[Q] Are there any downsides to using the Nordic Update method? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was just wondering if there are any downsides to updating with the nordic method. theres no word yet from rogers about an update yet and I don't really want to wait.

I'm on Rogers and I'm using that firmware. No problems or issues.

Same!!! Its been perfect for me. Im extremely happy with 2.1

Cool thanks, I might give it a try then

I am on Rogers as well, it's great but I noticed today that I can not do a file transfer over bluetooth like I could with 1.6...can do audio but that's it.

I would suggest maby go for the WORLD GENERIC it seems more stable than the NORDIC maby its just me but after trying the NORDIC when it first came out the WORLD GENERIC seems to be a bit better
note im not on ROGERS Im on VODA in the UK but if your going to do the update try it and see which is best
remember to backup first as much as you can (root your 1.6 and use Titanium backup to backup your apps and data)

World Generic eh, do ya got a link handy for a how-to on that

Rogers' FW update is released starting tomorrow

No problems here at all! I now hear someone has successfully updated their X10 to 2.2 and it is running perfectly as well.

I recently bought an itech wireless bluetooth keyboard but have not had any success in pairing with it. Has anyone had experience with it working that would like to help out?

I'm sure I read somewhere that 1.6 does not support Bluetooth HID such as keyboards.
Unless I am mistaken, you should wait a few days until 2.1 is released and try then.

I'm also in Australia. If you're with Optus, update using SEUS. They have 026 as I do..
Except I'm using the UK version which is starting to **** me.

With Telstra, although i debranded from x10a to x10i, the general forums say im on the correct firmware, will try unlocking the phone and using my other sim cards. I didnt really care about android over9000 firmware update until now, want my Hd recording, 16m colors and bluetooth 2.1 HID DAMMNIT.
There is an app for it. There is an app that allows you to connect a BT keyboard to the x10/android 1.6 phone.
I've tried it my self, and it worked. But I normally use it with my computer instead.
I can't quite remember the name. But it was a bit trublesome to use it imo.
But it does work!
All I remember is that I searched for BT HID or something in the Market.
If you want to be able to use enter/space etc.. youl'l need to pay for the app.

My expectations of getting 2.1 are by Q3 2011, we have already been delayed 6months and im still on 014 so by the time its ready for my carrier it wont be til atleast december. i read somewhere that 2.1 would be coming out sometime this week OTA for areas with the majority of SE users.

If your phone is a X10a is better come back to it's native firmware...
The X10i uses another frequency in 3G.

I guess Barnacle works for you, It did for me with an X10i.
And it's free.
Barnacle works well but I found not all versions with 1.6 so I'd recomend upgrading but if you've rather not just find old versions on the devs website and try them one by one, can't remember which one worked sorry, but hopefully the most recent one will work fine by now.
Think you might have to fill in some of the fields yourself (interface in settings) on older versions but don't worry theres a guide on this forum.

baseband .61 and baseband .67 for telstra

hi guys
with the new baseband, i noticed that these are built for x10is, and from what i gathered the rogers update did not update the baseband?
if so is there any performance gains from moving to .61 or .67 for a x10a like mine?
.54 is working the best so far..
any other Aussie testers out there with feedback??
thanks
I cant even flash the new BB to my X10i but as soon as I do I'll let you know
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
i gave .61 a quick try before, but it doesn't seem to be better than .54
just want to know if ti's just me
I installed 2.1.B.0.1 lastnight with bb .67 on EW's V001 and it gave me nice d/l and u/l speed, (2200kbps/1500kbps) but this morning my data dropped in and out alot.
I flashed .54 and .58 and it wasn't as fast as it normally is (tested for about 1/2 hour) so it might of just been bad weather or heavy traffic.
Went back to .67 and it was the same as .54/.58 so I'll give it a day to see how it goes tonight and tomorrow.
*edit.... anyone know the APN settings for optus, i can't recieve mms
You have pm LJE.
thanks guys for the feedback
keep them coming
especially if there are other fellow x10a users out there
edit:AT&T update soon, good news for x10a
Finally flashed new bb to x10i and can definately feel a difference in battery life, touch screen responsiveness and less lag

