, you just need to decide where you want to go from here,

im trying to do that my problem is that i have a mac and i cant really find a video or a guide that shows me how to flash odin using a mac..... do u happen to know how to???

wow, dont know how to do that.
Do you have adb set up? If so you can use android commander to transfer the CW udate zip to your internal sd card. I can upload to for you if you need. Once you have that you can The 2.1 Vibrant kernel then flash any rom of your choice.
Or find a freind that had a pc and use odin from there.
Did you give the phone enough time to boot up? Give it at least 10min.

yes i downloaded the adb. i have my phone in download mode. i dont know where to get the android command...

sorry dude, just read its for windows only. Hmm!

I get the same message after backing up the ROM in CW. I do however see a recovery-update.zip file inside Clockworkmod folder on SDCard.
How come the update.zip file is not placed on the root after the ROM backup is complete? What am I doing wrong?
UPDATE:
I renamed the file to update.zip and placed it on the root. Tested and worked!

Bad update.zip?

Ok, so I'm kinda new to the whole rooting, recovery, etc, but after successfully rooting my phone last week, I felt like trying to do something simple like putting on Community Rom or a different boot-up animation. I followed this thread for Community Rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053567
Which then references other links to download the files necessary to flash the Community Rom to the Fascinate. Problem is, I cannot get 'Update.zip' from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046855
The update.zip link goes to a 404 not found page, so I can't finish the rest of this.
What I have done so far is installed ODIN on my PC and flashed Clockworkmod, though its not the same one I see referenced on XDA....the filename is
"cwm-recovery-ALL-3-30-FIX". Would this make an difference at all? I got it on my phone and it works when I boot into recovery, but it gives the stock blue screen and not the CWM screen (which I understand should be red) and I guess this is because I don't have Update.zip or something, so I can't flash anything using CWM at the moment.
I did find an 'update.zip' file somewhere (I really don't remember where now), and I put this on the root of my sdcard, but when I go into record and select 'Apply sdcard/update.zip' it shows that it's trying to do something (a progress bar moves across the screen very quickly), but then I get a triangle with an exclamation mark inside and the Android underneath it and nothing else happens. I left it for at least 5 mins and still nothing happened. The only way I can get back to the phone normally is to pull the battery out, put it back in and reboot the phone from the stock recovery.
Can someone help me out? Do I have a crap 'Update.zip' file and if so where do I get a good one from?
My specs for my phone are:
Hardware ver. I500.04

Ok, I guess I'm kinda confused now. I already have CWM on my phone. Are you saying that I should use Odin to put the version of CWM on from here and I won't need update.zip?
Update.zip is not needed, the cwm replaces the stock recovery in the phones flash memory

You already have cwm on your phone and the recovery 3-30 file is fine, download comm rom and it put on the root of your phones sd card (ie.not in a folder)...if you download it right from your phone it will be in a file that your downloads will be in..most likely tapatalk download, download, or downloads... the point is you want to be able to find it easily.boot into recovery and
Do a factory data reset, also wipe cache, and go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache . After doing those three things locate the comm rom file and install..reboot and enjoy!
If you did odin recovery and then did not flash anything the stock kernel will re write recovery and you will have to re-odin recovery again...so if I were you I would....odin recovery...put the batt back in, three finger boot into cwm flash your rom and or kernel and done

Maybe that's what happened then, I used Odin to put CWM on, but didn't flash anything after that. I'll go ahead and try again and see what happens.
So, why does everyone say you need update.zip all the time after you Odin CWM on the phone?

You use to have to use update.zip but that is not the case anymore...and since you didn't flash anything after recovery you will have to re-do it, so if u did not already download the com rom file you will have to boot up...download comm rom...(i recommend the one with the otb kernel because you can overclock and undervolt with the voltage control app), pull the batt, odin recovery...that 3-30 recovery file is what works for me, put the batt back in and boot directly into recovery at this point I would suggest going to backup and restore and doing a nandroid back up btw power button is accept and menu button is go back...this willsave your phone exactly like it is now just in case things get screwy you will have a point to go back to ( but do not try to restore that back up in the future with out first disabling the voo doo lag fix) after your nandroid is done ,wipe data/cache/dalvik, navigate to wherever your comm rom zip is...install reboot and done...this process will take a few minutes and it's important to be patient...if you are fully stock as if right now you will hear a robotic lady saying stuff as your phone boots up...this is all normal and what you want to hear..once it reboots you can start playing around and setting it up the way you like it
One more suggestion is to use titanium backup and back up all of your apps prior to flashing and after your flash just restore all the apps...not data..i also export all of my contacts to the sd card not g mail cause I've lost contacts before so I just export to sd..flash and import them..that's what works for me...good luck..happy flashing!

