Ok, here it goes: I have tried searching for the answer, and haven't quite found the answer that pertains to my situation. I recently flashed Obsidian on my Vibrant and decided to revert back to my backed up stock rom using ClockworkMod Recovery app. My phone then failed to boot past the Vibrant/Samsung screen. I have tried to get into recovery, but the phone only stays on Vibrant/Samsung screen and fails to go to recovery screen. No matter what method is tried to get to recovery, the phone gets stuck on the Vibrant/Samsung screen and will not boot past that or go to recovery. This being said, my question is: When my phone goes back to T-Mobile for warranty, will they be able to tell if its rooted if it doesn't boot and can't get to recovery? Or will they just do their thing and reflash the stock rom thus wiping any evidence?

Another person trying to scam a company..
That being said, It is a 50/50 chance of them knowing, and I hope they do know.
Why dont you odin back to stock and not claim a warranty exchange for something that is your own fault
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Go to the Vibrant android development section and look for the vibrant bible.
once there read up on using ODIN.
USE IT.
Than put down the phone and never flash a rom again until you learn to read directions.
oh and by the way, how bout you NOT try and scam ppl cuz you cant follow simple directions. going to tmobile and filing a claim is BS. YOU are the one responsible for your phone no longer working. Ppl wonder why prices on data plans and other costs go up. They have to keep paying out the ass on other crap that could easily have been avoided had the end user had any durn sense

Can people ever take responsibility for their acts? The warnings posted on all the ROM threads are there for a reason. If you cannot bring your phone back to live with the information available online including these forums just suck it up, be a man.
I know I should take resposibilty for my own actions, but when a phone is supposed to be able to boot into recovery by using the 3-button method, but that method isn't funtioning because Samsung disabled it (like many other people have experienced) how do I take responsibilty for equipment that doesn't do what its supposed to? When the phone doesn't boot into recovery like it is supposed to, how do I fix my own actions. My brick is partly my fault and I know that, but partly a faulty phone.

Not at all! They released a fix for that (JI6)
You were the one who bricked your phone & are trying to scam T-Mobile.

So if J16 was supposed to fix that, why was it that even T-Mobile couldn't get it to boot into recovery?

Ok, first off, you bricked it because JK2 and JI6 or any 2.1 version run on different kernels, and clockwork doesnt install kernels (and this is why you can't go into recovery, not because the phone is faulty.). I did this before and ODIN will fix it right up. Use it.
It will only take about an hour to get everything back the way you want rather than waiting a week or so. No need to file a warranty complaint, this is your fault but very easy to fix.

Because YOU modified your phone, and messed up!
Odin will fix one of your problems. The other can't be fixed...
recovery won't do you any good because it needs the kernel to load.
you need download mode.
with the phone completely off and not connected to the computer, press and hold the vol + and vol - buttons at the same time. then plug in the usb and you'll boot into download mod.
You then go about flashing w/ odin to get your phone working again.
Sorry for making this long. I am totally flummoxed/sad/angry.
My phone has been hard bricked for the 3rd time in a matter of 8-10 days. My vibrant was a hardware locked one when I first got it. Let me explain a brief history of what flashes have been performed on my vibrant:
1) To unlock my Vibrant I flashed this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201
Result: This helped me get Download mode working by pressing Vol Up + Power. But recovery mode was no-go. One thing to notice was that on boot, the screen now says GT-i9000 for a few seconds and then a Vibrant screen for few more seconds.
2) Hence flashed this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804305
Result: Bricked. Phone wouldn't boot. Completely dead. Got it fixed by paying $50. Got it back with stock JFD, Download mode working.
3) Stock JFD, worked fine. Flashed Bionix Fusion final 1.2, Obsidian V2.
Result: All fine. No issues.
4) Flashed Axura 2.0.5
Result: Bricked. Phone dead again. Wouldn't even turn ON. I thought perhaps some random issue must have happened which resulted in bricking my Vibrant. I got it fixed from a local mobile repair-shop who probably jtagged it (or used RIFF box to flash bootloader).
Got it fixed again. Got it back with Stock JFD, Download mode working.
5)First thing I try is flashing Axura.
Result: Got the phone back today. Don't know why, but the first thing I did after getting the phone was rooting JFD, installing ClockWork, booting in CW recovery and flashing Axura again. Guess what, it's bricked again. Wow. Unbelievable. Anyone has any idea whats going on?
Sounds like the axura file your using may be bad. If bionex worked then obviously it must have something to do with axura. Are you wiping before you flash? Do you have any lag fixes on?
it could be a bad copy of axura as stated y not try to odin back to stock ur self maybe it could be something that ur doin wrong when flashing axura... i did brick my fone once but i odin back to stock n fixed everything
Is your phone soft bricked? Does it turn on at all?
Ya, I'd double check the images your flashing. Have you tried another rom yet?
PS. It's a soft brick, which Vibrants are easily recoverable from. A hard brick means you get nothing, it's a useful as a... brick. You can sometimes get back from those with JTAG interfacing.
I think its Axura 2.5.. It keeps doing it to my phone too...
You must really want that ROM to keep trying it after it had bricked you twice.

