2.1 Contacts + Timescape = aaaargh! - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

I seem to have found an Android 2.1 bug, and it's due to the supposedly improved integration with Timescape and Contacts..
Timescape now automatically updates your contact list with facebook and twitter contacts. That's nice, isn't it?
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone on my twitter account (it's all software houses and product updates and stuff), and I don't know (or want to know) the phone numbers of most of my facebook friends.
Luckily, there is an option in contacts to only show contacts from certain sources, so you can tell it not to show contacts from facebook or twitter, or even google or the phone.
Alas, you can tell it until you're blue in the face, but it still shows them, no matter what you yell it to show. :|
But fear not; there is also an option to hide contacts who have no phone number! Sweet, huh? Well, no - that doesn't work, either. :'(
So now my contact list is full of people I don't want to phone, and the only way to get rid of them is to sign out of my accounts in Timescape, meaning Timescape is useless. I'm just glad I'm not one of those people with hundreds of random facebook friends!
*sigh*

Yep. I have exactly the same problem. It's weird though - I have a Google contact, and a facebook contact. The FB contact is correctly linked to the google contact but in some situations (Usually where the FB name has a nickname or summat) they're displayed again. But you can 'delete' them.
I'm just dealing with the Big List. I came from a Palm Pre so I'm fairly search oriented anyway.

same problem here; i don't think this bug is related to Timescape... the whole options screen is buggy, you can see the "google", "facebook", etc labels go away when you select one of them.

i have no problem with that on my phone, i have link my contacts with timescape, facebook and twitter and i still only have my google contacts shown in contacts

Did you upgrade to 2.1? Does the "hide contacts without phone number" (or whatever it is in english) option also work?

yes all works

i also noticed that the starred (favorites) contacts tab disappeared from the contact list.
[edit]
...ok, solved! It's a Launcher PRO default shortcut bug. If you open the contact list from the applications list, all the problems (missing starred tab, messy list) go away. So... delete the default contact list icon, and recreate it.

[Q] Contacts Links To Facebook

Hi Guys,
I have Upgraded to Generic 2.1 and i am very impressed by 99% of the update.
I am trying to link some contacts to facebook, most of this is trial. However, contacts that are not saved under the same name as in facebook, are trickier?
It used to be a case of just clicking link contact, and choosing a facebook profile, but i can not find this option.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks
Dave
Solved.. Thanks!
Im too having problems with this,
i dont really want my phonebook to be full of firstnames and surnames just so i can see facebook updates,
Press menu once inside the edit window of the contact u want to pair and press join and just choose the profile that fits better then choose the pic to show or just change it by clicking over it.... For me its workin great i dont c the big deal... Good luck
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
well, i've tried this metod and the problem basically remains.
- you long click on your friend name in the contact list and choose "join..." (friend listed here as for example "kleenex")
- you pick your friends facebook profile (he entered on facebook "Kris Leenox")
- the profiles are joined BUT are displayed in contact list as "Kris Leenox".
the name is there, the surname is there, the nickname is set, BUT you see Facebook's name on the list. And editing this joined contact gives under "facebook" - "you cannot edit facebook on this device" or something like that.
so, basically, it sucks.
I AM choosing my names on contact list, F..k Facebook, i wont surrender my freedom just like that
ahh thanks for your help, ive linked them all now,
but yeah i know what you mean about the names thing
I dont mind somepeople having full names, like there are about 7 adams in my phone so its usefull there, but i dont want my mom and my girlfriend to have their fullnames displayed too
damn you 2.1 update,
i love you but you dont half make things a ballache
Hi,
I notice there is another problem, I have 2 same names of my contact which is as below :
1) Jason
Facebook
2) Jason
[email protected]
So which is the correct one?
If we link to the correct facebook profile, when we click on their picture from the phonebook, should it appear the Facebook icon from the options?
Damn phonebook
Here I was, thinking that the "social phonebook" would work wonders.
Sort of, yes, but the naming thing is a real pain in the neck. Pleeeeeze, if only I could control which name is shown in the phonebook. So, actually, this doesn't merge contacts, rather it just mixes them into big contact cards, with possibly duplicate numbers. The worst is, apparently the new details, from facebook or twitter aren't synced back to the contact details e.g. in your gmail contacts.
Still stranger, the contacts on the phone don't even exist? I mean, the gmail contact cards reside "somewhere" and are not the same as those saved on the phone. That's not syncing, either.
What to do?
In the interim, I'd be happy with a 3rd party app that merges & syncs back & forth, but.... which one delivers? (The ones I've seen so far just mess up your contact cards, sometimes very badly).
Just to add to the confusion... I seem to have two Facebook phonebooks on my X10:
For some contacts, when I enter edit mode, there is first the section from my gmail account, then there's the section from Facebook Timescape, then there's the section from Facebook [my email]!
Anyone know why that is? Is facebook in timescape treated as a different profile from the built-in facebook app?
The two facebooks situation comes from a) timescape and b) the facebook app, which asks initially if you want to sync your fb contacts to the phone. These are shown as facebook ([email protected]) in the phonebook.
Defaulting to the fb name is super annoying. What's even more odd is that for some friends, it does default, for others, your gmail contact name is "the stronger one". What gives?
Does anyone has a solution for the problem with the names (forced Facebook names)? Or is it a bug, too?
Like most of the users here, I love the 2.1 update, and HATE the names-problem. Really really HATE IT.
So far, all I've been able to deduct is that the shown name is decided alphabetically. The name that's further down in the alphabet will be shown. So, if your contact name is aJhon, the facebook name is bJhon, twitter is zJhon, the shown name would be zJhon.
Hope someone finds a solution or SE releases a patch or something.

