I have the 2.1 ROM installed, and when the phone is in my pocket (or the light sensor is covered up), the phone rings at the loudest volume. This is VERY annoying as it scares me and is embarrassing when I am around people. I'm using the "old phone" ringtone.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I have found no toggle anywhere!
Thanks for any help.
Did you try disabling the "Quiet ring on pickup" setting?
I have it currently disabled- I re-enabled it and it still rings UBER loud. I also just flashed to another 2.1 ROM and it is still doing it. I switched ringtones to "Standard 4" amongst others, and they all ring VERY loud. It starts off at the desired volume, but increases significantly until the 3rd ring where it is max volume. If the phone is just sitting on my desk, it rings at the desired volume constantly, but if i cover up the light sensor (any time during the ringing) it quickly goes to the loudest volume. This is getting to be a HUGE problem as this is my work phone and I can't miss calls by not feeling it vibrate, but can't have it ringing at loud volumes in the office!
^ I have the exact same problem! No matter what I have the ring volume set at, it starts out quiet but blasts to full volume. Scares the crap out of me every time!!
I'm at my wits end, this is really annoying! Does anyone know how to resolve this??

Which 2.1 ROM are you using? I'm using the original "leaked" one that doesn't allow rooting and am having the same issue.
I was using the first leaked ROM, and I thought it might be the ROM, so I switched to the "HTC 2.1 Release Candidate (AKA OTA) Leak Rom." Same deal with that one. I might try another one, just in hopes of solving this problem!
Same issue here with the 2.1 HTC OTA one.
I am having this problem too and it is really annoying.
I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the proximity sensor on the phone. However, I don't see a way to disable the volume increase based on that. Perhaps its tied into rosie, since the proximity sensor seems exclusive to HTC.
Saw in another forum that it is a bug in 2.1. I tried the diasble quiet on pickup and that didn't work. Now using Smart Volume Free from the market and that locks in the volume I want. I still was really looking forward to the volume decreasing when I picked it up, not sure if this will help get around it but only solution was Smart Volume for me.
I tried this program, praying that it would work, but the "locked" ring volume is lagged. The phone rings at the loudest ring volume a few times before the "locked" volume takes effect. I guess it's better than full volume the entire time.
bump!! Anyone have a fix for this??
I was just thinking about looking for this thread again and see if anyone found a solution. I am rooted 2.1 and still have this problem. Is there a program or hack to fix this? I just keep my phone on vibrate most of the time because of this.
I downloaded some "Smart Volume" app or something that "locks" the volume, however, it takes a few seconds to kick in after the phone starts ringing. It will ring SUPER loud for 1 or 2 rings then quiet down when the app limits it.
I've resorted to carrying my phone in my pocket when only absolutely necessary and also answering or silencing it VERY quickly once it starts ringing.
SUCCESS! I installed the latest leak (v3) and the issue went away!!!!

I just got my TB about a week ago, And the volume is VERY low compared to my Incredible. Is there a kernel that will boost my volume or an app or something? I'm using Das Bamf at the moment. I can barely hear my ringtone unless its right next to me.
No one else has this problem and found a solution? :|
volume rocker is on the right of the phone. Turn it up. =]
^_^_^
if ur das bamf rom is the gingerbread version download volume+ works amazing. this will make ur volume much louder. but only works on gingerbread not froyo.
I have found a fix for two things that were really bothering me since I went from Froyo to Gingerbread: the incall volume while using the speakerphone and also the tts volume like when getting navigation instructions.
In order to fix the incall volume you need to install an app called Volume+. You can download the premium version for free here: http://androidaudiohacks.com/home/volume-gingerbread
[/B][/COLOR]
Once you download this app, go into the settings and select INCALL [EXPERIMENTAL] and then set the volume steps to 40. This is not supposed to fix the volume but it actually does. You will notice much much higher volume when using the speakerphone during a call now. You might have to be rooted to do this. Sometimes you also need to lower the volume one click and then click up again for the volume to get loud.
In order to fix the tts volume, install an app called SVOX CLASSIC here: https://market.android.com/details?...?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zdm94LmNsYXNzaWMiXQ..
The app itself is free. Once installed you can select from dozens of different voices in many different languages. Once you download and install the voice (I recommend US Grace) then you can go into the voice settings and increase the volume. You also need to make Svox your default TTS engine, that is under the phone settings, then VOICE INPUT & OUTPUT.
The voice files are like $2 but you can install a one week trial. Once you do this, you will have no issues hearing navigation instructions even at highway speeds and with the radio on. An added benefit is that these voices are much more natural imo, well worth the money. You can also set the pitch and speed at what the voice talks to you.
I hope this helps many of you that like me might have been frustrated with the low volume levels during incall and navigation in these great Gingerbread ROMS our amazing developers have been cooking for us.
Thanks.
Downloading and trying today. Will report back with my experience with this on MIUI 1.11.4.
cool! let me know how it goes.
If this works, I will go back to MDT.

Worked for me. Give it a shot. Let me know how it goes.
Many random fc's and delays. Uninstalled and reflashed 1.11.4 without the above suggestions and all seems well.
Thanks for the suggestions though.
Has anyone had these issues since the very early GB releases? All these issues have been fixed for a while. Or am I missing something?
I have my ringer volume on high and in a matter of a minute the phone automatically moves the ring volume very low. I'm missing allot of calls because of it and I can't figure out why it's doing this.. I had the same problem on my captivate and fixed it by installing volume locker, but I want to know how to stop the problem the right way instead of having to mess with a app to stop it. I searched the forums and turned off the flip upside down to mute feature, but that didn't help..and I seen a bunch of other volume issues but not quite like this one. Thanks for the help in advance.
have the same issue on a international Galaxy Note from Asia
Hey,
I have a international Asian' based Galaxy note that was working fine on the older build of the software i bought back in Nov. I updated my software to 2.36 and the volume issue is a pain in the ass. It doesn't matter if your in Edge Mode or 3G mode.
I find it is not as annoying if you have your headset plugged in but as a stand alone or with speaker phone it is very irritating.
I personally think it is a Software issue either from the Sense UI or Google. I know that ICS Ice Cream Sandwich is coming out here soon so hopefully that may fix it.
good luck.

Hi,
i have one question before i return my phone.
Android in general is quite useless for serios music listening and so on because you need to root your phone to unleash the real audio potential or install 3rd party apps to controll the volume.
So far so bad. If you install fine volume control you're able to adjust volume in 1% steps. Besides the ugly interface it doesn't affect the call volume on the earpiece.
Every Android except Galaxy Ace with Android 2.3.5 is way too loud on the lowest volume regarding phone calls. The minimum volume for phone calls on the HTC One X+ is 20% as media could be turned down one more or two steps.
Why on earth is the in-call volume not better manageable?

This was brought up in your previous thread. There was no reason to post it a second time. I believe the consensus there was install another ROM or return the phone.