Thanks efan, that worked perfectly this time. I now have Comm Rom on my phone and like you said, didn't need update.zip at all.
Edited as I thought I was having problems after with Android Market, but its fine now.

Help Installing Custom ROM

I'm trying to install this ROM on my Vibrant that's currently running KB5.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1105037
I saved the .zip file to my SD Card.
I installed ROM Manager and Flashed ClockworkMod Recovery. I'm rooted, so I got the superuser prompt which I said allow to.
I then went to Install ROM from SD Card and chose my ROM. I clicked ok to reboot the phone.
When it booted up, nothing installed and there were no options to install anything.
The top of the screen said Android system recovery (3e) then under it, Samsung Recover Utils.
Doesn't look like I'm booting to CWM.
What am I doing wrong?

go to rom manager and click boot to recovery or something like that, should take you to red or green recovery
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
install rom/file from sd and go down to project v then yes
let it install
go to advanced
wipe dalvik and fix permissions
reboot
leave it for 10 min (dont touch anything)
reboot again
Nope. When I boot to recovery, I get the same screen as if I choose install rom from SD card.
There's nothing about install from SD card on that screen.
Any other ideas?

you need to do that to be able to get into clockwork recovery i think
havent dont it for awhile
3e stock is the issue. Backup. Odin to jfd. Flash the update. Zip, no need for rom manager. Much easier.
Check the noob guide in my signature.
Write, that's a pain. How do I just flash the zip once I'm back on jfd?
Odin, root, flash takes 10 minutes.
Start downloading the files, while you wait read my guide to find the easiest method.
Ok. I'll try that.
Not clear exactly what I do after I ODIN jfd and reboot.
I have the ROM I want on my SDCard. What do I do with update.zip? Am I using CWM to flash the ROM or what's the way to do it without that?

Too late for that. I'm flashing jfd now.
Ok. Files downloaded. Doing ODIN now.
Did I need to do anything with that update.zip?
Stand by, please.
Once jfd boots, move my update to internal root with your rom.
Your phone can be on, both volume s and power for about 9 second, release at Vibrant logo
Stock recovery
Reinstall packages
Do it again
Cwr
Now flash your rom
Boom
Ok. Got CWM to come up and choose to install my zip.
Says Installing: SDCARD: Project_V_06.......
Finding update package....
Been that way for a couple of minutes.
I think something is wrong. It's definitely just stuck there.
EDIT: I did a battery pull, then back into recovery and the ROM is installing now.
I guess it wasn't such a pain. My wife will kill me if I screw this up.
I guess that I figured once I went to JFD, there's really no going back, but if I flashed the ROM directly from the 2.2 ROM I was on, it was a major process anyhow and it wouldn't have been any easier going back.
Waiting for ROM to boot and will then let it sit idle for 10 minutes per instructions.
I really hope this works better than the stock ROM and doesn't have any showstopper bugs or I'll never hear the end.
And hope that my Titanium backup gets everything pretty much back the way it was.
I did backup TWLauncher with Titanium. Can I restore that to this ROM to get my home screen icons back or am I going to need to rebuild my home screen icons because it's a different TWLauncher version?
Cool, linda should be installing voodoo. You're golden.
I'm also on V. Strongly suggest his trigger theme on top. If you have not amazing signal, try the ka6 modem. Only issue with V, I can't stand the stock browser after having the cm7 browser.
I use adw ex, no clue what versions are there.
If you have the paid version of TB, restoring apps is cake. Avoid system apps, do NOT restore those.

