Bionix fusion can't mount pc?! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying on my work comp and it's says un known hardware... Is it fusion?. Im on mass storage
Vibrant Bionix

running fusion here..
This has happened only on my work computer and not my laptop at home.
go to settings / applications / development and turn off USB debugging. Then go to USB settings and set it to ASk On connection. Turn USB Debugging back on.
Now when you plug in it is gonna ask you how you want to connect. I believe you select mass storage and your computer should recognize. Then you mount your SD to your computer.
This is what I did to get it to connect to my work computer. Afterwards i reverted my settings back to normal and my phone connects to my laptop.
Hope that works.

your pc is probably not able to download the drivers....

You nailed it. Thanks man. Anyway around it?.. The net is locked down pretty tight so probably not huh?
Vibrant Bionix

Download the drivers from another pc and attach it via a usb storage drive and transfer it to your pc and install. (windows should already have the drivers pre-installed for USB drives).

That happened to me once, I restarted my computer and it worked. I would also just tried another USB port after that
I've been having this problem for awhile. I've switched phones, computers
erased my sd. I don't know what the problem is.. Ive even bought a new usb cord. I'm going to buy a new sd card and try that. My computer says it doesn't recognize my phone. All I want is too put music on my card.. It worked so nice before the ota 2.1...i really appreciate your input.
It could be the drivers. See if it gives you the option to uninstall the drivers from Device Manager. Maybe you can add an ADB device. I forget how.

USB is very complicated??

If you are on Windows: Samsung drivers installed?
Did you try different USB port?
Is USB debugging enabled? Settings->Applications->Development
What are the USB settings on the phone? Settings->Applications->USB settings
Mass storage mode doesn't work for me on Win 7 x64 I just use the media player setting and it works the same way as mass storage should.
It works for me just fine. One time it did do the flickering USB icon thing, but that turned out to be because the cable that I was using was going bad. It sounds like this may be what's going on in your case?
I clipped this from a post I made a few months ago...

For those of you having a problem with Windows 7 recognizing your Vibrant ... here is how I fixed it on my system.
*Note: You do not need to load any special USB drivers for your phone to be recognized in Mass Storage mode in Windows 7.
*Warning: You follow these instructions at your own risk ... no screaming at me if you try it and something gets screwed up!
1) Navigate your way into the Device Manager / Universal Serial Bus Controller
2) Uninstall the device(s) "USB Root Hub" (My system had 2 listed)
3) You will lose mouse and keyboard control (because you just removed the USB Hubs)
4) Reset your PC and allow Windows to boot normally.
5) Go back to the device manager and wait for all of the "!" marks to go away as windows re-installs the USB Hubs and reinitializes all of your devices.
6) Make sure your Vibrant is in mass storage mode and has USB debugging OFF
7) Plug in your Vibrant via the USB cable and be amazed as windows recognizes your device and assigns the drive letters. After you select the mount option on your phone you will have normal access via windows explorer.
Hope this helps some of you out there !!!

[Q]Can not transfer files to device via USB

Hi,
My USB is behaving really wierd.
If I use USB debug my device is not recognized at al by my computer. With USB debug unchecked it's recognized and I can view and delete files but not transfer any new one. Transfer just results in a timeout saying "device disconnected".
This applies to both the internal and external card.
Tired different cables, different computers and operative systems.
Please help, tired of transfer files via keys air all the time :/

Hey,
when u have the Debugging mode activated and want to see it on PC, u have to hit the notification, which appears when u connect it.
Then press connect USB and it should appear on PC
When u don't use this mode it went in an "Kies-mode" which PC directly recognize.
Or when u go to settings>Wireless etc>USB and press here "Use USB as Masstorage" it's the same like when u press activate on notification while debuggin mode.
Hope I helped a bit ...

Transfer a small file see if that times out .

I know this is not a solution to your problem, but I recommend transferring files over wifi (NOT KIES AIR) which, to me, is much more simpler and better way.
Here is how:
first install free "SwiFTP FTP Server" application from Market
install it and enter desired username and password. Enable wifi and start application.
On your computer or laptop, install some FTP client (I recommend "Filezilla").
Enter user information you previously configured on your smartphone, connect and voila! You know have access to all of your smartphone's files and folders.
Like I said, for me, this is much better and simpler way of transferring files than using USB cable. Give it a try and see.