No. I do not wipe anything before flashing. And no lag fixes on. Directly flashing from JFD stock.

First time it was bricked when I flashed 3 button fix. And It's not that. Just wanted to double check if it is the ROM or something wrong happened first time around.

I'd say avoid the ROM, if others don't cause the issue. Does Axura include a kernel? You could try it replacing the kernel in the package with a different one before flashing.
Invest in the JIG IMO
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
^^Already done that. But it seems that jig helps only people who cannot get into download mode but are soft-bricked (i.e. the display is not completely dead)! Anyways, have given the phone for repair yet again! Planning to sell this piece of **** soon and get G2!
I think you need to stay away from fiddling with your phone.
Master provides md5 sum for every ROM he offers, if download is corrupt the md5 sum won't match and you just don't flash the ROM.
I am having the same problem, my vibrant doesnt turn on, can you point me to where can i have it repaired?? my vibrant doesnt turn on anymore after flashing axura....

There is no such thing as Axura 2.5.. We are still on Axura 2.2 (2.2.7.1 to be specific)
OP, I would make sure your .zip isn't corrupt.
Curious, If you are in India, do they use the Vibrant there, and do they have the same configuration as the USA Vibrant?
Assuming it is the same, when you download a Rom check the the exact quantity of bytes make sure they equal. Often when loading on the phone the phone will compile the upper number to a different sum, the lower number Must be the same.
Re-download what ever rom you want and make sure it matches in sum.
The problem appears not to be the ROM there is something that is happening/doing that is by the user
If you get a G2 you won't do much better. Vibrant is one of the toughest phones to hard brick. You won't last a day with a G2...the problem is not the phone, it's you.

I'm an admitted noob, but my hope is that somebody here will take pity and be able to shed some light on what I've done and how to fix it.
Here is a general high-level list of what I've done:
1. I attempted to root my phone with SuperOneClick (I think 2.3.3)
2. It hung one Step #7 (as I recall) for about 10 minutes.
3. I disconnected USB cable and reset the phone - it wouldn't boot
4. Started researching, discovered Recovery Mode, selected reset to factory.
5. Reset appeared successful, but then phone went into reboot loop.
6. Tried to access Recovery Mode again, but this time it came to different screen, saying "Deleting cryption meta data".
7. Tried flashing several times with odin and stock PDA's suggested in this forum.
8. Same behavior, so flashed CWM 4.0.0.2 (unfortunately it was for I9100)
9. Flashed new CWM 5.0.2.3
10. When I enter Recovery mode now and I select the wipe data/factory reset option, it just goes to a hat icon with a circular arrow and stays there.
Like I said, I'm new here and have already given up hope on recovering any useful data on my phone. I just want to get it working again so I don't have to buy a new one.
Thanks in advance!
In you item #10, that's a common mistake. The 5.0.2.3 version does not use the power button to select. Use the home softkey to select and the back softkey to go back.
Try to wipe data/factory reset again from this version of CWM Recovery, and then try flashing the one-click downloader return to stock in the "Return to the store or for warranty replacement" thread stickied in general.
Post your results back here and I'll try to keep an eye out to help, but I won't be on the computer every minute.

