Hello all,
After updating to Dj Steve's 1.2 Froyo, i very disliked some of the stock icons. I have updated signal strength icon, signal icon, wifi icon, gps icon, usb connected icon, notification background window and notification font color. Please enjoy the new icons! 2 different themes, 1 with signal icon download/upload arrows and the other without. I will also entertain any comments, suggestions, and requests.
also stay tuned for the return of my black notification bar as soon as official froyo is released.
1. Download iconupdates1.4witharrows.zip or iconupdates1.4withoutarrows.zip.
2. Extract framework-res.apk from zip to your SDCARD.
3. Backup current framework-res.apk located /system/framework.
4. Mount /system/framework as RW, and copy framework-res.apk from step 2 into the folder. You can use ADB or Root Explorer to copy over new file.
5. After file copies, phone will reboot and you will have your new icons!
To restore old framework-res.apk, simply perform same steps except copy over the backed up files from step 3.

I tried this skin, but went back to the original because I prefer the animated icons.
Got one with animated icons?
Ummm not following what you mean by animated icons?? Which icons are you referring to?

I like my 3g/hspa indicator with upload/download arrows (appeases my neurosis when my speeds are slow). Any chance to add that in?

With launcher pro you can resize the homescreen grid which is what you are seeing. I havent noticed any battery drain with launcher pro. But live wallpapers drain abit faster.

yes so far my attempts have caused an endless dell logo reboot. Kinda confused on why at the moment.
I plan on having 2 themes. stock icons with black notification bar only and then my modified icons for 1.4.1. Dell official when the rom is not so bugged. Thanks for your interest!

First and foremost, this would not have originally been possible without all the hard work zimphishmonger and the3dman13 did to bring fighspit's original battery mod to the vibrant, please see the original thread here, and give them some thanks! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756441
I'm also borrowing zimphishmonger's warning, as i think it works to keep warning messages standard across all these battery mod threads.
WARNING: ALWAYS make a nandroid backup prior to installing any modification, including this one. You are making the decision to install this on your own, and I am not responsible for anything nuclear that may happen to your device.
UPDATE.. I lost count (10/5/2010)
So I dig Eugene's Frankin-twiz rom's, but I still want to keep my accurate battery mod, and well, I think his glossy-black skin is ugly. I also think the stock vibrant touchwiz skin is ugly (for the love of all that's holy samsung, why did you decide the vibrant would be the ONLY galaxy s phone to get your stupid glossy version of touchwiz?!)
So, I ported my battery mod to frankin-twiz and at the same time, ripped all the matte (non glossy) drawable's from the I9000 touchwiz skin, and added in my colored status/signal, mms, calendar, music player, and gmail icons, restored the black background for the power control widget, added HTC's weather icons to GenieWidget.apk, changed to the stock I9000 bootup and shutdown animation and sounds, and of course, I probably missed something else too, lol. You can see some (semi-outdated) screenshots here: http://picasaweb.google.com/113127051130934911253/AndroidStuff?feat=directlink
Also, if you find yourself being a typography nerd like me, you can use this zip to switch the default system font to Comfortaa I take NO CREDIT WHATSOEVER for making the original font, or the android port, I only re-packaged the files into a Clockwork-mod zip file for the vibrant. This will also change the lockscreen clock font to comfortaa, but ONLY if using the default android lockscreen.
Comfortaa system fonts: http://www.4shared.com/file/hYu1TYHL/Comfortaa_system_fonts_ONLY.html
New for ftwiz_final: I'm including an extra version with the samsung calendar AND the AOSP mms app, per Eugene's thread, since it resolves issues with being unable to send sms/mms messages. I'm also including the newest version of my battery mod (this is the version I personally like best and use daily), based on the upright/vertical icons, but with colored borders/outline, and a smoother charging animation (thanks to untermensch!) This can be applied on its own, after you flash either of the other versions. If flashed without flashing one of the other versions first, it DOES NOT contain the gmail/calendar/mms/music player icons, or the startup & shutdown animations and sounds. You can see a screenshot added to the post below too.
Download links here, ftwiz_final ONLY:
Removed, sorry, too many people use other people's work without giving credit, and it leads to way too many headaches, he-said/she-said, ignorance, etc.
Everything should flash via clockwork recovery fine, place the zip on the root of your INTERNAL /sdcard directory, reboot into clockwork, I recommend wiping the cache & dalvik-cache, then install zip from sdcard, locate the specific zip, reboot.
Enjoy, cheers everyone, and if you come in here posting bugs/whining for help without first making sure you cleared your cache and dalvik-cache, then I'm just going to ignore you,
Looks Great!!!
Thanks alot works well on my phone
i love it! not a big fan of the round battery icon, so this is great
Great work! Glad to see everyone is making their own customized battery images. We are gonna have a battery collection soon.
just a quick update to the OP with a new version with some colored/themed status icons.
cheers

I did, switched from the green circle. The battery indicator works fine.
I used the circle one but saw this with the other colored icons and thought they were cool. Seems that they don't quite work properly. Stock the GPS indicator shows in the notification bar any time it's on. With the new icons from the op the indicator is only on if I'm in an app that is using the GPS. I'm going to flash back to stock then to the battery only mod (i figure I need to to switch the other icons?)