Yes, I didn't even back up system apps. I've gone through that on my Droid X and you get the sync thing to never go away.
Maybe I'll try that KA6 modem. I flash that via ODIN, right? Why KA6, in particular?
I think we'll stick with the stock theme
Don't try ka6 until you feel you need to. There are flashable versions.
No stock keyboard included!?
Any way to get that back? I'm sure she's used to using the keyboard the way it was and won't want to learn an alternative keyboard.
I ran bloater and found samsung keyboard and wifi calling there and it says it's installing, but they don't.

[Q] HELP!!! flashed CWM to my 2.3.5 Fascinate, now i cant get out of recovery

used oden to flash CWM. now i cant boot into android, it just keeps kicking me into CWM recovery.
anyone see this? any suggestions? would a wipe fix it?
did you flash a rom if so which one?
no ROMs, simply just tried flashing CWM via Odin
may i ask why 2.3.5?
what were you trying to do?
i am still able to get into Download mode to flash files via Odin, so i dont think all is lost. but, still just stuck in recovery. when i try to reboot it just takes me right back into recovery. i may have flashed an incorrect version of CWM which could be the cause of this problem. if that was the case, any ideas as to how i can get back into a proper boot?

I was trying to flash CWM so i could flash a custom ROM. Had this phone forever and was just looking to try out some ROMs out there.
As long as you odin cwm none of your os is really touched.
try the cwm 4 fixed for cm7. http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1311907538
Now when you reboot your device the stock kernel will over right the cwm.
also make sure you put the odin file in the PDA section.
So basically flash the new cwm and try booting into normal that should get you back where you started from. 100% stock.
that link didnt work. tried searching for the thread without any luck
for some reason it truncated the link with a '...' and it thinks that is part of the hyperlink

thanks.. so i flashed this via odin. same problem. i start the phone. the samsung logo comes up. it disappears for a second. then it comes back up and kicks me into recovery.
weird right? any suggestions
ok then what is your endgame?
Now before you said you flashed just the CWM, may i ask why...if you did not intend to flash a rom? were you going to flash a Kernel or obtain root?
Perhaps you should try this
Download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278838
It is a custom kernel.
Now Flash CWM with odin
Put battery back in [dont touch power button yet]
Hold down BOTH volume and Power all at once * Dont let go until you see Samsung Logo.
[should still be plugged into pc via usb]
You will boot into CWM
using the volume up and down-Scroll down to Mounts and storage [select it by hitting the power button]
Then scroll to Mout USB storage
~now you should be able to see your SDCard as storage on your PC, put the Kernel some where on your SD Card~
[back on your phone Then Select Unmount
Scroll to ****Go bacK***** [select]
Scroll to install zip from sd card [select]
Select choose zip from sdcard
Navigate to where you have the zip
Select it
Scroll down to Yes-Flash........
Let the phone do its thing!
Good luck!
Your bootlooped...if you can get into cwm wipe all three and flash a rom thats compatible with the version of cwm you have installed. Or odin back to stock and start over...

Formatted my phone, not it won't boot!

Well let me start off by saying that I "updated" CMW through ROM manager. Big mistake it was actually a downgrade after using CMW Touch. So I decided to change it back, but for some reason the version that I was directed to use from ROM Manager had problems seeing files and directories.
So...I couldn't get access to the zip to flash again.
With my OCD and having a ton of useless directories and files already on my phone I said screw it, mounted my USB and copied my files over to my PC and then FORMATTED the entire phone.
Then installed CMW Touch through Odin v1.85. Success...
But my phone is stuck at the boot logo. Is there a way to flash a custom ROM from this point via Odin?
I am NOT worried about the flash counter. I just want my phone fixed

I thought I could mount usb storage there and drag over a ROM and then flash it, but my computer isn't detecting it when it's mounted, or I'm doing something wrong...?

