I flashed the leaked Froyo 2.2 but when the actual 2.2 comes out from HTC will I be able to use that one?
In short, yes.
any idea when were going to see that come out?
Well clearly the rom is complete, so I assume we are waiting on at&t to ok it.

They have to update all their crapware to Froyo, as well as strip out tethering, Wifi hotspot, and sideloading.

According to http://www.droid-life.com/2010/07/1...feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+DroidLife+(droid+life) there will be an update to Eris phones. One thing I wonder about is they are calling this mandatory.
What happens if you don't install this? I know Verizon tracks who installs patches and I don't want to take chances losing root.
yeah I'm running EvilEris3.0 on my wife's Eris. I'm actually wanting to go back to the stock 2.1 cause shes not happy with how her phone is acting.....wondering if this will put it back to stock or HOW do I flash it back to the stock ROM?
any help with this would be thankful.
Ok lets not, panic. You need to read the entire thing, and point out that if you have MR3 then MR4 is mandatory but if you only have MR2 then it is only recommended meaning if your current rom has OTA working and you have MR 2 you will be able to ignore the update. If you have MR3 (MR being maintenance release) the update will be eventually be installed for you if you don't do it voluntarily. and you cannot get a replacement for any problems that this is suppose to address if you do not install it
Hey this shouldn't be a big deal. This same update was sent out sometime at the end of last month and those who were rooted were able to root back instantly. Even the 1.49 people. (Assuming you have luck with ADB recovery)
So it will just temporarily remove root?

Pretty much from what I've seen.
And all we have to do is reflash recovery like we did the first time? That's not so hard.

Put her on Ivan's Eris_Official.
No strange/unpredictable behavior. Ever.
I'll just wait for someone to run diffs on it vs the leak4rombase version and see what we can get from it.
Okay with this new root method and all I'm curious as to know if this MR4 is going to stop us from rooting this method. The old method wasn't stopped, but obviously not everyone can do that method.

You are able to re-root after running it using the new root method that came out last week.
I didn't notice any real improvement...soon after had a silent call V_V

I don't really feel like messing around trying to root my phone right now, but I was just wondering what I will have to do when the official froyo launches.
Is it going to be a simple install or will I have to go in and do all that technical stuff anyway?

Sure you have to
Official froyo from HTC will most likely be a simple click and install, similar to the stock ROM that is currently on their website.
Rooting the phone is as simple as running a program on your pc and plugging in the phone...

It will be. Custom Froyo roms will be available on XDA long before the OTA however.

This is probably a dumb question, but I installed 2.1 a long while ago not knowing which version I have. How can I tell if mine can be rooted? And thus if I can install custom roms?

You can root no matter what. I recommend the one-click root app. I think you can find it somewhere in the link above, but there's also a sticky at the top of this forum specifically for the one-click method.

Oh awesome, I kept hearing that the 2.1leak couldn't be rooted, and you had to have waited until the 2.1root rom. I just tried it though and it seems to have worked! thanks so much!

Does anyone know when this update will begin in the U.S.?
Knowing samsung and tmobile I'll say 3 to 4 months. Let's hope I'm wrong. Since the update just started rolling in europe yesterday for public testing

It shouldn't take them long to just port the rom eh?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yeah I was thinking they could just port it over? Like they did 2.2 roms
the leak was already ported... just as this will be. i wouldn't expect gps, but hopefully we can get an actual recovery...
So when it is official could we just Odin back to stock and upgrade legitimately through kies?

No one will know until Samsung or T-Mobile says so.
As a guess, given how the Froyo rollout went, I'd guess that we're in for several months of waiting for this officially.

Lets not start a steady stream of these threads AGAIN (Froyo).
OP, if you want GB, Try CM7. Otherwise... patiently wait till you see something in the development section.
The i9000 JVK ginger along with the KB1 Vibrant modem running very smooth here with no issues yet. I mod my own rom

Lol, CM7 is a joke on the Vibrant. CyanogenMod is always a step ahead of the drivers available for Samsung devices, so it will *never* work properly on a Samsung. By the time they have what they need to make it work, they're already pushing out a new "no wifi no gps no nothing useful" version. Nothing against CyanogenMod, but... Try CM7 (or any version) is never much of an answer on the Vibrant and recommending it to anyone is pointless.
That said...
Every time anyone posts a thread asking when, T-Mobile kills a kitten, Baby Jesus cries, and another week will go by before the update.

you obviously haven't tried cm7. it is hands down, by far, the best gb for the vibrant. pretty much the ONLY problem is gps doesn't work.

From the thread on CM7 for the Vibrant:
Known bugs:
You can't get into recovery/download without the 3 buttons combo. (You can't from inside the ROM, so do NOT flash if you can't use the 3 button combo.)
Problems switching between 2G and 3G when data is connected. (You may get un-reliable data.)
Compass. (works not at 100%)
Video playback may be choppy with some formats.
GPS is broken.
May have many other bugs that are unlisted.
Polling problem on RIL (Works after you lock and unlock your phone.)
USB Tethering is currently broken
Battery life has significantly improved with latest unofficial nightly (3/31) and the latest Additional kernel. See below. However, it is still not as good as stock.

nope, seeing as everything is the same as what we have already. VZW switched their network back to what it was before the outage a while back, that could be it.

so which radio is useable with CM7?
I tried to flash it last night running the MR2 radio and that didnt work. I had no signal whatsoever even after doing the procedure in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13348917&postcount=1
please help. CM7 looks so wonderful but i cant even get it to work
CM7 works just fine with the 2.5 - 3.5.
the latest 3.5 (802) however produces poor 4G performance. it's best to use 2.5 for 4G.
