Hey I'm new to android, just got a vibrant last week. Decided to unlock it as I travel a lot. The unlock worked, but now I'm having issues with my wifi. I can connect to a wireless network but I cant load pages. The wireless signal is strong and I tried with different routers, but still no luck. Looked through the forum and googled it but couldn't find a solution. If some one could please help with this, it would be much appreciated
try clearing your current wifi settings including remembered connections, passwords, and everything else...then re-scan for networks all over again, that's all I can think of for now
By that you mean just gong into settings->wireless and networks->wifi settings and then just forget the net work, rescan, and rejoin the network? If so, I did that but am still getting the same result. If you can think of anything else or if I didnt do what you suggested correctly please let me know. Thanks

yeah, thats what I meant :/....hmmm...sounds like your connection is working, can you download stuff from the market or is it just the browser? cause I unlocked mine too and wifi works fine
No I cant download anything from the market. I cant do anything that requires an internet connection, but it does show that I am connected to a network.

I sure hope so, thanks for your help
Have you been able to try another network? My first thought was it was in Ad-Hoc mode but I could be wrong. If nothing else restore to stock firmware and then try a different unlock.
Happened to me too. It would show the wifi icon on the notification bar but wouldn't load pages. I'd go to the settings and it'd say can't turn off wifi or can't turn on wifi. And when it was "on" I'd say connecting to modem then it'd just stop. When I was using the browser on wifi it would load a page even when I had full bars. I had to turn it off then back on to load another page. Is this similar to the problem your having?

I hope this doesn't sound stupid but yesterday I uninstalled Advanced Task Manager and poof my wifi started working again. The phone also seems to suffer from less occasional lag without it installed, but that's another story for another thread. Prior to this I had to manually turn my wifi connection off and on, but even that didn't always work. Since the uninstall I have not my wifi connection once. I am currently using the stock rom, rooted with minor adjustments here and there.
hi guys, i also have this problem.
i will be taking the phone in to the tmobile store on thursday.
it shows that i am connected via wifi; however, anything that requires an internet connection does not load.
very frustrating, since just yesterday i used the samsung kies software to tether a network for my laptop. i was testing the capability of the vibrant to act as a modem, and it worked just fine.
any help would be appreciated!
thank you
Charlie
connected but not connected
I also have this problem.
In my Vibrant shows that i connected, but i can not load pages. Someone
found any solution to this problem?
Hi all,
This is happening to me too. Rebooting seems to get Wifi working correctly again. But the problem comes back eventually.
Maybe a bug in the latest JI6 update?
Wi-fi problem.
Someone found any solution for this problem?
Froyo's update will fix this issue?
Thanks.

Hi guys, in this days i have noticed a problem with my gsII.
Sometimes I have the gsII connected to my router but internet connection doesn't work.
I'll try to explain better what i mean... I start wifi on my gsII and use internet connection without problem. Then I set the phone in standby mode leaving wifi on. When after a while i want to use internet connection, it doesn't work. The telephone is still connected to my router but i can't use internet on the phone.
The only way to make internet connection work is to disable wifi e then reactivate it.
This is really frustrating....
I've got the telephone from three months but only now I'm noticing this problem because first I used to disable the wifi and activate it only when i need it.
Am I the only to have this problem? Is there a solution?
Thanks to everyone in advance... any help would be appreciated
A video is more than thousands of words, so this is an "example video" of the bug:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4um-AqLk1jw
Test it with a different router, i.e. Cisco E4200.
It would a good idea but i have to buy a new router or go to some friend's house for 2-3 hours. I'll keep this idea in my mind thanks
I have this problem, mines a bt home hub v3. Don't think its the router I blame the phone. I have to restart phone to make it connect with ability to use internet

I do not know what " standby mode" is? I have the same phone and have no problems with wifi. The phone goes to sleep when I do not use it and awakes when I use it.
It seems that your phones wifi is sleeping and not waking up. I always turn it off when not using it anyway. Not the full answer but it works for me.

I believe I know and had the problem you describe.
For me the Wifi would work perfectly at first and then after the phone had been left for a while I would try to use it and get 'no connection' type errors. Sometimes it would even stop working even if I just waited too long with the phone still on in my hand.
I found that if I either disabled router wifi security or set it to WEP the problem disappeared. The issue occurred on 2.3.3. My router is a DLink one fyi. I have yet to test 2.3.4 which came out yesterday in Sweden. Ill let u know.
What version android are u? Does relaxing ur wifi security fix it??

I really should have said that is a workaround not a fix. I can add also that I have contacted Samsung about it. They cannot confirm or deny thru issue but suggested that I take the phone to their service centre. Yay...

Ehm...For standby mode I mean that I lock the phone, I only shut down the display....understand what I mean?
If you turn wifi off when you don't use it, you'll never see this bug. Try to leave wifi on for some hours if you want to understand if also your gsII has this bug.

I'm wondering if a full wipe would help . In this days I'm really hating this bug.
Ps: A really strange thing of this bug that i've noticed is that internet connection doesn't work but the program androidVNC perfectly works!! Instead if I try to open 192.168.0.1 (router address) with any browser (opera, dolphin, stock's browser) it doesn't work!!

