Ok not looking to get flamed on this question. If I posted it in the wrong area I apologize. I'm not asking for it to be made just wonder with all of the requirements needed to run gingerbread will the Eris ever see even a modified version of gingerbread? Thanks in advance

The possibility of it being ported are there, but I wouldnt hold my breath. If the source is released, I'm sure someone will try to port it, but it might not go too well.
I've heard rumors that Gingerbread will actually be 2.3, not 3.0. Maybe that gives us some hope.
The requirements are still the same.

Despite what this post says, I do not believe that those are requirements; I think that they are recommendations, which is different.
See this and then this.
The real answer, though, is that nobody knows until it's officially announced and released.
Well I seen somewhere that it was supposed to be released in October. But you see how well that went lol. But with all the requirements that come with it I wouldn't be surprised if this would the death of the Eris development but that's my 2 cents

I wouldn't expect Eris development to die until two years after it was discontinued.

Looks like a number of Sense-based phones have been or will shortly be upgraded to 2.2. Any of our great devs looking into this? I'd be more interested in a Sense-Based 2.2 Rom than what we have currently. No offense to all of you. I'm currently running CELB Froyo and love it. I really like Sense and the HTC components as well.
Thanks.
Careful, I asked the exact same question (when the desire 2.2 with sense was posted) and got reported for it.

I remember that now. I was trying to recall what your question was. I hope I don't get in trouble. Just looking for something that isn't currently offered.
Thanks.
Quick question... whyd you get reported? Pm me if you can't say why on here.

Yeah I remember that also. Some dude with 10 posts thought he was a big man on campus.

This is all I wrote, and I was reported immediately by several users:
I know it's possible now since there are Desire and Incredible ROMs running Sense on Froyo, so I'd be very happy if a developer could figure out how to port one of those to the Eris. Obviously they're different screen resolutions (and the Desire is GSM instead of CDMA), but it must be possible. Thank you in advance!

Whaddya think...
Dare I go over there and ask the devs if it would be possible to have a Froyo ROM that will play nice with a partitioned SD card?
(Not to run apps2sd, which is partly irrelevant in 2.2, but just to ease the process of flip-flopping back and forth between 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs)

In all honesty I think that out very possible. I might be talking out of my butt though. One possibility would be to take the HTC stuff and port it to froyo. It could be intresting to see what could happen.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
thenestor that's absolutely ridiculous that you were reported... people are crazy sometimes.
Anyway when an HTC phone gets sense officially it will get ported I'm sure.
But that has happened. I don't recall the models but there has been a couple already upgraded officially.

senseui
Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks to me that the best chance for a FroYo w/ senseui rom lies in porting senseui from one of the mytouch3g devices as they are running the same resolution and 16-bit color.... Since this is the only phone 'officially' slated for upgrade it looks to be the most promising avenue.
The most exciting aspect of senseui imo.... FlashLite... by far the most missed feature in the 2.2 roms IMO

I don't want to ask that question either, but I do. I reboot too much for Froyo a2sd. I love the roms but I'd love to see a cyanogen a2sd. Add that to the now working camera and you've got a perfect daily use rom.

That was already attempted, and from what I can tell it has/had more bugs then Gingerbread currently does.
Plus compared to GB I can only imagine how slow it would be, especially with Sense. >.<

Actually sense 2.2 on the eris has proven to be very fast, and this is 2.2.2. We've only seen roms ported for the Eris that were 2.2, so this might be something to look at

Yeah if 2.2 w/ Sense is ever ported to the Eris, it will have to be a device with similar or the same resolution screen and I think that is also ARMv6.
The Aria/Gratia is a little faster than the Eris but still ARMv6.

My point is GB is considerably faster, and it's quite noticeable too. Since most of the devs right now are focused on Gingerbread, I doubt (don't quote me on this) they'll "step back" to Sense 2.2. You could always try these though, they'll probably the closest you'll get. :/

Actually there are devs working on Sense 2.2 still and trying to get some bugs worked out. I believe the OP was probably hoping to give them something that might be of some assistance to them. Just because some others may not be interested or not want it doesn't mean it's necessary to give the guy a hard time about it. Some people like Sense while others like Vanilla. Some like Froyo and some feel GB is rather ugly. To each his own...

