I just posted a something yesterday that this girl I'm dating has a beat up MT3G and she has 2.2. It's crazy right?
So your wife's Honda Accord just got a new engine and you are upset because your BMW is still on the engine the car came with?

LMAO!!!! I agree...I have no problems with my phone and its stock, I will wait for 2.2 patiently.
Just go buy a Nexus One.

Now if Google drops Gingerbread before we get Froyo... thats grounds for an ass kicking for Samsung & T-mobile!

they may be full of it, but it does show that they did provide on their promise. now that its running 2.2 (the mytouch), I can see why it took so long to release it. mytouch hardware was not really made to support it, and it shows, but maybe thats just because im so used to my vibrant that when i pick up her mytouch there is no comparison

To be fair, apart from the dev phone (Nexus One) it was six months after the announcement and nearly four months after the actual unveiling of 2.2 code, before ANY DEVICES (apart from the Nexus One) had 2.2 officially in any form.
I expect the same to happen when 2.3 drops. This just seems to be how Google prefers to foster development, whilst staying out of the way of what manufacturers want to do with their little OS.
With that out of the way I guess I'll just chime in and say I wish Samsung hadn't wasted precious development time with refinements to 2.1 (JI6 insofar as we are concerned) and simply gotten 2.2 out the door.
p.s. One of my friends has an original MT3G, and it's slower than smoke off of s**t running 2.2, but even that is a vast improvement over what it was running.
Well, I wouldn't put too much on t-mobile because they're not the one that is developing the driver for the phone or even the os. They probably just develop the bloatware they want pre-installed on the phone. With that said, I think it is pretty much up to samsung on releasing a full working Froyo because they are the ones that will need to update the hardware driver to work with Froyo. It's like going from XP to Win7.
I just checked my wife's mytouch v2 and it shows her up to date on updates with 1.6??? Her phone is completely stock so no root. This update was OTA right??

I'm actually hopeful that the Eris will get an official 2.2 update. I've been with Verizon for many years and if they want to keep me under contract they better keep me satisfied....which means keep my phone up-to-date (somewhat) at least until the end of my 2 years. Not that it really matters, seeing as we have awesome developers that put us on Froyo before most phones got their OTA.
On a side note. Anyone heard the rumors of Android 2.5?

The Eris isn't mentioned but the implications are that our phone will get 10.1 flash.
By this I mean our phone is HTC and the Incredible is HTC. Once it gets official OTA we can port it to the Eris and try to get flash working for us. I think that's what TC must have meant.
The sales rep at the Verizon store told me all the Droid phones were getting 2.2 rolled out including the Eris. I saw some sales reps using it still so it's still a pretty widely used phone.

One incentive for Verizon to update the Eris to Froyo would be not to disgruntle existing customers and causing them to leave the network when their contract is up. I know, me personally, that I'm pretty disgruntled about the quality of service they give us Eris owners.
Gingerbread is going to be Android 3.0, and will have a recommended CPU speed of 1 GHz. Yes, devs will probably get it running on the Eris, but the hardware might just be too depreciated by that point to run it.

Anyone know exactly how many official dates Samsung/T-Mobile have now officially failed to do this simple task that so many xda devs did long ago? Since it is clearly ready (available to rooted SGS phones) does that mean the culprit here is T-Mobile? They already have awful service and only 1 good phone. This failure seems like their death wish.
I wouldnt go so far as to say it is ready. The recent 2.2 roms are really good but they still have some minor issues like the headphone jack problem.
On twitter, all Samsung/TMO say is by the end of the year so lets just leave it at that.

Coming from the GSM HTC Hero it's now my understanding that the carriers and manufacturers have ZERO incentive to rush out any update to your phone. I bought the Hero because HTC said Éclair was just around the corner, well not so fast. It didn't come all that quickly after many excuses. It took them a month of Sunday's to finally release it when their EVO was running Froyo.
This time I didn't buy the Vibrant expecting an update anytime soon so I'm not disappointed. BTW, don't expect an official Gingerbread release from Samsung.
Say what you will about Apple but at least they update the phones.
Thats why i jumped ship from tmo because they did the same thing with the original mytouch witch i haD they said we would get froyo way back in febuary then they said march tgen april and so on so back in september i finally terminated my contract then a month later they roled it out of no were i was pretty pissed lmao