This guy is right. The power button is the menu/logo button in that version. The newer version changes that mapping though.
You'll likely need to flash the return to stock image. One of them is already prerooted, too!

Thanks so much for your quick reply and help. I followed the instructions you outlined and all went as outlined. Upon final reboot I'm back at Stage 6 in my original post. The original Samsung logo is back (which is a relief), but so is the incessant rebooting and upon trying to enter Recover Mode, I get the Deleting cryption meta data message and then more reboot loop.
Looking forward to your next suggestion(s) and a little sleep.
Oh, by the way, the wipe data/factory reset within CWM appeared to run properly but made no apparent change.

Tried to answer you this morning, but didn't hit the submit button until a few minutes after 8:00. Let me see if I can do it again.
You did a factory reset and then installed the stock firmware. Now try a factory reset again to see if that will clear the bootloop.
If that does not do it, then you may need to replace another part of the system. We need to know exactly what you flashed for the I9100 while you were trying to fix the original problem (point 8 in your list.) So far, you have flashed everything in the stock UCKH7 firmware except the bootloaders and the param.lfs. You may need to flash param.lfs next to see if that will do it. Is there any chance that what you flashed for the I9100 contained bootloaders?
...........
By the way, having Super OneClick hang on step #6 is a known issue, and the solution is posted in the Super OneClick thread OP as well as in the Library sticky thread in the development section of the I777 forum. If you had been better informed, you could have avoided this problem.

First, you're a true gentleman (assuming 'creepyncrawly' to be male) for sticking with me on this issue - Thanks!
To address your first point, I could't do a factory reset after this most recent flash because that dialog doesn't exist any longer. All I get is the "Deleting cryption meta data" message when I try to enter recover mode.
As for the I9100 flash, I used CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE7-v4.0-CWM4 first which took me to 4.0.0.2 and then realizing what I'd done, flashed with SGH-I777_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3 which took me to 5.0.2.3, though the I9100 logo still showed during boot.
Thanks again for your help. I will "flash at will" whatever you suggest as at least I feel I'm making progress now.

The CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE7-v4.0-CWM4.tar contains only the kernel zImage, so it doesn't flash any of the wrong bootloaders or param.lfs, so no clue there.
However, the message "deleting cryption meta data" seems to be associated with the lfs, so I would suggest that you try flashing just the UCKH7 param.lfs file using Odin3. Go to the Download Repository where you will find the Odin3 flashable tar of the UCKH7 param.lfs.

Well, I had a little extra time tonight so I tried a couple more things after my last post. I went back to the Download Repository and got the secondary boot loader (i777 UCKH7 sbl), flashed with that. No change. Then I got the full set of binaries (I777UCKH7-CL503881-Full), flashed that, and still no change. I think I've tried everything except the .pit and that appears the most risky so I'll await further instruction before trying that.
Am I running out of options at this point?
I had a similiar problem with the deleting meta cache data. I couldn't get it back to working order although I didn't flash pit either. Luckily mine was within 30 days so I gave up and returned for a new one.
Hopefully this deleting meta cache thing can be figured out to see what the cause is. Mine happened from a working rom browsing the web, not from flashing. So I believe it was from aftermarket charger creating some hardware problems to my phone, but not sure what it could have messed up.
If ya can't exchange yours, I hope you figure it out.

