Summary:
I saw a lot of people requested an accurate battery mod for Onyx. I ported one made by s0niqu3. BTW this is my first clockwork flashable mod so beware
Installation:
Always safe to backup your framework-res.apk using adb
Code:
C:\adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk C:\frameworkbackup
Once you do that, download any of the following files depending on which mod you want:
STOCK BATTERY ICON
http://filefactory.com/file/b4399a4/n/onyx-2.1-battery_clockwork_.zip
SEGMENTED CIRCULAR GREEN BATTERY ICON
http://filefactory.com/file/b43a63b/n/onyx-2.1-circular-green-battery_clockwork_.zip
SEGMENTED CIRCULAR BLUE BATTERY ICON
http://filefactory.com/file/b43aa5g/n/onyx-2.1-circular-blue-segmented-battery_clockwork_.zip
CIRCULAR BLUE BATTERY ICON
http://www.filefactory.com/file/b43e3ge/n/onyx-2.1-blue-circle-battery_clockwork_.zip
Example screenshot for stock battery
Now copy it to your internal sdcard, boot into recovery, select install zip using in clockwork, browse for this file and select "yes".
Enjoy...
I flashed it via clockwork and no changes were made to my phone. Running Onyx 2.2.
sent from the other side of my galaxy.
my bad, fixed the update script, works perfect now.
Awesome stuff man! Works great now after your update.
+1
Works great on onyx r2.2 thanks alot

Awesome! works great.
Now if someone could mod the circular ones with and without segments, we would have a ton of happy folks.
Glad I could help, I've added segmented green battery version as well on request from many users...
Your amazing man! Hate to be "that guy " but blue segmented battery? Me love you long time.
sent from the other side of my galaxy.
Will this work with Obsidian or just Onyx?

It will work with Obsidian but it'll mess up the status bar since this one is themed black. Obsidian V2 comes with battery mod preinstalled though if you are just interested in accurate battery status representation.
Yeah blue segmented doesn't work well with the Onyx 2.2, shows green segmented animation charge then will switch to stock icon charging. Wish I could vid cap to show you what I mean.

Hi
just installed the green circular on unofficial Eugene tmo 2.2 and it works great.
Thanks
For some reason the meter stalls whenever I plug it into usb. Even when I unplug it the percentage stays the same for hours and hours.
Sent from my SGH-T959
Edit myself here. I relished it and its working great, both green and blue segmented. Heat work!! User error, my bad.

All three work with it, but I am looking for the solid circle.
Just like this one.
Added solid blue...
Been waiting for this! I just install the green segemented batt icon running the JK2 ASOP and it works!! YEA !!
But I encountered two very tiny draw backs. I lost my clock and the status bar went from white to black. That really doesnt matter to me since I have beautiful widgets installed and I have a black background so it looks nice and clean.
Much rather have an accurate battery icon!!
Thanks again!!
Couldn't get circle battery to work, but segmented kind of works on Onyx R3.
Do not recommend. removes ability to restart and icons change back to stock when plugged in.
will this work with obisand how ever you spell it lol?
all three install and work until you press and hold the power button, system stalls and force reboots afterward. Onyx R3.1

