remove voodoo fix stock recovery kernel for wipe: http://www.sdx-downloads.com/devs/noobnl/test-signed-recovery-update-fascinate.zip

Sweet! Now I can see if I can turn this into a flash in terminal... even if not this still rocks! Thanks!

Worked flawlessly for me. Thanks a million.

Works like a charm. Right when I make a post last night about CWM not being permanent, this gets posted. SWEET!

So should I do this now or just wait till 2.2 is released?

Question: what exactly does this do?
Sent from my Fascinate using the official XDA Forum App.

Thanks for the post.... and for the above poster, makes it so you don't have to have the update.zip for CWR. If you watch before installing this when you reboot into CW it "installed" through a zip before it opened every time. Now it doesn't need that. Nothing major, just a final clean and permanent CWR. Thanks again OP.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

sweet worked great.

So for the update.zip method we just flash in cwm recovery? Or in the stock recovery?

Thanks for the update, noobnl.
Allow me to add a word of caution, however. This will make recovering from voodoo removal that much more difficult.
Just something to consider.

How so? The only step that takes place in stock recovery is a data wipe, which is then repeated in CWM. It's questionable that both are necessary. Or am I missing the bigger picture here?

I welcome you to try just the cwm wipe, and let me know if it is the only step necessary.

Was that sarcasm or a genuine invite? Does the stock recovery wipe data that CWM doesn't? It just seems kind of repetitive, but for all I know I'm completely off my rocker. I've been running non-voodoo kernels recently, and I don't really feel like going through the PITA process of removing it again.

There is no worse feeling in the world than the moment you realize you're completely and totally...wrong.
It hurt just watching that, man. I can't imagine what went through your mind the very moment you realized who you were talking to....
"D'oh!"
Been there, done that. Who hasn't.

im just a little confused by the OP. is it 2 different methods? or need to do both? can i just do the update.zip and im done? thanks

I have put this up in my section of ROM Manager, with credit to the creators, just to help with distribution. If you would like me to take it down please let me know and I'll be glad to.

To explain:
No, its not always necessary, but yes, the stock recovery does wipe things that cwm does not. One thing for instance, is /data/fota.
Secondly, while not necessary, I have worked with probably 20 different people in IRC with it, and so far, its been the only method to escape force close hell, is by wiping with one then the other, in that order. Sometimes fc hell happens when uninstalling voodoo and only wiping with cwm.
So, it is an extra step, and not always needed. But in the event you do one day need that extra step...well don't come to me. You will have an appointment with odin.

The instructions are kinda weird....do we do both steps or just one of them?

[Q] Problems Flashing ShadowRom Onto Eris (missing file)

Hey all.
I've been trying to flash ShadowROM onto my eris (got the eris dl off their site), but everytime I try to flash it on it gives me "E:missing file: recovery/recovery-from-boot.p" and "E:Verification failed" and then aborts the installation.
So I then tried re-downloading the rom, but the same thing happened again.
Any ideas on what might be going on? I did all my wipes and everything so I'm not really sure what could be going on. Also I have been using Evil Eris for a while, if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
EDIT: Also I'm currently on 2.1 so I'm not sure if theres anything I need to do to be able to put a 2.2 rom on my eris.

At this time it doesn't work with Amon's recovery. It only will work if you use clockwork, which isn't recommended. I got it to work but I use a rom kitchen and replaced the boot-img.

You don't need to replace the boot.img....the rom just needs to be signed and it will flash fine amon's. Clockwork can load an unsigned rom but amons can't....

Thanks for the info that would have been easier. I just replace it because of the error message.
**please ignore, sorry!**
Clockwork wont hurt your phone. Also when you go into to clockwork and flash clockwork recovery it will only temp use clockwork as a recovery just to install the rom. After that it will boot into amon.

He means that this rom will not work with amons recovery because it isn't signed. You can create a zip that isn't sign, meaning you never used a program that signs zips, but you can't flash a zip in amons unless it is signed. So if you just create a zip it probably won't work, but if you use an autosigner then you will be in buisness. I hope this helps, probably not because I have been drinking.
Just so there's full information in case someone finds this thread in the future.
There was a bug with using Clockwork Mod Recovery with the Eris. They squashed it, at least 2-3 months ago.
Besides, you don't have to get rid of amon in order to use clockwork. Just download ROM Manager from the Market and it will make it so that you can load clockwork from amon. Then you get all the advantages of ROM Manager and clockwork without any hassles.