So are you saying here that the AT&T branded firmware/baseband update would be recommended for Australian X10a users? Or just X10a in general and maybe not for us in Australia?
Cheers.
i think in general
but i do know that AT&T uses the same frequency as Telstra, hence there might be better performance compare to a more x10i centric baseband such as .61 or .67
i haven't had time to do speed test so far
i mainly use .65 now to stay compatible with Trip's ROMs

Well if they use the same frequency them I'd have to say that it would have to be best. (I'm actually on three but they use telstra network so out should be okay!)
Cheers!
I have x10 from virgin, but use 3. Have tried alot of diff.basebands nut .54 is the best. I use trip mui rom, 1.02 and 1.08

I heard that the shared frequently between three and telstra would be switch off next year as a apart of telstra building their 4g network
so yeah ... don't rely on it
Anyways anyone tried. 65? I heard there might be a SMS bug...

:EDIT:
So I can sms with .67, but it stuffs up the automatic date/time function somehow.... :S It thinks it's 1/1/2010 @ 11AM :-O
What about performance? When I used it I wasn't very convinced of its performance

apart from extra bloatware ,and a potential '0% battery' problem , i dont think there should be any differences. (if ur phone is natively R8OOi )

Whoops, looks like I missed this topic and replied to another one instead. I'll repost here because it's more appropriate to this thread.
This release is the second release of the 2.3.4 firmware, right? I ask because I installed the Generic UK 2.3.3 firmware to my Google I/O R800a months ago and received the second 2.3.3 OTA update bringing it up to 4.0.A.2.368 about a month before the version for the North American R800a dropped. By all indications at the time, the UK firmware was getting updates out way faster.
But now this has been released and I still haven't seen anything come up for OTA or through PC Companion or SEUS. It makes me wonder if I should just flash back to the Generic North American R800a ROM with this.
Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks!
Weird. When I plug my phone into my computer PC Companion tells me there is an update for my phone (the version that this thread is about). If I search for software update in the phone it says I am up to date. I'm on 2.3.4 now (4.0.1.A.0.283) which I believe is the UK generic version.
The .283 is the Nordic 2.3.4

So I've been loving this FW to death... except for one aspect.
BLOATWARE IS OFF THE ****ING CHARTS!
As if all the other expected stuff wasn't enough, now they're forcing Google Books, Video Unlimited, like 3 different "Get Games" things, LiveWare, a bunch of Facebook integrated stuff, OfficeSuite and PlayNow... and versions of Flash/Facebook/Youtube that can't be removed or moved to SD... holy ****.
Madden, Star Batallion, FIFA and Bruce Lee are also being forced... but I don't mind that much. I like all those games (still wouldn't mind having the option to move that stuff to SD).
The most annoying part is that if I uncheck Automatic Updates, it'll just re-check themselves and slam all those updates on my phone storage when I'm sleeping or something. That's pretty high up there on the "**** move"-o-meter.
Even still though... this ROM has been amazing... like 250MB free natively... 720p recording, xLoud... screen caps... but if someone could modify this ROM and kill off all that crap, I'd be in heaven.

lol I found out about the zergRush method roughly two minutes after I posted that bloatware rant.
Happily rooted, and about to tweak some things to perfection. I don't necessarily want to kill off all the bloatware... I just want it off my goddamn phone storage
IIRC, I can just go straight into the system/app folder and every apk I delete from there uninstalls the app, right? I've been on stock 2.3.3 so long I've forgotten.
Do you need an unlocked bootloader for this, or can you use it if the bootloader is still locked?

I'd like to know that as well. Trying to learn what I can/can't do with this phone compared to the other android phones I've had. Gotta figure out how to use built in tether without a tethering plan next.
