All data on the phone is, SD card is fine, so pics and videos should be fine.
I've used Titanium for the apps, which in most cases also restores the settings too.
I use google sync, so Contacts are synced as soon as I add my google account to the phone (not sure how the other sync methods work for contact)
Finally, for SMSs I used the SE backup and restore app, and just chose SMS. there is an option for apps on there too, but I haven't used it.
Then, once 2.1 is installed, root, install busybox then use titanium to restore apps (don't restore system settings, as that caused me an issue with WiFi, app setting are fine though), then you will have all of your apps back, then open SE's backup and restore and choose to restore the backup you made earlier for texts
Contacts were auto for me, and photos and other SD contents will need no restoring at all, just view!

Copy and paste for my media files and SD card, and I used gmail and MyPhoneExplorer for my contacts. Titanium should do your apps and settings for them, but being a whole OS I just started from scratch with them.

[Q] Restoring sms/mms, call logs & contacts but no system app!!!

I just flashed Bionix V over Nero v5. Per instruction from teamwhiskey/sombionix, I only restored third party applications and not system apps. I just realized some of my contacts are missing along with all of the mms, sms and call logs. How can I restore just the missing contacts. Plus How can I restore my mms/sms and call logs. Before flashing, I had backed up 'all user apps + all system data' so I know everything is backed up in titanium backup. What files am I looking for to restore these?
Thanks.
You have to restore system apps to get the mms / sms back. As for the contacts, do you not have them setup on your gmail account or are they on your sim? Putting them in gmail would be the best thing from now on.

You should be able to restore all of your contacts by clicking to restore "[CONTACTS/CALLS] Contacts Storage" in Titanium Backup. It's one of the green items on your list. After they've been restored, reboot your phone.
That said, I tried doing the same thing and a bunch of my phone-saved numbers were still not restored. It's possible that I re-backed up a bunch of apps and data (including contacts info) on TB before the system had a chance to fully restore everything, therefore deleting a bunch of my contacts when I reflashed Bionix V to fix another mistake I made (what can I say, it was my first time rooting my phone and flashing a ROM), so it was all probably my own fault. Fortunately, I had almost all of my contact information on my old G1 still, so I just saved all of that to Gmail and it automatically synced w/ the Contacts on my Vibrant.
Otherwise, I would have had to use Odin or Heimdall to bring my phone back to stock so that I could restore the nandroid backup from when my phone still had the info. Or, I could have tried to simply flash a JI6 kernel, but with that came the risk of a Android 2.1 kernel severely clashing with a 2.2 system. In your case, it seems like you should be able to reflash Nero v5, restore a nandroid backup from that system, and save all of your contacts the proper way.
After learning the hard way, I will concur with others who suggest saving all of your contacts to Gmail in the future. Or, you can back up your contacts in your phone by choosing to "export" them to your external sd card in the Contacts menu.
I believe that you can retrieve contact info saved to your SIM card by choosing to "import" them in the Contacts menu, as well.
Best of luck!

[Q] How to switch to a different ROM while restoring all apps and messages

Hi,
I have a question which might seem too stupid or trivial.
I am currently running CM 7.1.0 ROM on my Legend. I would like to flash ogo2's Gingerbread ROM while restoring all apps and messages/contacts.
Can somebody help me with the procedure of backing up apps and messages, then flashing the new ROM, then restoring all apps/messages
I have no idea for messages since it doesn't care for me.
If you are not going to format/clean your SD card Titanium backup can be helpful for saving applications with data.
The only app you will need to install is Titanium and it restore applications+appsdata for you after flashing.
Make a backup/restore test drive before proceed with flashing.
For keeping your messages there's some apps in market that might help you, haven't tried them though.

Hi, when i did my root and flashed brand new rom, I used 3 things, I used visionary+ temp root then used Titanium Back for all my apps, I used Go SMS Pro to backup all my sms/mms, and for contacts, I used the built in export contacts to .vcf file the good thing about this is if your contacts are stored on phone (not sim) and you have more than one contact for each name + contact pictures associated they fully restore (so long as you leave the pictures alone on SDcard. If you use only sim for contacts, I have found that you can have problems, only storing the default cantact number, no picture association after backup and restore (lost a whole heap of contacts that way).
How ever, since gaining a lot more knowledge, apparantly you can actually use Titanium to backup your contacts and sms/mms as well as your apps using the "backup system data" from the batch mode, although I haven't tried this yet, I cannot confirm that it works.
for contacts you can export them to sd card, as for the sms and other apps use Titanium Backup

[Q] Backup Linked Contacts

Hi. My contacts are all from gmail contacts, usually linked with Facebook and Twitter accounts. How do I backup these linkage so that I don't need to go link them again after a flash?
if they are gmail link connects, you should have to do any think as the links are not on your phone, but if you have them saved on the phone or sim card, you have to linkl them again as back up software does not always work across different levels of firmware.
use titanium backup before flashing and backup -> [CONTACTS/CALLS] Contacts storage.
its under backup system data..
restore back after flashing
Thanks. It works

Unfortunately, android.process.acore has stopped working - how can I fix this?