I have always understood that if a phone will boot in any way, or show any sign of life, then it can be recovered. Since you can still get into download mode, you should be able to recover your phone. However, since I am not an Android developer, and I don't really understand the low level workings of the phone, I can't offer any more suggestions myself.
You have flashed the complete I777UCKH7 software package including bootloaders and param.lfs, which also rebuilds the csc, so I don't know what is causing the bootloop.
You need to seek the help of someone more experienced. I have two people on xda in mind who specialize in recovering hard bricked phones, and both have a better understanding of the low level workings of the phone.
Adam Outler is a fantastic hardware level developer who published the unbrickable mod for the Galaxy S series of phones, and is currently moving into the Galaxy S II phones. I have heard that he wants an I777 to work on to try to make the unbrickable mod for our phone. He would probably not charge anything since he is using the phone to learn how to do it, but he might keep the phone for a while.
Connexion2005 of Mobile Tech Videos offers hard brick recovery on the Galaxy S and Galaxy S II series of phones. He also has a very good understanding of the low level functions of the phone.
If it was my phone, I would be contacting these two to see if I could get any guidance about how to recover the phone, probably Adam Outler first. I would try to pm them and I would try to get phone numbers and talk with them in person.
You are not hard bricked. And about the pit, that re-partitions the phone. But I don't have enough experience to know if partitioning could cause the problem you are experiencing.
Good luck moving forward.
Any chance flashing a ROM would do the trick...like Unnamed or SHOstock? Just thinking that maybe he's flashed so many things nothing is playing nice anymore. Just a thought, not necessarily a suggestion. ;-)
Also, how long are you letting it sit in boot loop now? It might be taking a while to rebuild everything...?

Thanks for your thoughts. I had a similar thought last night and so let it sit through the night rebooting. Sure enough, when I checked it (roughly 8 hours) this morning, it was nice and warm, but still rebooting away.

I figured it was the charger because it was connected when it happened. Was driving home from a Christmas vacation, with maps navigation going, stopped at a rest stop surfing the web. Also on another thread that I read that had a similiar problem, they too thought it was the charger.
And no it was not stock, running unnamed at the time, (though I doubt that is the cause). Like yours I think, I could flash from cwm without success. Wasn't until I flashed stock with stock recovery that I got the deleting meta cache or whatever it is.

Any luck so far? I think I'm having the same issues. Although I can flash the stock rom, then a CWM .tar file and get into recovery. But no matter what I do, after boot, the phone starts boot looping.

Hi there i have a SGH-i717 with AT&T 2.3.4 Stock installed..I did have Cyanogen 10.1 and Avatar all installed in the last 72hrs..I have wiped all that and did a return to the stock AT&T thinking that my HOME keys would return..NO LUCK..The problems started about 4 days ago when the phone started turning itself off automatically..I changed custom ROM's etc to try and fix the problem..then i read to use Kies to try and do a Firmware Upgrade and Initialization to go back to the start when i first got the phone..But now Kies will NOT recognise the phone..I have re-installed drives, Kies to no avail..Any tips ?
Also someone suggested to flash this kernel h0tcakez-JB-Kernel-v2.3.5-ALT but when i tried through system recovery is gives a falied error..
I have nothing on the phone i need to worry about loosing...Cheers

If you are on stock 2.3.4 and tried to flash that kernel .. that is why it failed .. it would be the wrong kernel for that rom. Did you flash a stock rom in recovery? If so then I would suggest using oden to return to stock . then see what you end up with.

Thanx for you reply..I did however flash stock 2.3.4 from oden..I deleted everything in recovery then went to oden and flashed the stock rom..Should i unroot/unbrick flash from oden?
That article about returning to original settings in Kies seems to make sense except for the fact that i cannot get Kies to recognise the phone...
Are we talking about Software ou Hardare issue in your opinion?
Cheers
Could be a hardware issue. Try this ... Put the phone into download mode then connect to the pc. Use the cable that came with the phone. Also use a port on the back of the pc ..not a hub. Then open kies and do the emergency firmware update.
Also ... When you used Odin to go to stock ..you installed the 3e recovery ..that's why it failed to flash. Which is a good thing. That kennel would have boot looped you.

The lap top is fine. Emergency firmware is through kies and not Odin. You need download mode ... Not recovery.

