Hi guys,
I have searched the forum, but there does not seem to be too much mention of Amon Ra. Is the latest version of Amon Ra compatible with the Tbolt? I keep getting an error with CWR when trying to delete the dalvik cache. Thanks a lot!!!
Did you happen to notice the [Q] in front of your thread name? Ok ok, i kid. AmanRa is a negative atm.

I love Amon Ra too unfortunately though he does not have the Bolt and atm does not plan on making a recovery for it.
Yes CWR has issues with wiping dalvik. I manually wipe dalvik using root explorer. Just navigate to /data/dalvik-cache then hit multi-select, select all, delete then reboot your device. The first reboot after deleting dalvik will be quite long.

Dalvik wipes have been working fine for me ... Try this
1. In Rom Manager go to Menu>Settings>Check "Erase Recovery"
2. Menu> "Clear Download Cache" then Flash Recovery again.
3. ???
4. Profit

I do not have a problem with cwr wiping my dalvik cache or anything else for that matter. At first yes but when I applied pretty much this method it corrected any problems I was having.
I believe what feedhead was telling patton21 was if he was having a problem with cwr that is the method on how to fix cwr.
As far as knowing if dalvik is being cleared out is pretty easy actually. if you might have noticed when in cwr it will usually take about 10 secs to get from wipe dalvik cache to the confirm option. if you wipe a second time it will go instantly.
Also if you clear out your dalvik cache in cwr and go to root explorer one would have to boot up the phone and as you know the reason for the long boot time is the dalvik cache building so of course it won't be empty.
... or you could wipe dalvik & check using adb

Of course it won't be empty. You have to reboot into recovery and wipe it after you reflash cwm.

What error are you getting? Failure to mount SD-ext mumbojumbo?

I'm running Adrynalyne's Das BAMF 1.4 with his 4.3a Kernel. I just downloaded the Kernel Manager app and i'm curious if I should first boot into CWM, clear the dalvik cache, then reboot and install the new 4.4.2 Kernel in Kernel Manager or will Kernel Manager give me the option to clear the dalvik/cache when I click "Download & Flash Kernel"?
Any help would be appreciated.
Also, i'm not sure i'm 100% clear on the dalvik cache vs regular cache. I thought I had an understanding, but I want to be sure i'm taking all the right steps when installing new Roms and Kernels.
I see an option in CWM (under Advanced) to "Wipe Dalvik Cache." Is this the only necessary step when installing a new Rom/Kernel? The way i've been doing it is is by doing a factory reset, then clearing Dalvik Cache, then installing Rom, then installing the Kernel.
Are these the right steps? Is there anything else I should be doing?
Thank you XDA, i was only recently introduced to Android and XDA, but I'm starting to learn ADB (manually rooted my phone and have pushed files to SD Card, still learning all the possibilities). This forum is awesome.
ask him yourself. click the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11403269&postcount=7 and then click on web chat towards the bottom. adrynalyne was in the chat.
I was going to ask this same question

Well, after a little Googling, I found that if you click the "Menu" button when you're in Kernel Manager, then click "Advanced Options," you'll be given the option to have Kernel Manager clear both the caches when you flash the new Kernel.
So we should be cool using this approach. Cheers
Dalvik cache is for Google's Dalvik Virtual Machine (their way of implementing a Java-to-bytecode).
Hey guys I installed this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005845
But for some reason I dont have the Null bar under settings. Nor can I seem to find a way to open STweaks. It is installed under application settings, but I cannot find how to open it.
Any advice? I cannot post in the thread because I am a new user
Thank you in advance
I did full wipe, clear dalvik and all that. Format system, wipe cache, everything. Tried all settings. 5-6 reinstalls. Same result.
Any advice?
You can try superwipe zip.
It will wipe your internal SD for a super clean install.

I fixed it, my CWM Recovery was V5 something. Updated it, clean install, all works now
Awesome ROM btw
HI, I followed jacobmacek's instructions twice:
HOW TO INSTALL
1.Wipe Cache+Dalvik
2.Flash ROM, then flash THIS
3.Reboot and Launch Play Store to setup your account
4.Wipe Cache+Dalvik Again And You're Done!
All I get when I reboot is the screen where you see colored pieces spinning and floating . I let it sit for 5 minutes and no boot so I pulled the battery. Did I wait long enough? Am I doing something wrong?.
Santods instructions went a few steps further but I havent tried his method on this rom:
~Suggested Install Procedure~
** PLEASE READ **
____________
Use 4ext Recovery
(not really required, but highly recommended!)
Select Wipe/Format Menu Option
Wipe cache and dalvik
In the same Wipe/Format Menu: Wipe all partitions except SD
Now back in 4ext main menu: Select Tools
Select Format ext3 option
Format Cache
Format Data
Format System
Now go back to the main menu and select the rom .zip to install
Thanks for your help
You need to wipe system as well. Sounds Like your only wiping dalvik and cache. It's the first option in the wipe menu in the recovery I belive.

OK, i'LL TRY IT THAT WAY, actually Ill use Santod's install method to be safe. I hope he updates his OP so other's aren't misled. (unintentionally, of course)
Alls good now, I followed Santod's instructions on how to install. I am going to assume that is the best way for a fresh install.
I noticed that after wiping data & cache and installing a new rom using CWM recovery, my device still knows my name. I have a US SGP5 (YP-G70) and I'm running the latest BeanStalk ROM. Is there a user friendly way to COMPLETELY wipe the device of all user data prior to installing a new or updated ROM ?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/replies.
Why does it matter if it still knows your name?

Not sure that it does matter, but being a student and having the desire to learn about this stuff prompted me to ask the question. Also, I think it is counter intuitive that the device owners name and other user data (e.g. old alarm clock data) would still remain after instructing CWM to "wipe data".
The funny thing is that right after I posted this question, a newer release of BeanStalk came out, and I don't think my name was displayed upon initial boot after install, like it had been in previous versions of the ROM. I believe that data is still on the device, but just not shown.
So I think I figured out the answer...Wiping data/factory reset in CWM does NOT clear internal storage, and some user data is stored there.
So to rephrase the question, is there an easy way to clear internal storage? Is clearing internal storage an option in TWRP or PHILZ ?
In cwm, go to mounts and storage, and you can format everything from there
In TWRP, go to Wipe > Advanced Wipe, and select every everything
