Root x10i with 2.1 - XPERIA X10 Android Development

How can I root the version 2.1 on the X10i?

You can't. For now...
One click root doens't work.
Binary method should't work as you must downgrade your phone.
I guess you should wait for decrypted roms to be flashable, the we stand a chance on getting root.
I'm not updating until I have root! No wireless tether is a no go for me.

You can root. I did it already. Check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824788
Try the v1 file.

[Q] How To Root Xperia Pro MK16I 4.0.2.A.0.62

Hello everyone,
I would like to know if there is any (tested) method of rooting xperia pro with firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62. My phone is unlocked. I have no idea if my bootloader is locked or unlocked...
Some say they rooted this firmware, some say they failed, and I would like to know for sure if there is any way to root it.
The reason I want to root my phone is mainly to remove the annoying preintalled apps.
Any help would be great. Thanks!
How To Root Xperia Pro MK16I 4.0.2.A.0.62
I had to downgrade the software back down to version 4.0.2.A.0.58 in order to root the phone. My thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22619413#post22619413 refers.
Unfortunately, as yet, nobody seems to have posted a simple method of rooting the phone with version 4.0.2.A.0.62.
Cheers

Will the phone stay rooted if I upgrade to 4.0.2.A.0.62?
Thanks in advance,

as long as you update it OTA it should keep rooted.
updating with PC companion will remove the root access

Thanks for the info.
Did you try updating it already?
Yes , I tried it , now I'm having rooted .62 baseband on my Xperia Pro and CWM installed. Good luck on it !

[Q] So, how to keep the root from .58 to .62? [Solved]

EDIT [Solution]:
TL;DR Use wotanserver to flash a US Generic .58 firmware, then root the phone using flashtool ZergRush exploit, check for updates and OTA update should be available.
Ok, seems like some people can't update by OTA to .62 after rooting, because it keeps asking for PC Companion.
After several tries, I realized the problem is the firmware.
I used Wotanserver.. tried Latin American, and countries from south America .42 and .58 firmwares, none worked...
But the last try:
- I picked the "Generic US .58" from Wotanserver, and flashed the phone.
- Without installing nothing, rooted it with "Force ZergRush" using Flashtool 0.6.7.0
- Then enabled the internet, and checked software updates, there it was the .62 and for my surprise it would finally allow the OTA update, did it, and 5 minutes later I had a .62 rooted SK17a Mini Pro.
So just try the US firmwares. Guess they´ll do the trick.
OLD POST:
Sorry if this have been answered already, but I can't seem to find anything..
I just heard some people saying if you use PC Companion to update from a flashed .42 or .58 to .62, the root will be gone. And you need to update "Over the Air" in order too keep the root.
The problem is that when I try to do so, the phone says (SK17a): "PC Companion Needed, yada yada you need a computer in order to update your phone" ....
So I'm stuck or ... ??

Some people succeeded and many peoples are not.
I want to ask to succeeded people.
How or where did you get the 5.8 or 4.2 firmware and what kind of or which versions firmware.
This is s very important things.
go to wotan server website.
locate your phone & inside that page you will find tutorial to flash the firmware
follow it & install .58 or .42 version
root it using zergrush method (you can check the guide link in my sig)
make sure you don't change anything in the system, just root it only (you can install other apps like titanium backup, root uninstaller etc)
after that do the OTA update.
phone gets restarted & you still keep the root.

Ok here is the deal, these are the steps I followed, notice the difference from your instructions:
Went to wotan server
Installed a Generic Latin American .42 firmware
Used Flashtool to root the phone (it stated that used zergrush exploit)
I installed NOTHING but the market which automatically got updated.
In the notifications appeared the ".62 update available"
Tried, but then asked me for a computer to commit the update.
So my guess is:
- Either, some firmwares are not allowed to being updated by OTA or ... maybe in some countries is just impossible.
i wold suggest try to install .58 version & then try it
one thing i noticed that latin firmware is for sk17a
nt sure if its possible for sk17i only or not
Solved it, edited the first post.

