Eugene has produced a new ROM. I didn't format the title because it is not my ROM to post, but I wanted to share the link for people in the meantime.

You should still format the title properly, just give credit to Eugene...

He posted it late last night on twitter
Has anyone flashed this rom? I'm not too interested in ports on my Slide, but I'd like to hear the thoughts of people who have installed this.
Personally, I'm sticking with SlideM until CM5/6 arrives for the Slide.
i flashed it.....It stalls, big time for me...and before anyone goes"did you wipe(lol)" yes I did...ohh and did the mount system to but to no avail still stalls and freezes!
But it is fast but just freezes too much...went back to slide m
on another note, which do you guys like better SlideM or the Legend rom?
Did you run your log cat to see that it was indeed frozen
Remember Custom ROMS can take up to 15 minutes to flash in some cases, although on this phone I dont think it will ever be that high.
I thought mine was frozen but it turned out it just needed 7 minutes or so to load.
The logcat looked plenty busy
Thanks to kingofyo1 for teaching me how to check if the phone actually is frozen
anyways ill be sticking to the SLIDEM rom till someone builds a good kernal to overclock or a froyo rom or CM rom.
Mine kept freezing too .. But I didn't check my logcat..
Been loving legend... Except for no genius button...
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
well i flashed it, and im at work, so cant logcat.. and i tried installing setcpu, because the kernel looked slightly different, i was thinking he may have implemented the OC kernel(hopes and dreams ) and i got a lock. restarted and then tried setcpu again, and locks still there >.< so i am guessing either superuser is messed up or something, will try a different root program and see if possibly its the program or the superuser.. overall its a good looking rom, check back on my slide bible for my scores if interested
I just clocked it. 3 minutes 14 seconds
After about 51 seconds you will get the little heropetit image. than an HTC for the remaining time.
Just relax and go away from the phone for a few minutes. I also filmed this.
So yea....i used it like i said...and im already back on using SlideM
BTW i changed a tire while this was loading and was still stuck after multiple boots.
OMFG 3.8 LINPACK!!! and second time is 3.3, 3rd is 3.5 4th is 4!!! 5th -8 is 4.1
can you say quickest slide rom to date??

working on it... no such luck yet, i'll post if i can get it working :/
newest ver of setcpu makes device unresponsive >.< never get a su request either on it >.>
Eugene has been working on a kernal to let us overclock. I saw some pics from him posted some where last night.
the superuser.apk is out of whack.. replacing it now and we will see what happens guys. wish me luck? lol
EDIT: cant seem to drop the stock su, dont have adb at this time with me so i cant do it that way either.. anyone else having troubles with su perms?
Tried it again and it boots.....but then just freezes.....i tried to uninstall superuser and wouldnt but installed setcpu.apk and opened her up and now my phone is stuck/frozen/locked up.....
Will be staying on SlideM till these issues are resolved
my biggest issue is the trackpad is messed up,
up=right
down=left
left=up
right=down
there are also some graphical issues that aren't incredibly bothersome, but stuff is just a little offcenter in landscape
if someone is a member of the community where eugene's original post is hosted, would you mind copying the images he attached over here?
Ok, I was thinking about maybe using that one click root app I found on the market but i need to know how safe is it? and is there a fully awesomely working version of Froyo out there or even gingerbread I can use and if so how do I install it?
And when the official froyo update comes out will my phone still be able to revive the over the air update?
Using the OCLF/Root was completely safe and easy, for me at least.
No issues at all doing it, it went very smooth with no issues at all.
Yes -- you can still receive OTA updates once you've rooted.
Ian
def no gingerbread out there for you to run
uhmmm i think if you arent even sure how to root, maybe you shouldnt get yourself into a beta rom.

Safe as in what? Secure wise or bricking your device? The Vibrant is easy to root but secure wise you need to be careful since your device will be "open" to any program getting root access.
I see people use the click app to root their phones. Check it out on YouTube that's where I found the info. Personally I am not going to root my cuz I don't want to deal with the headaches. Yes I have root one android phone before & was successful. I enjoy putting different roms but when I flash CM6 one his first updates on that then later on couldn't change the rom. The reason cuz I had a low memory I was told on the phone internally. So I am taking no chances with phone.

