Hi all,
I just got the new Toshiba Folio 100 Today. it's (i think) the most powerfull tablet at this moment with his Tegra dual core proc. My question is if it's possible to root that tablet in order to have androit market and install custom rom??
Thanks all for your response...
Paul
Hi,
Sorry I haven't got an answer to your query, but do you mind saying where you got the unit from.
Thanks
Danny
Where has stock?
Try using the nvflash utility from nvidia in their linux4tegra package. You need to work out if the device will boot up in flashing mode. If so, you ought to be able to download the system partition, loop mount it, add su, and re-upload. Works on the AC100 which looks very similar.
Hi guys,
Thanks for your answer! I found the device in France cause i'm french... Sorry about that!
Hope that someone Will root the device and kitchen somers good roms!
See ya
You should probably look at the viewsonic g tab thread, theres a root method in there which will probably work since its basically the same device.

Hi Yes it is!
as you can see on a frandroid forum
they can install the market but it's seems that they can't connect on the market because the device try to connect trougth a GSM 3g/EDGE connexion and don't used the WiFi connexion
I got it today , so im gonna give it a quick look..
Market and network issues should be an easy fix, if framework is ok, otherwise the "ip" command will be patched to serve our own purpose, so we can go onto Market

Really How?
If someone can root it and make a system.img dump, we could test this out on the GTablet.
On the flip side, we have a system.img for the GTab here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9013457&postcount=630
(this has a modified UI, so keep that in mind)
Also, we found a zPad system.img which is buried in here:

its no Gtablet initially, Recovery firmware is different and the 2button power up+down does not work on this toshiba..
Power+up gives a textbased recovery to factory settings only. (probably a wipe of DATA+CACHE partitions) , so not much recovery here yet.
there is no axx. to the APX driver yet, im trying some different key operations, and btw, ABD does not work it seems to (i tried the SDK pack, but no adb activation)
sofar, less impressive of the machine, screen does not work in "portrait" mode at all, i think.. its a native landscape tablet..

How you get the recovery mode?
If you can dump the update.zip, I'd love to get a copy of that.
Thanks!
To make Working ADB and root the te device it's se same way as the G-Tablet
All you need to Root the Folio is on this thread
Yes please get us the update.zip so we can check it out on the gtab.
I try to dum the boot.imp with busybox but i get :

Hi, i have a Netbook AKAI 7'' NBPC724. It has Android 2.2 installed. But as you can imagine it doesn't work really good. Then i want to install Lubuntu/Ubuntu on the Netbook and use it as a normal pc. But i cannot Root it, because it doesn't have the Debug Mode Option in the menu.
That's the question: HOW CAN I INSTALL UBUNTU?
I thought that as a normal pc also that netbook has a Boot Menu but i don't know if i am right and how to access to it.
Please help me.
It's not quite what you're looking for, but this thread has info about installing various Linux distros (including Ubuntu) on top of Android:

Exactly, it isn't what i am looking for.
Well, it's the best you're likely to get. Chances are the device you have is NOT a standard netbook, seeing as it came with Android. i.e. you probably can't access the BIOS or load a standard computer OS onto it. This is probably the only option there is.

1.) USBDebug apk from Google Play
You can switch on/off debuf mode now
2.) z4root

but then? no recovery mode I found to install new Android. Good luck and tell us whe you have success

My allwinner A10 tablet came pre-rooted or so I thought. I installed CWM v6.1.0.2 via the terminal emulator but wasn't able to reboot back to my OS.
I then wiped cache partition and wiped data, it would not allow me to wipe the dalvik cache.
At the end of each process I see:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount/cache/recovery/log
Also for /last-log of the two above.
I have got an A10 cm10 rom which I have tried to install via the external sd but no luck.
Any help would be appreciated as I have no clue what I can do next.
Do you know the model or make of your device? What are all of the specs? If you have that information I can probably lead you to a support forum for your device.
I recently recovered my A10 device flashing a .img of a totally different A10 tablet and most of my tablets features work. I tried flashing 100 other .img files and none of those worked correctly.
Where did you get that CWM file? Was it CWM that was specific for A10 devices? You can't just flash any recovery to your device and expect it to work.
Your issue is likely that the CWM is not for your device or it's just having issues with your device. I'm using CWM 6.0.1.1 for Allwinner A10 ICS. I got it onto my device using a simple one click method, but in order for you to use it you have to be on a rom that at least boots up with the display working.
Once you give me information on your device I can try searching for some .img files for you to flash onto your device with Livesuit. If you're lucky enough you'll get one that is specific for your device, if your not so lucky you're going to be breaking your head trying to find a rom that at least boots up with most features working. It's a lesson learned, don't mess with your device unless you have the necessary resources as a backup in the event that something goes wrong.
Hi, thanks for the reply, unfortunately I don't know the make. When it is connected to the PC it shows as BC1077. It came in a completely unmarked box. Here are the specs:

To be honest it's just a long search through each tablets board to find a post that lists the specs. I'm realizing that's a big headache.
I personally just flashed random A10 images onto my device. Nothing bad seemed to happen to my device, but I'm not sure if the same is going to apply to you. If you feel like taking the chance you can just flash some images and cross your fingers hoping it doesn't do anything to your device. When I did it the worst that happened was that the roms either didn't display anything, displayed a static image, display was off center, touch controls didn't work, or got stuck at boot screen, then one finally worked.
I can try to link you to some A10 firmware images and LiveSuitPack if you want to take the chance.

It's very simple actually.
Here's the LiveSuitPack tool: http://www.topnotchtablets.com/LivesuiteInstall
Here's the guide for installing firmware: http://www.topnotchtablets.com/A10Firmware
In the guide for installing firmware substitute the menu button for volume down button if you don't have a menu button.
There are two firmwares to download on the firmware installation guide page, although I don't think either of those will work at all to begin with. Try them if you'd like. Give me a few minutes to boot into my other partition so I can get all the links of images I bookmarked.

No, once you download the Livesuitpack you're going to open the folder and run LiveSuitPack_v1.07. That'll install some drivers, or it'll ask you if you want to install some drivers, click Yes. From there you're going to run the LiveSuit application. Then you follow the steps for getting the new firmware onto your device.
EDIT: The drivers that the Livesuitpack installs onto your computer also make your device recognizable in ADB (if you know what that is and ever have a use for it). I also couldn't find drivers for my device for the longest and these seem to work at making your device recognizable across your computer.

No luck so far, I flashed one image which gave me a sort of cracked looking screen affect, other images I have tried to flash do not make it to 100%?
I am not sure if I have now completely bricked it?
I am still looking for images that closely match my pad and will try again this evening.

Your device shouldn't brick. I believe A10 devices have all necessary code in the chip itself, or something along those lines. The cracked looking screen effect means that it isn't compatible with your device, I came across plenty of roms that did that to my device, all you do if flash the next image.
I haven't come across any issues with it not getting to 100%. I can only suggest you retry it, or move on to the next image.

Iv got similar problems with my BC1077. Iv been trying to fix it for the last few days. Im not 100% sure, but I think the problem Iv quoted above is that CWM does not support jellybean, so it wont work with cm10, which is jellybean.
Over the last few days Iv flashed 40+ A10 firmwares to my tablet, but Iv only found 1 that installs properly and boots for me. It actually works pretty well, only major issue iv noticed is auto rotate doesnt work. But this same working firmware is also jellybean, after I install CWM I get bootloops and have to reflash the firmware again to boot.
Heres a link to the firmware that works for my BC1077 - http://www.ssb-repair.com/Firmwares/Cherry/M1007_20121217.zip
Its for a completly different tablet (Cherry Mobility - M007), but like I said it works on mine.
Heres another firmware it might be worth you trying to flash, its the only BC1007 specific firmware Iv found, but it wont install on my tablet, I always get a 0x162 error from it. Heres the link - http://www.pandawillforum.com/soft/mate sku20314 firmware for May 25 stock.rar
Good luck, let us know if you make any progress.
I think I might have been flashing with a very low battery, if a flash was unsuccessful halfway through would this not brick the tablet.
I am not getting any kind of response from the screen at all and when I try to flash although the drivers appear to load the % bar doesn't go up.

