[Q] Rogers Boot Animation - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, please be patient with me as this is my first thread here. I looked around here and couldn't seem to find anything related to this.
I was looking around my phone using Astro File Manager to see if I could find the file that makes the phone show the Rogers splashscreen at startup. I found it and I was wondering if it would have any unwanted results if I removed it? I have rooted my phone and want to remove the Rogers boot animation so it only shows the SE ones.
If it won't hurt the phone, is there a way I can backup the file so that I can put it back if I need to send the phone in? I can't seem to find it in Titanium Backup, is there another way to do this? Can I copy it to my laptop?
Thank you for your help!!

Look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832315
There's some information on how to edit the boot animation and the file/location of the animation.
If all you want is the SE animation and not a custom one, it'll be easier to ask someone with the Nordic or Global 2.1 firmware to copy it from their rom and email it to you then for you to edit the existing one.

Thanks! I already looked at that thread before making this one though and it didn't really answer the questions that I had. I might try the Nordic/Generic ROM option though.
It seems like it is fairly easy to just remove the .png with the Rogers screen on it. I'm just worried about not being able to restore it. Thanks for your suggestions!
EDIT: Found this thread and it has helped quite a bit. It's called X10 Boot Screen Collection. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748145&highlight=boot+animation

boot / splash screens

alright i've searched and reset till I can't see straight anymore. Is there a way to change the first 2 boot screens on startup, without flashing a new rom? I can change the 3rd by changing the welcomehead.96. image, but all the ones I've tried for the 1st 2 either don't work or freeze my phone on boot screen, resulting in a hard reset ( good thing I have all my cabs on my storage card).would prefer a cab file ,but a rar or zip with some instructions will work. sorry if it's been posted somewhere else already, but I can't find it. thanks in advance
Sorry, there's a good reason your searches came up fruitless... splash screens are embedded in the rom, and just "replacing a file" using file exporer will not change it since it is Read Only. Very often the splash screen is displayed before the OS even has a chance to load the file system.
Basically, you need to learn how to embed images into the rom and re-flash. I'm pretty sure there's no way around this.

You can change the second screen on the Mogul by replacing the SPCS_startup.gif Since this file is a read-only, you'll have to change the attributes using Resco Explorer or some other file manager program (except the built in one). Then you can replace it with any gif or animated gif image and ofcourse have the name the same SPCS_startup.gif. The first boot screen is something that's only done by embeding an image into the ROM and flashing.
ok thats kinda what I thought
well I was afraid of that. really don't know anything about flashing or dumping rom. can I flash just the boot screens like other models,,and where do I find how to do that? my device is qwest with a rom 213. which is different than sprints 209 or 216 . so I,m not sure about getting the rom back if I mess it up. any help would be appreciated . thanx
I am not sure about Qwest either...as I am with Sprint. I don't think there is a download for the Qwest ROM since there hasn't been any udpates to it but you might try looking at PPCGeeks in the ftp://ftp.ppcgeeks.com/titan/users/
you might be able to find the Qwest ROM extracted by IMCOKEMAN.
Also, you can flash the boot screen (1st screen). That nbh file use to be in DCD's folder at PPCGeeks but its not there anymore. I'll have to go home and look to see if I still have it on my home PC.

Fascinate Stock Bootanimation.zip

Hello,
What i am looking for is the Stock Bootanimation.zip file that comes with fascinate. What i wanna do is get the PNG files that make up the verizon boot logo. I want to take this and use it to make a boot animation for a diff device.
All i have is the bootanimation.qmg but i have searched and have not been able to find a way to get the images out fo htat compressed format.
Thanks for all your assistance in advance.
The stock boot animation isn't a zip file, it's a .qmg file...
stock kernels for fascinate don't support bootanimation.zip files. The .qmg is a proprietary format chosen by Samsung (shock!) and developed for them by the QURAM Corp. However, many custom roms DO support bootanimation.zip startup logos. (SuperClean 2.92 is a superb example)
The shutdown sequence however, is in .png format, although it also comes with a .cfg configuration file. Its located in /system/media/video/shutdown
Hope this helps.
Any way to get that boot animation? When I rooted my gf's fascinate, it replaced the verizon one with the default "android" in landscape mode.
Little off topic but similiar (not trying to hijack post), can you get the orignal backgound back after changing it to something else? It's not listed in the wallpaper choices.
I'm not sure specifically, but it seems that it depends on the kernel you have if you can install custom boot animations, since the Fascinate (and probably other Galaxy phones) don't really have the .zip support (i'm guess on what i've read).
I'm sure someone will correct me, lol

Are you referring to the background that looked like water? I believe it's been replaced by a different water one and that one is listed under live wallpapers.

No the rock formation background/wallpaper when you first bootup after installing 2.0.

Lost boot animation, I've got nothing...

Not that I mind too terribly much but when I installed dmesg and ran it I lost my boot animation all together. Fun.
I'm rooted on 4.1.57 running GreyBlur 2.1 or whatever the newest is. I used root explorer and made sure there is a bootanimation.zip file where it belongs. Tried manually adding different boot animation zips via rootexplorer. Nada.
Am I missing something?
You can try this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042736, but I don't really know if it will work or not. It is a theme removal app which will also allow you to attempt to reset your boot animation to stock. Has worked for me. It will only replace the bootanimation.zip but won't change any of the settings that call it., so if those are messed up then this won't help.
Just make sure you say no to the first question in the bat or else it will maul your greyblur theming.
Awesome! Ill give that a shot once I can get on a windows machine at work tomorrow. Luckily this isn't a life or death problem.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
You can also download one of the fine boot animations here in the forum straight to your device and then copy it to the /system/media directory on your phone.
heres two I made

Ive actually tried that with no dice.

[Q] Changing boot animation in Gingeritis VIII

Hey there,
I really like the newest Gingeritis ROM , for me it has been relatively stable with just a few spontaneous reboots and an occasional FC.
I am trying to change the boot animation from the one that comes with the ROM. I found the ability to do this in the Spare Parts app, but no matter which I choose, none actually changes from that original "computer boot" looking opening screen. Can anyone help me?
Thanks!

Not sure what file Spare Parts is changing, but I found that I needed to change /system/customize/resource/VZW_bootanimation.zip in order to change my boot animation on Gingeritis VIII. I was getting a little mad too, until I realized the boot animation file was the original Verizon name/location.
I thought it might be something like this. Can you describe the procedure exactly? Thanks!

First, I'll start with something maybe a little harsh, but I feel it's true. If you don't know what you're doing already, chances are you should not do it.
Download the boot animation you want, put it on your SD card. Open root explorer (or other file explorer that can mount directories r/w), find the boot animation file you just put on your SD card and copy it. Navigate to /system/customize/resource and rename VZW_bootanimation.zip to something else and paste the file you have copied. Rename the file you just copied to VZW_bootanimation.zip.
I appreciate the response and the explanation. Thanks.
I've just updated to the new Gingertis and was able to get my favorite boot screen back. However, I cannot seem to get the thunder sound. Where is the proper place to put the thunder.mp3? THANKS!

Do you have a recovery flashed? Normaly under "Advanced" there is a File Manager with which you can rename the build.prop.bak to build.prop again.
Otherwise you can always flash another ROM.
