Wireless Tether - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I havent tried using my wireless tethering since the OTA. But I just did and when pressed start I got an error message stating, "Tethering started with errors check show log" I checked the show log and see that setting ad-hoc mode "failed" and setting channel "failed" Then it goes on to say that, "Your phone is currently in an unknown state- try to reboot. So far I've runned the fix permissions in ROM manager and also uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless tether apk. What else should I try?

Try AP mobile.

Its the mobile access point code that Samsung developed for our phones but TMO left out. It works awesome.

[Q] Wireless Tethering "No Access Control!" error message

Finally took the plunge and rooted on GB. Downloaded wireless tethering app and installing it, upon opening app I get error message "No Access Control! Sorry, but your kernel does not have all necessary features for the Access Control feature of this application. Access control will be disabled". I uninstalled and reinstall, rebooted my phone each time and still same message. Anyone have this problem? Thanks,
Access Control
I think you would have to be using a kernel that has Netfilter fully enabled. It should still let you tether you just can't control who has access to your network (without using WEP or WPA encryption)
Assume you are using WiFi tether? I get same message.
Barnacle works fine for me in 4.5.91.
Beamed from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium
I'm having the same issue, and I think it's because I upgraded to a ROM (DarkSide 3.1) using system software 4.5.133 instead of the old 4.5.91 (Darkside 1.5 had this, worked fine).
Did you guys read the FAQ?
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/wiki/FAQ
"Why does the "access-control"-feature not work or is disabled.
If the kernel-feature "CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_MAC" is missing the "access control"-feature will not work correctly (you will see a "failed"-status in "Show log" for "Enabling access control")."

I tried that too... still an alternative, but I am losing WPA encryption for WEP+MAC address control list. I am using Barnacle at the moment w/ WEP+MAC address control. It's not like I use tether a lot anyways, it's just when I need to for my iPad or laptop.

Use phone without service

Is there a way or a rom where i can use my fascinate as just a wifi internet device?
After flashing Vanilla it will not connect to internet through wifi or to market.
My Fascinate is still running MIUI build 9/16 with no service and wifi/internet still works.

you should be able to run any rom without service on wifi. I used my ol eris that way after I got mh fascinate
Yeah, most roms have the option to turn mobile data off. Just switch it off and wifi on and you should be good to go

I found a script here on xda that enables wifi only for unactivated devices........http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216571

I never had a problem using wifi in the month I had my fassy without service.
Just got a Samsung Charge and wanted to do the same with my Fascinate. I was having errors installing apps via the Market Place. It was giving me the error "file package invalid" or something. I put it in airplane mode and then enabled wifi and now it works. I'm not sure why. Can anyone explain? I did root it and was running an older ROM from this site.

This ROM is great! Got MMS working by using Textra and making some adjustment to make it Virgin Mobile.
Anyone have any insights on how to get Tethering working. I get the message "tethering started with errors. Check Log file" THe log file shows 3 fails: Configuring AP, Starting AP, ,Configuring IP Address.

the tether built in works for me. is this what your using are u using wireless tether app?
I think I'm using the built in. It comes up in my app drawer. (Yellow WiFi symbol). Version 3.2-beta2***BETA***.
It worked fine while I was on UNsensible ROM.
If this is not the Built in where is it located?
(I restored my Titanium back ups and everything worked fine, but maybe that caused a "disconnect")

Thanks. Found it and it does show up now, and connects.
BUT, my laptop can't access the internet. I'll need to check the settings some where.
U may need to change the default password on the tether app or just turn off the the security

I turned off security. SID showed up, and I could connect, but there is no internet.
That's weird. Try wiping caches

Wifi unable to obtain IP

The phone P769 was working fine, I factory reset it . After that, wifi keeps having " obtaining IP " from different routers/networks then disconnect. During the "obtaining IP " I can ping the phone from another device. I already try to reset router and the phone again. Any idea ? TIA
Your WiFi maybe be going out. I doubt that a system file got corrupt. You maybe having issues with busybox. Sounds like busybox replaced a toolbox applet. Just guessing mostly

[Q] Noob - Wifi Authentication Issue

Hi All -
I just got my S4 this past weekend (running 4.3) and I now cannot connect to the secure network at work. On my droid if I went to any random webpage the screen for accepting terms would come up, I would click the button to accept and it would connect. With the S4 I cannot seem to get that page to appear. It just uses the 4G for the 'net. If I put it into airplane mode with wifi on, it just has the "not connected" message (tried refreshing many times). I also have tried the wifi manager app (no luck) as well as restarting and using multiple browsers. In searching it looks like this is a known issue, but I can't seem to find a solution that works. I searched here as well (wifi authentication, S4 wifi, etc) with no luck. If I missed a page, I apologize - new here and most of it seemed to be over my head development. Any help or direction would be great as I'm very frustrated.
Thanks
I have to do the same thing with my school network, try to go to the wifi menu, go to settings menu, and hit advanced. There should be an option that says "auto network switch". Uncheck that.
