Do we have a list of apps that are safe to uninstall from the 2.1 after we've applied root?
I removed:
# All Moxier-Apps
# a few Keyboards
but i guess you can remove time- & media-scape as well.
Have removed Moxier and the crappy games and also a few keyboards!
Was wondering what else was safe to delete, free up some space and services
Can anyone upload a copy of the Messaging app? I deleted it and have no idea how to bring it back...

I'd leave Timescape, it screwed stuff up in 1.6 so would imagine it will in 2.1. just use your common sense when deleting stuff, or get Titanium Backup and freeze apps to see what effects if any it has.

Moxier, keyboards, and a couple of other stuff like the user guides, Quadrapop, Playnow, Track ID and maybe one or two more that I can't recall.

I used " Ti Backup" safely remove all the software with SEMC and SonyEricsson in it's file name.
Things I removed:
Android, Danish, Chinese, Korean Keyboards
PlayNow
Moxiermail
Browser (Dolphin Browser HD instead)
SetupGuide
SE Learning Client
SE Synchronisation Stuff
User Guides
Email, Gmail (using K9mail)
Telenorwrapper-thingy (no clue >.>)
Supernytt
RecentCalls
StatusSwitch
Mediascape&Timescape I left alone.
Mediascape can be useful from time to time and Timescape *is* essential.
I likely removed a couple more system things, but I can't remember off the top of my head. Phone works perfectly though.
well i frooze timescape first and found no problems. so i removed the whole thing. and i cant see any problems yet? does anyone know what programs depend on timescape - so i can check for problems? x

I'm getting "RM **** Failed - Read Only file system".
I've rotted my x10 with the root method in this forum (the one that loops constantly).
What am I doing wrong?

After rooting my X10, i'm wondering how far you can go in deleting system apps.
I deleted the following without negative problems for the android system and x10 device:
- Moxier
- Chinese keyboard
- Korean keyboard
- user manual
Is it safe to delete timescape, the standard message app, digital clock, playnow and dialer? Anybody done this before?
Thanks in advance!

I've deleted Timescape. Now I can't open my contacts anymore. So not a good idea
timescape removal
Won't be able to view contact details
can b set aside if you don't mind using phonebook replacements such as acontacts, quickcall or takephone (i think that's the name)
Mediascape removal
wont be able to change wallpapers but can still be done by using a third party app!
may have problems with receiving/attaching mms!
You'd require another app for music such as mixzing and another for pictures such as justpictures! (which I would pick over mediascape any day)
there's prob few more errors out there which I don't know about.
Id recommend getting titanium backup full version, the freeze/defrost option works wonders. its like uninstalling an app without actually uninstalling it.. Freeze the apps you want n if you get errors u just defrost the app n all should be back to normal!!
you can get rid of all the keyboards n stick to ya own.. default se 1 is SEMCime 1.0
(heads up, if you remove all default keyboards n have to factory data reset, ul have no keyboards to start off like me.. theres prob a solution but I had to reroot lol, also if you remove default launcher, in this event timescape would b your default launcher)
you can get rid of timescape themes, provider n plugin n just leave timescape, n everything should stil work as normal, no errors!! (that's if you don't use timescape like me)
You can remove
Digital clock
Playnow
Trackid
Userguide 1.0
Browser 1.6 (if you have an alternative)
Email 1.6 (i don't use it.. gmail will still b there though)
Home 1.6 (i used adw instead)
Voice dialer
User support 1.1.4
Drm protected content storage
Software update (if you don't plan on using it, same goes for the 1 below)
Com.sonyericsson.android.pccompanioninstaller
Com.sonyericsson.android.cdinfoaccess
Alarm clock (can use alternative! may possibly receive odd errors here and there)
I've removed the default messaging app before n used chompsms instead but I got like message delays, sometimes no messages at al so I don't realy touch it.. could possibly have been cause of another app cause I weren't paying too much attention in them days!
if the user who mentioned it earlier still has no problems then you can give it a try.. upto you! I might actually try freezin it n c what happens!
avoid the google stuff, its prob somehow linked to market.. you may have problems downloading from market there after!
Well sorry for the long essay guys.. hope it helps!!