Yep i used it..very good..But my original and main problem..Continues..NONE of my HOME keys are working..I fear that it is a Hardware issue with the SGH-i717..I guess i have to take it to Samsung for repair..Until someone else can give me a solution..I have tried everything and nothing has worked..No HOME keys..Cheers
Definitely not a hardware issue, there where some changes made IIRC in the kernel driver files, once flashed they prevented the homerow buttons from working normally, the only way I ever found to make them work right was to flash the Flappjaxxx alternate kernel series, let it boot, then return completely to stock!
If you dig around, FJ's alt kernel's are around here somewhere!

Good morning, well i believe i have finally arrived at a possible solution..I have searched hi and low for these Flappjaxxx alternate kernel ..I came up with a daunting array of alternatives for the complete amatuer as i am..I appreciate that your time is precious but i do need some general direction what exactly i am searching for..I have found this one but to be quite honest i am not sure if i need this whole ROM or just the Flappjaxxx alternate kernel'a..

Also when i do eventually obtain the Kernel that i am looking for can i use ODIN to flash it? I installed this ROM which i beleive to be stock already..You wrote that i need to return COMPLETELY to stock..What is that 2.3.6???

My work schedule is absolute hell, and due to people flaking at work I have been called in 2x to cover on my only days off...
Needless to say, im about to pass out, so im going to make this useless post...
Either I, or someone else can link you to a FJ rom, and the FJ alternate kernel that match, what you will need to do prior is make sure you have EVERYTHING you want/need, backed up to GMail (in the case of Phone logs, SMS and MMS with the Backup to GMail app, yes, im whoring this fantastic app out) AND to your computer, NO not your SD card, but your computer!
Make sure you have the latest recovery (TWRP 2.5.0.0 is what I have, but whatever TWRP is latest will do), wipe everything, then install the rom, boot, wait 10min, reboot into recovery, flash the alt kernel, boot, wait 10min, then test the home/back/menu/search key row, they should work, at this point, you CAN go back to the 2.x.x rom you where running, but if you have an i717, I have had nothing but love for the Stock rom update on AT&T once I performed a complete ODIN to it (flashing the ones here on the forum's resulted in random reboots here and there, and while less then ever before, still annoying, after an ODIN however, havent had a random reboot yet!).
There are issues with the GNote i717 JB release, many posted here, and quite a few here:
http://forums.att.com/t5/Android-Di...getting-Jelly-Bean-update/td-p/3421041/page/5
Including my own rant towards the bottom...
Needless to say, ill try and get on tomorrow to get the right links you will need, or some other kind sirs can...... either way, I have fallen asleep in the middle of writing this, so if something doesnt make sense... well, sleep writing was never my skill of choice

I was on an international based rom and downloaded something that was supposed to be a fix for something. so after the download it took me to recovery to install and reboot. I flashed the zip and it obviously wasn't for my carrier because my screen went black then did the samsung logo, then my twrp recovery screen, but then right back around to the samsung logo. I can get to odin but not recovery. in odin it shows my phones product name correctly, says custom binary download and says no, current binary says samsung official, then system status says custom...Can someone PLEASE PLEASE help. I am so f***** without this phone...Please someone help....Thank You all..What can I do????
Need specifics. What rom were you on and wtf did you flash lol

Lol yes, sorry kinda going crazy here. Thanks for responding, I appreciate that even. I was on Goodness i605 note 2. I must have screwed up by downloading something in those minsettings that was for a different carrier. It said it was a network error fix I believe. It then took me to recovery to flash the zip and thats when all hell broke loose. It just keeps booting over and over and after the samsung label it shows the twrp screen for a split second then it's just gone. It was obviously a huge mistake and I am an idiot for doing it. I have been trying to get things done through the pc and usb to the phone to fix it and that seems to be the other part of my problem is since I can't turn the usb debugging on on my phone i can't download anything through the usb, Right?...I'm a noob basically and obviously, lol but thanks for responding even if you have no advise.