Hi,
Thanks for trying it out. I have no idea how there might be issues since this is literally just img replacement from the segmented green circular battery mod, so however icons should work with that mod, is how they should work with this mod.
Maybe run a fix permissions from rom manager and see if that helps?
Also, my GPS icon has never worked like you described, even stock, (in other words, mine isn't always visible in notification bar, even when not in an app actively using gps, its displayed only when using an app that needs GPS, and disappeared when exiting the app.)
If you want to try and modify your own framework-res.apk with these files, I may upload just my png images once I'm done replacing/coloring all the icons I feel like modifying.
Thanks again for trying it out though, cheers
Lastly, I got bored and colored the wifi icons, cell-signal icons, and vibration indicator icon, I'll post the framework-res.apk in the first post, but won't package a new update.zip until I decide I'm done modifying icons, lol.

Hey again,
Glad I wasn't screwing up phone's, lol.
Anyway, I'm still working on changing all the icons, can't seem to decide where to stop yet, since now I've started modifying icons for other apps, gmail, mms, google voice, trillian, etc. And of course, now that I've gone with a slightly brighter green in the other icons, I may go back and tweak the color of my battery icon to match.
Anyway, here's a screenshot of some of the icons I'm mostly finished with (though for some reason I'm not digging the alarm icon, anyone have color suggestions for it?)
cheers,
=)

Yeah...sorry about that. Anyway I hate that stupid icon to begin with so maybe something totally different? I did a GIS for alarm clock icon and there are a lot of possibilities. I think that maybe the stock one with a red square and white clock could be good.
Edit: Maybe something like this

If you don't already have it, I suggest you install Koush's Clockwork Recovery. You can install it quickly by using ROM Manager.
Once you boot into the recovery ROM, you can back up your entire phone using Nandroid (highly advised) and then you're free to experiment to your heart's content.
Now back to your question: you can save the file to your internal SD card and search for it using the 'Install from SD' (or something like that) option in the Clockwork ROM, install it and reboot.
Good luck, friend.
What's the right way to revert this? framework-res.apk restore?
Updated OP with newest mod.
I think I'm done with this for a while now, though I might zip all the png files if someone else wants to try and make this into a morph when the app gets updated.

Hi,
Yes, restoring your backed-up framework-res.apk will restore the battery mod. If you used the newer zip that also includes the Gmail icon mod, then you'll need to restore Gmail.apk too /system/app too.

Windows instructions
Backup framework-res.apk and services.jar in /system/framework !!!!!
You will need ADB working
Download notificationbar145.zip or notificationbar145andicons.zip or v2
Extract framework-res.apk and services.jar to your ADB folder
Ensure Streak is powered on and USB debug is enabled
Use the following commands to copy to your Streak
ADB remount
ADB push framework-res.apk /system/framework
ADB push services.jar /system/framework
ADB reboot
Notificationbar145v2
Updated version of the original notificationbar145. This has a new black notification bar and bottom bar. New battery icon. No other changes.

Really great job
I was wondering if u could point me in any direction regarding how to change framework stuff. I have a lot of custom icons tweaked with gimp and the only problem I have is copying over the original apk. I know adb pretty well and I'm very streak savvy I guess. Just new to themeing
Tried 'notificationbar141andicons.zip' on 1.4.2 and after a long boot up it works fine
It reset my wallpaper back to the clouds and It lost my google account and facebook account sign in info.
The date in the top left seems to be off centre when you pull down the menu, and the red background is a bit gareish, IMO that is
Font colors updated, date cut off fixed and now updated for 1.4.5 of the awesome DJ Steve's froyo.
Hi quikt,

Flashed the theme, and there are some white on white, and the icons in settings is still TI, (flashed over TI)

Guess what, i forgot to add the themed apps in the first release. That's why none of the apps was themed.

Yup dialler is as in screenshot, sorry dumb question, which part is the statusbar..? LOL! Far as i can tell the only issue is the white on white in the notif area, i don't have the date showing that would overlap the ongoing icons, as in the OP, IIRC the date is only showing in CM, or i haven't enabled it if at all possible.. downloading 2nd release.