US Generic 5.8 firmware is a GSM?
mini pro it self is a gsm phone
This way's working for me.
I hope keep the root after update to ICS.
Thanks.
Just a suggestion to all, do not update the superuser app. Latest version 3.0.7 gets hanged in .62, nt sure if its an issue with the app or compatibility wid .62 fw.
3.0.5 version works fine
Sent from my SK17i using XDA App
I have a sk17a model with pt-br keyboard (with "Ç" key).
I read that I can flash a sk17i rom but will the keyboard work properly?
Can I follow this method?
Sadly I don't have a .58 sk17a rom from my country to give a try since I update from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4-.62 with no other steps.
You can give it a try (p.s. dnt blame me if anything goes wrong )
about the keyboard settings, well if u are successful to keep the root then you can change the keyboard settings. you have to follow this guide.

Thanks, man. It works.
I downgraded with wotan server to sk17a .58 US (and lost my Ç).
Then I rooted with doomlord v4.
Updated to .62 over wifi.
And finally used the doomlord's Hardware Keyboard FIX you mentioned.
Now its rooted like a charm, with Ç and everything.
Took me half hour or less since I knew what to do.
Very thank you for the attention, guys, again!

[Q] Xperia Neo Root And Unroot for .062

Hiiiiiiiii, I 'm new to this forum and would like to root my neo v as i'm confused that .62 firmware cant be rooted
I Have updated my Xperia neo v to new firmware 4.02.A.0.62
I'm going to root it with DooMLoRD tutorials
But i want to get the ICS update in april, so would have to unroot.
i'll use DooMLoRD unroot tutorials
But Could I get Sony Ericsson OTA update OR by Pc Companion after unrooting
will the warranty be void after unrooting
Many Thanks to DooMLoRD for Getting us use our phones at thier full capabilities....
As far as i know, when you unroot you can still update with pccompanion.
Warrenty should not be effected, as it should be undectable that yu have rooted and the unrooted
does update work with uunlock bootloader

Does that mean even if my phone is rooted i'll get update from SE
i thought DoomLord's rooting/unrooting tool does not work with .62, only with .42/.58
is there an updated tool for .62?
.62 can be rooted only with unlocked bootloader! Root with locked bootloader possible only on FW .42 and lower.
Rooting not affect further updates! If you update bay OTA, root remains, if update by PCC - you lose root.
Humm...to have a rooted .62 with locked bootloader
my method is:
1. flashtool back to to .42
2. root it via flashtool
3a. OTA to .62
it will keep your root
3b. Install CWM for locked bootloader with:
"Market> search Xperia CWM"
4 then install stock rooted image @ CWM
Both methods works
how to know that my neo V is rooted
downgraded my firmware to .42 then
i've used Easy Rooting Toolkit of DooMLoRD and i do have Superuser in my menu.
if rooted then can anybody tell me use of clockwork mod recovery as i dont want to install any custom rom. Is it really needed
can i now safely update to .62 via OTA
Thanks everybody y'all help......

CWM recovery hv advantage on back up and restore even if u r not going for custom ROMS
Also, it is a faster means to install some system apps
Say the Xperia S 's player plus all the equalizer stuffs
w/ CWM, just u/l the zip will done
but w/o CWM u will need to use ROOT Explorer set permissions for files and place them in position one by one
Btw Rooting itself will not affect OTA ONLY IF u do not remove any of the System rubbish apps
(tricks is to FREEZE them instead or delete)
but I suspect if we can reli OTA to 4.0? As it is a new FW instead of FW like .58>62
in general backup, killing rubbish & set auto runs, u will just need:
Titanium backup, Root Explorer/ES , Gemin. apps manager
Hope these help =)
Thanks for the info

Deleting rubbish apps will only affect OTA update as heard, it seems that after removing any Will cause fail to receive OTA notification of update (i dun know if it related to me that I changed the kernel to .283, i m MT15i)
As long as u use PCC or US , update is avaliable if ur bootloader is not unlocked, but this kill root
Ways to deal with, is to use flashtool to flash bk to .58, upgrade all system apps via Market, reboot again, root, then OTA to latest version, (4.0 may still work) this keep root.
Thanks for the info

Really? So, if I use PC Companion to update my Neo 2.3.4 to ICS while I'm rooted, it will update without a problem (although it would erase my root)? Even if I've deleted some of the pre-installed apps such as chinese and japanese (POBox) keyboard, OfficeSuite and similar..?
Well, do I also need to uninstall root apps like Titanium Backup or DiskUsage in order to allow for the update to install..? And should I empty the data/cache folders before updating?
I know, a lot of questions, but you've just made my day if all this is possible..