Too much work. Easier to add ps.
I be posting this from my wicked awesome vibrant!
Before Rooting....
1) learn how to use the keyboard
2) find out what Froyo and the consequences of installing a beta are
3) No, if you install Froyo probably you won't be able to get the OTA update when available and, you may not be able to roll down if you want to.
I would stay out of it if i was you
not worthy to just root to flash the leaked Froyo... You only get the 'skin' of Froyo.. there is no JIT and GPS is not working
I would not root, because judging by you, you dont know much about android.
Few devices have froyo,
No devices have gingerbread.
If you think gingerbread, or even froyo is out then chances are you dont know how to use root features.

I understand what your saying, and believe me I know a lot about android and actually a little bit about rooting but I am super paranoid about bricking my phone for two reasons:
I love my phone.
I had to pay full price for it.
What I don't understand that much is about different roms and whatnot. As for the Gingerbread thing I was kidding, but I was serious about the Froyo thing...but after reading this thread i have decided that if I do ever root with the one click root app it will only me to install simple things like lag fix, adfree, etc. Thank you for your help.
To do it again, I would not root mine. It has been less stable since I rooted it. Crashes to a black screen that says "user fault not kernel panic" and "upload mode". This is using a simple one-click root. So I advise against it.
What you'd find, should a problem occur, is that there is no going back. Folks recommend install this patch and that patch, and deeper down the rabbit hole (further away from stock) you go.

I just get sick of messing with it sometimes, and just want it to work.
VERIZON SAMSUNG FASCINATE ONLY
Lately there has been an influx of people breaking their phones with voodoo.
Common reasons:
1. Downloading voodoo for the wrong phone.
2. Installing voodoo5 on top of voodoo4.
3. Running odin restore files on the above scenarios.
4. Wrong phones flashing OUR voodoo.
Do yourself a favor. Understand voodoo, and understand it well before even considering flashing it. Become proficient with adb, read all the documentation.
Ask questions. Become the voodoo/adb/rom/root/flashing/android expert BEFORE flashing. Then ask for advice once more.
Do not flash voodoo because you think its some godsend. It is not. It is a very specific and advanced tool to fix performance hangups on SGS phones under one very specific circumstance: Write operations. Due to the buggy RFS filesystem, write speeds are very poor. The phone ends up waiting for write operations to complete, causing lag, slight hangs, and slowdowns. Voodoo addresses some (but not all) of this. Some of the issue also stems from the fact that Movinand (our flash storage) makes the write operations slow.
So, does this mean voodoo will zooom zoom?
Depends on the type of user you are.
1. If you don't notice the lag, do not install voodoo.
2. If you do not perform heavy write operations (rss readers, browsing, news readers, heavy duty email, etc), voodoo is NOT FOR YOU.
3. If you don't know if you need it, YOU DO NOT.
I type this as a request, and plea for folks to pay attention and be careful with what they are doing. These phones are brickable, under the right circumstances, unless you have very specialized tools. I do not have all of these tools, and neither do you. Stop tempting fate!
Finally, a word of advice.
If you want to remove voodoo4:
DO NOT ODIN OVER IT UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER OPTION.
Check my uninstall thread, or better yet, disable it like you are supposed to and then remove it. Read the voodoo threads for more information.
If you want to upgrade to voodoo5:
DO NOT do it on top of voodoo4. Just_do_not_do_it. Do not install it on DI01 unless specifically for it. If you don't know, ASK.
If you want to remove voodoo5:
Assuming you didn't flash a kernel from a DIFFERENT phone, read the uninstall thread, and only do Odin if its your last choice. Odin is much more able to remove voodoo5, but there is still risk.
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS
Understand that flashing something advanced like this could hurt your phone and someone may not be able to fix it. Get insurance. Take out a life insurance policy. Do SOMETHING.
I have had a huge influx of dead phones being brought to me. I am starting to reach the limit of what I can fix. Be careful folks, this is not a game to play with a 500 dollar device unless you are prepared to buy a new one if you break it.
Just don't install voodoo period
Geeknik's kernels in ROM manager are safer, easier and better.
I don't have the knowledge to have said it better, but I at least understand what my limits are. I tried to say something to this end a couple of days ago on irc, actually and I think I was misunderstood.
The way people incessantly ask the same damn question on irc is rediculous. "why won't my phone work?" "How can I fix it?" For Gods' sake, if you don't know read!
Irc is a tool, for sure, but it's just 1 of many. I'd like to think that it would stay a place where you can get access to the cutting edge, without having to scroll through 1000 lines of the same questions over and over again.
Thanks Adryn.

