Wifi Calling on Third-party SIM - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this possible? I'm currently overseas and using a third-party SIM card. The Wifi Calling app has a block on it that prevents you from using a third party SIM, but is there actually a reason why it WOULDN'T work if we could find a way to get around TMOs block? Maybe someone could mod the application?
What do you think???

I think it's likely that other companies don't support UMA calling, which means it wouldn't work. I haven't actually seen many cell providers that let you do Wifi calls. The app is probably hard coded with T-Mobiles information, so even somehow getting rid of the block wouldn't help you, as it would still try to connect through T-Mobile.

[Q] How do I use my Vibrant for gps and wifi while avoiding roaming related charges when in Canada or another country?
[A] this is the question I asked support at t-mobile. I got 2 answers, neither were completely correct. The problem is that you cannot block IMs and phone calls from reaching your mobile unless you go into airplane mode. (Note that you will receive charges for IMs and for calls you do not pick up as long as they register on your phone. This is what I was told by one rep. Other reo said that I should not be able to receive these since my account was not set up for international services, but as msgs and calls came in, I got worried.)
The short of it is this: for $20, I bought CoPilot off the android market and downloaded the North America maps. This app does not require data connection, and it works remarkably well. I then put the phone into air plane mode. After doing this, I enabled gps and wifi. This allowed me block all direct calls and IMs while retaining the ability the ability to use the phone for gps and for browsing when there was an available wifi network. (having a google voice account actual enabled me to send IMs when connected to a wifi network.)
It all worked so well, I am further considering dropping my data plan altogether since the places I typically use the internet are places with wifi (though perhaps I will wait until the 2.2 update is pushed.)

In terms of GPS, you are correct, you would have to purchase a third party GPS app for that (since google maps doesn't cache. Well it does, but if you find yourself lost after choosing a route and don't have wifi available then you are forced to turn on data so it can redownload your route, since it only caches your route and nearby streets.) To block incoming phone calls you just set up unconditional call forwarding (**21*18056377243# send) which will forward all of your calls to VoiceMail. The 1805 number can be replaced with your VM provider of choice (ie Google voice.) To undo, just dial ##21# and send. After that just disable data roaming and you are good.
In terms of stopping IM/SMS/MMS, just have care add message blocking (or better yet, go to your tmobile account and add it from there) its a free service that blocks all incoming or outgoing sms/mms/email as sms/IM. Sometimes the reps will just add the sms/mms block so you might want to add it yourself from the site.
Also if you purchased the vibrant on a contract then you can't remove your data.

Or if you want to keep the FULL functionality of your phone while traveling internationally you could buy a prepaid SIM for a carrier in the country you're visiting.

If you did not want to get a SIM, you could just take your t-mo sim out. This way you could still use wifi, then use Google voice for texts and VM.

(Wanted) Wifi Calling app for non US Defy owners

From my understanding, the wifi calling app from US Tmobile only works for US Tmobile customers, correct me if i'm wrong.
Is there any way to import this app to another region Defy (mines from UK) and get it working on any network?

No because no UK Networks support it.
I have a Fritz!Box Wlan DSL router from AVM.
This thing is absolutely cool as they provide an app to make/receive
calls over wifi. (FritzFon App)
You can route analog/ISDN/Voip telephone lines to the Defy over Wifi.
If your normal phone rings, your Defy rings also
The Fritz!Box routers are popular in germany, don't know in what other countries
they are sold.

Yeah, this is a great App! Maybe I'll try the VPN option, since it would be a great way to get around call forwarding.
BTW: The app is working great with a FB 7170 as well as with FB 7390
How about Skype?
Or for that matter, Google Voice? http://www.google.com/mobile/voice/

Actually, Orange supports UMA in the UK.
Not sure if the T-Mobile USA wi-fi app would work with it though - maybe trying to get ahold of a compatible app from an Orange-branded Android handset would be a better bet.
Of course, that doesn't help anyone on any of the other UK networks.

where can i get the apk for the wifi calling?
Just get Sipdroid from the Market. You can register it with any sip server (in my case Voipbuster so I can make calls to many countries for virtually nothing, and people from Holland can call me on my Dutch 'landline' number no matter where I am ). The program integrates in the dialer and you can set it to automatic or manual. I set it so that every time I put a # at the end of a number it uses voip. Works great over wifi. Haven't tried calling over 2G yet. No 3G available here.
For SIP VoIP, CSIPSimple has more codec support than SIPDroid which may or may not be important for some people. Depends on the internet reliability and speeds which are available to you.
But because of how SIP works, there are still some niggling issues with battery life in some configurations as it needs to keep alive a connection in order to receive calls. Personally I'm only using it to dial out to landlines on demand at a cheaper rate than mobile.
Sipdroid works quite well over 3G as does Skype. 2G is rather pushing it but some claim they have had decent results. Both of them use quite a lot of juice though.
The main problem with Sipdroid is lack of echo cancelation so should help to use a headset. Skype is a lot better in that regard

[Q] Atrix with no data plan and pre paid voice?