First and foremost, this would not have originally been possible without all the hard work zimphishmonger and the3dman13 did to bring fighspit's original battery mod to the vibrant, please see the original thread here, and give them some thanks! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756441
I'm also borrowing zimphishmonger's warning, as i think it works to keep warning messages standard across all these battery mod threads.
WARNING: ALWAYS make a nandroid backup prior to installing any modification, including this one. You are making the decision to install this on your own, and I am not responsible for anything nuclear that may happen to your device.
UPDATE.. I lost count (10/5/2010)
So I dig Eugene's Frankin-twiz rom's, but I still want to keep my accurate battery mod, and well, I think his glossy-black skin is ugly. I also think the stock vibrant touchwiz skin is ugly (for the love of all that's holy samsung, why did you decide the vibrant would be the ONLY galaxy s phone to get your stupid glossy version of touchwiz?!)
So, I ported my battery mod to frankin-twiz and at the same time, ripped all the matte (non glossy) drawable's from the I9000 touchwiz skin, and added in my colored status/signal, mms, calendar, music player, and gmail icons, restored the black background for the power control widget, added HTC's weather icons to GenieWidget.apk, changed to the stock I9000 bootup and shutdown animation and sounds, and of course, I probably missed something else too, lol. You can see some (semi-outdated) screenshots here: http://picasaweb.google.com/113127051130934911253/AndroidStuff?feat=directlink
Also, if you find yourself being a typography nerd like me, you can use this zip to switch the default system font to Comfortaa I take NO CREDIT WHATSOEVER for making the original font, or the android port, I only re-packaged the files into a Clockwork-mod zip file for the vibrant. This will also change the lockscreen clock font to comfortaa, but ONLY if using the default android lockscreen.
Comfortaa system fonts: http://www.4shared.com/file/hYu1TYHL/Comfortaa_system_fonts_ONLY.html
New for ftwiz_final: I'm including an extra version with the samsung calendar AND the AOSP mms app, per Eugene's thread, since it resolves issues with being unable to send sms/mms messages. I'm also including the newest version of my battery mod (this is the version I personally like best and use daily), based on the upright/vertical icons, but with colored borders/outline, and a smoother charging animation (thanks to untermensch!) This can be applied on its own, after you flash either of the other versions. If flashed without flashing one of the other versions first, it DOES NOT contain the gmail/calendar/mms/music player icons, or the startup & shutdown animations and sounds. You can see a screenshot added to the post below too.
Download links here, ftwiz_final ONLY:
Removed, sorry, too many people use other people's work without giving credit, and it leads to way too many headaches, he-said/she-said, ignorance, etc.
Everything should flash via clockwork recovery fine, place the zip on the root of your INTERNAL /sdcard directory, reboot into clockwork, I recommend wiping the cache & dalvik-cache, then install zip from sdcard, locate the specific zip, reboot.
Enjoy, cheers everyone, and if you come in here posting bugs/whining for help without first making sure you cleared your cache and dalvik-cache, then I'm just going to ignore you,
Looks Great!!!
Thanks alot works well on my phone
i love it! not a big fan of the round battery icon, so this is great
Great work! Glad to see everyone is making their own customized battery images. We are gonna have a battery collection soon.
just a quick update to the OP with a new version with some colored/themed status icons.
cheers

I did, switched from the green circle. The battery indicator works fine.
I used the circle one but saw this with the other colored icons and thought they were cool. Seems that they don't quite work properly. Stock the GPS indicator shows in the notification bar any time it's on. With the new icons from the op the indicator is only on if I'm in an app that is using the GPS. I'm going to flash back to stock then to the battery only mod (i figure I need to to switch the other icons?)

Hi,
Thanks for trying it out. I have no idea how there might be issues since this is literally just img replacement from the segmented green circular battery mod, so however icons should work with that mod, is how they should work with this mod.
Maybe run a fix permissions from rom manager and see if that helps?
Also, my GPS icon has never worked like you described, even stock, (in other words, mine isn't always visible in notification bar, even when not in an app actively using gps, its displayed only when using an app that needs GPS, and disappeared when exiting the app.)
If you want to try and modify your own framework-res.apk with these files, I may upload just my png images once I'm done replacing/coloring all the icons I feel like modifying.
Thanks again for trying it out though, cheers
Lastly, I got bored and colored the wifi icons, cell-signal icons, and vibration indicator icon, I'll post the framework-res.apk in the first post, but won't package a new update.zip until I decide I'm done modifying icons, lol.

Excellent work! I like the new colored signal icons. Consider possibly creating a metamorph of it, as they are very easy to update.

Thanks for the help in getting everyone started with the battery mod, now I just need to decide when enough is enough for theming icons, lol.

I'll be switching back to your colored icons and battery now.
And as soon as you are done changing the icons and create a zip I'll switch to those. I like the color.