I would like to know how you solved this issue as I am currently going through the same thing

ICS and USB debug/Mass storage

With the new ICS firmware (and I don't know if its all ICS) you need to turn off debug in order to use Mass Storage.
Is there any application or other way around this? It gets a little annoying to always have to do this.
Titanium backup needs debugging on for some of my apps and if not using mass storage mode the phone connects via MTP mode which is very slow
I would willingly pay for an app/widget that does the following
Once pressed turns off debug and asks you to plug in USB for mass storage.
Prior to disconnecting the USB cable you select to disconnect which then un-mounts the storage and then turns back on debug
figure should be easy to make for some dev out there
Anyone have an idea on this?
Guess no one out there has an idea
Hmm, for me the only difference running ICS and checking or unchecking dev option/USB debugging is whether or not I can manually unmount the phone in Windows, it always connects as a media device and I have no otion to turn that off.
Mediamonkey takes forever when my phone is connected as MTP (say 15 minutes to build the sync list?), and the only real option to use it to send fresh music to my phone WAS connecting it as mass storage (15 SECONDS for the sync list).
So I would really really appreciate any hints on how to get my S2 to connect as mass storage. It's the official ROM rooted using Chainfires respective kernel.

Or at least an app that selects and deselects the option automatically as I mention above.
Sure a dev somewhere can make lots of money for an app like this

Thanks for the info but I already knew this. Also you didnt need all these steps in gingerbread and previous software versions.
Also for people using USB debug this must be turned off before being able o do all of the above.
Im just saying an app can be made that does all of this with one click
Well, get onboard here, test and say if it works.
I have USB Debugging always on and I am currently running LP7 version of ICS.
When I plug in the the phone I get the Media Device (MTP) coming up on the phone - which is ticked.
In Windows Explorer (Windows XP) just below Control Panel (in the folders window) is a +GT-I9100. Clicking on the + I see a subfolder +Phone The items in this folder are the Internal SD of the phone.
From this I just drag and drop. I haven't noticed any difference in speed between this new way and the old method in Gingerbread.

Try transferring a large file you will see the difference between transfer speeds in MTP mode and mass storage.
Also with MTP you can only do one thing at a time. For example let's say you are transferring files. While doing that you want to erase something else. It will wait for the original transfer to finish prior to starting

But will this work even with debug on?
Yes. As mentioned in the linked post:
- connect cable
- classic "usb connected" notification appears in notification bar with option to do usb mount
- adb available.
Doesn't like my Mac either
When connecting my galaxy s2, I get the attached error.

MTP wont even work properly on my Windows 7 machine. It refuses to update the explorer process as long as the phone is plugged in. So navigating the phone means a lot of plugging and unplugging to get anything out of it.
Changing to UMS means my 2 devices (Internal SD and External SD) are visisble right away, but sadly are not displayed with any storage bars underneath . As a result I can't access them anyway and the second my phone goes to standby it stops the "process".
So any help or hints how to get my damned phone to actually work and show the storage bars underneath is most welcomed.

How to connect to PC without opening USB Mass Storage??

So here is the deal - earlier I could connect my SGS2 to PC with USB Debbuging turned on, and nothing poped up and I could use storage and sd card on PC and at the same time on the phone, like open it with some file explorer, and install apps when still connected to PC... Sound awesome, because now there is this - When I am in USB debbuging and connected to PC, it cant find storages, so I have to disable debugging, and there pops up this USB Mass Storage when i connect the cable. When it is connected to PC, I cant access files on the phone in that moment.... So what is wrong??
Will be pleased for all suggestions..
Thanks

When you connect to computer, dont do it in Debugging mode. If you change it windows (forcing MTP) dont like that. So it will require you to remove phone and reboot. But try the following also
delete all old drivers and remove them in registry. (if needed check the below link)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1882942
Still not working go to device manger "type it in start"
Go to View
Select Hidden Driver
Go To Non_Plug and Play Drivers
Right Click on Hardware Policy Driver
Go To Driver Tab,
Stop this device
and Disable it
Restart Windows ( unplug phone first, disable network card also)
Disable WiFi or network card, (double tap)
Plug in Phone
Allow windows to load the drivers on your phone.
(don't stop this at all)
Look for phone.
Later you can add updated drivers if you would like. Remember windows keeps all old drivers, even if its jacked up. PnP will still run.
This works on Vista and above. haven't tested it on XP.
IMPORTANT
U must re-enable the change to the device manager after this, or each time you reboot it will reload the drivers.