Dude go into recovery with the rom still installed, and dirty flash the rom while only wiping cache and dalvik. So long as you didn't wipe system you should be fine doing that.
And read more. The op of goodness specifically said don't flash ANYTHING from that till he gives the go ahead. Or it will softboot your phone like it just did

I would tey returning to stock feom odin, and starting all over again. I am not sure this would work, but it is worth a shot.

Odin can be buggy, a lot of the issues are with USB cables and whatnot. Try some of these
1. Try Odin a few times, if it doesn't work disable any and all antivirus, reboot PC and try again.
2. If still no success, try reinstalling all drivers and yet again try again.
3. If that fails, use a different USB port.
4. If that doesn't work try a different USB cable.
5. If all else fails just try a different PC.
Frankly your phone has reached rock bottom so any fails with Odin should not make the problems worse than they are now. Keep us posted and good luck.

Ill give all that a go for sure thank you very much. Is there any possible way through your computer connected to your phone through the usb that you can turn on the usb debugging on your phone from your computer? Long shot I'm sure but it seems like if I could get that turned on I would be working in the right direction
are you getting into download mode on the phone itself and seeing the yellow triangle? you can flash the stock samsung firmware through odin which also unroots and then start over with rooting and such.
I would do what wto said. I have had odin fail multiple times because my drivers were not loaded correctly. Keep plugging away at it, and it might surprise you. Good luck, and sorry.....

Thank you all for being so helpful, really I appreciate it. Yes I can get to download and for the first time I was able to get those return to stock files to go through odin sucessfully but then it rebooted and then went into a different loop with just the samsung logo? In the post it said shut it down then and go into recover but I tried and it just goes right back into the loop? any idea from there?
I don't want to give you bad advice at this point. Honestly, this is my first Samsung device. You can still get into downlpad mode correct? If so, you are not completely screwed (hopefully). I will look around tomorrow, and see what I can dig up. At this point you know you can flash files with odin, so dont get careless at this point. I know how frustrating, and anxious you must feel. What a great learning experience, huh? My advice is to do as much research as possible. Getting late, so until tomorrow.

Did you flash the PIT file when you flashed the return to stock files? Which return to stock files did you flash? If you haven't already done this try flashing just the PIT files in Odin and see if that will work for you, if not then flash the alternative recovery ROM and the PIT together in Odin and see if that works.

If you can still get into download your phone will still be functional. I have a few questions.
1. What version of android were you rooted on?
2. Were you ever successfully rooted at any point?
3. Can you get your phone to be recognized in ODIN?
You shouldn't have to need USB debugging if you can get into download mode, for all I know download mode uses the same USB debugging properties as it is not in the OS yet.
Keep us posted and please don't leave out details in-case someone else comes around with a similar issue. If you do get something working, try to put a step-by-step on how you did it for future reference.
Great Learning experience for sure, I thought I was getting good at figuring out what I could and couldnt download lol..yes I'm extremely bummed and even more frusterated. I appreciate all the help and direction. I am truely sorry to even have to ask for help guys believe me. Yes I was rooted, yes I get recognized by odin in download mode and as for the version I was last on I am not sure exactly what I was on...i never got the latest update from verizon because I was rooted before that. So I rooted just after that verizon update that was the security patch I believe?? So I did the pit file with the root66 first and it keeps going all the easy tell the end of the download amd then fails...however I then did the pit with the stock restore and it passed, rebooted my phone then goes into a boot loop and I shut it down like it says in the directions and try to restart into recovery and it goes right back to the bootloop..its like I dont have a recovery set up or something anymore if thats possible?? I'm working now but ill be back to messing with it once I get off so any advice will be appreciated and put to use at 5mst...thanks again everuone
I am just thinking out loud, but if recovery is hosed, maybe you could run casual, and have it reinstall rhe custom recovery. I have no idea if this would work, but it is one way ro get a custom recovery back on. Still looking around for more info, but I dont want to brick your device completely.
Edit- You may try flashing twrp from odin. Here is a link to team.win's website, and download. Again, I am thinkong out loud, and none of my advise is bulletproof.