This seems to be a hit or miss build for the Eris. About 50% (guestimated) of Eris users are unable to boot with v0.2.x and there is no known reason why, even after viewing logcats.
I have dropped the entire desirec device configuration (a mix of kaos & conap) and have forked over a pure conap device config for v0.3.x to attempt to fix this issue. We won't know for sure until v0.3.0 finally releases to the masses. All my testers (even myself) are able to run v0.2.x just fine.
There is no ETA for v0.3.0 at this time.
I'm sorry if this is off topic but I need to ask. Were can you get themes for ShadowRom? Do you just use anything that is for cynogen? Is it best to use metamorph or and update.zip?
I flashed shadowrom using clockmod just fine.

We currently have zero themes for the eris. We rely on themers to provide ports, which none have done yet.

[HowTo] Fix your phone after i screwed it up with 2.7 :(

I feel like an ass. Normally things like this don't slip by me. I tested myself and it ran fine, but I never thought non voodoo users would have issues.
I am very, very sorry.
Anyway, enough grovelling from me.
To fix your phone and get back to some semblance of normal:
1. Download this EB01 Odin. This is the FULL enchilada. It is just like the DI01 all in one. http://www.multiupload.com/I9HBT8MXN1
Use this PIT: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2056318/atlas_v2.2.pit
Odin file goes in pda section of Odin, and pit goes in pit section.
Flash and boot up once.
Turn off phone and go back to Download Mode.
Flash this recovery from Odin (credit jt1134)
http://db.tt/6dZUc7d
Reboot once.
Boot back to recovery and restore your nandroid, or flash a new rom.
Once again, very sorry for the whole mess.
Most of you probably know this already, but I'd like to add that you should flash 2.6, then flash 2.7.1 to get it to work properly. Do NOT flash the 2.7.1 update after the 2.7 update.
Edit: This relates to non-voodoo users. I'm not aware if voodoo users had problems or not
So I'm nonvoodoo. Is there anything I should worry about?
edit: I'm dumb. I read that wrong. but I don't think I am having problems. What is it I should look out for?
Sooo... I flashed 2.7 then 2.7.1 with CW3 (before I referred back to this thread) and I do not have a problem that I am aware of. Was the issue only with non-voodoo?
The only issue I had is when I tried to reflash the EB16 voodoo kernel again (after 2.7.1 flash)... it aborted. But, I rebooted and all is well.
Outside of that, the only other issue I've had, and this was with 2.6, 2.7 and now with 2.7.1, Launcher Pro fc's during or just after media scanning/start-up... but when it restarts after that, it works great.
def
I just flashed 2.7 and I don't have any problem, I'm nonvoodoo also, however I'll notify you if something happens

Adrynalyne, you have put a TON of time and effort into all this stuff, and I am nothing but grateful. Without your work, my wife's fascinate would be...well, less than desirable. With it, I have to question my decision to go with the Droid Inc!
Hey, we take risks using ROMS, and that's just how it goes sometimes. But the reward far outweighs the risk!
Thanks again for all your hard work, and for helping out this community. I think I can speak for the collective (dare I?) when I say that.

Theres another way of restoring instead of doing full odin. Just boot into recovery. Plug the phone to computer and start adb.
use this command:
adb push "name of rom" /sdcard
after its done. Just go back and flash the working rom from recovery. Much safer and easier than using ODIN. Anyway.. I have been using android phones for a long time and stuff like this happens ..
I have SC 2.7 Voodoo. All rights. All works fine.

If this is the route you want to take (I highly recommend it as well), I would check out this thread or even this thread (although it is on Android Central, so you will need to make an account to see all the links if you don't already have one). They are pretty similar (the latter is a bit overboard on detail, but that can be a good thing if you are new to the process) and should at least get you started on learning what it is you need to learn to ultimately wind up at ComRom 2.1. I hope this helps!