Horrible contacts app - solutions

So I've had this phone less than 24 hours and I want to get rid of it.
I have all my contacts in gmail and organized. Work, Businesses, Personal, etc.
The only way I can see my all gmail contacts is if I go under "All contacts". (But thats cluttered with every auto added email address for the past years)..
And select show only contacts with phone numbers. All I get is my own contact. WTF!
Now that I'm searching for it, tons of people are having this issue with no real solution..
yes, i hate this

If this is your only issue with the Atrix, I am sure there will be a solution somewhere for it, and you will find that it is an amazing piece of hardware, and you will reap the benefits.
Where have you looked for solutions so far?
I've tried just about every contact manager on the market with no luck..
I'd settle for seeing all my contacts with out grouping for now but can't even figure that out.
Theres a few other unrelated things bugging me.. I hate the sms iphone like bubbles, can't see how to disable them asides from a 3rd party app.
usb charging doesn't seem to work.
And I already had top do a battery pull to get the phone to wake once.
I miss CM lol

Below is a link to the contacts manager I use. 'Go Launcher EX Contacts' it works great for me, you can create as many categories as you want and name them whatever you what. Give it a try see what you think.
com.jbapps.contact.apk
Yea, I would also suggest trying out the GO Contacts app.
The only thing I don't like so far is that the GO wallpaper team steals code from freeware developers and tries to make money off of it :\
log into Gmail. go to your contacts. Delete all the entries under "other contacts" as that is where it stores all the email addresses you've sent email to over the past years, that aren't an actual contact that you've entered yourself.
Now go to Gmail settings. General Tab. In the option "Create contacts for auto-complete:", select the "I'll add contacts myself" radio button. That should solve your problem. or atleast some of them

I actually tried that this morning, didn't change anything when displaying only contacts with phone number.. I'm still the only contact it shows.
But alas I figured out what this stupid thing was doing!
It only shows google contacts that are in the "My Contacts" group. All of my contacts only belong to one group (Work, Personal, Etc). Putting them all in my contacts fixes the default contacts app.
But I think I'm going to stick with GoContacts for now..
Thanks guys!

Litening 2.2 Issues

does anyone have issues with messaging when adding a recipient the names are showing double? So basically seeing 2 contacts for everyone on my list.
Not sure what you mean - but maybe its caused by having facebook app installed and also a facebook account set up in Accounts in settings. I you have booth the Samsung and the official facebook then you might see things double.
It could also be caused by having both contacts in Gmail/Google and Facebook/Samsung/Exchange etc.
Try and explain the problem a bit more.
in 1.5, i didnt have this issue. I had facebook and gmail accounts under 'Accounts and sync'.
Try this.
Go to Messaging icon -> Click on the top right envelope -> Click on the top right portrait icon
This will now show you a list in your contacts. My list is coming up with 2 of everyone
In my contacts icon, i only see 1 entry for each person. So i am not sure what is going on
edit: Deleted all my contacts from my contact icons. Went to messaging icon and i see only 1 of all my contacts. So does this mean its reading my sim card? I cant find any settings to disable it and read phone only
ye i got the same problem..also...when i go into the application menu and rotate my phone horizontally the icons all cluster into one and it only clears up once i touch the screen..is it just me?
maybe i should rename this to litening 2.2 issues to help give feedback to litepro and help others with same issues.
I even put back 1.5 MMS.apk but it still reads everything twice