Nice way to put it, hopefully more people will actually READ this instead of trolling!
Good point made by the OP! I put voodoo lagfix on my phone after rooting it, my phone was the first one I ever attempted to do anything like this and I was a noob...still am. I nearly bricked my phone mainly because I still didn't know what I was doing after reading many documentations and asking people. I braved it and it nearly cost me a phone. I've stayed away from voodoo since then and I really don't think I would need this since I don't do any of the stuff that was mentioned that warrants this fix.

Question...if i currently have voodoo should i even uninstall it? I put it on my phone a couple months ago and everything went fine but im not sure if i even need it. I have the" reboot button" app from a dev on these forums.that allows u to.disable/enable voodoo and i honestly can't tell a difference when i disable it.
I.just feel like i should get rid of it now to prevent ant future problems that can occur. Thoughts?

I say get rid of it if you don't need it. It's not worth it anyway. Plus, when CM comes to our phone, we'll need RFS (or stock file system in layman's terms) based on the i9000 requirements.

FWIW, I had exactly the same situation and I removed it. Not problem 1, but I just felt like if something did go wrong, I may not be able to fix it so I removed it. It seems to me it's all about RTFM. If you take your time, read the directions, read them again, make sure you're prepared with the right files, read the directions again, and then slowly flash away, you probably will be fine.
Then again, I may just have the most resilient phone Samsung ever made...

I have no doubt that someone has written about this previously, but because I don't know exactly what terms I'm searching for, I'm hoping someone can either comment or point me to another forum where this has been answered.
I have an HTC Legend running Android 2.2. Because a) it came with pre-installed software that I don't want, b) I would like to Root the device, c) it has started to lag very often (my biggest issue) and d) I'd like to upgrade to 2.3, I'd like to know how to do Full wipe, fresh install. If I were to compare this to what I'd be asking to do on a computer, it would be a full format and re-install of the operating system.
How do I this?
Thanks,
L
Before I rooted, I did one of these and it came out fine as if it was brand new:
MENU -> Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Data Reset
thanks for the quick reply, but i would expect that simply doing a factory reset would leave all that initial pre-loaded software that came with the Rom on my system. there's a bunch of stuff there that I just don't want.
also, are there any downsides to Rooting?

Because you're not rooted, the stuff that came with your ROM is probably the carrier's preference and therefore cannot be removed through a factory reset. If you just want pure stock, search up how to debrand your phone. It's safe and doesn't require root.
And root voids your warranty, about the only downside I can think of.

The lag can probably solved by enabling "USB debugging". This is a known issue in FroYo (2.2) on Legend.
Go to: Menu --> Settings --> Applications --> Development
Then, place a checkmark behind "USB debugging". This should solve most of the lags.
thanks KPN. but why would a USB debugging setting change the lag on my phone, especially considering i never connect my phone to comp?
the lag is BAD. when i close all the unnecessary running processes it stops lagging for a while and then after a bit of use starts to lag again. only solution is to do a power off/on cycle.

I'm pretty sure this will solve the lag completely.
As for you other problems, you need root access for them. Once you're rooted you can remove stock apps by using Titanium Backup, Root Explorer or ADB (I think ADB is impossible without root access, I know for sure the others need root).
Full wipe can be done using CWM, a custom recovery.
USB debugging lag-fix WORKED. now: how to root?
well, i have to admit Azaruc that that was a pretty incredible fix. the lag is gone. amazing. thank you.
i guess i will need to Root my phone. not too worried about the warranty, and hopefully i can follow one of these how-to guides despite my being very very new to all of this. the only how-to guide i've seen to root the legend so far is somewhat complicated considering it has to be downgraded to 1.3 first. not to mention i read that the legend is a particularly difficult phone to root generally.

