[Q] File Transfer Issues - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After installing the Obsidian v2 I have had issues with transferring files. I have a Mac OS, I am able to mount my phone no problem, just like I have in the past.
However, now that I try to move files on and off my computer and phone I am getting Error Reports like below, and not letting me do anything. I have Fixed Permissions, Wiped Cache Partition, Wiped Dalvik Partition and still not working. Any one have any ideas? And don't post foolish things like for me to get a PC.
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “Vibrant_AOSPish_JK2_v1.1.zip” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)
*This does this for ALL files not just the above mentioned.

As a temporary fix try wifi file explorer in the market, if you have a router. It costs a dollar but allows you to transfer files over you wifi, through your internet browser.
Friends don't let friends flash drunk...

you could try something like ubuntu live cd. you don't have to actually install the os. when win7 was giving me the same problem, ubuntu worked just fine.
or you can download a new rom directly to your phone.

Good call I'll check it out. You said "as a temporary fix"? So is this a problem across the board with the 2.2 ROMs out? How can I get the permanent fix?

I've had my g-Tab all of a week. I got it through Circuit City. The "application crashes" I learned are called "Force Close." Through the forum I found the solutions. I'd learned I needed the updated ROM and wanted Honeycomb. So this ROM seemed the best. I like the ROM as I've used it most of the day. I agree with the comment about soft keys because in the dark it's hard to see the keys on the bezel. The bugs I encounter are frustrating but, I've found solutions here in the forum. I'm new to Android on so many levels. This is my first Android device. So now I'm stuck.
All I wanted to do was transfer the files I have on my HTC Touchpro to my Tab. (For the 3rd Time.)(I've been through Stock ROM's and Mods several times over.) In reading I know I can't set an Adhoc WiFi tether. I also know I need the right App to transfer a file from the PC to the Tab via bluetooth or something.
So now I tried the USB file transfer. Of course it went into Debug mode. I tried some of the solutions for getting transfer mode operating but, that wasn't successful. I figured the SDCardFix solves this problem. So Tjohnsonjr says to push the file into the system/etc. folder. How would this be done?
You mean copy onto an SDcard Ext from the PC and then mount onto the gTab?
For some reason I can't even get my card to be read by the PC (I formatted it using the G-Tab command. Now when I put in my PC the explore window hangs.)
Use a bluetooth transfer? All I get is my Tab trying to use my PC as a headset. I can push a file from the Tab to the PC but, I' haven't figured the reverse.
BTW I thought I might have "bricked" the tab twice. I used CWMod to wipe cache, data, system and set the new partition. Since all of the files were on the internal SDcard the partition wiped the update.zip and command files. The reboot eventually started functioning and it pulled up "something...dirty....3388"
So obviously somewhere in the system there is still an OM android system ROM. (I think I'd like to hang onto that.)
BTW: the error reads:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 0)
Installation aborted.
Well I hope tjohnsonjr gets this. He's put a lot of work into this ROM. But since the xda-developers won't let me post into the Developer's forum he probably won't. (Too much of a noob).
PS I know some have critiqued the gTab because of it's size. Well for a man who can't see too well that's great. The biggest problem I have with my HTC Touchpro right now is the screen is too small to read the fine print without reading glasses. If I ever figure out how to get the wifi tether working between these two devices. I'd have the perfect solution to several of my problems.
UPdate.zip=SDcardFix.zip
I changed the file name to see if that would make a difference. I was desperate.
try going back to stock rom and then installing. I had a similar problem, and I used nvFlash to go back to stock, then reinstall cwm and repartitioned, cleared data/cache etc.
Installed after doing all that and it worked like a charm.
[Q] [ROM-AOSP]G-Harmony Gingerbread 2.3.3 with Honeycomb elements(UPDATED 4/17)
TJ posted an update to his ROM. The fix to the USB works by renaming the EMMC to the external SDcard per the posts seen on this website. So if you backed up apps and data to the ext SDcard it is now listed under the emmc directory. The SDcard is the internal memory. Not sure how that's going to work when pushing apps and data to the external card. (See forum posts discussing this workaround for the situation for all ROM's.) The USB connection now works for transferring files onto the GTab. Use a file manager for pushing from internal memory to the external SDCard.
The Adhoc Wifi connection seems to work. Meaning I got my cellphone and gTab to connect to one another however, I was unable to get the gTab to connect to the internet via the cellphone. (I'm using an HTC Touchpro on Sprint. I've never gotten the wifi hotspot to function properly but, I'm experimenting with WMWIFIRouter.)
Thanks to TJ for all of the hardwork on this ROM.