Guys I'm totally new to smartphones so I need an advise. I would like to buy myself Moto Atrix but I don't want to buy a data plan for it. I plan on using Rogers pay-as-you-go voice sim card and use wifi for data. Is that even possible on the smartphone? Also I plan on using this phone in europe so question is would a pre paid voice sim work on this phone in europe? Oh and one more question if the voice sim with wifi for data would work would I be able to use all the internet apps on the phone or some would not work over wifi?
Thanks for your time
It is possible and a great way to save money. As long as rogers supports quad band GSM and not CMDA (like verizon), then you can use the voice and texting features of this phone all you wish.
Some things to note:
The phone must be unlocked and have some kind of wifi connection established to set up a motoblur account, (buy a used one not a new one).
Google Maps and navigation will not work unless you can find some kind of cacheing program.
Voice actions will not work, they require the google servers to process your voice.
Rogers may decide to change your service manually if they are like At&t. Check out other GSM networks if they try to do this to you.
Thanks for a quick reply. Now why should I buy a used phone? I think right now new/used prices are close. Also would google maps work in a wifi hotspot? I know that I can't use it unless I'm in the wifi hotspot. The same thing with voice commands souldn't they work as long as I'm in the wifi hotspot? I plan on using CoPilot software on the phone so I guess I wouldn't need any data connection for that right?
Thanks
If you are in a wifi hotspot, your phone will work identically to a phone with a data plan. You must buy it used because to activate moto blur initially, you must have a data connetion (data plan) to sign in, or else it wont let you continue (You cannot enable wifi yet).
Oh I didn't know about motoblur account. Is there a way around that by rooting the phone? What about using my firends sim with data to do that?
I think the process fails and then it'll ask you if you want to connect via wifi..no need for a data connection..

No it's not true. I signed up a motoblur account over the WiFi. I bought mine at costco.com as an upgrade to my original ATT HTC Fuze and I do not have a data plan.
Sean
you can make a blur account on the internet from a real computer
Just add data and quit being cheap. They make basic phones for people who don't see the value in paying for internet.

[Q] VOIP blocked - Any help.

I don't know whether I should ask it here or shouldn't.....i was very happy doing VOIP on my Vibrant.....now suddenly my company has blocked VOIP also none of the messenger's are getting log in...
Only my phone's Gtalk is working...but no VOIp. is there a VOIP application which can bypass this blocking. I tried several application from Market...but none seems working.
My sip provider is NYMGO (www.nymgo.com)
Please if any one can help??
Bump.....85 views no reply...come on guys....help me out...
I don't understand the problem.
Are you saying T-Mobile is blocking VoIP over data?
Are you saying your employer is blocking VoIP on their WiFi network?
My employer is blocking VoIP on their WiFi network.
Make friends with one of the network admins and ask them to unblock the ports NYMGO uses. Seriously, they obviously don't want you using unauthorized apps or services on their network. Many companies, including mine, have strict policies in that lead to disciplinary action, up to and including termination for any unauthorized use of the company's network or the circumvention of any security policies in place.
First step would be to talk to the network admin and find out what changed on the network and if they could re-open those ports used by your voip. If they tell you they can't, you're SOL. It's the company's network, not yours, they pay for it and therefore they decide how it's used, not you. If you had to manage a large corporate network you would understand.

RedMi Note 9s global unable to use wifi calling and text

I was in an area with no tmobile network and was not able to use the wifi calling and mobile texting. I tried using tmobiles APN without success.
Anyone able to get wifi calling working?
I am on Mui global 11.0.11.
Any 3rd party rom with wifi calling working?
Thanks!
Correct. It doesn't work. This has been discussed before and is known. There's no apparent way to activate it. You can "unlock" the sliders in the settings menu for both wifi calling and VoLTE, but neither one works.
Anyone roms with working wifi calling and text?
Wifi calling does work with my Curtana 9S global. I'm on EE in the UK, no special permissions required from my operator, same with VoLTE. Both worked straight out of the box. Note the wifi calling icon in screenshot.
The problem might be down to your carrier.

I'm not saying I trust their word, but I spent some time talking to T-Mobile tech support, and he assured me it was a software issue. Maybe he was lying, but I'm hoping with MIUI, we may see it work.

I'm in your exact situation. I also use T-Mobile. I also don't have a network preferences option. I unlocked both the wifi calling and the VoLTE option using the phone dialer codes that are posted on here somwhere. But neither seem to do anything as they are switched on. I'm inclined to believe that it IS IN FACT a software bug because I also have a Xiaomi Mi Note 10 using the same exact software (MIUI) and VoLTE and Wifi Calling work fine on that device.

I hope mui12 will solve this issue. I need wifi calling.
I have Tmo as well. I was unable to get volte/WiFi calling to work either with stock or on Havoc 3.7. The only alternative I came up with was to activate WiFi calling within google voice as a backup. WiFi calling worked through gvoice. I tested by removing my Tmo sim, and was able to make a call via WiFi only.
I believe it is a combination of both software and Tmo network configuration. Texting is also finicky always. However, gvoice is the only solution that I have come up with.
My previous phone, Umidigi, WiFi calling did work on stock firmware, but not on third party.
I've spent way too much time dealing with T-Mobile tech support trying to get wifi calling to work. I think it is a mix of both software and carrier interference. From what I gather, the crux of the issue is that your carrier has to approve IMS Registration. I don't believe there is a way to force it, unless someone would like to tell me I'm wrong.
I love this device, but it is becoming difficult to keep with Wifi calling unavailable as my coverage in my house is terrible.