[LwW] Facebook inside Xperia wont work

ok so i got this phone around 20 days back. i set up the fb account (both in Android app for fb and facebook inside Xperia), and have synced the contacts. but i dont see my contacts being "synced" in real sense. i mean, when i see my contacts, they are just normal contacts, without pictures without the status updates and profile link. as if the FiX is not even working.
ok i know there are apps that allow me to sync pictures from fb and merge them with my contacts, but shouldnt the default well known Facebook inside Xperia work on its own?
am i doing something wrong here?

And you will see both Facebook and phone contacts. Then you can put together these contacts, which are the same. The system doesn't place FB and contacts together, even if the name is the same(I think).
i sorted out the issue using the app called facebook contact sync!
Check out performance assistant app, turn on facebook inside xperia
Note : it may decrease phone performance, I suggest you to turn off features you don't want, such as ANT+...

I'm experiencing the same issue on my Mini. I had never used Facebook for Xperia, but reading this thread I decided to give it a try. And here are my results:
The first screen shows a phone contact which has been synchronized with both Facebook for Android and Facebook for Xperia. As you can see, I have his phone number (Cellulare) and the only thing I managed to sync is his birthday (Data di nascita).
The second screen shows a contact I don't have in my phone. It's been synchronized with both Facebook for Android and Facebook for Xperia, and all I can see is his Name, his birthday and that he's married. Interesting.
The third screen shows a contact I don't have on my phone. It's been synchronized with both Facebook for Xperia and Skype. As you can see, his personal picture (from Skype) is correctly shown, together with informations from both Skype and Facebook.
Other synchronizations (calendar and photo albums through Facebook for Xperia) work just fine. Contacts seem to be bugged.
I thought it could depend on the fact I had frozen Timescape and its extensions. I tried and unfroze everything, but nothing changed.
I don't think it's because I'm using exDialer&Contacts as a system app (switched with Titanium Backup), could it be?
your phone doesnt simply sync the contacts that are only in your phonebook (ie with a number). it brings in all the contacts from whatever accounts you've setup for sync. so its actually showing you all the contacts, phone contacts (with number), gmail contacts, fb contacts and skype, plus any other service that you would setup to sync.
in contacts, touch menu and select filter, choose the account you want to see contacts from. and you're done

Ok i got today similar problem. I sit for it for half hour and problem solved. Just make sure you have activated
1. menu --> performance assistant --> facebook inside xperia
2. in settings --> xperia --> facebook inside xperia
then for sure deleted all facebook acconunts in settings --> accounts and sync and manually add account FACEBOOK INSIDE XPERIA
if is all right you must see in this account three items (albums in gallery, calender, contacts)
Now just sync it and after few momments check contacts list.
If you help this pleas write and hit thanks button

Timescape has nothing to do with Facebook in Xperia.
I don't see a problem there. Only the info, that you can see on the person's profile, is available on your phone. In some cases, if the name matches fully(first and last name set properly), then contacts are placed together, if not then 2 separate contacts.

There are not separate contacts. The contacts are automatically merged, and you can see it from the first picture. A phone contact (I only have his phone number) is merged with the information from Facebook (his birthday) but I can't see his personal picture or his facebook posts.
But maybe this is just how it should work. I don't know. I was sure that Facebook for Xperia would have synchronized Pictures and Facebook status as well.

The pictures should be synchronized, I got that feature on gingerbread, status only if you had set it to do it(Contacts-Settings, I think).
I didn't have chance to test it on ICS.
Contacts are only merged if first and last name match. On my phone, it didn't happen, as importing contacts from another phone resulted in whole name in Last name section.

