Hello,
I'm on Android 2.1 with my X10i.
Before the update, when I was browsing the web, I could press the menu button for an option to close the browser.
That disappeared with the 2.1 update and I can only press the middle button to return to the "desktop" (or whatever it is called) but then the browser will keep running.
Is the "close browser" option hidden somewhere, or is there another way to close the browser?
Thanks!
Yeah. That is why I don't like the new browser. I usually press menu - windows. Then the browser will load homepage. And let it be. At least it is not make more connection.
Hope it will help. But any better suggestion is welcomed

Abandon default browser (just freeze it using Titanium Backup) and use Dolphin HD

Hi guys and girls.
I need to ask this. My gf love using stock browser to watch movie. Since stock browser doesn't have the close or exit button like what browsers have, once she press the home screen, will the stock browser still run at background and auto close when say we have escape it for about a few minutes?
I do not want to see the browser still running and my data goes away for free.
Can you advise me on this? Many thanks all!

I'm pretty sure the stock browser wont use any data when it is not foreground.
Once you hit the home icon it will still be running in the background but wont be using any data. The only thing it could effect is your battery.

Thanks guys!
That is good news indeed! Thank you for your clarification
Pressing home keeps it running for a while in the state it was in. If you keep pressing the back button on your phone you will eventually be back at your homescreen and resets the browser's state.
It will still run on the background i guess and bad thing it consumes more battery
If you are still worried about it you can always hold down the centre home button until "task administrator" appears.it shows all the tasks that are open.close it from there, its perfectly safe as thats what its made for.
Hi,
I use Project V Rom.
I tried to download something on opera and switch to another app at the same time but as i see when I get back to the opera everything is stopped and its look like the browser is open start over
Can someone help me with that (how to minimize app not close it )
Thanks.
You can long press your home key to open your task manager. That should show recently used programs.
Or, go through Operas settings to see if there's an "exit on back" setting and disable it.

Using the stock ICS browser. Simple layout and all, but where is the home button? Everytime it loads it tries to load the last page it was on and all I want to do is go to my home page...but I can't find a home button to press anywhere. I have the Dolphin HD browser also...and those are the only two I have ever used.
I'd also like to know this, been bugging me for a while now.
Best bet is to use ICS Broswer+ since stock browser leaves out the home button.
In the Top Right Corner there 4 icons one of them is a House Icon that is Home

Cheers, appreciate that.
Curious to see what the vote will be.
I keep my browser in desktop mode all the time. There are very few times I need to, or want to switch it to anything else.
Same here, desktop. When I got it I figured it would be like a phone and I would want the mobile but the large screen and speed at which web sites load has me leaving it on the desktop setting (set to show pages in overview).

I mainly use desktop, but many sites that used to be fine in desktop mode on Android browser are losing some of their functionality. This is the reason I rarely use rootzwiki anymore, I'm constantly having to switch user agents.
I prefer desktop. How are you guys getting it to stay in desktop mode 24/7? I have to always hit the menu button and change it everytime I use the browser!
i use dolphinhd - so i do have the desk/android switcher loaded - so i sometimes flick between for the best experience

On Dolphin HD and ICS+ you can set it and it will stay, Dolphin even has an add on that will allow for easy toggling between desktop and Android.
There is a way in stock too by typing something in the address bar to bring up developer option. about:config or something like that. Someone posted it around here somewhere.

Only annoying annoying part about doing it this way is that you have to set it every browser session (at least that's how it used to be).
Desktop.
Boat Browser (my preference) has configurable user agents.
With the newest Dolphin Browser update there is a key feature missing.
Normally if there is a link, in my case a podcast, and if you long press the link it pops up with a menu and one of the options is to "save link" which is basically the same as right clicking on a PC and saving the target as.
For some reason the option is now gone, can anyone help me figure this crazy option out?
The latest version of Dolphin Browser Mini still has that feature.

Thanks, that's an option although I'm not too fond of the mini version. But if they don't add it back, at least I have a back up.