I tried changing the channel also. I have heard others getting this to work. Didn't work for me. You can use Wifi Analyser app on phone to find a clear channel and see how u go changing your router perhaps?
I tried re flashing also using factory restore. No fix for me.
Also noticed that u can sometimes get phone to work by toggling Network Data on/off. Not really fun either.
The wifi channels and security settings I am talking about are settings in the router not the phone. What wifi security are you using in your router?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I am not a believer the router is at fault in any case. I would entertain an incompatibility but nothing more.
Original router and security settings work fine for...wait for it...an iphone 3gs and a Motorola Defy (yes the phone which seems to have issues with doing everything else!)
Either way an incompatibility is not acceptable either if that's what it is

I know this, and in fact i have to switch off and on wifi connection when this happens.
Now i'm trying to use channel 5 with the router ( but yesterday I've tested channel 6 and 13 without any result)
I hate this bug because beacause it happens only when he wants! I'm quite sure that assistance wouldn't solve the problem. A friend of mine has changed three gsII and said that every gsII that he has changed had this bug!
Ps: Another question.... How often do you have this bug?
Once a week? Once a day? Three times a day?

Is NOT the phone.
i have the same problem reported in the 1st post.
i have been turning wifi off and then on again for a quick fix until now but i think the solution might be to drop the security on the router from WPA to WEP. Haven't tried it yet tho, because it doesn't bother me that much.
I had an ipad previously (before i had the SGS2) and it had exactly the same behaviour. I looked up the problem then and found a FAQ from the ISP that mentioned a compatibility problem between ipad and that router, so their suggestion was to set the router to WEP only.

Easily more than 3 times a day but then I use the phone a lot.
Problem had never occurred when I used only 3G. That was my workaround when I got fed up with it before I dropped the wifi security.

For me it happens always after the phone comes back from stand by with wifi on.
steps to reproduce:
1-turn wifi on, and check it's connected and working
2-press power button to turn off screen
3-turn phone back on, try to access a new web page, it doesn't work
I noticed that while it's in stand by i will still receive email notifications so it probably only looses the connection when i turn it on again.
Also, if there was some program working (say, a download) when i went into standby it will probably still be transferring when it comes out of stand by, it's just the new connections that fail.
Hi
I have a very weird problem with Galaxy S3.
The problem is that suddenly out of the blue, the phone no longer connected to my home wifi, which it had no problems connecting to it.
the signal is extremely weak, and only connects to it when you sit next to the router.
When you forget the connection, the bars go up and connection looks very strong. as soon as you start connecting to it, it drops to the way it was, and not getting connected.
All other stuff I have (laptop and other phones) work perfectly, so not a router thing
I have rooted and updated to the latest ROM, but still same problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
is this happening with all wifi networks or just ur home network. If only on home network then try turning off your router and then restart it after some time to see if thats causing the problem.
also have u installed any updates/roms recently?

Well, I have not tried any other wifi, but I have another phone and laptop that work perfectly with the same router.
I also restarted the router, but nothing's happened.
I installed another ROM, but this time it keeps asking for password as it says it is incorrect. but as soon as I stand next to the Router, it hooks up to it with same supposedly incorrect password.
Regards

Try a Google, there were a few threads concerning it a while back, with several solutions I seem to remember
Try running router for a few days with no security see what happens .

Nothing worked!!!
Dear all,
I have tried every solution there is, tried so many routers , work, hotels, cafes ..nothing same problem keeps coming up - authentication error occurred.
when you get close enough to router it works automatically.
I have since replaced firmware many times, have replaced the antenna, but nothing ...same problem.
Any help please, I am out of ideas!!!
The only idea for me is dump it and buy an iphone!

I am facing the exact same problem with my S3.
I have all security/no security. Is there any solution?????
i can also try to repair my phone, provided someone can explain what to repair.
Looking for a response.
Same problem
Hi,
I have the exact problem.
Wifi works when phone close to router (2-3 metres). When away it still shows connected but wont have internet access.
If I try to connect little away from router with full wifi signal, it says "Saved Secured" or Authentication error.
Tried flashing different stock roms but still same problem. Tried resetting router. Tried changing router channel and disabling security. But still same.
Anyone fixed this issue?

Hello everyone,
Last week, suddenly i could not connect to my Home Wifi. And now that I am at the office a tryed again. No luck.
When I hit the SSID in my netwrok list it seems to connect but within a seconde it says: savec, secured. And I un-disable the screen so i can hit the network name again.
I just performed a reset, probleem is sill here. Is this a hardware issue? Is there some logging somewhere?
Kind regards,

If you are on stock rom, you can try entering service mode by dialling *#0011# and disabling Wireless Power Saving mode.
There was another fix involving etc/wifi folder on the device, but I cant find the thread atm.

I'm trying to find the right thread which had this info.
You can also make sure that the router doesn't have too many connected devices, sometimes that is also a problem.
BUT if it connects and then drops (It says "Connected" then "Saved, Secured") then that could also mean hardware issue. Because there is no problem connecting but your phone can not maintain connectivity.

I think it's an hardware issue. It stops suddenly after 2 years of good service. Do you know if it's something that can be replaced? Or is is on the mainboard? And shoudl i buy a new one?
