Hi,
Is there a way to turn off auto suggesting words?
Every time i type something, above the firs line of keys are suggesting words. I can normaly type everything because i have turned off auto compete, but i would like not to have these words because i dont need that.
Is there a way to turn that off like in android keyboard? (show suggestions - unchek)
PS i have 2.2 so it is not sense keyboard, but android keyboard
The whole idea of this keyboard is preetty much the funtion you intend to turn off, i do not believe there is such option, nor why should there be one

Thank you for the answer !
I didnt know that because I am now searching for keyboard that is simple (like in sence), but have all those special characters like !"#$%&/()=? and numbers by long press.
Is there such a simple keyboard with it and without word suggesting (so keyboard like SwiftKey but without suggesting)?
im sorry i dont know another like that.. but ill give the thread a bump
maybe some1 else can jump in

i've been using virusROM RC1B3.1 almost exclusively for about a month now, and bouncing between ADW EX and LauncherPro Plus (leankernel normal 1.41).
at one point i was able to set the time required to presshold a keyboard button before it toggled, but i've lost that ability.
also, i changed the keyboard from GB to stock (or something similar), but am now unable to change back because there is no prefs button on the keyboard.
so there're my problems, now here're my questions:
where do those issues lie? in the ROM? in the launcher? in the keyboard package (and is that called the apk?)?
aaaand, is this something i can repair on the phone or am i gonna hafta finally set aside a saturday to learn adb?
thanks in advance!
No ideas? Nobody?
Cmon folks, I won't be a n00b forever
Hold on any text input screen and select input method. Then choose the keyboard you want to use.

Thanks button: smacked. along with my forehead. Can't believe I missed such a basic function.
Makes me wonder how much other easy stuff I'm looking right past.
Thanks again
Ok I just downloaded Go keyboard, added greek to it, it is pretty neat, but there is one nasty annoying thing that drives me crazy: Whenever I start texting someone, T9 is enabled and caps is off... Can someone help me in making it default the keyboard with T9 off and Caps always on? (yes, I like to be a shouting person in my SMS) Thanks in advance!

you can go to setting is enable/disable t9 mode. as far as caps are concerned you will have to take the pain to long press caps button everytime
im currently using thumb keyboard when just using the tablet and the auto complete/correct works great. however, when i use the physical keyboard, i cant get any kind of autocomplete or correct to work, it just leaves word misspelled and underlines them. is there any way i can have autocorrect function when the physical keyboard is being used?
thanks

unfortunately, when prime is being used with dock or even with Bluetooth keyboard, prime stops auto-correct. The only keyboard app that still has auto-capitalize and auto-correct option is Smart Keyboard Pro. but it doesn't recognize shift key on prime dock, so you can't use !()?: keys.
I just hope Smart Keyboard Pro fixes this issue asap.
use swiftkey works fine with dock.
Or ~.~
you could just learn to type better? :] not trying to start anything i promise you but i don't truly see a great reason for the autocorrect on a physical keyboard? Maybe for bigger words but this is where our human brains should push ourselves to think. :] I mean I'm not saying it wouldn't be a nice feature. But Party on! TFP ROOTED!

Have you ever thought about that people are not always typing in their native language and that correction can be a good Help?
For me exempel, My language is Swedish and for that I don't need predictions or correction. But when on XDA and i had to write in English the correction and predictions comes in use. I know what I want to type but don't know exactly how it's its spells. So I just type how it sounds in my head and gets predictions on what I trying to write.
Think it's helps everyone, the grammar is fick up but atlest the words is correctly. And it make it easier for everybody to understand what I trying to say.
And for the keyboard I think "Swiftkey Tablet X" does a good job with the dock.. You get a little line on the bottom of your screen with the predictions and suggestions.