Okay quite honestly i didnt post this so people could point me in the right direction to their own knowledge, i know all about the Sense 2.2 ports, ive tried porting some myself, and like CondemedSoul said, im just trying to see what we could do with this port. My main point of interest was the fact that its 2.2.2 for the Aria and not the stupid Gratia that gave us all that Go market crap, which was also just 2.2, this is a higher version. I know the same things wont wont, like the camera, but it was just a thought. You guys dont need to act like im some noob

No problem. I personally wouldn't mind seeing a nice 2.2 sense rom myself. Options are always good to have and apparently it seems that a lot of people don't even realize that there's still a lot of people that still run 2.1 roms.... but why would they want to do that when we have gingerbread now? lol

lol im still running 2.1 with Sense, Villain Rom for the Hero FTW
There's many things I liked about CM6 ROMs, but after three or four months using several of them, I went back to xtrSENSE v4.6.5 (a 2.1 ROM for those who don't know) a few weeks ago. I'll probably stick with it until CM7 reaches a final release, then I'll give one or more of the CM7 ROMs a serious look.
But if a 2.2 Sense ROM becomes totally useable (all features working), then I would definitely try that, too.
does anyone know roughly when we are getting the official Android 2.2 or 2.3? I am curious...if its not any time soon, then I'll probably just root it and flash it myself. let me know. thanks
I work for verizon and just got an email, it will officially launch the 77th of Nevuary...
J/k
No one knows, I do work for big red and can tell you theres been no talk that I have caught wind of. You're best off flashing yourself. Why wait for an ota update when theres a few options that are a lot faster and cool than any official release will ever be.

I really loved Samsung's hardware over every other thing out there. But their lack of updating has made HTC my next go to Android.
Better stock UI, unlocked bootloader, and by far faster at getting updates out. Plus cyanogenMod works on like every HTC device and that looks really nice.
Can't believe sammy f'ed up this bad on their galaxy s phones. Especially considering how many were sold.
Just root, there's barely a chance that we're going to see an official update.
With accessories sold that require 2.2 to fully function, of course there will be an official update. Why do people not understand that?
This really sucks...I was hoping to hear some good news. The upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 was definitely a noticeable improvement on the droid. I suppose I'll have to root it now.

Thought I'd jump in before the lock. I was running 2.3 on my eris just fine and it also never received a official 2.2 update.(thanks kaos)
To answer the ops question, no one knows when it will be released.
Just root and flash sc 2.9.1
At this point the only thing the offical release will give us is source for better kernal mods

First of all...wrong forum.
Second of all...if you couldn't find any, obviously it means there are none.
I'm just going to be harsh about it because this is one of the most ignorant threads started.
Before the wolves tear this one apart, this would be a good Q&A subforum thread. Since everything is based on a 2.3.4 beta, which has only recently been available, there really won't be any final releases for another few weeks, I'd imagine.
Edit: I type too slow
For future reference... how can there be compelte ROMs if theyre based on an incomplete release?

look at dalingrin's twitter for updates.
If you're wondering about ICS on the touchpad...look at dalingrin's twitter posts.
If you're looking for CM9, all i know is they've released a pre-alpha version of the launcher from CM9 for Devices with ICS....how far that puts them down the line to finishing it? I do not know but i'm waiting too (impatiently)
Here is the official source of CM news:

I would imagine any general news on CM9 will be all over once its out. I saw the news on the launcher in at least 3 different sites within hours of the announcement.

Agreed Leo and Scott are doing a great job at developing cm7/MIUI to work on a tablet as best it can.. But it is almost a lost cause since ics is already on a lot of devices....
I'm sure modifying a kanged ROM is a lot easier than making a port/SDK ROM as a lot of the drivers have to be made from scratch... I've given up on android on the TP till ICS. When that happens ill donate a handsome reward to the team that does it.. till then... WebOS will have to do... As I only use it for media/web I'm good for now... I have a EVO 3d for apps and such that android excels in...