Evil Fascination and Community Rom are two different roms and both will root your phone when flashed... this is how mine's set up for ComRom and it works flawlessly:
1) download odin, samsung mobile phone drivers, debloated/debinged/deodexed EB01 all in one package, CWR3-Voodoo, and ComRom 2.0 package of your choice and the 2.1 patch... place ComRom and its patch onto your sd card
2) use odin to install EB01
3) boot up phone once to let it format itself
4) power off phone and use odin to then install CWR3-Voodoo
5) boot straight into CWR, wipe data/cache/dalvik 3 times each and assuming you don't want to backup/restore data (I usually just use Titanium Backup app from the market) proceed to install .zip of ComRom 2.0
6) select reboot phone and let it boot up, it may take a while the first time
7) congrats, you're rooted and running ComRom 2.0
8) to install the patch simply hold the power button down until the menu pops up, select recovery
9) this will boot you into CWR again, no data/cache wipe necessary simply install .zip ComRom 2.1 patch then reboot phone again
10) congrats now you're rooted, voodoo'd, and running the latest ComRom
hope this helps, that's about as simple and short as I can make it

this should give you a current recovery (CWM), I use the first one:

yes it has an option for enabling/disabling lagfix but its optional.. even if you decide to flash a rom with no voodoo kernel you can still use that CWM with no worries

Thanks. Since I'm allready rooted, can I skip to steps 20-24 and do that?

yeah if you're rooted and running the baseband you want (ED01 or whatever) the boot into CWR and flash the rom you want... you're going to need to do a data/cache/dalvik wipe before flashing the initial ComRom 2.0 package so make any backups you want.. once its done installing reboot phone to make sure everything works right, then boot back into recovery and flash the patch (no wiping or anything needed) any questions or problems be sure to post them

Thanks! I back up my stuff though Titanium back up. One thing though, how do I tell if I have CWR installed? Thanks for your help!

[MOD] CWM Recovery to Stock without ODIN

Long time lurker, first time contributor.
After rooting, installing CWM recovery, Saurom, Da_G's kernel and a few tweaks I wanted to wipe and start over (and do some ICS hacking!). Unfortunately I didn't see a really quick way to do it (other than ODIN, what a pain - I'm on linux).
So I wrote a little update script to overwrite existing partitions with stock images stored on the sdcard. But here's the twist, instead of hardcoding everything in the update zip, it uses a property file on the sdcard at run-time.
Check it out, flame away...
Hope someone finds it useful.
I will try it later this week

Great idea! It works, now I can put different combination of OC, ROMs, Rooting in different folders and flash to any set I want in one step without increasing the counter.
This post should move to Development forum to get more discussions.
Thank you.
Thats awesome. Always wondered why no one had done this

complete modding has already been accomplished without increasing the flash counter, I have rooted, installed cwm recovery, flashed overclocking kernel by da_g, and I haven't increase the flash counter, and I'm waiting for the tpc v3 to flash that and as long as is on cwm zip format I can flash whatever I want without the worry of the flash counter ever going up. Now that cwm is fully working(except for usb storage)people will make stuff in cwm format, this method would help if it would be necessary to go back to stock in case of a mayor issue, and what's so great about your recovery that you say it blows away cwm?

I think he means overwrites recovery, i.e. reverts back to completely stock.
Yup..including recovery...without the need for adb
That what makes it pretty Much awesome. I have seen the nook guys do this but not many others
The other stuff about is just neat
Its development...which we sorely need and should be encouraging

Broken Wi-Fi

I got my new refurbished phone today and I usually know how to do the whole root process crap, but somewhere along the lines, I must have rushed something. My Wi-Fi is broken. I'm guessing it had something to do with 2.3.4 and 2.3.6 and something to do with a build, but where do I go from here? I tried wiping and I also tried using the Odin 1 click to go back to stock, and it's still broken. Like wtf?
Currently on 2.3.4.

Flash a rom
Sent from Team Pirate Headquarters
So your wifi is broken. But are you rooted, as you said that's what you're trying to accomplish? If so, what did you use to root? if you've got a custom kernel installed just flash anything you want in CWM.