Which launcher are you using. If you install adw and untick wallpaper hack from advanced settings, you will have a transparent statusbar ( the top bar where you get your date/time/data & wifi icons etc ). Oh ok I got it now, no, I don't have the Status bar, as in the pics, the carrier name is the only one there, no status bar icons/widgets.
Nope, no date on the status bar when I pull down for notifications.
You should not see your date. That's how the theme needs to work. And you should be able to see your wallpaper thru the statusbar as shown in the picture below. Use a lighter wallpaper. You cannot make out with a dark wallpaper.
I just flashed the RC2 stock, I was on your original Twisted Inception for the first Special, and leaves the Twisted inception keyboard. It may just be a fluke since it isn't your updated Twisted Inception. No big deal cuz I like that green themed keyboard I posted to go with RC2 anyway. So now gonna try your new themes.

I get it now, sorry bout the confusion, so I checked and the status bar is NOT transparent, tried installing ADW to untick the Wallpaper Hack, didn't change anything though. Still the Status Bar is solid and is not transparent.
I don't think it's a big deal though, but if it's necessary for the theme, by all means just post a build I can test for you.

I dont know why the png's are not changing. Also i changed all network icons to miui style, but it is still green. I'll take a look later.
Ok. Found out why the statusbar is not changing. Its not the themes fault. Usually the statusbar image which is in framework-res.apk is a .9 png ( statusbar_background.9.png ). The theme has this file, but the rom uses a normal png ( statusbar_background.png ). So even if you apply the theme, the statusbar image is not being replaced.
Also found out why network bars are still green. HM has made a lot of changes not found usually in Froyo based roms.
I'll post a final build today.

Great..! Wish we'd know these kinds of things at the onset so you won't have to do more digging, oh well.. will wait for the final build and flash immediately to test and confirm. Thanks!

That makes perfect sense now wish we could have thought of it, since we do know this isn't your normal build with mass changes in it, we just don't know enough about anything to be able to know that lol. Sorry for wasting your time sileshn and thanks for making the unusual adjustments for us.
That's ok guys. I am uploading 3 versions of the miui theme now.
1. Transparent status bar - no date
2. Transparent status bar - with date ( notifications images will overlap date )
3. Non Transparent stock statusbar
As soon as someone checks and lets me know that they all work as expected, i will port the other themes.
Sometimes i get fustrated with things and that's why i was a bit harsh in my comments a couple of weeks back. No hardfeelings, LM.
You know that this is my hobby and i do it because it feel good. And also for a few cups of coffee whenever i get a donation.
It is not perfect yet, but its close. I am working on a few more APKs themed to match as well.
I adjusted some of the colors to better see the pop-ups, and added a few icons from NickShertzer's Touch of ICS version
Added themed Email, Settings, DeskClock, Mms, DellSettingsProvider, SettingsProvider, Gallery3D, and Gmail by Me
Added slightly tweaked themed Contacts and Phone by 2BAD4U
Added ICS Boot Animation
Added ICS Fonts
It is a little different for downloads. Choose what you want.
Theme A -Center Clock and Reboot Button on Power Button
Theme A Link
Theme B - Clock on Right, and quick reboot when Power button is pressed
Theme B Link
Theme Pack has ICS Themed apks only

It goes great with;
ICS bootanimation
ICS Themed Gingerbread Keyboard
ICS 2.4 Launcher
Task List In No Particular Order Yet:
adjust battery size in status bar
theme more apks
remove center clock
adjust size of 240dpi Popup menus -Done
looking like a good start!
Could I please request a version that doesn't have the white border around the battery icon? not sure what it is, but it looks a bit odd...
The version without the border is the actual one from ICS, it is a small battery and doesn't have any number system to inform you of battery life. I still am up in the air about the battery icon to use I have 3 to choose from. It may be an option download next batch.
yeah that's true, I have a battery widget with percentage on it so don't mind the lack of numbers in the status bar
Are u going to use the digital numbers for battery? If so that's the one I prefer. Like the big battery numbers!

Idk if its just a typo but the boot animation and keyboard files are both named bootanimation.zip

Mostly looks great, I have some bugs to report, though
The menu buttons (i.e. when pressing "menu" button on home screen) seems to be a bit off, with only a couple of the buttons displaying text labels with the tops cut off, some other buttons with no labels and noticeably larger than normal icons...
I flashed the "small" version (perhaps obvious given my previous request!)
I know it's a work in progress, felt it more useful to report my experience rather than just say "needs more work", hopefully it helps!
Yes I am aware of the menu items size. I am still working on those for version 2.