Thank you very much for you comment Mobzter! That was what I was looking for .
I deleted the standard message app (i'm using handcent sms) and didn't receive any errors so far. I think i'll leave timescape for what it is, since it is so deeply rooted in all SE software and the x10 system.
I uninstalled the default Messaging app but facing some problems now. Using Titanium backup, I backup-ed the app before uninstalling but I cannot find the app now! Anyone can tell me what's the name of the Messaging app apk?
The thing with titanium backup is that no matter if you back it up or not you cannot restore the stock apps (default ones)
You can maybe try an alternative app such as chompsms/handcent altho didn't really work out for me
OR
you can try instal the default app
http://db.tt/JlnKmQ
If it doesn't work then you maybe required to push it to system.. don't have the code on me at mo but im sure someone will provide it, if that's the case!
Hope it helps!!
Edit - just realised I wrote all this only to find out I just replied to your post in the 'general section' of this forum lol.. bummer!

Possible Timescape fix
Now earlier i was looking through my phone with root explorer and i came across the timescape folder, now in there was a file that i THINK linked time scape to the phonebook etc, the code is below. Now, im not an experienced coder, but if we delete the part between the two <map> identifiers and overwrite the original with this one, its either going to screw up your phone or stop timescape being linked to the phonebook or do nothing
Let me know what you guys think before i try anything, is it worth testing out?

Messaging app.
I have frozen default message app with Titanium backup and I was unable to send and receive MMS (using Handcent). So, I dont recommend to uninstall it.
Not sure why so many apps are consuming so much CPU power. Like face recognition, home, other google stuff. It's been over a day and still theses apps are processing or whatever they are doing
Kinda disappointed with 2.1 atm.

I rooted mine as well, but haven't deleted the Sony crap yet. Could you refer me to a few threads here so I can do so as well.
I'm so close to dumping this X10 :/
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Simply use Titanium Backup to freeze apps. No need to delete anything.
I noticed huge lag as well while playing with the phone for the first 15mins and thought it would get used to the new OS, it didn't. One solution I found, and worked for many people was simply restarting the phone. Now my phone doesn't seem like the same laggy X10 I had. For Titanium Backup info and instructions, here is the developer's official wiki: http://matrixrewriter.com/wiki/tiki-index.php if that doesn't help use the search feature on XDA, or Google it...
Also when deleting Sony apps be careful things like Mediascape are used for putting contact pics in your phonebook, etc. It is also the default mediaplayer so don't delete it. Same with Timescape, if you use your phonebook contacts connected from facebook, I noticed some data is taken from Timescape.
Somethings that I can confirm are safe to delete:
1. Moxier Mail
2. Wise Pilot
3. Creatouch
Before doing this, backup everything with Titanium Backup, no harm in backing up
Well I've been running 2.1 since the day it was released and I've rooted but haven't uninstalled anything and everything is running smoothly for me. As it is for my two mates.
It runs a lot faster then the Galaxy S 2.1.
I haven't come across any lag yet.

I followed the advice on this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=826491
i just installed the update but my phone kindda lagg..
any solutions on this?
Just wait for few minutes. New Dalvik VM is on its way so it is a bit slow to start . Give it ~10-15 mins.
Patience Required
I have done some research and testing, Found that mainly face recon, media apps, Google Sync, where draining power but leaving on phone overnight, charging it had finished processing all the pictures and synced data on my phone, of course you can remove apps but I wouldn't recommend any SE based ones as they all control certain parts to improve phone quality.

I was one of the first that got the oficiall 2.1 update and i stumbled upon something.
When i got it i just used google sync on almost everything. but then i realised i needed some apps that i had made a backup of by using MyBackup PRO. So i thought that "oh well, might just sync the contacts again".
Thats when all hell started to break loose on my poor phone, it was lagging like CRAZY, all the time. Didnt matter what i did, still the same issue...
So i formated and reinstalled everything on the phone, and everything was going extremly smooth. Like the first time experience all over again.
Then i realized "Damn, i havent restored my contacts" and then it hit me. All my problems started when i restored contacts using ANYTHING else BUT Google's own sync. Cuz once i was going to restore it using MyBackupPro it said something about not being able to restore cuz no Google account was found on contacts, but i already had logged in my entire phone with my google account, exxept syncing my contacts with Google.
So my guess is that they have incorporated the contacts too much with Timescape and Google Sync so if u use like Titanium Pro or MyBackup or watever backup program, it will give u issues with this update.
But its meerly a speculation from my side...
Other Point....
The other thing I did notice a lot of is the developer/Diagnostic tool this I imagine will be used to send logs and stats back to SE for 2.1 optimisations for newer firmware, Though it very random at times.