Hey again,
Glad I wasn't screwing up phone's, lol.
Anyway, I'm still working on changing all the icons, can't seem to decide where to stop yet, since now I've started modifying icons for other apps, gmail, mms, google voice, trillian, etc. And of course, now that I've gone with a slightly brighter green in the other icons, I may go back and tweak the color of my battery icon to match.
Anyway, here's a screenshot of some of the icons I'm mostly finished with (though for some reason I'm not digging the alarm icon, anyone have color suggestions for it?)
cheers,
=)

Yeah...sorry about that. Anyway I hate that stupid icon to begin with so maybe something totally different? I did a GIS for alarm clock icon and there are a lot of possibilities. I think that maybe the stock one with a red square and white clock could be good.
Edit: Maybe something like this

If you don't already have it, I suggest you install Koush's Clockwork Recovery. You can install it quickly by using ROM Manager.
Once you boot into the recovery ROM, you can back up your entire phone using Nandroid (highly advised) and then you're free to experiment to your heart's content.
Now back to your question: you can save the file to your internal SD card and search for it using the 'Install from SD' (or something like that) option in the Clockwork ROM, install it and reboot.
Good luck, friend.
What's the right way to revert this? framework-res.apk restore?
Updated OP with newest mod.
I think I'm done with this for a while now, though I might zip all the png files if someone else wants to try and make this into a morph when the app gets updated.

Hi,
Yes, restoring your backed-up framework-res.apk will restore the battery mod. If you used the newer zip that also includes the Gmail icon mod, then you'll need to restore Gmail.apk too /system/app too.

Here are a bunch of different Battery Icons from multiple Dev's/Modders including myself that were made... and now work in the JI6 OTA roms.
Big thanks goes out to zimphishmonger for working with me on making the original battery icons based on 'fightspit's mod' work on our Vibrants. Also thank you to s0niqu3 for her modded framework that allowed me to port the icons to OTA JI6, and make them work with the lockscreens.
All these can be flashed with clockwork.
These Icons are only for the JI6 OTA Rom and will not work on the JFD stock rom or any other roms for that matter (This includes Bionix Roms!)
*10-15-10 Fixed the issue with the menu button unlocking the phone in the android lockscreen included with the battery mods. Thanks to s0niqu3 for all her help!
*10-14-10 Added a new Updated Android Battery Icon
See post 4 for the icons with the lockscreen included.
See Post 3 for battery icons that work with the lockscreen mod! (Not Included)
Screenshots are in the the 2nd post.
This post has the battery icons with no lockscreen or lockscreen compatibility.

Circular Battery Blue - Originally by FightSpit and ported by Zimphishmonger & The3dman
Segmented Battery Green - Originally by FightSpit and ported by Zimphishmonger & The3dman

Here are the same icons but made to work with the lockscreen mod installed on OTA JI6. THESE DO NOT HAVE THE LOCKSCREEN INCLUDED.
Battery Icons with LockScreen Included
Here are the same icons again, but these ones have the lockscreen included.
A big thanks goes to untermensch for the LockScreen.
*Update* All these icons have been updated to include the fix to disable the menu button from unlocking the screen with the android lockscreen.
So, will these also work on non-JI2 ROMs? I'm on JFD (stock) and would love the stock accurate battery.

Thanks for the link but it doesn't really seem to be what I'm looking for. Has anyone made a stock battery icon that accurately represents remaining power? I'm thinking no changing colors and no numbers in the center. I like the stock one just the way looks, I just want it to be accurate.

Nope, I didn't bother, because 28 pixels (the stock width of the colored portion of the battery that represents remaining charge) is just too few to accurately represent the current charge levels, at least for me, without also having the numerical percentage.
Seems like a great opportunity to learn a bit about android and fill the mod you want yourself though, happy to help you out along the way, just so tired of making new PNG files myself, at least until we get CM6 or another AOSP rom, sorry.

Hi,
These shouldn't work on the new franken-twiz build, since they use a newer version of framework-res.apk, that likely relies on changes in other framework files not present in the franken-twiz build.
I've made a very rough beta for the franken-twiz of ONLY the upright/vertical battery mod here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758797
WARNING: Read the op in that thread thoroughly, because you'll lose Eugene's custom theme (well, most of it, not 100% though) if you use my mod, since I wasn't able to get the framework-res.apk he modified to recompile without replacing the entire drawable-hdpi folder with one from a stock JFD rom, hence 99% of touchwiz skin is back in my mod.
I'm also not providing it in a flashable zip form yet, because really, if you flashed his franken build, you should know how to use adb push that he enabled.
Cheers,
=)