All buttons work, Haven't find any problems. Shift !()?: keys works as i should

very good point made. english speakers should take note. but in truth, it is harder for me to check the ''correction'' bar than it is to backspace when i see a mistake. i guess thats just the habit of using a physical keyboard for years on pcs
just wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone has a solution yet, as i havent found anything that addresses my original problem
As title suggests, I updated my phone yesterday. Now, when typing, if I spell something wrong, instead of changing automatically when I press space, it doesnt change the word, even though its highlighted blue. Is this a bug or feature and its very annoying ane may force me to flash back to older version. I cant see any options in the settings menu like before, just new options to sync spelling with facebook and Twitter etc... thanks for help.
Works fine for me
There are no more options anymore in settings for predictive text. You use to be able to edit your own words and specific predictive text data but your cant edit anything now so unsure what to do. Im sure I have read else where others having the same problems?
mine is also doin the same thing. Also noticed it no longer gives you the option to change the full stop to something else without holding
gotta be a bug. why highlight in blue if it no longer has a function anything? This is going to be very annoying.
It's what made me stop using the Samsung keyboard, prediction only seems to work when you use continuous input (swype) but even with that enabled, if you tap out each letter it will not work.
Glad its not just me anyway!
Meh, Android 4.2 keyboard rocks
I like the the way the keyboard behaves now. I can type my words without the auto correcting putting in the wrong words for me inadvertently and not having problems putting in words the the prediction doesn't know about.
I will also confirm that after updating to 4.1.2 stock - the auto-correct/predictive text system in the stock samsung keyboard seems to be no longer functioning correctly.
When typing the words are highlighted in blue however upon hitting space the word isn't corrected

+1. That's the main reason I now use Samsung keyboard. If I want it to auto correct I just select on the word.

never bothered with stock Android keyboards or Samsung's effort at "continuous text input" (well I gave it 5 minutes and kicked it into touch).
There is only one keyboard for continuous text input, and why would you want to tap letters individually any way? - its called Swype...its an absolute MUST.
google it, go to website and download swype beta installer
You guys are right, auto correct has been disabled in 4.1.2. I'm really hoping it's re enabled for the next release because I've never been a fan of aftermarket keyboards. I prefer the stock one. I would downgrade to 4.1.1 but I was getting some bugs on that which have been fixed on 4.1.2. Let's all hope it's re enabled for us!
Same problem here and I hate it. I've now switched to SwiftKey because of it.

Same here. VERY ANNOYING! Why change something fundamental on the keyboard in this way? It's awful.
Regardless of what your keyboard preference is, you become accustomed to using it and it's ways until you can almost type blindfolded. Making changes like this just bugs the hell out of me!
Response from Samsung support in 2 hours :good:
I think I'll be trying Swift Key...

Thank you for contacting Samsung.
I am sorry to hear that you do not like the features on the keypad since the latest update and i can understand it is frustrating.
Regarding your query this is a limitation of the new android version your running. However we always look forward to hearing customer feedback and comments.
I've passed your comments on to various departments who will use them to improve the products and services we offer. Thank you for your input.

I don't think it's anything to do with Android, Mr. Samsung!

did switching over fix your problem??
what other keyboards out there can help fix this bug until next patch?
Hello,
i googled for quite some time now, but I couldn't find ANY answer. So I guess this is not possible but I thought I can ask here. Maybe someone knows something.
Is it possible, while typing with the stock android keyboard (Jelly Bean) to switch to the Numpad? I've uploaded two pictures to make things clear.
In the first pic you see the normal android keyboard. In the second one you see the numpad, but which only occurs if the text field only allows numerical input. What I want is to switch from the normal keyboard to the numerical one.
Example:
I am writing a note (in my fav. note app) or a sms. In this note/sms I type some longer Numbers (wlan-key, phone number, birthday... you name it). This is when I want to switch to the numpad, because I cannot describe how much I hate to input numbers when they are not in a 3x3 grid (like a numpad).
In the stock Android Keyboard, when I press the number button (bottom left) the numbers appear in a ROW on the top. I honestly don't get how people can type numbers with this.... It would drive me crazy. I could talk hours about how much i hate it. But I want to keep this kind of short
Swype has this feature: either hold the numbers key next to the swype button. Or swype from the swype-key to the t and the numpad appears. Really nice!
I was just wondering if something like this is possible for the Android keyboard.
greetings
PS: I tried a lot of different keyboards and only swype had both: swype input and numpad. Why? I think a numpad for numerical input is the best way to go. I really don't get why you want it any other way.
I dont know about the stock key board but swiftkey keyboard can also put the numbers in a 3x3 grid...although partially . I am attaching a screen shot
Hope this helped

Thank you for your reply. I forgot about SwiftKey. Last time I've tried it, something bothered me, but I cannot remember what it was. Maybe I give it another try.
But still I am curious about the stock keyboard. Because I refuse to believe they did not implement this feature, since I think it is quite essential. And when it comes to choosing a keyboard, it's a deal breaker for me.