What's the hex number for the color u used for this theme?

Reporting an issue. Flashed the theme on SD 2.4.4 and everything seemed to work. The UI is very elegant. However when I pressed the power button - the menu didn't show up and the Streak went into a reboot to the SD boot animation. Following the restart, again when I pressed the power menu didn't appear and the phone went into a reboot to the SD (matrix) animation again. Had to uninstall for now until I figure out what's causing it.
I was using the medium icon theme.
Also just noticed the vibrate icon is invisible.

I have something else to add; with the "small" variant, the battery icon looks strangely out-of-scale to the rest of the row. Granted that means greater resolution of the levels, but it might look better if it was the same height and level with the signal meter and alarm icon.
Essentially exactly the same as the Gingerbread battery icon, but blue
No icon for switching vibrate to silent on the status bar.

just to add to above, i tested using large and small variant of this theme but with same result as narrated in quote.
New version should be available later today. It should address most of the issues.

Zips fixed to fix percent battery issue. For some reason the script is making an extra res folder in some apps, but it doesn't cause problems.
I have created a red theme that is a little different than most of the others I've seen. Instead of theming every png I could find, I chose to theme only certain aspects and stick to more of a stock look.
What I did theme:
Status bar icons (Battery, Data, Sync, Signal Bars, GPS, Airplane Mode, Silent/Vibrate, Alarm, WiFi, USB to PC)
(Clock color can be changed in Mik Tweaks)
Dialer
Keyboard
Most all selection highlights (see pic below)
Clock widgets
various other elements
What apps are being themed?
Fusion.apk
framework-res.apk
SystemUI.apk
HTCDialer.apk
PCSC.apk
HTC_IME.apk is replaced with a deodexed version
How to install:
Make a backup first!
Download the RedNole skin app HERE and install using a file explorer. Then, select the RedNole skin from the Personalize menu.
AND
Choose one of the following options:
1. Download THIS version for the theme with stock-like battery (themed red).
2. Download THIS zip for the theme with percent battery mod (red text numbers).
3. Download THIS version for theme if you already have a battery mod that you want to keep.
Flash the downloaded zip file in recovery after making a backup. Reboot and enjoy.
I recommend using Amon Ra, not tested on any other recovery.
==== Keyboard only =====
Download the RedNole Keyboard HERE and flash in recovery. I made it a deodexed app so it can be used on other 3.6 roms. That also means that the install script will delete the HTC_IME.odex file. If you want to revert back to stock, you will need to restore that file as well.

Looks great. The only thing I would suggest is the WiFi icon. Looking forward to the keyboard.

this is really slick thanks so much! putting the sense lockscreen back on just to get that deep red ring. thanks again!

glad to see another fan of the red color. I would definitely like to see the stock but keep red all at the status bar. everything red then a white clock is like...ugh..lol.. for more stock look I'd revert the lock ring. be nice to see this on newer sense 3.6 roms
Thanks for the feedback. Still working on the keyboard. Will definitely include WiFi icons in next update.
Love the theme bro. Like they said, only thing I need is WiFi icon and my clock #'s are black instead if red for the widget. Perfect theme for the perfect Rom

This theme dropped at the perfect time. I didn't have time on my long weekend off last week but I was thinking about finally doing a red one this weekend. This is so spot on to what I was planning that I'll be proud to rock it instead.

Now that I'm going through most the icons I use in the status bar could u add alarm, silent, airplane mode, and when GPS locks icons please. I mean like when u enter google maps and the GPS satellite shows up. Also the keyboard icon to select input method when you're typing. Other than those this theme is really sick. Thanks

If your clock widget numbers are still black, make sure you installed the skin and select it from the Personalize menu. Those numbers are in the m10 file in the skin.
For those looking for the status bar clock to be red, you can change that in the Mik Tweaks.
I'll add that to op.

You may want to try changing the Scene to something different and back. I vaguely remember that working for a few people before when trying to a skin to work. Mine is set to the Verizon scene.
Here's a preliminary version of the keyboard. It is not complete yet, but getting close. It is a deodexed app, so the install script will delete HTC_ime.odex. Make a backup, then flash in recovery.
Edit: Link removed, completed version posted in OP.
Keyboard added to OP. Screenshot of keyboard added as well. Keyboard is a deodexed app, so it should work on other 3.6 roms.

Working on an update to use the VillianTheme engine. That should make this work for all 3.6 global roms, not just Ineff Dues.
OP updated with VillainTheme engine versions. Please let me know if something doesn't work correctly.