Android USB File Transfer - Major Problems

This is one of the strangest problems I have ever encountered, so be prepared to be stumped.
I have many android devices, as you can see in my sig. Lately, I have been having problems with pulling files off of all of my devices., Here's what happens.
Say I use mybackup pro. I create a backup of my apps and their data on 9-6-2013. Then I create one on 9-7-2013. If I plug in my device on 9-8-2013, and attempt to copy the 2 backups I made, not all of the files will transfer to my computer.
Guessing that the files are corrupt or something, I deleted them. I create a new backup on 9-8-2013. HOWEVER, when I plug the device back into my computer (doesn't matter which machine), Explorer still shows me the OLD files that I deleted off of the device! It appears that something is caching my device's filesystem but I cannot clear that cache or refresh the device's content list.
This happens with all of my computers and all. of my Android devices. The only similarity is that I am running Windows 7. That's it.
Can someone help me please diffuse this problem?

Ah did some more digging around. It appears it's this known bug.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=38282
Solution for now is to reboot before using MTP to copy files off the tablet. Simple enough workaround for now.
Thank you for the reply, even if the thread was necro'd, Lol! At least I finally got an answer

[Q] ADB cannot push/mkdir/cp a file to extSdCard

Hi people, I have looked around and haven't found anything to do with adb not letting any editing to the extSdCard whatsoever (without root)
I want to be able to use
Code:
adb push "C:\whatever.txt" /storage/extSdCard/
and actually work. everytime I do this it gives me:
Code:
failed to copy 'C:\whatever.txt /storage/extSdCard/whatever.txt': Permission denied
I have not got superuser privileges and made this thread for those who do not have it. PLEASE do NOT post anything to do with busybox or su, your efforts will be in vain.
Thanks in advance

No, it's not. The Kit Kat SD card deal is only for 3rd party apps on the phone for writing to the SD card. http://www.androidcentral.com/kitkat-sdcard-changes . Has nothing to do with adb.
There are tons of people through the past few years that have this "trouble" for various phones and many versions of android. Often times it does just not work. Are you certain that the external is at /storage/extSDcard? Sometimes you have to do this as well:
adb push somefile.zip /storage/extSDcard/somefile.zip
What phone do you have? Why to the external and not internal and then just use a file manager to swap it over? Or use an external card reader. Or wifi file transfer.

my phone's details are in my signature.
I do push to the internal since i cant push to external. my external is called sdcard1 by the system. The reason for pushing to external is that it is 16GB compared to 8GB internal (5GB usuable)
Why can't you just transfer via MTP or wifi file transfer?

I have an automatic script which moves files to the phone/installs them if apk file etc. MTP sucks big time and wifi can be slow/not available

Never really had issues with MTP. I work on phones for a living and have owned many (see list in sig) and use 3 different PCs - Win XP, Win 7, and Win 8.1 and MTP works right 99% of time for me on - you name it - HTC, Samsung, Sony, LG, etc etc. Have rooted/modded/upgraded/fixed 100s of devices and pretty much all of them I have to use MTP these days. *shrug*
If you have the ability to wifi tether, you can tether to your device and send files that way too. It's as fast/reliable as your data connection at that point though. I'm lucky enough to live in an area where I have a good signal almost always and have unlimited data so this option works great for me too. Your results may vary.
i forgot to mention i am in a no signal zone. so wifi is not an option. i dont mean mtp does not work, but i feel it is sluggish and has flaws, while my script has none. do you want my script?
basically it is a drag and drop batch file, and if the dropped file is an apk, it installs it. if the file is a mp3, video etc it moves it to a corresponding folder, and if the extension is not recognised, it offers to move the file to downloads. only flaw it has is that it needs editing to work on a phone that names the internal sd something else, which can be changed with an easy find/replace

[Q] Hosts file corrupt?