It will be kinda a waste of time and effort to update to 0.62 now and in around 2-3 weeks time to upgrade to ICS,I used both 0.42 & 0.62 fw's and tbh I don't see that much difference at all in speeds or anything. If you are in 0.42 or any fw higher to that then wait for ICS.

you're right of course, i know that .62 is no big deal, but it's just that by updating from .42 to .62 i kinda wanted to verify for myself what you wrote about updating when rooted..my main concern is whether i'll be able to update to ICS (via PCC) if i previously uninstalled some of the pre-loaded apps (no matter how unessential they are)..of course i wouldn't uninstall apps such as phonebook, systemUI or similar, but stuff like officesuite or japanese/chinese keyboards should be safe to remove..
i'm simply uncertain how things will go, so i'm trying to take baby steps so i can take the big step when (ICS)..

[Q] New Sony Tablet S - can I root it?

Hi everyone!
I was trying to ask this in the Dev forum, but aparently my post count doesn't allow me to do so...
I just bought a Sony Tablet S (Wifi 16 GB version), and it comes with Android 3.1 and Kernel 2.6.36.3, so my question is if I can/should root it before I update it to ICS? Is the root process safe and easy to do, and does it void the warranty?
Thanks for your help...
yes - you need to root it before you upgrade - then upgrade using AiO tool by Condi.. here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515720

Great, thanks for your help! I see from that link that the root can be undone, but can this also be done after the ICS update? I will try to root my Tablet S with the stock Android 3.1 and after I want to update it to the oficial ICS...
Putente,
if you upgrade to official ICS, you will not be able to root, till now.
awn
you will probably have to upgrade to 3.2.1 first, because most of 3.1 versions couldnt be rooted. BUT BE CAREFUL! - do not use OTA update if it comes with ICS because its not rootable and you cant go back..
First you should get URL of 3.2.1 of your region - check one of HC URLS thread,
flash 3.2.1, root, download ICS and use AiO to preroot it, then flash custom ICS with root.
thats all
br
condi
Well, this is starting to get a bit confusing for me, as I'm a noob. I thought that this root process would be easier. I'll do a bit more reading about this subject before I make any decisions...
I got another question...
I have an update notice on my tablet and it says something about a system update version 1.10 and Android 3.2. Is this the (in)famous kernel build #10, or can I safely perform this update before I use condi's AIO tool for root and ICS update?
Thanks.
If you get 3.2 update, you'll probably receive kernel #10 but that update will be soon followed by 3.2.1 with kernel #5, #6 or #8 (or even another one, depending on your region) rootable by Condi's tool.
Then you can be proposed to download another 3.2.1, don't accept as it will be kernel #10.
You may be able to keep root after 4.0.3 update using Condi's tool if you come from a rooted 3.2.1. If not, you won't be able to gain root because there's actually no exploit for stock ICS.
So be carefull!

So you have 3.2 kernel 10?
Then you can install this for Portugal 'WIFI only'.
3.2.1R2 Wifi Only SGPT111PT/S SGPT112PT/S
http://info.update.sony.net/ST003/nbx03_011/contents/0008/signed-nbx03_011-ota-0042.002.zip
This is 3.2.1r2 install, not sure what kernel but should be rootable, I helped someone from Sweden using the same file and they were able to root tablet.
Copy to SD card
To install go into recovery (turn off tab, then hold vol + and tap power button, tablet will boot and then go into recovery, then you can let go of vol button) and select file off SD card.
Then run condi's AIO and select root, it will tell you if it can be rooted or not.....
If that works and you would like to ICS then use the program to preroot the following:
4.0.3 Wifi Only SGPT111PT/S SGPT112PT/S
http://info.update.sony.net/ST003/nbx03_011/contents/0009/signed-nbx03_011-ota-120410025.zip
Oh and Portugal / Netherlands /Norway /Sweden are the same file
GOOD LUCK

Since we cannot decrease from the tablet then why don't we just increase it in the flashable pacakage?
I don't visit here much but I read somewhere that flashable firmware must be greater than the installed one, then why not just change the build.prop in the to higher that 4.0.3 and it will get accepted right?
or is this already tried?
if this succeeds then we can make HC's build.prop to 4.0.4 n flash it and then root it and flash to ICS with add root support.
Just a suggestion.
This may help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1887447

Although we can sign it. We do not have keys or method to fully sign it. Because the bootloader is locked it has to be a signed file from Sony.... With the exception of condi's AIO tool which bypasses the check. For this you need root! But now we can root ICS anyway and apply semi custom roms i.e root and lower incremental