If you are still on "back to stock" UCKH7 then enter 3e recovery and do a wipe data/factory reset. I know you said you wiped before, but it looks like you did that before you flashed back to stock. So try the wipe again from 3e recovery, and if that does not solve the problem, then let us know as your issue is more serious.
simplicityy, pls do not complicate your life but simplify it by not flash anything.
You wouldn't ask and suffer with the "crap" if you didn't play with it
Here's the help, since you did not want to provide detail info, I assume you KNOW what have done correctly.
Advice, get into recovery, wipe data/factory reset and see if it helps.
I rooted using the back to stock thing, but then I searched tediously and flashed a siyah kernel just to get CWM on the phone.
As of right now, it's on stock UCKH7 but rooted, but without a custom kernel. And I tried wiping using 3e recovery. Wi-Fi still broken.

That advice has already been given, and tried. Also, I do not appreciate your condescending manner. I'm not stupid. Why do I flash stuff? Because I find it interesting and it's good knowledge to learn about, PLUS it helps me have a sexier phone.
As for detailed info, what more information would you want that would provide use?

Firstly, I didn't say you're stupid. I know you just want to make your phone pretty, that's why you complicated your life. You want to learn? Sure, read more, that's all I suggest. READ MORE =/= STUPID. If you don't want to read, but just flash then ask then it's your choice.
Secondly, brandon has asked you some info, you reply was "I don't remember". You don't remember what you have done, where you get from. That's a sign of problem, m8.
Anyway, I just gave you an advice, take it or leave it.
I'm out.

votinh wasn't helping. And he may not have DIRECTLY called me it, but it's implied with his reply and the stuff he's telling me. I don't want another flame war because of this crap. If you're not going to help, just don't post. That goes for everyone.
I appreciate people like creepyncrawly though. He actually tries to help without being a condescending asshole about it and making assumptions about me that aren't even true.
Update: Phone was on UCKH7, rooted, broken wi-fi. 3e recovery wipe didn't help. Flashed a siyah kernel through Odin, then flashed Phone bricker through CWM. Wi-Fi is still broken.

Not sure what would account for that. I would suggest that you flash stock again. You can choose either the straight stock, or the stock plus root. Redownload the install file of your choice just to make sure you have a good download. Download links are in the guides linked in my signature. Do a wipe data/factory reset both before and after you flash. (for good measure.)
If you still have no working wifi, then I would suggest you start taking steps to see if your hardware is malfunctioning. You might try flashing the full UCKH7 firmware package which includes bootloaders and param.lfs from the Download Repository. Or you might try flashing Entropy512's UCKK6 stock plus root firmware package. Or you might try flashing the UCLE5 stock plus root firmware package that is available in the development section. Remember to do a wipe data/factory reset before flashing any of these firmwares, but read the warnings in the UCLE5 thread.

You really should stop making new threads. The last ones ended with you calling people names and you flaming people that are giving you advice. You'd think since February that you would have learned not to flame people.

Just to make sure... and I suggest you not be derogatory towards me, but are you FULLY wiping before you flash? I know Wi-Fi being broken us common when rooting and wiping helps. Happened to me.

Obviously, the "if you aren't going to help, just don't post" didn't mean anything to you. And I like how you just ignore everything that was said. votinh didn't help. He didn't even READ the posts in the thread. He suggested something that was already suggested and tried, AND he started making assumptions and what he was implying was insulting. Nonetheless, you're in the same category as him. Done with you.

Depends what you mean by FULLY wiping. I wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache. If there's some other method of "fully wiping" that I don't know about, please do tell.
Update: I have re-downloaded the one click downloaders to go back to stock, rooted and unrooted. ( I tried both). Wi-Fi is STILL broken. This is getting annoying. It seems like nothing is working. Then again, I was never able to test out the Wi-Fi before I started rooting it. If it's a hardware error, I'm going to be pissed.
A full wipe includes the/system partition as well. Also what ROMS are you currently trying this with?

When I choose to flash a ROM, I flash phone bricker because I used Odin to flash a custom kernel to get CWM and then I use triangle away and flash back to ICScrewed 2.1 or unoriginal. Wi-Fi doesn't work at any moment, whether I am on 2.3.4, 2.3.6, stock, etc.
I still have yet to attempt flashing the second bootloader and param stuff creepyncrawly mentioned, but I've never done that and I know flashing that stuff can brick your phone, so I'm reading up on it so that I don't screw up.