Trying adb push 'ROM' /sdcard right now....
Well I got the ROM onto my card, but when I flash it I'm getting an error Status 7....
"assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "SGH-I717" ||, then it repeats and says quincyatt.... I'm thinking since this in the nightly build of CM9 that my device should be named quincyatt and it's not since I don't have CMW for this ROM???
No one?
I would use either strategy:
1. Get the Gingerbread Odin 1Click package. This will install driver, Odin, then format and flash GB rom.
2. Use Kies ICS upgrade site, go to tools, then do an emergency firmware installation.
Then flash CWM kernel for recovery.
If you can push twrp to you phone, then flash version 2.2.1.1. You will be able to install cm9 successfully through that recovery. If you don't want to do that, then push a different ROM to your phone and flash that.
Excuse me for diverting the thread a little, but . . .
@froidroid:
I don't use that recovery -- what is the difference/advantage of it over CWM? TIA
I would say just a personal preference ultimately. The reason I suggested it for him was so he could flash cm9. Cm9 won't flash with his current recovery. I would definitely suggest giving it a try. The UI is amazing and there are a few more options that aren't available in cwm.
Did I mention a nandroid takes less than 5 minutes? Best part imho
Thats a gooood selling point.
At this point I'd say flash stock through Odin and start over...as long as you've copied over your important files...

What I was able to do was push the newest version of CWM onto my phone via ADB. But it was tricky because it came as a stand-alone file (recovery.img) so I did some searching to find an actual Update.zip for CWM and replaced the recovery.img in that zip with the new recovery.img
Then pushed with ADB (adb push update.zip /sdcard) and updated

[Q] Android in boot loop, how to backup contacts?

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Mini with stock Android 2.2, not rooted and USB debugging is not on. Now the phone memory was quite full so I tried to remove the Street View app, but now the phone is stuck in boot loop mode. The Samsung logo is just glowing and the phone vibrates now and then.
I can get into download mode and recovery mode. I think I can flash a new firmware in download mode and then the phone would work fine then, but my big question is how I can save all my data (contacts, notes and so on)? Is it possible to backup an image before flashing, in recovery mode? Or is it possible to save just all my own files (contacts, sms and so on, and not the whole system)?
I guess everything will be flashed over when I reflash? Or is it in some way possible to reflash a new rom (maybe it needs to be the same 2.2 then?), so that my personal data will stay? I also tried to download files with "adb pull" but the /data folder can't be mounted, it just says permission denied, so I can't access my personal data with adb.
Are your contacts online in your Google account?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Xparent SkyBlue Tapatalk 2
so there are many possibilities...
if your phone boot loops:
1. install cwm recovery
2. make a full backup
3. you can try to flash a custom rom (without wipe). maybe it works. if not follow step 4.
4. do a full wipe
5. install a rom
6. root your phone (if you install a custom rom its already rooted)
7. copy the file "data.zip" (or something like that) to your computer and unpack it.
8. copy the files/folder you need with adb to your phone.
if your phone doesnt boot loop (phone stucks at boot) :
1. root your phone
2. copy the files you need with adb
3. install a new rom and copy the files back to your phone
i dont know if it will work but i think it will. and please dont brick your phone while installing cwm
sorry for my bad englisch
Unfortunately I didn't have contacts sync to google on, so I don't have them backuped there.
Is it possible to install cwm on Android 2.2 which is not rooted? I understood it requires 2.3?
Is this the right way to install cwm recovery? wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Mini:_Full_Update_Guide#Installing_the_ClockworkMod_Recovery
edit: the guide seems to be for Android 2.3 and I think I had the stock 2.2, so is there any way to do it with 2.2?
Well now I managed to install cwm recovery with this guide: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342190 and the CWM-Froyo.tar found there.
I tried to do a backup to sd card in cwm recovery, but found only boot.img and recovery.img files on the card, both sized 8192kb, and I don't think they include the whole system. It seems to be impossible to mount the /data folder from there, maybe because the phone is not rooted. Can somebody help me how I should continue?
How can I flash a custom (or stock) rom without wipe, or is there any other way to get my own data?

you cant mount /system, /data and so on because the recovery you flashed supports only ext4 filesystems. but stock roms use rfs filesystem. so you need a cwm version that supports rfs + ext4.