Hey XDA,
I installed a ROM in my GS2, restored using Titanium, got this error, looked for a solution, cleared contacts data, lost all my contacts (can't fix it) - installed another ROM, restored using Titanium, got same error.
It has become QUITE annoying since I can only use the phone until this message pops up and I have to clear data again.
I want a permanent solution to this.
Thanks!
Don't restore data on system apps when you do a restore.
In fact, unless the new rom doesn't have a system app that you really, absolutely must have from your previous rom, don't restore system apps at all.
When I first started using Miui I had this problem the first few days & I discovered by trial & error (and later read) that is good practice and gets rid of most of those problems.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Would I only restore apps and games? Not contacts? How would I get my contacts back? Would I just have to ask everyone again for their number!? D:
Restore contacts from your backup . Restore only apps from Titanium if no problem then you can start to restore apps and data one by one to find the culprit .
Easier if you had a recent nandroid backup .
jje
Yeah restore your apps, games & so on, you can usually restore the app/game data as well, but occasionally you'll get FC's if you do. If so, fix is the same, restore app only/not data.
You should normally be right to restore your contacts. If you find that's also causing you FC's, you can get an app like App Extractor from the Market which enables you to restore your contacts/SMS's from a Nandroid/CW backup. There are also lots of other apps on the Market which enable you to backup/restore your contacts/SMS's/call logs/etc.

i have found the solution.
the problem is when you restore some of the apps AND data, which have a "sync" contact function will screw up the "sync" function.
All you have to do is to restore ONLY App for those apps (which "sync" contacts, for example, Hotmail or Whatsapp), then restore apps and data for the rest of the apps thru Tibu.
mine is perfectly fine now after a few trial and errors.
more info about it
I've used ROM Toolbox to backup and then restore contacts and start having these problem.
The problem, effectively seems to be a sync problem, but in my case not with fb but with gmail itself, so what I did:
1. turn off auto sync
2. remove all accounts (gmail, fb, skype). For skype you have to remove the app all thogheter.
3. Go Applications > and clear data and cache for contacts, contacts storage (any of them). Your contacts will not go away, b/c you already have them in gmail.
4. Restore contacts with Titanium backup (application only, no data).
5. reboot
6. you may still have the problem once yet.
7. create the gmail account again and allow to sync. once finish, create the other accounts (fb, skype, whatever).
Issue went away.
Hope this helps
unfortunately the process android process acore has stopped

I think ROM Toolbox needs to fix up there Bugs!!!
Last Night
I used ROM Toolbox but only for changing settings and I ended up with the same error on my Desire HD, Testing Your theory now!
Cheers! Thanks Champ!
just some hints from developer point view, if any of the 3rd party application used the system id as application id, once the application fc for any reason, you will see the error, so, I would suggest you install apps that you totally trust that are stable, then try other apps later

I'm experiencing this problem too. It starts after a while and affects everything and anything e.g. messaging, whatsapp, talk, drive you name it.
This problem started ever since I update to resurrection 2.6 could it possibly be because the update was in my phone and not on the sdcard?

Hey, the problem is from the sdcard and not from your phone, I've experienced it and even flashing back to stock didn't solve it the only thing that did is clearing out the cache from contacts and contacts storage from application manager in the settings of the phone .

[Q] Specific questions about Titanium Backup

I already checked other threads about this topic, but I have more specific stuff to ask about backup of user apps + system data, since I'm doing the GB>ICS update with downgrade+fullwipe+root:
- won't the restore of system data bring back old gingerbread files/broken stuff (I had a problem with video recording, I don't want to bring it with me)?
- are the phone contacts part of the "system data"? Can I just backup those and not the rest of data, since I don't care at all about sms or phone settings in general?
- do i lose photos and videos in the SD card if i wipe-flash a new rom?
- can I choose which user apps to backup? I don't really need to backup 'em all
- after the full wipe, all i have to do is redownload TB, look for the backup in the SD card and restore it?
Maybe there was more, if i remember I'll post it here =)
- do i lose photos and videos in the SD card if i wipe-flash a new rom?
Nope
- can I choose which user apps to backup? I don't really need to backup 'em all
Create a label. Its under Filter options.
- after the full wipe, all i have to do is redownload TB, look for the backup in the SD card and restore it?
Yes. After you install TB the backups are already listed there with a Smiley face

Hey buddy...
* for contact- you should backup ur contact to sdcard or ur gmail account.
* in full wipe, all contents like photos. And videos or others are not deleted.
* you can backup ur user apps and data using titanium backup and get back after flashing new rom through it do don't worry about user apps.
* yaa only redownload TB from play store and get back ur all user apps through it.
Cheers...
Sorry for bad english...

but you shouldnt backup apps from gingerbread and try to restore them under ics
i heard with some apps this will bring you force closes
Ok then, let's say I backup contacts directly on the Gmail account, as for the apps, does the backup save the whole app or just the data/savings? I don't mind reinstalling all the apps since Gmail keeps them saved on my account, I just don't want to lose some settings and games' savings, what should I choose in the end?
Edit: and backing up apps moved to SDcard, does it bring them back automatically to SD when you restore? Or should I move to phone every app I want to backup?

titanium will do this job
if you want to backup it will ask u wether u want to backup only the data or the whole app
if u restore it will ask this again
Great! So if I backup the app data only, then reinstall the app on ICS and restore its data, I shouldn't encounter the compatibility problems you mentioned, right?
Exactly
I did it several Times this way and all went great
