Hello all,
Let me first start off by explaining my problem:
So I was rooted to begin with and was running superclean 2.92vooodoo with a oc kernel. For some reason my phone wouldnt start so I ended up resetting it to the original 2.1 eclair (Kill me!).
Ok, so I have superuser access, but can't get the right clockwork recovery in there to flash over a new rom. It says I am on rom manager 3.0 whatever, I try to install 2.5 or whatever the one that I had working and it says "Could not download, try later" The other problem is that my recovery is still blue (when I boot into recovery, instead of red.) When I try to install update.zip or anything that would help it. I get the response
"E: Failed to verify whole-file signature. E: Signature verification failed installation aborted."
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Scott
Do not use Rom Manager for anything in here. You will need to flash CWM 2. through Odin.
Yup CWM ALL will do the trick through ODIN

Thank you so much guys, I was up till 4am trying to figure this out, i had that file downloaded and thought i was trying to flash it through odin but i think since rom manager was installed it was messing things up,
Thanks a lot for the help,
Scott
SOLVED !! Never mind! I thought it was CWM Recovery updating, but it actually was Vz OTA update, which although I did not accept it, they have figured a way to force it to download and restart my phone.
I rooted my htc T-bolt a month or two ago and was able to install Clockworkmod ROM manager and Recovery programs. I have CWM Recovery v3.1.0.2, and it is trying to update to v4.0.1.5. I have not installed a new ROM, so I have the rooted stock.
I must have selected automatic update for Recovery, because in the middle of me using the phone, I get the message that the phone is turning off, then I see it reboot, and I see messages saying "finding update package..." and "opening update package..."
Eventually, the phone reboot/update hangs with the messages "E:failed to verify whole-file signature" and "E:signature verification failed" and finally "Installation aborted."
At this point, I am presented with the CWM Recovery menu. One of the choices is to reboot; however, once my phone reboots and loads everything it notices that it wants to do this update, so it shuts down the phone an reboots, and we are back where we started.
So I know I should select a different menu item, but which one? From reading about the CWM Recovery program, I could choose "install zip from sdcard" and then choose "toggle signature verification." I am concerned that may get me out of my loop, but allow me to download bad software.
Do I have any alternatives to this Morton's fork?
ooohhh, my first post on xda!
Hi all, I tried rooting my MT4G with the gfree method, after I rebooted i saw that S=off so i went into HBoot and Rebooted, The screen goes berserk and ends up on Android Recovery, I figured I'd just apply the stock recovery, PD15IMG.zip i renamed it to update.zip but I get, E: signature verification failed Installation Aborted. :/ i tried a few files. Also can't open / cache/ recovery.
Update*
Figured out how to fix it incase anyone was having the same problem, you need a fake flash recovery image, however i cannot seem to find a download for it since Clockword Mod Recovery is now on the market, please if anyone know where I can download ClockWork Mod Recover as a zip file still post.
Got that same problem.
But when I'm trying this, it doesn't install successfully and says: "Signature verification failed, installation aborted."
Hey if your still on this, I just fixed it today!! Download PD15IMG.zip, put it on SD card - hold power and down then hit HBoot, let it run and BOOM! your done.
hey i just updated to 2.3.3 firmware on my galaxy s 4g and i rooted it and today i tried to back up my phone using the clockworkmod recovery on rom manager so i can be read to download new rom and when i tried to i got into recovery mode and everything is ok for now then when it starts to load up i get an error saying:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signarure verification failed
installation aborted.
and then it wont back up and i dont know what to do, HELP
i also have the GINGERBREAD.VUVKF1 and my kernel version os 2.6.35.7-T959VUVKF1-CL270364
so plz help
I'm on the leaked 4.1.2 with stock kernel. I flashed the update.zip to get root which apparently worked as I get Superuser, Busybox, etc and if passes the root check app.
The problem is that when I boot into recovery <3e> and I get an error message in red at the bottom:
"E:Failed to seek in /cache/update.zip )invalid argument)
E:signature verification failed
Installation Aborted"
This appears even when I'm not trying to install anything, just booting into recovery. It's always there now.
This is stopping me from flashing new kernels (i.e. Philz). I also get a message on boot saying "Android is upgrading..." every time.
Anyone guess what's happening here?
Can anyone help me with this? I can't even flash a new kernel with PC Odin now. Something's wrong.
No-one got any suggestions? I'm not able to flash anything with either Odin, Mobile Odin or 3e and really want to get CWM working. Thanks.
Android upgrade is normal as it is trying to finish the installation. If you can get into recovery try doing a factory reset to get rid of the aborted installation other wise you may need the services of a jtag to repair it.
Thanks CB. Yes, I can get into 3e recovery. In all other aspects the phone is working properly. You think a factory wipe is the only way of getting rid of this 3e error?