Okay, but I can't seem to find a cwm recovery version that supports rfs + ext4, for Galaxy Mini. If there is none with rfs support, are there any ways left then? How would I flash a stock or modified rom without wiping my data?
I don't think I can get back to stock recovery anymore as I now have cwm, and also I haven't found any guide how to do it on android 2.2, on gingerbread is seems possible.
you cant flash a custom rom without wipe because the filesystem of the partitions is rfs and all custom roms use ext4 (as far as i know).
i search a bit in the web if there is anothr way. i will write it if i find something

Thanks, but unfortunately that one didn't work either, now the phone seems even a bit more bricked because now it only shows the Samsung still logo, and I can't get into recovery mode. Maybe it was for android 2.3.
But it still goes into download mode, is it possible then to reflash a stock rom, without wiping my /data with contacts and so on? How should I do it in Odin, without wiping my data? Or is there some other more safe way?
i think there is no chance anymore
if you flash a stock rom with odin it will wipe everything and there is no option to flash without wipe (as i know)
sorry but i have no idea anymore.
flash a stock rom with odin and post at facebook or something like that (if you are using it) that you need the numbers of your friends, family, etc

Okay.. How are the stock updates installed then, because I've understood that they don't always wipe? Is it impossible to just overwrite the existing files with all files from a stock android 2.2 image? Why isn't it possible to dump the content of the entire flash memory...
I know I can get the most important phone numbers, and I also have an almost one year backup in Kies, but I was kind of hoping to also get my notes that are written with the notes app. Maybe I still should try to install CWM recovery in download mode if it would help anything. I think sending the phone for warranty repair also won't help if it's impossible to get the files.
Edit:
Mohazia: Where in Odin should I unselect that wipe all? I can't find such marking: forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=782552&d=1321297175
Now I reinstalled the CWM I had earlier, and now the phone boot loops just as earlier. How can I now reflash a stock image of android 2.2, without wiping data?
Is it, or is it not possible to flash a stock image without wiping data, from odin? Can I install some of the 2.2 images from here: yagyagaire.blogspot.fi/2012/01/official-samsung-firmwares.html
In the image I found the following files:
APBOOT_S5570XXJL9_CL816096_REV02_user_mid_false.tar.md5
CODE_S5570XXJL9_CL816096_REV02_user_mid_false.tar.md5
CSC_S5570SERJL9_CL816096_REV02_user_mid_false.tar.md5
MODEM_S5570XXJL9_CL816096_REV02.tar.md5
TASS_v1.0.ops
Should I install some of them, or all, if I want to keep my personal data?

OK, Now we have 2 options,
If it only the Street View issue, you can download update.zip file and put it in the root of SD-Card, and flash it via CWM.
The Other Option is to use ODIN 4.38 and make sure to select Debug Only, and sure you have to remove One Package, and sure
OPS: TASS_v1.0.ops
BOOT: APBOOT_S5570XXJL9_CL816096_REV02_user_mid_false.ta r.md5
Phone: MODEM_S5570XXJL9_CL816096_REV02.tar.md5
PDA; CODE_S5570XXJL9_CL816096_REV02_user_mid_false.tar. md5
CSC: CSC_S5570SERJL9_CL816096_REV02_user_mid_false.tar. md5
all hopes, but never to forget to
1- root
2- switch USB Debugging Mode
3- upload your contacts to Gmail Contacts
4- Install SMS Backup+
5- GNote
so, what ever happen, your data is safe :fingers-crossed:
Thanks a lot for the help but unfortunately it didn't help. The update.zip didn't make any difference, and flashing through Odin made the system work, but the contacts are not there. It now has a different language, so that might be a reason, the version was not totally the same. I had debug only selected so that is not the reason. I guess there is nothing to do anymore, but at least the system works now...

Sorry for lossing ur contacts, maybe because you select deferent frameware version than existed.
maybe for update.zip, 2 reasons, either there is some else than street view, or you have to mount system 1st.
anyhow, nothing to do now
now, go to sync every things for future

he cant mount system because his cwm version supports only ext4 but the filesystem of a stock rom is rfs.

Just for trying I tried and made some contacts and notes, and then I reflashed the same version from Odin the same way, and they was gone. So it seems impossible to reflash from Odin without wiping data. Maybe JTAG is the only way to get stuff out from a boot looping phone with stock 2.2 then.