Contacts Not Defaulting to Google - Also Contact Icon Issue

I'm trying to set the default contact type action when adding a new contact so it's saved to "Google" instead of "Phone" but cant for the life of me figure it out. It seems so basic and was easy on my Galaxys.
Anyway, I discovered that the phone defaults to saving people locally which doesn't sync with my Google account. I can change the "contact type" (when adding a new person) to "Google" and thats works but I was hoping to make that the default account type. Also, I noticed that once you save a contact under the account type "People", there is no way to go back and edit the contact to change that.
Also (and unrelated) I noticed a really strange issue...sometimes when I boot my phone, the "Contacts" icon in the app drawer changes to a "People" icon. It works just fine and is the same application underneath. If I reboot my phone, It will change back. I will post some screen shots below if anyone is interested. Possibly its a little bug..
Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this..
* If it matters, I'm running stock 4.4.2 Unlocked/Rooted/S-On
Icon
Thought I would post the screenshots anyway.
In the first, the Contact icon is fine, then after a reboot, it's gone and becomes the icon becomes "People"....after another reboot, it's back to Contacts.
Kinda crazy...
I have the same issue with not being able to save contacts to Google by default and its really annoying. I tried contacting HTC support about it but if course they were no help. Hopefully it'll get rectified in a future update

In the People app, go to Settings>Open account settings. Is Google under the options, and is "Auto Sync" turning on? If you tap Google, does the Sync status seem okay? You might try to remove the Google account, and re-add it.
"People" is the name that HTC uses for this app on all its phones. "Contacts" is what Google uses, and on most other devices (like Samsung). I guess its just one of those silly things that HTC made different "just to be different". Its actually odd that "Contacts" shows up at all (then changes to "People"), and I've never seen that.
Since you are rooted, you didn't happen to migrate your contact info or anything related (call history, SMS, etc.) from another device?
You might try to navigate to Contacts (yes, ironically the app is still called "Contacts" even though HTC like to call it "People") in Titatium Backup and see if wiping add data helps.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
No, my contacts all reside on google and when I setup the phone and sign in, it just migrates them on to the phone. Auto sync is turned on and Google syncs just fine.
The issue seems to be that when adding a new contact from the phone, it defaults the "contact type" (the next selection after adding the name at the top of the screen) to "phone" which, of course, stores the contact locally. Because of that, the contact never syncs with "Google. To correct this, you have to change "Phone" to"Google". That saves it to my Google account and all is fine. What I was trying to do was make that Google selection the default when adding a new conact.
As far as the icon issue, it's just weird. I called a couple buddys to ask what they have and they all have "contacts" on thier M8's ..must be a smaill bug
I don't think people realize just how big of an issue this is... I just sorted the view of my contacts so I only see the "locally" stored contacts... There's dozens of contacts I will lose if I have to reformat... I can't believe I can't edit these contacts so Google will sync them. Wtf?

In the People app, go to Settings>Manage contacts>Merge contacts, and see if you can merge then to Google.
Is this on 1.54 or 1.58 software version?

I tried that before hoping it would be the solution however that simply chooses which contacts to display on the screen.
Thanks for taking the time to post your idea though.
Solved!!
This was frustrating me also...
you can solve the problem by going into phonebook via the dialler app on your home-screen then swiping over to people and at the top left hand corner under 'phonebook you can choose which contacts are available...
by only choosing your google account now when ever you add contacts the default should be google and not your phone...
if you need to copy contacts from phone to your google account you can do tat by pressing the options tab (3 buttons top right), manage contacts, copy contacts. Solved!!!
Didn't work for me :/
I tried this solution and unfortunately even when I de-select the 'phone' option from the phonebook, the M8 still defaults to putting new contacts in the phone database. Very strange.... anyone else seeing this? Is there a replacement people/contacts app that can solve this issue? It's really inconvenient.
Thanks!

When adding a new contact, HTC automatically uses the last folder chosen as defualt for next ones being added. Hence if you choose google once while creating a new contact and save it, that (google) will become your defualt folder for future contacts too.
So. At post 13, didn't work for me, first time I would have fixed the problem naturally.
I have an m7 with the same issue. Tried everything started here and nothing works.
I thought android was supposed to be the cool OS that lets you customize at will.
Oh well.
Did this ever get figured out? It is driving me crazy!
Me facing it too. Does anyone solved this problem? Please let me know