Hello everyone,
I use an LG Optimus L4 II (e445). I rooted it but then decided I had too much on it and decided to restore to factory settings. It all worked fine. However, when I got to the Google Account sign in page, it gave me the "couldn't establish a reliable connection to the server" error message. I followed every single tutorial I could find online as to how to solve this. None of them worked. Eventually, I re-rooted it (using VRoot) and managed to download an apk of ES file explorer and locate the hosts file. This had one line that shouldn't have been there:
127.234.104.240 android.clients.google.com
From what I can make out, this is the address of google's sign in servers. So somehow (I suspect malware/dodgy rooting program?) my hosts file has been edited to stop me logging into google. Restoring the device does nothing, neither does unrooting/rerooting. When I open up the file in ES (when rooted) and edit out the bad lines, I can't save for some reason- I think the /system folder is write protected.
So I tried to make the /system folder writeable. I used the android sdk to do this (mount -o command) but this did not do anything. I downloaded the mount /system apk and installed that, it did not help either. I tried /pull and /push on the hosts file to edit it and send it back using the apk. I could successfully pull and edit it, but it would not let me push it back. I'm kind of stuck here. I can effectively not use my phone- I can't use most apps and can't download any, and have no other solutions up my sleeve. Any ideas?
Thanks a lot,
Louis

After trying for a few weeks now, I've still had no success. One idea has come to me though- installing a rom. Would downloading a custom ROM change my hosts file? Also, if so, could anyone recommend one that is similar to default android? One last idea that I've got at the moment is sonehow completely wiping the hard drive of the phone and reinstalling androud on it, though I have no idea whether that is even possible, and if so, how to do it. I would really appreciate some help here!
Thanks again,
Louis
After reading, I can only talk as one who knows less than you.
Let me say this from the start.
Root=/= unlock bootloader
Find a way to unlock boot loader first, with a Google search.
Use fastboot to flash a recovery (.IMG) made for your phone. fastboot is something like adb.
Let's just say that that is more complicated than rooting. It gave me a headache at first.
_______/
Pertaining to your problem, how about a reflash of the system image?
The official lg mobile support tool may help you with this.
Search for your phone model on the lg support page, look under manuals and downloads, then under software update.

I'm not entirely sure I understand you here, but I'll try. What would unlocking the bootloader do to my phone? Would it enable r/w on the system folder? Also, what is a reflash of the system image? How would I do that?
I'll try these things if I can, but would still appreciate help.
Look around on http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Basic_concepts?
It should give you some info in flashing and unlocking.
It can give people quite a headache, with all those terms.
________
As for the part under the line, I'm talking about a restoring of the phone to the default state via official methods.
Instructions would be given by the official support programme.

Ok, so from what I can work out, cyanogen does not support my device. Would doing it for a similar device work? Are there any ROMs that support my device?
under the line, restoring the phone via the official ways actually just wipes the user data, not including the HOSTS file which is what I need to wipe. What I really need it is basically a ROM that completely wipes my phone and reinstalls some version of android.
Any other ideas?
While there may not be official support for a phone for a custom ROM, you may be able to find unofficial ports/versions if you search for it in the forums.
From what I know, a system reinstall via official methods wipes data and almost everything else, then downloads from its servers system files to be installed to the phone. At least, my phone was reverted to a stock ROM when I restored it after using a custom ROM. It may be different for some, but generally, this is what I think.
Important: only use a ROM made for your device model only, do not use the ones made for a similar phone, the small differences are no longer small in this case and will cause a system error(?)
Generally, once you have successfully unlocked boot loader using a method for your phone, the instructions afterwards are generally the same for all phones. You'll be able to get better answers in the threads specifically for your phone, so try to look for one and look for the already tried methods,

[Q] [ACER E380]SD Card inaccessible as root, but fine as regular user

Hello,
I have bought an Acer E380 about two months ago, and I rooted it two days later.
It was (afair*) always on 4.4.2, and I never had problems with it.
But about a week ago, I installed the popcorntime app from the official said website (Horrible app, torrent downloader is slow and often breaks, if you restart your phone the 'checking files...' goes on forever,...) and said app, that was downloading a file, crashed and would not let me restart a download because of "insufficient space".
I tried deleting said file, unusable but full size, thanks to that useless torrent client, and it kept coming back.
I could not edit the SD card files from another computer with linux, and windows would straight out not recognize it.
After wiping it with gParted, it worked fine on both windows and linux, but android started screwing with my root.
Some apps like linux deploy would not be able to write, impossible to copy a file from the phone's memory to the card, and much more...
But it strangely worked fine with "normal" apps without root access!
After opening a terminal, I made a quick dummy file and tried to copy it to sdcard0, worked fine.
I then tried to proceed the exact same way with superuser rights, and it threw some Endpoint errors as well as just "Read-Only Filesystem"
Does anyone knows what's going on, and how can I fix this mess?