Hey everyone,
**Update** for JK6 flash the clockwork at the bottom then you can use any of the metamorphs in the second section.
I put together a white battery mod for my phone and thought I would share. I've only tested this on Onyx 4.2 but I don't see why it would'nt work on Obsidian also.
I've now added meta morphs. Axura and black froyo use a slightly different framework from onyx, i've redone them that should work on those rom\mod and they are below the ones for Onyx/Obsidian.
Now that i have a battery and a vibrate icon that i like... time to mess with signal icons.
Edit: Added gray theme.
Edit 2: Added MetaMorphs, and Blue Theme.
Edit 3: Added White stock and Blue2.
Edit 4: Added creator2456's white segmented, and a black froyo\axura mm, added user feedback, and more black froyo\axura mm's.
Edit 5: Vibrant Vibrate Morphs.... Maybe i should just create another thread...
Edit 6: Added Red Circle Battery.
11/23/10: Added signals, Cleaned up post.
11/28/2010: Add more vibrate icons, 3G icon, more cleanup.

i had the black froyo mod installed. i know you said you didnt know if it would work so i decided to test it because i wanted the combo. it didnt work. it would boot and then reboot by itself. i recovered into a rom that didnt have black froyo then flashed your mod again, works perfectly with obsidian v3. it looks good and im looking forward to the metamorph to see if that will work with black froyo mod. thanks.
Definitely get this into a metamorph so people don't lose other framework mods and so it can be used with other ROMs.
i'm loving this, works great on Axura 2.0.4
Please make a metamorph for this. Flashing zip wouldn't work with the black froyo theme from Samcrow. Any ways looks awesome, Thank You!

I doubt I've done something wrong, I think....lol Any help?
This is not a full theme it takes a lot of the orange colors out of eclipse .2.2 and replaces them with blue colors on menus, selections ect... It adds a cool battery guage in the statusbar as well an newer green signal wifi and a nice blue bluetooth icon. Its pretty basic no wallpapers or icons just themes system pretty much. I made it for my phone and it looks pretty cool.
NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE TO PHONE...
Thanks to UOT kitchen for help on statusbar and TheMuffStuff for his Blue Blur theme which i used parts of for a base.
just flash zip in clockwork recovery...wipe cache first.
Recommend nandroid backup before just in case...
Use only on Eclipse V.2.2 Rom ONLY
Screen Shots? And thanks for the 2.2 support. Thought I was the only one.

No problem.. 2.2 works better for me...
Mobile link has been fixed....
O.K. Boys & Girls. Here we go. This Theme was made from Simply Stock for Simply Stock. If you flash over Simply Honey 5.1 you will meet Odin! If you download and/or flash this and you get a paperweight...you knew the risk...
Much Thanks go to Explodingboy70 & Perka.
there is very little ICS in TS II yes, like everyone else there is some.
made mild changes in music.apk "colors blend better"
still working on the gmail.apk, launch icon changed.
DID NOT really change systemui.apk...maybe in an update?
anyway there are more .apk edits. some are done some are not.
If you did download Twisted Stock 1.0 then download Twisted Stock II...I did make some updates, I can't help myself...
download.................................
Flash through GREEN RECOVERY
reboot.....................................

U want screenies, U got screenies. seriously thanks for checking it out
I just slipstreamed Twisted Stock II files in to Simply Stock and the only annoying bug I have found is that the battery isn't 1% intervals. For instances I have 83% battery and the battery icon is stuck on 100. I like some of the new icons you have introduced but I would recommend changing the wifi icon on notification bar. I find the wifi word in it distracting and cheesy looking. Maybe just clean up the wifi icon and remove the wifi word. I would also prefer the colored segmented 1% battery. This circle one looks cheesy. The phone and my files icons definitely needs replaced with something cleaner and more professional imho. I would also like to see all transparent menus as we as transparent dropdown notification bar and blue notification widget buttons. I really don't like any of the dropdown widget icons either. They don't look right with the theme and make it look cheap and scattered. I absolutely loved the icon sets from splash of color and vibranthd themes. If you could integrate some of those and the changes above you would make this the best color theme ever. By the way the roboto font from ics looks amazing with this theme and all other roms and themes. Of course all of this is my opinion and I'm anal when it comes to themes. I really appreciate your hard work and I hope you consider my opinion. Have you thought about doing a full ICS clone theme with accurate segmented or honeycomb battery. Now that would be beautiful! I was running cm7 with ics cm7 theme v1.2 modded with honeycomb accurate battery and ics lock and is beautiful and smooth on the latest cm7 nightly with robotic font. I'm glad google got away from the ugly gingerbread green and went with that blue color!
