How to start fresh with 2.1? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How would I go about wiping my x10 completely and then install 2.1?
And do you guys recommend the generic or nordic 2.1?
I'm using 2.1 now, but it is so so slow. I'm thinking that a fresh install might help.

The update will wipe it completely anyway if you choose to, but what I would do is wipe you're SD card before running the flash tool.

Doesn't really matter imo.

Thanks. Do you find your phone slow since you updated to 2.1? And what procedure did you use?

No, I've found a vast improvement. Sure it's a little buggy but nothing to complain about. I used the Nordic but you might as well use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=825675

Cool. So what did you do with all your photo's and videos? Did you back them up and them copy them back on SD card?

Oh... you said you noticed a vast improvement when you upgraded to 2.1, but did you start fresh, wiping all data and formatting the SD card?

While trying to fix my message problem (stuck in sending) on my Custom ROM TW 007 on Xperia X10, I have managed to completely screw my phone. Now, I have the following issues
1. Wifi doesnt work.

4. Busybox wont install. (problem with Core Utilities)
5. xRecovery wont install.
and obviously Messaging wont work.
I would greatly appreciate if experts can help me out here since I have been stuck for couple of days now with it. Otherwise I be buying another phone soon and sadly I may have to switch from Android to another platform
try reflashing firmware ?????
I am no expert, but i would suggest you to try and flash stock.

How do I flash Stock Firmware? I dont have it? Is there a link for it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Thanks. Will update with results
I somehow deleted last Post from someone who sent a link to the Stock Firmware. Many thanks. My phone is back.
I want to flash Custom ROM again as the stock is too slow.
I went it Xrecovery and Unzipped the Wolf_GB_2.3. It was successful but nothing happened. I am currently on 2.3.3. Is that the issue?

Place it on the sd card and install it in xrecovery.
Make sure you have the correct version of the rom...i imagine you need one the locked bootloader version

Not quite, with an unlocked bootloader it is, speak to DooMLoRD about it
But with a locked bootloader you are correct, a repair with pccompanion will always sort out the phone

He bricked it in a process most of us are not even able to comprehend,
let alone perform, so for the average user, X10 is pretty much unbreakable.

Which is what I meant, but it is incorrect to say it is impossible to brick it, just that it is extremely unlikely that mortals like us will ever do anything that could brick it..
try disconnecting the cord while the bootloader unlock is "in progress". you'll pretty well realise that lesser mortals can brick this phone too.

Not really, he was trying to find a way to flash kernels into boot partition from OS/recovery and after insmodding a module, device got stuck and died after unplugging,
but probably bootloader got corrupted during the insmod and not the unplug.
Anyway, that doesn't happen every day!
And yes, it's a golder rule: don't unplug it!

one suggestion. don't use apps2sd. there's no reason when you have gigs of space available for apps... it just slows down your phone..
just reboot and try installing again. if it doesn't work factory reset. oh and remove apps2sd that could cause it possibly.

You have created many new threads as of late asking many questions, all about rocko rom and most of them basic and/or vague. Have you ever thought the of ya know, trying a different rom? Thats the point of flashing roms, finding one that fits you and your phone. These forums are far from ignored, most here just offer help to people that help themselves. If you dont want to put the work in to learn how to troubleshoot simple problems, then perhaps you shouldnt be flashing. And you sure as hell shouldnt be bashing the people who take the time to offer you advice. Have fun with your gs3.
Also, these types of questions are meant for the Q&A section.

Mof 2.3.5ish rom, imperium initiative rom. Do you mean that youve taken the ota 2.3.5 update that permalocks you or your bootloader is just still locked? If its the latter, you can try out those roms. Im personally running mof and really enjoy it. But imperium was my favorite and by far most stable rom we had imo, and it has a locked version.

Bought the phone with 2.3.5 on it, and immediately started flashing stuff. So yes, my bootloader is locked and I can not use pudding.
And, thats great theres a locked version of imperium, but it is not compatible with Electrifys, unfortunately.

Mof his getting ready (if he hasnt already) to release a version of his rom for the 2.3.5 permalocked people. But regarding your problem, havnt been on bootstrap recovery in quite a while but im pretty sure you can still wipe cache, dalvik, and fix permissions. If you havnt already done that i would bet it would fix the majority of your problems with rocko.

Yeah, i've been waiting for mof to. He tried the other week and it didn't work:/
As for my problems with rocko, I just did a factory reset rather than SBFing and then re-flashed rocko, and sure enough most of my problems went away.
Take it easy man, later!

help with twrp

is there any reason to install twrp 2.2.1 instead of just remaining with twrp 2.1.8? will all of the roms available install just the same with 2.1.8? i dont know if its really necessary to upgrade as i have seen some people are having issues with twrp 2.2.1. thx
nope. you can stay on it. shouldn't cause you any harm. but what were the problems? ive been running 2.2.1 since it dropped and its been fine

nothing wrong with 2.1.8. i just see where some of these new roms prefer that we be on twrp 2.2.1. im getting ready to upgrade using goomanager. is that safe to do since your a senior member? do u have any experience with that. and will all my backups still remain and be useable? i want to make sure i have my original backup which is after the ota update

i installed 2.2.1 with goo manager. how do i wipe my battery stats? its missing now. and thanks for your help if you can and if not thanks anyhow
If you want to try some of the newer roms you should upgrade. I know people that weren't on 2.2.1 and installed the new Venom rom had a lot of install problems with the aroma installer. The new twrp has a lot of new features it is worth upgrading.

You don't really have to wipe them since they get wiped with everything else when you wipe before a rom flash. If you want to at any point while using a rom there is an app in the market that will wipe them. When I find the name ill put it in this post. Gimme a sec
Edit: the app is called "battery calibration" just download it and when you open it grant it super user permissions and then follow the instructions. Really easy

Stock Rogers ICS odin rom?

Hello everyone.
I searched but couldn't find the stock Rogers ICS release. My phone is rooted and running on GB with all the bloatware removed using TB. I downloaded the software update like before but the phone rebooted after and instead of being on ICS, simply stated that the update had failed and to try another method. I'm thinking it might be because of CWM since when it rebooted, the phone went into CWM and not straight into the OS.
Does anyone have the software update as a download so that I can push it to my phone? I don't want to deal with any custom roms since none of them have worked 100% for me and especially due to tethering workaround, which I found troublesome as I tether a lot.
Thank you.

[Q] ROM or kernel, really cleaned the previous version?

I'm a little confused with the updates of ROM's and kernel's.
I'm trying alternatives to CM10, both full ROM or kernel. In almost all the tests I have done, when I finally go back to the original CM10 and CM10 kernel, I always drag some feature of the kernel or the ROM, I just try.
Does this mean that when you install a kernel or ROM, with its wipe data, etc ... there remains something of the older version?
There is a cleaner way of install?
I have readed many threads, but I have found many ways to do it. :silly:
Nobody have a opinion about this?
And if so... it s probably few MB of some left data, don t know for sure.

I think you missed my point. I do not mind a little MB deal more. The bad thing is that sometimes when you install a new ROM, there are some errors from the previous ROM. As if left 'remains' of it.
A 1TB microSD card won't solve the problem.