Thanks for that, I will try tonight and get back.
OK, regardless of the image I try to flash the livesuit progress bar gets to 3% and then goes back to 0% and then nothing.
Anyone?
If the battery was low and the flashing process didn't finish all you have to do is load up the exact image that didn't finish flashing into LiveSuit and put your tablet into download mode and let it do its thing. I had the same problem and got scared my tablet was bricked, so I just did the process I stated above and it finished. It wouldn't allow me to flash another rom, I'd get the little Livesuit pop up that you get after a rom successfully flashes, so if that's the same pop up you're getting don't be alarmed.

I dont think your tablet is bricked, if it was I doubt it would respond to Live Suite or PheonixUSB pro at all. From what Iv read about the A10 its meant to be unbrickable.
What error codes does live suite/pheonixUSB give you when they stop?
if youre getting 0x120 and 0x162 errors, just keep trying more firmwares out till you find one that will install without errors.
Theres loads of A10 Allwinner firmwares at this link - http://androidtabletfirmware.com/firmware_search/order=2/sort=1

So I got mine W8 beyond two days ago.
So far so good, but:
1. GPS problem. I am geocacher (more at: geocaching.com) and I need accurate GPS. When I stood still in the open for few minutes, I could see GPS jumping around for 400-900 meters for no reason. AGPS and EPO activated. We will see how it goes
2. I would love to get polish language settings, since there are some apps which fetch the content depending on Your language setting (I know that this is poor design, but this is how they works), so that would be nice. Not an issue anymore. I installed MoreLocale2 and pm'ed it which is more than enough at the moment.
3. I do not see option for sorting the apps in the main apps menu (it was working on my old Lenovo A750) - am I missing something?First 9 icons are fixed and alphabelical, the rest is just alphabetical. I can live with that.
4. I have my contacts stored with country prefix which is not used by my operator. I do not see my contacts data when they are calling me.
The SMSes are provided by operator with country prefix, so the problem is with calls only. I tried to follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2268120 but I am unable to decompile framework.jar - no classes.dex inside. I am not able to deodex framework.odex either, so I am stuck for the moment.GravityMod2 3.0 ROM fixed that problem.
The link provided with the tools and howto contains W8_beyond.JB2.FHD.EN.COM.8P128_MT6589TV1.0.1_20130618-cwm6033.img,
when I go to phone info at my phone I can see W8_beyond.JB2.FHD.EN.COM8P128_MT6589TV1.0.2_20130626.
Seems like I have newer firmware. If anyone can tell me how to extract this, I would be more than happy to share.
GravityMod2 3.0 installed - not an issue anymore
For my good old Lenovo I was able to modify the ROM as soon as I got my hands on any ROM in zip format. I guess I could also try to compile something (I am a programmer), but since I am extremely low on time I would need MT6589T kernel patch (is it the same like mt6589) and some basic manual.
Anyone interested?

Thanks, but I got A-GPS and EPO already enabled and EPO downloaded.
I till try to go to the engineering menu and locking via YGPS.
As I understood from google translator, I should just wait for lock and then close everything. Since then everything should be running smoothly. Am I right?
What about my other questions? Lack of polish is driving my crazy. My news feeds are all US which is driving me crazy ...

Guys ..... HELP!!!!
with my habit of fiddling I think I brick the cell.
I tried the guide for root and recovery for the beyond, but now I can not turn on anymore, not even in recovery mode, the LED does not light up even if I put it on charge.
Can anyone give me some advice on where I can start to revive the terminal?
Thanks in advance. :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

I am not sure if it helps (I am quite sure it does not acctually), but which version was running on your phone prior to root attempt? Which part has failed? writting the CWM image or rooting?
Try to connect the phone to the PC via usb and then turning it on. If PC reacts (ADB device as far as I rememeber will be recognized) then there might be chance for You.

2. When I continue the falsh tool opens but when I try to upload the scatter file I get the following error: "Incorrect scatter file format!"
3. My current build number is: W8_beyond.JB2.FHD.EN.COM.8P128_MT6589TV1.0.2_20130626. Can I still use the image you provided ?