Lol, CM7 is a joke on the Vibrant. CyanogenMod is always a step ahead of the drivers available for Samsung devices, so it will *never* work properly on a Samsung. By the time they have what they need to make it work, they're already pushing out a new "no wifi no gps no nothing useful" version. Nothing against CyanogenMod, but... Try CM7 (or any version) is never much of an answer on the Vibrant and recommending it to anyone is pointless.
That said...
Every time anyone posts a thread asking when, T-Mobile kills a kitten, Baby Jesus cries, and another week will go by before the update.

From the thread on CM7 for the Vibrant:
Known bugs:
You can't get into recovery/download without the 3 buttons combo. (You can't from inside the ROM, so do NOT flash if you can't use the 3 button combo.)
Problems switching between 2G and 3G when data is connected. (You may get un-reliable data.)
Compass. (works not at 100%)
Video playback may be choppy with some formats.
GPS is broken.
May have many other bugs that are unlisted.
Polling problem on RIL (Works after you lock and unlock your phone.)
USB Tethering is currently broken
Battery life has significantly improved with latest unofficial nightly (3/31) and the latest Additional kernel. See below. However, it is still not as good as stock.

Gingerbread 2.3.4 on the Droid 3 is really something else. Got one for my girlfriend and the UI along with the animations are ultra crisp and super quick. I've always been against Blur, but after seeing the Droid 3- I really hope the DX2 grabs that same Blur with the update.

I have my phone rooted and a lot of bloat frozen with TBP so should I defrost those before doing the update and also undo root?
I'm new to android, so silly question, but if you upgrade to GB will your phone be factory reset / loose apk's / contacts / etc?

By the way, before somebody posts that my battery life went up to three weeks with the latest leak, save your breath -I don't believe it.
Been a frequent visitor to the Verizon page and this is the first time I seen that article. Could be wrong but I have a very good feeling that ICS is coming sooner then many on this forum thinks. I sure hope it does, coming from the Thunderbolt just a few weeks ago I have been holding off Unlocking the Bootloader and rooting this thing. This is the first phone I have bought that I have not rooted and flashed a Rom within just a few hours of buying it. This phone is a beast, love it.

I'd be ironic if the "update" is that they are dropping the Rezound price to FREE with a new contract. With the way its been going recently, that announcement is probably not far off..

Sadly i agree. They sure want to shrug this device off, not good business practice.
I waited till April 6th and when I did not see any ICS OTA, I flashed Clean Rom ICS and I am happy with it. I don't know what difference the official upgrade will offer but I am not really excited about it anymore given that I am already running ICS with maybe more than what will be in the upgrade. I don't really care about sense 4.0 because I am running the DEV version of clean Rom with Apex launcher, which in my opinion is even better than Nova.
Was this what the page said before or is it like an updated page.

I was wondering the same thing. My other phones(Samsung Droid Charge, Moto RAZR) update just fine over Wi-Fi. The Rezound is my first HTC phone. It always wants to switch to 4G/3G when checking for updates. I assume this means it will not update to ICS over Wi-Fi. I'm not sure why they designed it this way.
My Rezound is currently being used as a Wi-Fi-only device. (i.e. no Verizon service) I do still have my Galaxy Nexus active on my VZW acct. I figured I can just pop the 4G LTE SIM card into the Rezound when they release the ICS. After it updates, I'll just take the SIM card out and put it back into the Galaxy Nexus. I have a SIM card adapter for this. (Rezound uses standard SIM and Galaxy Nexus uses micro-SIM cards)
Since I have both the Galaxy Nexus and Rezound.... I can't honestly say that I prefer ICS over Gingerbread. ICS has some cool features, but that's about it.... most of the stuff that I do on my Galaxy Nexus doesn't involve ICS-only features. Having said that, I wouldn't mind seeing my Rezound updated to ICS, just so both phones can operate in a similar fashion.
ICS Update Delay
Maybe HTC & Verizon had a change of heart (I tried not to choke while thinking that) and the have decided to include Sense 4.0 with the ICS OTA. Of Course I could win the lottery if I actually bought tickets too!