what can be deleted
There is much better way to clean SE garbage applications than manual delete
use SystemApp Remover it is commercial applications it can be found here http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/tools/systemapp-remover_kbyr.html
price is 1$
it works great on rooted x10i
applications are uninstalled from phone as they were never installed.
Safe to uninstall:
Korean keyboard
Japanese keyboard
Chinese keyboard
Danish keyboard
TrackID
moxiemail
quadrapop
backup & recovery
facebook
Wise Pilot
Creatouch
playnow and two accompanying files
there are some others like e-manual etc. But search forum for more complete list and SystemApp Remover can backup applications before uninstall so you can restore them if things go south
for contact backup use SE sync it is a good one if you use other SE phones
that's my 2 cents

Sorry don't have an answer, but you're not the only one. I've been trying to find a way to remove the redundant camera and messenger app icons as well.
I've figured the best solution is to reinstall an older version, but then we'll never get any of the newer patches/updates without a solid solution.
Dont use the stock app. Use the app called "fast facebook" it is locally made from here at XDA and makes facebook browsing way better.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.fastfacebook.com&hl=en
I just noticed the new icons and wrote a quick app to remove them. Unfortunately it doesn't work since 3rd-party apps can't get access to "android.permission.CHANGE_COMPONENT_ENABLED_STATE" (which makes sense) and can only disable icons for their own application. Going to see if root helps...

It certainly could. There is a little detective work involved with figuring out the package/component names (they are hard coded in this app) but I am already working on extending this to allow the disabling/hiding of any application icon.

The app is using the 'pm' (package manager) command to disable two components (activities) in the Facebook package. It probably won't work if you've already uninstalled it. The components should be part of the com.facebook.katana-2.apk package (that's how it was named on my devices, both in /data/app/). You could try reinstalling Facebook, using this tool and then uninstalling to see if that removes the icons.

ICS users can simply select the 'Hide applications' from the action bar in the application drawer and then tap the applications to hide. You can then select 'Show hidden applications' from the application bar to un-hide them. I don't have an ICS device on me and only have one day experience with it (just got my Galaxy Tab 2 yesterday) but hope this helps. If not let me know and I can provide more detailed steps tonight.

Nevermind I removed manually the fb.katana from /data/app and its folder in /data/data and everything disappeared. Yay!
The only thing left is in Settings>apps managemente>all, there's still the com.facebook.katana listed even tho I already uninstalled all updates, weighting 0.0B and with the SD card icon. I tried to look for it in the SD directory but I found nothing. It's not a big deal in the end but I'm a perfectionist.
This also happened for Gmail and Google Quicksearch Box, while for Wisepilot after a reboot the broken SD link was gone.

I may have been given incorrect information regarding the "Hide Applications" being a stock option in ICS. Can you try the attached apk and see if it works for you on ICS? If it doesn't work then any logcat output you can send would help me troubleshoot (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jtb.alogcat if you don't have a way to view/save logcat logs already).

DSM states for "Dedicated Security Management " Which allows this app to get a full control over the phone using voice channel only... Dsmlawmo is to get full control over the phone, track it, reset and stuff like that. It's probably to control and repair the phone remotely when calling tmo cs.
u can freeze it using TB(Titanium backup)
also see this link below for applications that r safe to remove

Alternatively you could try revoking all its rights using: 'Permission Manager - App ops' on the play store
I would have added a link but apparently even Google play store links are blocked here.
How do you find DSLawmo on a samdung tablet, I have looked at all my apps?. Also I dont use as a phone but do use messenger so do I need to worry?

Some virusscanner saw this DSMLawmo as a virus but could not delete it because it was installed in a special way or blah, sorry can't remember. I tried removing everything by hand but that worked for all the folders but one. One that did not want to be deleted and copied itself within the folder 247 times and probably keeps repeating this process endlessly so I can not get access to it. (at least that is what I understood how some uploads in FTP in the earlier days could stay alive)
However on an Android I can not try something like RMDIR /q /s
Even after hard resetting, putting a new stockrom in it and the folder is still there. I tried rooting it but I don't understand yet what it is giving me extra. I went to that app in my phone after that rooting but did not see any useful options. I tried installing Cyanogenmod but it kept giving that Error 7 I think and even after cleaning everyhting back to stock it still gave an error, only the stock wanted to be on but the folder remains.
I'm not sure but I think also because of this I could not copy anything from the PC to the phone memory.
Not sure how I got it because I hardly do anything with my phone, few apps from playstore and phone once in a while. Never played any games or downloaded from other sites.