My wife and I had Motorola XT720s and her USB borked out the other day. Our carrier replaced hers with a Vibrant and sent her on her way. Needless to say, she liked the XT720 and wants me to take the Vibrant. Since we have been on the most unholy of manufacturers (locked bootloader and no updates-yep was sold and bought on 2.1 [eclair kernal] over a year ago) I have been maintaining both our phones. We have successfully upgraded our phones to 2.2, miui, CM6/7 all with the locked bootloader and a little erseverance and a lot of adb learning.
My question is what can I do with the Vibrant and what are the better ROMs that you have? I am not affraid to get into the guts of the phone and work from that way. She just got it yesterday and when I got home, she pitched the switch to me, so this weekend, I'll root it, back up and then checkout the forums to see what is what.
Good ROMs/ Kernals (stability v experimental)?
Overclocking?
How to unlock the bootloader? I kow how on Nexus S but that is not this obviously.
Known issues with the phone in general, either software or hardware (i.e power button breaks after 2 mos. Stuff like that)
I already looked at the sticky nOOb guide for rooting. Is that update.zip the best way. Or should I use z4 or Superoneclick? I used Universal Androot before but that doesn't support Froyo kernals.
Basically, what do you like and and your opinions. The decision will be mine but I like to be informed. And I actually do like to read the threads, but we just got this yesterday and wanted to put out the feelers.
Thanks to all for your help and I look forward to the responses.
first, if your hardware locked, youre gonna havr to find the thread on how to unlock... do this FIRST.
We have several roms, they range from stable to fast and unstable
Imo, that would be froyo like bionix to cm7 respectively.. cm7 flys but its batt sucks and gps is practicallu nonexistant (not that good iin froyo tho)
There is oc up to like 1.7ghz tho my phone doesnt do more than 1.6 stable...
Also, never use kies under any circumstance and learn to use odin Well.
Thats my advice... welcome

That's great. Just the sort of thing I am looking for.
Couple of questions.
As far as OC. Is that an app or is it through a differnt kernal. I know that some kernals oc and undervolt or stock cpu and undervolt. There is an app in the market that was for Motorola that was called Milestone Overclock (I know real original right) and with that and SetCPU was able to oc my 550mhz to 1100. Is there a Vibrant app similar?
How do I tell if my hardware is locked? Once I know, then I will search the threads for that. I already saw some in here with regards to how to do it. I already got into stock recovery last night just to check and see if I could (have't put CWR in or rooted yet-will do that later on tonight). Does this mean it isn't HWL or am I completely missing the target?
Odin I assume is what RSDlite is to Motorola. You power up to bootloader, connect to PC and flash "stock" sbf files (which is basically what came in the box). I always like to have that on hand just in case. I'll google and check it out.
Thanks for the info and glad to be here.
Read the noob stockier guide. Has all the info you need. Also in the development section down load the aio vibrant toolbox. Has Odin, all the files you need. I recommend the rom bi winning V3. It has a kernel that can overclock. You need an app for that tho. I like set CPU because it has profile management for off screen, charging etc.. good luck.
To tell if your hardware locked turn your phone off and hold down both volume rockers and press the power button when you see the vibrant logo pop up, keep holding untilled it goes away then pops up again. Then let go of the power. It should boot into recovery mode. It will be black screen with blue letters that say reboot phone, reinstall packages, wipe data. It may take a few times to get the hang of it. If your unable to then your phones is hardware locked.
Okay, youce been in recov so youre not hw locked.... greggory, you only have to hold power button till you see anything oon the screen the first time... holding it after that just makes it hw reboot whivh works, but is a waste of time.
Okay OP, odin has some nice ffeatures that let you flash bootloaders and firmware both.. truthfully, you can flash ANY rewritable media in your phone except internal and external sd from.odin afaik.
Oc requires an oc kernel and an oc app... app for ocing include voltage control, which was made for samsung galaxy s, set cpu, which i dislike, cpu master, no-frills ... all of em work most of the time and i use Voltage control..
Am i forgetting tto address anything?

Ok so I've been using for a few days & I have to say the I really like this phone. Rooted and installed CWR lickity-split. Want to mess around and get more comfortable with surroundings, but have a few questions.
I dl'd Tegrak OC and am using it just fine. Any suggestions on stock kernal settings. Not applying any ROMs/Kernals for now, but setting suggestions would be helpful.
Got USB connection loop. Think I have a fix for that. Need to test some more.
Do I really have to name it update.zip to make "it" work, or can I name it anything else. Tried a few other names and they don't seem to install. Update.zip v buttermilkbiscuit.zip. why?
Does zipthemer work on this phone and do I have to name it Update.zip to make it work?
To change fonts, where do I put ttf? In settings there is a font changer, but where is the folder for that. Know it isn't /system/fonts BC that is a global changer but can't find it anywhere else. Looked in /data, /android and /sdcard. Clues?