Hi guys,
I am having trouble to install the drivers for the THL W8 Beyond that I have. My model is:
W8_beyond.JB2.FHD.EN.COM.8P128_MT6589TV1.0.1_20130618
When connecting it to the computer it will install HTC drivers under Android Phone entry in device manager and also W8 Beyond under Portable Device.
I cannot root the phone using the msdos script or SP Flash tool. Also Snapea does not see the device. On the same computer I used a ZOPO C2 Platinum and Snapea found that instantly and I could rooted and also pushed a custom ROM.
Now... wish I could also root this THL to be able to back-up my stock ROM. No need for me to work with a custom, just need to be able to back-up the original ROM just to be safe.
Can you please help me in regards to the communication problem between computer with Win 7 64bit and the THL W8 Beyond phone?
Thank you.

The easiest and only way i could root my W8 beyond is with this program:
droidchina.com/forum/Thread-ROOT-GUI-Root-Wizard-for-MTK65xx-phones
Hello XDA community, this is my first thread, i had never needed to post anything cause i always find everything im searching for in this awesome community... until now :crying:
Last week I got a new android device which is made by Polaroid, model: PSPR355, its a pretty low class device but I thought it would be enough for me.... then i realize I needed root permissions, for obvious reasons... easy I thought... i had rooted many devices...how hard can it be...right?... WRONG! :crying: . The first problem I encountered were the drivers..couldnt find em anywhere... fortunatelly i found a tutorial were i could install the drivers in a different way...although I took 2 days to do this...Ive been about 5 days trying to root my phone.... Ive tryied about 10 different programs with their different versions... and any of those rooted my phone, nor Oneclikroot, nor Unlockroot, etc, etc..... I really gave up trying to find something on the web cause i didnt even find the phone on its official site, so I came her defeated asking for any solution, idea, or if you want to help me with commands, a programm or anything else to root my phone, Im not even afraid of trying programming (Im trying to learn how to make roms, kernels, etc for this phone cause theres nothing on the web abou it but this is a theme for another time) if you wanted to help me i would really appreciate it, im a little desperate so anything would come useful thanks everyone and I hoppe you can help me!!! :fingers-crossed:

I would recommend trying the towelroot application. It can be downloaded from here, just click on the orange lambda to download the tr.apk file. Then open towelroot follow the instructions in the application. After the device reboots I would recommend downloading, Root Checker Basic form the Play Store and running that to make sure your device is rooted. Finally install SuperSU, and you should be good to go.
First thanks for answering so fast shimp208! And I guess I forgot to tell that I was in Mexico and Im using Telcel's network, I downloaded and installed the apk file but it doesnt starts I click the button pops up a black screen and then closes to the last app I used...any idea about this error...or if its beacuse of the carrier, by the way the device has Android 2.3.7 I dont know if it has something to do with this error

Does it present an error message of any kind before it force closes? Try uninstalling and then re-installing the application, and if that doesn't work go to application manger under settings, find the towelroot application and select the options to clear it's cache and data. The carrier won't have any effect in this case, and with it being Android 2.3.7 your device most definitely has a kernel build date before June 3rd, 2014.

No it simply closes without showing anything, and without even giving the "Force Close" message, i thought it was because i first installed it on the sd card, or because of not enough space but no, I moved it to the phone and uninstalled some apps I had, I uninstalled and installed towelroot twice and it didnt work, I installed the v1 of it and i got to the [make it ra1n] screen but when I click the button it closes immediately again without any error message

Very interesting, while in theory the app should work for any kernel build date earlier then June 3rd, 2014 the app many not be compatible with devices running an Android version less then 4.x.

Since you have the usb drivers working on your computer, try booting into the bootloader and using fastboot to see if the command fastboot devices returns anything. If the computer see's the device in fastboot that's a good sign. If your device doesn't have a locked bootloader which it likely doesn't, then I can try and create a rooted system image for you to flash in fastboot. Provided fastboot see's your device if it does, if you can provide me an adb dump of your /system folder then I will see what can be done.
Interesting for me.,.

Unfortunately if fastboot doesn't show your device without any other flashing utility, even with the system dump there is no way to flash a rooted system image if it was created.
Got to see if this guys do the trick!