I'll flash soon enough, just want to get my feet wet a bit. Only had phone for two days, so still picking and searching. More suggestions on ROMs/kernals, other than above?
Zipthemer is sweet. It takes all unzipped Metamorph.xmls, packages into one .zip and also creates and undo.zip too. Great themer.
There is a font changer in settings, but where is the folder to put the ttf file? /system/font is global, but looked in /data and /android and can't figure where to put it.
Just doing some house cleaning in my account and found this thread. It was my first thread in the Vibrant fora, just 5 short months ago.
Seems like so long ago. Have learned so much since then. Some have gone and some are still here, but I love this phone and the community that supports it.

Lol ... I couldn't resist! Just had to take a peak here - esp. seeing Woody's name and "New to the phone" in the title!! :what:
Woodman ...
The Vibrant fora wouldn't be the same experience without your participation, brother. Your ICS Guide thread (and our extensive GB BL discussion ... lol) originally inspired me to take the ICS leap (as well build the nerve to finally register and participate in threads here - ie. I was a long time "lurker"). Haven't looked back since.
Thanks for your efforts to ensuring all our Vibrant experiences stay ... well ... "Vibrant"!
That is funny. I just went back a re-read that thread. There is some good Q and A in there about all types of scenarios. Alot of familiar names too that have moved up in the ranks of experience as well.

Haha ... I just did the same. That thread could have been called, "Everything you wanted to know about ICS ... but weren't afraid to ask." Hilarious.
I'm not sure what wasn't discussed. We hit all the corners including some homescreen screenshots as icing on the cake. Great (re)read!
I completely forgot that some of the Zen crew had joined in ... Mostdef, bobshute, xriderx66. Lol.

This was fun to read, seeing Wood just entering the Vibrant community. The new guy on the block. Now look at you, you're one of the most recognized Vibrant users.
I remember my first post on XDA. I was messing around with Rom Manager and accidentally installed CWR. You wouldn't believe how much I was panicking, I thought I had bricked my phone! Lol, shows how much I knew.
Actually, that's why my name is "N00B_IN_N33D", because I was a noob who was in need of help. After I figured out how to Odin back to stock, which removed the (what I thought was) evil CWR I thought I wouldn't mess with my phone anymore. However s15274n talked me into flashing a custom froyo rom, Trigger, if I remember correctly. From there I blossomed in my understanding of Android and my Vibrant...
Anyhow, back on topic. It's amazing how experienced people have become here.

The Woodman deserves his due "respect" (but you have to say it the way AliG would to get the full effect). True Zen-like patience and an extremely rare dedication to help people. He's good peoples. No doubt!
Speaking of the way-back machine ... I can't even remember what Froyo was like. Do you? Then there's Eclair (yikes!). :what: I do remember the jump from Froyo to GB was pretty substantial. CM7 with those novel toggle bars and major speed boosts. Then ICS just took the phone to another level.
I remember the first time I rooted my phone, I was soooo damn nervous that I'd end up with a brick. I was just using SuperOneClick ... lol. The first time using Odin after reading all the horror stories here. The first time waiting through the VLF EXT4 conversion (seemed to take forever).
Been a fun ride.

The first time I flashed a Froyo Voodoo kernel, I was in my basement watching a west coast baseball game and it was late. The wife and kids were asleep and like you said, it took forever. Forgot to turn the volume off when I did it. So I am sitting there watching the game and I see the Bali palm tree. I think cool, whatever. I return to the game and out of nowhere, I hear this lady's voice. Thought it must have been the parabolic on TV picking up some lady in the stands. Then I hear it again. Kind of freaked me out until I realized it was LINDA. I'll tell ya, if you are ready for her, she'll freak you the f**k out.
Anyways, thanks for the kind words. I remember one of the many freak out, panic sessions I've had in the past and there was always someone who helped me out. Just feel it is my duty to give back. Now if I can solve this Encryption Error bug, I'll have come full circle. It is driving me nuts.
I remember one of my first threads back in 2009
It was a fake Hero ROM for G1
I bashed on two devs and everyone was pissed at me....then when I moved to the Vibrant I got a clean start

atleast your LINDA issue was panicked and gone.
I was in the bathroom taking a dump while the conversion went on... it freaked me out, and my mom thought i was watching porn in there -.-'
She then told this story at our family reunion... Almost died of embarrassment