Since your computer recognizes the device and installed the driver and shows the device when in fastboot mode that's a good sign. The Android with the exclamation point is part of normal stock Android system recovery, it just means that the recovery menu has been hidden (You should be able to get the menu to appear by pressing the power and both the volume buttons in recovery mode). To dump /system run the following command:
Code:
adb pull /system
Then please send me a link to the /system dump, from there I will make a rooted system image.
Factory Rooted??
Hey guys I'm new to this so I may be wrong but has anybody thought to check if the Polaroid PSPR355 comes Factory Rooted??? I had a Polaroid Tablet, PID something(I forget the name), which I tried for hours to root resulting in: bootloop, hard reset, root, bootloop, hard reset, root, bootloop, hard reset, about to give up. So I Googled how to root Polaroid PID something (again, I forget the name), and I come to a post somewhere(forgot that too) that tells me my Tablet and similar Polaroid electronic devices(as well as most electronic devices coming from China) are factory rooted due to some Chinese law. So after the last hard reset, I downloaded HowToRoot App to check if my Polaroid Tablet is, in fact, rooted. I press the little lock button(root checker) and I find that, to my surprise, my Polaroid Table is in fact rooted. So all I had to do was download SuperSU from Google Play Store and Update Binary when prompted and I was Super User. Don't know if this helps but it worked for me.
Is this the right forum area? I posted over in CF-Auto root with no response, figured I would try here.
http://www.randmcnally.com/product/tnd-tablet
It supposedly has a custom proprietary build Rand McNally uses. It has a built in recovery of which I'll post a screen.
The "reboot to bootloader" option simply hangs on the boot screen.
I've tried kingroot/kingoroot, towelroot, and googled my life away trying to root this GPS/tablet.
There doesn't seem to be a way to flash a custom recovery without bricking it(unsupported device), and there's no way to pull the recovery.img without root!
Can anyone help? The rooting of these devices would open up a world of possibilities.
How is it possible to root this thing if its not recognized by fastboot? Any attempt of rebooting into bootloader even through external tools is stuck on bootscreen.
It allows the Delevoper option of unlocking bootloader, but how if I can't even send the command? Not only is bootloader locked, it seems completely off limits.
Some possibly relevant details from bugreport, and the logcat file???

I think you adb reboot ....
it could be .. bootloader.. fastboot..RUU...RRU..recovery..
I cant remember exactly. I had to get root first I think. this device has an Allwinner A64 chipset on a tulip board. Allwinner has everything available on github and a wiki site for building roms for this device and others.

if I could ever get a copy of the api or a compiler to work correctly on linux... I'd have my own to flash on.
Also I've never tried but there is another USB port on the back of this thing where the 2nd GPS hooks on. you might be able to boot or access some un secured path through that.

I guess i should have been more careful when i posted here, i actually have an Rand McNally OveryDryve 8 not a TND series tablet, and thats the one i cant get into fastboot too get the bootloader unlocked and then root and stuff....
If i cant get fastboot commands too works i cant do anything else...
I would use dr.Phone like others have, but it does not install seemless root apparently, it modifies files that break updates, and i dont want that, id prefer Magisk with seemless so i can then install safteynet and gapps properly

Short answer.... You cant.... I tried with a previously rooted model too send the apk file, even if it installs on your new device, it wont work without ALL of the RM Services apps as well, and all have too be system apps and setup just right or its not going too work... I gave up and never ened up getting it too work because i couldnt get half of the apks too istall let alone run without crashing constantly...
I've spoken to rand and they seem to think their GPS hardware is better than that found in today's phones like they are Holy as ####. Their systems are junk but the 2.0 navigation is far worse, I want to pull the old software and install it to a newer or different device like y'all. I'm willing to put some money towards the goal, I know some of my friends would do the same, anyone up for starting a fund, or someone have the skills to make it happen? Let's get this rolling!
Side notes, if you look at the older devices specifically the tndt80 that has Google play on it, (newer ones don't!) I at one time had the installation files and installed them onto a cell phone. I was able to run a route comparison before the software realized my Samsung galaxy wasn't a tnd tablet, once it realized it wasn't one of their devices it had a message saying that and closed down.
I'm pretty sure that's on one of my old phones with a busted screen, I'll get some screens ordered and see if I'm right (hopefully!)
So besides the installation files that would be the next hurdle, maybe an emulator to bypass the device name/serial etc to allow it to run?
